I am having a problem exporting a report into Excel. The report is using some custom code that works fine for PDF and Word, but in Excel it is not working properly. Here is the code.
Textbox expression:
=Code.MakeProjectstHyperLinks(LookupSet(Fields!PointName.Value, Fields!PointName.Value,
Fields!ProjectName.Value, "SystemPointDetails"), LookupSet(Fields!PointName.Value,
Fields!PointName.Value, Fields!ProjectId.Value, "SystemPointDetails"))
Custom code:
Function MakeProjectstHyperLinks(ByVal ProjectNames As Object(), ByVal ProjectIds As Object())
As String
If ProjectNames Is Nothing Then
Return Nothing
End If
Dim builder As System.Text.StringBuilder = New System.Text.StringBuilder()
builder.Append("<ul>")
For number As Integer = 0 To ProjectNames.Length - 1
builder.Append("<li>")
builder.append("<a href=""" & Report.Parameters!Trending_URL.Value & "?projectid=" &
ProjectIds(number) & """ target=""_blank"">" & ProjectNames(number) & "</a>")
builder.append("</li>")
Next
builder.Append("</ul>")
Return builder.ToString()
End Function
What happens in Excel is that in this line:
builder.append("<a href=""" & Report.Parameters!Trending_URL.Value & "?projectid=" &
ProjectIds(number) & """ target=""_blank"">" & ProjectNames(number) & "</a>")
ProjectIds(number) always show the first element of ProjectIds although "number" is correct. Do you have any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks

Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious, but I cant figure out how to deal with a single result in an array.
I'm using Ken Getz ahtCommonFileOpenSave API in VBA to enable selecting multiple files, using the following code.
Private Sub btn_openfiles_Click()
Dim strFilter As String
Dim strInputFileName As String
Dim strFiles() As String
Dim a As Long
strFilter = ahtAddFilterItem(strFilter, "Images (*.PNG)", "*.PNG")
strFiles = ahtCommonFileOpenSave( _
Filter:=strFilter, _
OpenFile:=True, _
InitialDir:="T:\DTP\Programs\Default\", _
DialogTitle:="Please select an input file...", _
Flags:=ahtOFN_EXPLORER + ahtOFN_ALLOWMULTISELECT)
If IsArray(strFiles) Then
For a = 0 To UBound(strFiles)
Me.test_filenames = Me.test_filenames & strFiles(a) & vbCrLf
Next a
Else
Me.test_filenames = strFiles
End If
End Sub
I know that the result is an array, because I'm setting the ahtOFN_ALLOWMULTISELECT flag. When multiple files are selected, this goes well. But if only one file is selected, an
error 13 is thrown (type mismatch on strFiles)
because the return value of ahtCommonFileOpenSave is not an array.
I may be able to force an Array type just by adding a dummy value to the array produced by ahtCommonFileOpenSave and disregard this when processing the file names in the form, but maybe there is a better solution. Anyone have a suggestion?
As I already mentioned, overlooking the obvious. Changing the variable type into variant did the trick . ahtComminFileOpenSave returns the complete array when multiple files are selected and is always a Variant type. Luuk's suggestion works too (a variant type is used by default when the variable type is omitted).
The corrected (and amended) code is like this and works like a charm!
Private Sub btn_openfiles_Click()
Dim strFilter As String
Dim strInputFileName As String
Dim varFiles As Variant
Dim a As Long
strFilter = ahtAddFilterItem(strFilter, "Images (*.PNG)", "*.PNG")
Me.test_filenames = ""
varFiles = ahtCommonFileOpenSave( _
Filter:=strFilter, _
OpenFile:=True, _
InitialDir:="T:\DTP\Programs\Default\", _
DialogTitle:="Please select an input file...", _
Flags:=ahtOFN_EXPLORER + ahtOFN_ALLOWMULTISELECT)
If IsArray(varFiles) Then
For a = 0 To UBound(varFiles)
Me.test_filenames = Me.test_filenames & varFiles(a) & vbCrLf
Next a
Else
Me.test_filenames = varFiles
End If
End Sub
I am trying to make a full function report file which connects to old version access data base. I need to build a Userform where user can enter deal (order) number just like we can add pages in print dialog box.
So far I have found below question which has given me partial answer:
How to Parsing Full String and split into several String in Excel VBA?
I can use Split(string) method to get various deal numbers when separated by ",".
However, I also need From to TO deal number option as well.
so, if user enters on String1 = "10001 - 10050, 20111 , 20115"
then I need output as
Deal_Line.Deal_Number >= 10001 and Deal_Line.Deal_Number <= 10050
and Deal_Line.Deal_Number = 20111 and Deal_Line.Deal_Number = 20115.
I can refine SQL String for my requirement, I would like to know if there is a way to use two deliminator.
Expanding on #user3598756 answer, (which does exactly what you asked for) and interpreting your requirements I come up with the following:
Function ProcessString(strng1 As String, fieldname As String) As String
Dim sqlStrng As String
Dim strng As Variant, limits As Variant
For Each strng In Split(strng1, ",")
limits = Split(strng, "-")
If UBound(limits) = 0 Then
sqlStrng = sqlStrng & "[FIELD] = " & limits(0) & "|"
Else
sqlStrng = sqlStrng & "([FIELD] >= " & Trim(limits(0)) & " And [FIELD] <= " & Trim(limits(1)) & ")|"
End If
Next
ProcessString = Replace(WorksheetFunction.Trim(Join(Split(Left(sqlStrng, Len(sqlStrng) - 1), "|"), " Or ")), "[FIELD]", fieldname)
End Function
The test line would be:
MsgBox ProcessString("10001 - 10050, 20111 , 20115","Deal_Line.Deal_Number")
This will produce an output that I think is more likely to be what you actually want - using OR instead of AND for starters, adding in parentheses needed for the OR to work properly and allowing for multiple table/field names.
Then again, maybe I've misinterpreted your requirement - I just can't see what use having all AND would be one one field.
you could use this helper function:
Function ProcessString(strng1 As String) As String
Dim sqlStrng As String
Dim strng As Variant, limits As Variant
For Each strng In Split(strng1, ",")
limits = Split(strng, "-")
If UBound(limits) = 0 Then
sqlStrng = sqlStrng & "Deal_Line.Deal_Number = " & limits(0) & "|"
Else
sqlStrng = sqlStrng & "Deal_Line.Deal_Number >= " & limits(0) & " And Deal_Line.Deal_Number <= " & limits(1) & "|"
End If
Next
ProcessString = WorksheetFunction.Trim(Join(Split(Left(sqlStrng, Len(sqlStrng) - 1), "|"), " And "))
End Function
to be tested/expolited in your "main" code as:
Sub main()
MsgBox ProcessString("10001 - 10050, 20111 , 20115")
End Sub
Okay, so I'm working in VB.NET, manually writing error logs to log files (yes, I know, I didn't make the call). Now, if the files are over an arbitrary size, when the function goes to write out the new error data, it should start a new file with a new file name.
Here's the function:
Dim listener As New Logging.FileLogTraceListener
listener.CustomLocation = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("LogDir")
Dim loc As String = DateTime.UtcNow.Year.ToString + DateTime.UtcNow.Month.ToString + DateTime.UtcNow.Day.ToString + DateTime.UtcNow.Hour.ToString + DateTime.UtcNow.Minute.ToString
listener.BaseFileName = loc
Dim logFolder As String
Dim source As String
logFolder = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("LogDir")
If ex.Data.Item("Source") Is Nothing Then
source = ex.Source
Else
source = ex.Data.Item("Source").ToString
End If
Dim errorFileInfo As New FileInfo(listener.FullLogFileName)
Dim errorLengthInBytes As Long = errorFileInfo.Length
If (errorLengthInBytes > CType(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("maxFileSizeInBytes"), Long)) Then
listener.BaseFileName = listener.BaseFileName + "1"
End If
Dim msg As New System.Text.StringBuilder
If String.IsNullOrEmpty(logFolder) Then logFolder = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("LogDir")
msg.Append(vbCrLf & "Exception" & vbCrLf)
msg.Append(vbTab & String.Concat("App: AppMonitor | Time: ", Date.Now.ToString) & vbCrLf)
msg.Append(vbTab & String.Concat("Source: ", source, " | Message: ", ex.Message) & vbCrLf)
msg.Append(vbTab & "Stack: " & ex.StackTrace & vbCrLf)
listener.Write(msg.ToString())
listener.Flush()
listener.Close()
I have this executing in a loop for testing purposes, so I can see what happens when it gets (say) 10000 errors in all at once. Again, I know there are better ways to handle this systemically, but this was the code I was told to implement.
How can I reliably get the size of the log file before writing to it, as I try to do above?
Well, as with many things, the answer to this turned out to be "did you read your own code closely" with a side order of "eat something, you need to fix your blood sugar."
On review, I saw that I was always checking BaseFileName and, if it was over the arbitrary limit, appending a character and writing to that file. What I didn't do was check to see if that file or, indeed, other more recent files existed. I've solved the issue be grabbing a directory list of all the files matching the "BaseFileName*" argument in Directory.GetFiles and selecting the most recently accessed one. That ensures that the logger will always select the more current file to write to or -if necessary- use as the base-name for another appended character.
Here's that code:
Dim directoryFiles() As String = Directory.GetFiles(listener.Location.ToString(), listener.BaseFileName + "*")
Dim targetFile As String = directoryFiles(0)
For j As Integer = 1 To directoryFiles.Count - 1 Step 1
Dim targetFileInfo As New FileInfo(targetFile)
Dim compareInfo As New FileInfo(directoryFiles(j))
If (targetFileInfo.LastAccessTimeUtc < compareInfo.LastAccessTimeUtc) Then
targetFile = directoryFiles(j)
End If
Next
Dim errorFileInfo As New FileInfo(listener.Location.ToString() + targetFile)
Dim errorLengthInBytes As Long = errorFileInfo.Length
Is there anywhere to check whether a listbox contains an item which is similar to a string?
I have tried to use a Like statement but this doesn't work.
I have tried:
For i As Integer = 0 To TopicListBox.Items.Count - 1
If (TopicListBox.Items(i).ToString.Contains(Record.Item("Keyphrase2"))) Then
Dim Item As String = TopicListBox.Items(i).ToString
If Item Like "Questions related to:" & Record.Item("Keyphrase2") & ": |*| Qs" Then
Dim ItemSplit() As String = Item.Split(New Char() {"|"c})
Dim AmountOfQuestionsAfter As Integer = AmountOfQuestions + CInt(ItemSplit(1))
Item = ItemSplit(0) & AmountOfQuestionsAfter & ItemSplit(1)
Else
TopicListBox.Items.Add("Questions related to:" & Record.Item("Keyphrase2") & ": |" & AmountOfQuestions & "| Qs")
Exit For
End If
End If
Next
I don't really understand what you are trying to accomplish, but here is a LINQ function to return all the items that contain a certain string.
Dim lb As New ListBox
lb.Items.Add("asdf")
lb.Items.Add("asdfasdf")
lb.Items.Add("aifisasdf")
lb.Items.Add("adf")
'' find all items in the ListBox that contain the string "asdf"
Dim found = lb.Items.Cast(Of String).Where(Function(f) f.Contains("asdf"))
For Each s In found
'' do something with those items
Next
Can't you just do
If Item.Contains("Questions related to:" & Record.Item("Keyphrase2")) Then
...
End If
or
If Item.StartsWith("Questions related to:" & Record.Item("Keyphrase2")) Then
...
End If
?
Dim Found = (From Result In lb.Items Where Result.ToString = "Value" Select Result)
If (Found.Count > 0) Then
' your code
End If
I'm trying to make a calendar in vb.net and I have come across this problem. I want to append some text into an existing datatable row. When I watch my debugger it says:"In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user.".
Dim aantalRijen As Integer = 1
For x = 0 To 6
Dim dttopdrachten As New DataTable
dttopdrachten = opdrachtendao.getOpdrachtenByDate(Today.AddDays(x))
If dttopdrachten.Rows.Count > aantalRijen Then
aantalRijen = dttopdrachten.Rows.Count
End If
Next
For z = 0 To aantalRijen - 1
Dim r As DataRow
r = dttAgenda.NewRow()
dttAgenda.Rows.InsertAt(r, z)
Next
For i = 0 To 6
Dim aantalItems As Integer = 0
Dim dttopdrachten As New DataTable
dttopdrachten = opdrachtendao.getOpdrachtenByDate(Today.AddDays(i))
aantalItems = dttopdrachten.Rows.Count
For j = 0 To aantalItems - 1
Dim info As String = dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(0).ToString & vbCrLf & dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(2).ToString & vbCrLf & dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(3).ToString & vbCrLf & dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(4).ToString & vbCrLf & dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(5).ToString & vbCrLf & dttopdrachten.Rows(j).Item(6).ToString
dttAgenda.Rows(j).Item(i) = info
Next
Next
dgvAgenda.DataSource = dttAgenda
In the code above, I first count how many rows I have to make. Afterwards I add the amount of rows to the datatable (columns are added before). Until here it works, but then when I keep debugging I get the error. I tried googling but nothing could help me so far.
Seem problem has been solved without changing anything. So if someone want to make a calendar. Here's the solution ;)
