Read a SQL table cell value and only change a ComboBox.text without changing the ComboBox collection items

I'm trying to make an army list builder for a miniatures strategy game.
I'd like to know the correct method to read a SQL table cell value and to put it for each unit into a ComboBox.text field, but only into the field.
The ComBoBox collection items should not be modified (I need them to remain as it is). I just want the ComboBox.text value to be modified with the red framed value, and for each unit
For the record, currently, I read the others table informations and load them into the others ComboBoxes this way :
Private Sub TextBoxQuantitéUnités_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles TextBoxQuantitéUnités.Click
Dim connection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=Server;Initial Catalog=OST;Integrated Security=True")
Dim dt As New DataTable
Dim sqlquery As String
connection.Open()
sqlquery = "select * from liste1 Order By index_unité"
Dim SQL As New SqlDataAdapter(sqlquery, connection)
SQL.Fill(dt)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(sqlquery, connection)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader
ComboBoxNomUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxNomUnités.DisplayMember = "nom_unité"
ComboBoxTypeUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxTypeUnités.DisplayMember = "type_unité"
ComboBoxAbréviationUnités.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxAbréviationUnités.DisplayMember = "abréviation_unité"
ComboBoxCoutTotal.DataSource = dt
ComboBoxCoutTotal.DisplayMember = "cout_unité"
connection.Close()
End Sub
Many thanks :-)
The ComboBox.text where I want to load the cell value
The table picture with the framed value I want to load into the cell
The original ComboBox collection I want to keep
EDIT 2 :
My table structure
Your function call
A short clip of the program in order to understand my problem
As you can see, the function seems good and when I check the ComboBoxQuality text during the execution, it seems good but for some reason, it don't change...
The others Comboboxes are sync as you can see on the upper code.
Thanks in advance...

Calling a sub procedure in vb.net

Just want to ask you if I'm doing the right way calling sub procedure in vb.net I've already tested it and it is working. I just want to know if I need to change my coding way?
So here's my Sub procedure:

Try
con.Open()
Dim studid As Integer = Val(Form1.studentidtxt.Text)
Dim selectQ = "SELECT * FROM StudentInfoTBL WHERE StudentID=#studid"
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(selectQ, con)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("#studid", studid)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()
If dr.HasRows Then
dr.Read()
studidtxt.Text = dr.Item("StudentID").ToString
studname.Text = dr.Item("StudentName")
agebox.Text = dr.Item("Age").ToString
If dr.Item("Gender") = "Male" Then
malebtn.Checked = True
Else
femalebtn.Checked = True
End If
dobtxt.Text = dr.Item("DOB")
homeaddtxt.Text = dr.Item("Home Address")
citytxt.Text = dr.Item("City").ToString
telephonetxt.Text = dr.Item("Telephone")
mobiletxt.Text = dr.Item("Mobile")
emailtxt.Text = dr.Item("Email")
dr.Close()
con.Close()
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString)
Finally
con.Close()
End Try
End Sub
Then I'll call it from form load event:
Private Sub Form2_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'call procedure created'
loadStudDB()
End Sub

Asset Dataset Button

I have been trying to write a program for a company that I work for, that would do assist tracking as well as give an overview of where the assists are.
The idea is to have a database with unique numbers on them that is allocated to all the hardware.
When a "desk" button is pressed it will show the info form that desk and it can be edited from there.
I roughly have what I was looking for, but I'm struggling with an issue when I update data, the data is somehow placed in the incorrect row...
E.g:
Desk Name : TL1
PC : 0001
monitor : 0002
Desk Name : TL2
PC : 0003
monitor : 0004
If I update the fist data entry alone it works fine.. however when I update the second entry it gets saved onto the first entry
E.g:
Desk Name : TL2
PC : 0003
monitor : 0004
Desk Name : TL2
PC : 0003
monitor : 0004
This is the code I have so far, any help would be very appreciated.

It seems like you might be getting mixed up between your DataSet and your TableAdapterManager.
First, we need to get the values from the text boxes.
empID = EmployeeIDTxt.Text
dob = DateOfBirthTxt.Text
mailStation = MailStationTxt.Text
eFirst = FNameTxt.Text
prefName = PrefNameTxt.Text
eLast = LNameTxt.Text
homeAddress = Address1Txt.Text
city = CityTxt.Text
state = StateTxt.Text
zip = ZipTxt.Text
payGroup = PayGroupTxt.Text
fileNo = FileNoTxt.Text
begDT = BegDtTxt.Text
Now, we can reference the fields in our Update query as variables, and add parameters to them so we can prevent SQL Injection.
'This is your update statement
Dim updateQry As String = String.Empty
updateQry = "UPDATE YOURTABLE"
updateQry &= " SET EMPL_ID = #EmployeeID,EMPL_LAST_NM = #LastName, EMPL_FIRST_NM = #FirstName, EMPL_PREFRD_NM = #PrefName,"
updateQry &= " EMPL_BIRTH_DT = #DateOfBirth, EMPL_MAIL_STN_CD = #MS, EMPL_ADDR1_TXT = #HomeAddress,"
updateQry &= " EMPL_ADDR2_TXT = #Add2, EMPL_CITY_NM = #City, EMPL_STATE_CD = #State, EMPL_POSTL_CD = #Zip,"
updateQry &= " WHERE EMPL_ID = #EmployeeID ;"
'Declare Connection String
Using sqlConnection As New OleDBConnection(myConn)
Using cmd As New OleDBCommand()
'Declare variable for SQL command
With cmd
.Connection = sqlConnection
.CommandType = CommandType.Text
.CommandText = updateQry
'Prevent against SQL Injection -> Add Parameters
With .Parameters
.AddWithValue("#EmployeeID", empID)
.AddWithValue("#FirstName", eFirst)
.AddWithValue("#LastName", eLast)
.AddWithValue("#PrefName", prefName)
.AddWithValue("#DateOfBirth", dob)
.AddWithValue("#MS", mailStation)
.AddWithValue("#HomeAddress", homeAddress)
.AddWithValue("#City", city)
.AddWithValue("#State", state)
.AddWithValue("#Zip", zip)
End With
End With
Try
sqlConnection.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show("Error Updating " & ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
End Try
End Using
End Using
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
Finally
MsgBox("" & FNameTxt.Text & " " & LNameTxt.Text & " has been updated")
End Try
Now, we need to change a few things.
Replace myConn with your connection string and open it in this instance (in the btnUpdate sub)
Change all of the fields in the Parameter list to your variables. ("EmployeeID" is the parameter I am providing for the variable empID)
Your WHERE clause is going to depend on what records you want to update. That's for you to decide. Is there a primary key you can reference like I do with EmployeeID?
Replace EMPL_ fields with your field names.
For clarification, the "#EmployeeID" parameter is the safe way of writing to the database of adding empID directly.
There are a couple other ways to do this, such as OleDbUpdateCommand, etc.
Hope this helps you.

Backup of SQL Server database using VB.NET

In vb.net, I'm trying to take a backup of my SQL Server 2012.
When I run my code it gets backup from database correctly (in the local), but when I change the connection to a server (local server), it doesn't do anything.
I think the problem is for the security on the server ...
Any solution regarding to solve this issue is greatly appreciated
My code :
Sub server(ByVal str As String)
con = New SqlConnection("Data Source=" & str & ";Initial Catalog=DATABASE;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=username;Password=password")
con.Open()
cmd = New SqlCommand("select * from sysservers where srvproduct='SQL Server'", con)
dread = cmd.ExecuteReader
While dread.Read
cmbserver.Items.Add(dread(2))
End While
dread.Close()
End Sub
Sub connection()
con = New SqlConnection("Data Source=192.168.0.200;Initial Catalog=database;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=username;Password=password")
con.Open()
cmbdatabase.Items.Clear()
cmd = New SqlCommand("select * from sysdatabases", con)
dread = cmd.ExecuteReader
While dread.Read
cmbdatabase.Items.Add(dread(0))
End While
dread.Close()
End Sub
Sub query(ByVal que As String)
On Error Resume Next
cmd = New SqlCommand(que, con)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
End Sub
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
Try
If PRGBackup.Value = 100 Then
Timer1.Enabled = False
PRGBackup.Visible = False
MsgBox("successfully the backup has been done in the specified folder.")
Else
PRGBackup.Value = PRGBackup.Value + 5
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, , projectTitle)
End Try
End Sub
Sub blank(ByVal str As String)
Try
If cmbserver.Text = "" Or cmbdatabase.Text = "" Then
MsgBox("Server Name or Database can not be blank.")
Exit Sub
Else
If str = "backup" Then
SFDBackup.FileName = cmbdatabase.Text
SFDBackup.ShowDialog()
Timer1.Enabled = True
PRGBackup.Visible = True
Dim s As String
s = SFDBackup.FileName
Dim sql As String = "BACKUP DATABASE " & cmbdatabase.Text & " to disk='" & s & "'"
query(sql)
ElseIf str = "restore" Then
OFDBackup.ShowDialog()
Timer1.Enabled = True
PRGBackup.Visible = True
query("RESTORE DATABASE " & cmbdatabase.Text & " FROM disk='" & OFDBackup.FileName & "'")
End If
End If
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, , projectTitle)
End Try
End Sub
Private Sub cmbbackup_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmbbackup.Click
blank("backup")
End Sub
Private Sub cmdrestore_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdrestore.Click
blank("restore")
End Sub
Private Sub frmBackup_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Try
Me.Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor
server("192.168.0.200")
'server(".\sqlexpress")
Me.Cursor = Cursors.Default
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message, , projectTitle)
End Try
End Sub
You need to execute a backup SQL command:
Dim sqlConnectionString As String = "Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=Locations;Data Source=GIGABYTE-PC\SQLEXPRESS"
Dim conn As New SqlConnection(sqlConnectionString)
conn.Open()
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
cmd.CommandText = "BACKUP DATABASE Locations TO DISK='C:\Temp\location.BAK'"
cmd.Connection = conn
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
I think you just missed the SQL server instance name, which is after the IP Address backslash sign directly "\": ========> "172.16.9.26\SQLSERVER;"
try this connection since you are using the IP address and you also have a user name and password:
Dim ConnString As String = ("Server=172.16.9.26\SQLSERVER;Database=database;User Id=sa;Password=yourpass")
So, make your SqlConnection like this:
con = New SqlConnection("Data Source=192.168.0.200\SQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=database;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=username;Password=password")
I hope this can help.
^_^
It will take the backup but the backup file will goes to some directory on the server and not on the local client
If your local computer name is duo-1 and backup file path is D:\Apps\Medlabs i9\DATA BACKUP\Medlabs.bak then
then you should use UNC path in backup query.It should be
backup database DB_NAME to disk='\\duo-1\D\Apps\Medlabs i9\DATA BACKUP\Medlabs.bak'
