I'm working with an old software developed in VS2008.
The application also uses Crystal Reports 10/10.5 and a SQL .sdf database.
I need to modify the .rpt form template and I'm having problems to load the (local) .sdf file in Crystal Reports: in the standalone application and also in the integrated environment in VS2008
I googled for similar problems so I ended up to recreate the same 32bit environment with Windows XP-SP3, VS2008, Crystal Reports 10 (standalone), SQL Compact Edition 3.5, Crystal Reports 10.5 run-time for VS2008.
In the "Server Explorer" section, I'm able to load the .sdf file:

But when I switch to the "Field Explorer", I don't see any option that allows me to load the sdf file to be used with .the rpt form:

I tried every other option in the list (ODBC, OLE DB..), but no luck. I also installed SQL Server 2005, no luck either.
I also tried to work in Crystal Reports 10 standalone application, same problems.
How can I load a sdf file in the "Database Fields" in Crystal reports?

I have a vb.net winform application. It has been around for years. I'm using VS 2019 community edition. When i try to open the rdlc file it tells me that I need to upgrade the format. I do that and then when i run the application i get an error that the definition of the report is invalid. I've read where i need to install the extension Microsoft.RdlcDesigner. I have done that and i can go in see my report in the designer but it still won't run.
The exact error is
An Error occurred during local processing. The definition of hte report " is invalid. The definition of this report is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services. The report definition may have been created wih a later version of Reporting Services, or contain contet that is not well-formed or not valid based on Reporting Services schemas. Details: the report definition has invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2015/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be upgraded.
i'm using an rdlc file so the vb app is using reportviewer to hit a local database.. no reporting service server is involved.
anyone have any ideas

I figured out a poor workaround. If i open the rdlc file in visual studio 2013 and let it upgrade the format.. then i can modify the report in the designer. Save the rdlc and close vs2013. then open the VS 2019 project and it will compile and run the report. Not great.. but at least its working
I'm new to VB.Net and I'm trying to develop a desktop app using VB.Net 2019 and Crystal reports. I have few questions which i need some clarifications.
My project is is working fine in my development machine.(VB.Net , MS SQL , Crystal Reports). But when trying to deploy it to clients, I get some errors when trying to load reports. I have installed CR13SP27MSI32_0-10010309 in development pc and CR13SP27MSI32_0-10010309 for clients.
I Have inserted and designed the Crystal Reports inside Visual studio IDE. So, when loading reports crystal report viewer, I do not use a report path in the code. I just declare a new instance of the existing report. Is this correct or do i always have to show the physical path of the report source?
I tried to to create a setup project but It fails during the build. So, I copied the exe to a client machine and I get a error when trying to load a form with a Crystal Report Viewer. Is it because the required files are missing from the client PC?. Do i have to install both Visual studio and Crystal report in client computers?
Client machines don't need Crystal Designer. They need Crystal Runtime for .NET framework, which has separate installs (one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit).

I had the same problem on Microsoft Visual studio 2019 by installing SP26 "SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (64-bit)" before "SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Studio".
The main problem is that the run-time engine doesn't copy crdb_adoplus.dll file which need to Crystal Report to load data from ADO.Net dataset.
If you also followed my installation sequence, you must:
Remove "SAP Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework (XX-bit)" and "SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Studio" by the control panel.
Run the "SAP Crystal Reports, version for Microsoft Studio" installer as Administrator. After the installation, it will automatically ask you to install the correct engine.

We are using Crystal Report's on 20+ server and we always install x32 and x64bit version.Today i installed SP30 from here for VS2019 https://www.tektutorialshub.com/crystal-reports/download-crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2019/ , also today i tried to add a field to dataset and gave me 'crdb_adoplus.dll' error. After a lot of search, i installed x32 bit runtime both x64bit, it worked.
I had the same problem.
I uninstalled all crystal reports (for visual studio and runtime) and install only the version for Visual Studio and installed the runtime checking the last checkbox on the installation wizard (to install the correct runtime).
I think that when installing on top of an existing crystal some files are missing.
I have installed SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence (SSDT-BI) version 14.0.61705.170 and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) version 14.0.608.142.
I'm trying to upgrade and edit a collection of older report files for use with the current version of SSRS. The project upgrades (apparently) ok, and the reports are viewable in the SSDT-BI report editor.
But whenever I try to save any of these reports, an error message box pops up which says "Unknown Report Version: 9.0".
I suspect it's because the RDL files are so old, but I don't see 9.0 anywhere in the RDL file so I'm not sure what I need to tweak to make the files savable again. Perhaps an XML schema name or similar?
The main namespace in the RDL files is currently http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition
"Version 9.0" probably corresponds to SQL Server 2005 since that was the major version number of that release of SQL Server, and 2005 can be found in the schema namespace.
This document says that:
Reports that were created in any previous version of Reporting
Services can be upgraded. This includes the following versions:
SQL Server 2008
SQL Server 2008 R2
SQL Server 2012
SQL Server 2014
So... how can I upgrade these reports for full compatibility with modern SSRS versions?
I downloaded "SQL Server 2012 Express with Advanced Services" from MSDN and installed the SSRS report editing tools, and then used those to open & save the reports. (It also works to download SSDT-BI for Visual Studio 2012 (version 11.0.5583.0) by following links on this Microsoft web page. This installs a different version of the SSRS editors, based on VS2012 instead of VS2010.)
This upgraded the .rdl files from the 2005 reports schema to the 2008 reports schema (I suppose there were no actual schema changes between SSRS 2008, 2008 R2, and 2012).
The upgraded reports could then be opened and edited in the SQL Server 2016 tools, which upgrades them again, to the SSRS 2016 schema.
I followed these steps to migrate old reports. Opened the old SSRS report project in VS2017 (not the solution file). It asks for the migration. Then open the rdl file in designer mode, it will upgrade the definition schema of the report. Save the report. You can then open the project file either in VS2015 or VS2017 with upgraded report definition schema.
I am ready to deploy my vb.net project to my client computer.
In my development computer I have crystal report 9, sql server express and .net framework 3.5 installed.
My Client computer hasn't got anything installed there...
I am trying to making msi installer so that it will be easy for my client to install.
I created the new solutions -> setup type project, added the project on it and build it.
it successfully created the msi installer but it doesn't installs the sql server express and crystal report.
How do i make the installer with crystal report and sql server and also with db
I'm not sure what version of Visual Studio you are using but assuming you have 2008:
To add the crystal reports files to the setup project:
Go to the deployment project's properties page.
Click the "Prerequisites" button.
Add the "Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008"
Alternatively search for the correct Merge Modules for your Crystal Reports version.
I am yet to see an 'easy' install that includes Crystal Reports but you never know.
You'll have to deploy the database seperately, just install SQL Server Express and do a backup-restore on the database.
