Writing an SQL query to get a device count out of spiceworks.
I need to get the device type, the model, how many are in use and how many are unassigned.
Currently anything thats unassigned is marked as decommissioned.
So I have the following query
SELECT `device_type` AS "Device",
`model` AS "Model",
SUM (CASE WHEN `user_tag` NOT LIKE "%decommissioned%" THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS "Assigned",
SUM (CASE WHEN `user_tag` LIKE "%decommissioned%" THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS "Avail."
FROM `devices`
WHERE `auto_tag` LIKE "%LA2%" OR `user_tag` LIKE "%LA2%" OR `location` LIKE "%LA2%"
Group by `device_type`, `model`
EG: if marked as decommissioned count as 1 toward available, otherwise count as 1 toward assigned.
My current problem is that the Second SUM opperation is returning no data. Not even a 0.
Im sure its something simple that im missing.
Thanks in advance for the help.
It came down to SpiceWorks choking on the formatting of the query.
the back ticks were removed from around column names, double quotes replaced with single quotes.
Works as expected.
Thank you all for your assistance.
SELECT
device_type
, model
, COUNT(CASE WHEN user_tag NOT LIKE '%decommissioned%' THEN 1 ELSE NULL END) as 'Assigned'
, COUNT(CASE WHEN user_tag LIKE '%decommissioned%' THEN 1 ELSE NULL END) as 'Avail'
, COUNT(*) as 'TotalItems'
FROM devices
WHERE auto_tag LIKE '%LA2%' OR user_tag LIKE '%LA2%' OR location LIKE '%LA2%'
GROUP BY model, device_type
ORDER BY location DESC, device_type ASC

I am using PSQL.
I have a table with a few columns, one column is event that can have 4 different values - X1, X2, Y1, Y2. I have another column that is the name of the service and I want to group by using this column.
My goal is to make a query that take an event and verify that for a specific service name I have count(X1) == count(X2) if not display a new column with "error"
Is this even possible? I am kinda new to SQL and not sure how to write this.
So far I tried something like this
select
service_name, event, count(service_name)
from
service_table st
group by
(service_name, event);
I am getting the count of each event for specific service_name but I would like to verify that count of event 1 == count of event 2 for each service_name.
I want to add that each service_name have a choice of 2 different event only.
You may not need a subquery/CTE for this, but it will work (and makes the logic easier to follow):
WITH event_counts_by_service AS (SELECT
service_name
, COUNT(CASE WHEN event='X1' THEN 1 END) AS count_x1
, COUNT(CASE WHEN event='X2' THEN 1 END) AS count_x2
FROM service_table
GROUP BY service_name)
SELECT service_name
, CASE WHEN count_x1=count_x2 THEN NULL ELSE 'Error' END AS are_counts_equal
FROM event_counts_by_service
I have the following query where if brand1/camp1 taken individually, query returns the correct value but if I specify more than one brand or campaigns, it returns some other number and I am not sure what the math is behind that. It is not the total of the two either.
I think it is IN operator that is specifying OR with "," as opposed to what I require it to do which is consider AND
select campaign,
sum(case when campaign in ('camp1', 'camp2') and description in ('brand1', 'brand2') then orders else 0 end) as brand_convs
from data.camp_results
where campaign in ('camp1', 'camp2') and channel='prog' and type='sbc'
group by campaign
having brand_convs > 0
order by brand_convs desc;
Any thoughts?
The problem is in the IN part as you suspected: The two IN operators do not affect eachother in any way, so campaign can be camp1 while description is brand2.
If your DBMS supports multiple columns in an IN statement, you use a single IN statement:
SELECT campaign, SUM(
CASE WHEN (campaign, description) IN (
('camp1', 'brand1'),
('camp2', 'brand2')
) THEN orders ELSE 0 END
) [rest of query...]
If not, you're probably going to have to use ANDs and ORs
SELECT campaign, SUM(
CASE WHEN
(campaign='camp1' AND description='brand1')
OR (campaign='camp2' AND description='brand2')
THEN orders ELSE 0 END
) [rest of query...]
Trying to do some calculations via SQL on my iSeries and have the following conundrum: I need to count the number of times a certain value appears in a column. My select statement is as follows:
Select
MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ, MOROUT.WKCTR, MOTRAN.TDATE,
MOTRAN.LBTIM, MOROUT.SRLHU, MOROUT.RLHTD, MOROUT.ACODT,
MOROUT.SCODT, MOROUT.ASTDT, MOMAST.SSTDT, MOMAST.FITWH,
MOMAST.FITEM,
CONCAT(MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ) As CON,
count (Concat(MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ) )As CountIF,
MOROUT.SRLHU / (count (Concat(MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ))) as calc
*(snip)*
With this information, I'm trying to count the number of times a value in CON appears. I will need this to do some math with so it's kinda important. My count statement doesn't work properly as it reports a certain value as occurring once when I see it appears 8 times.
Try putting a CASE statement inside a SUM().
SUM(CASE WHEN value = 'something' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
This will count the number of rows where value = 'something'.
Similary...
SUM(CASE WHEN t1.val = CONCAT(t2.val, t3.val) THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
If you're on a supported version of the OS, ie 6.1 or higher...
You might be able to make use of "grouping set" functionality. Particularly the ROLLUP clause.
I can't say for sure without more understanding of your data.
Otherwise, you're going to need to so something like
wth Cnt as (select ORDNO, OPSEQ, count(*) as NbrOccur
from MOTRAN
group by ORDNO, OPSEQ
)
Select
MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ, MOROUT.WKCTR, MOTRAN.TDATE,
MOTRAN.LBTIM, MOROUT.SRLHU, MOROUT.RLHTD, MOROUT.ACODT,
MOROUT.SCODT, MOROUT.ASTDT, MOMAST.SSTDT, MOMAST.FITWH,
MOMAST.FITEM,
CONCAT(MOTRAN.ORDNO, MOTRAN.OPSEQ) As CON,
Cnt.NbrOccur,
MOROUT.SRLHU / Cnt.NbrOccur as calc
from
motran join Cnt on mortran.ordno = cnt.ordno and mortran.opseq = cnt.opseq
*(snip)*
I want to create a graph that pulls data from 2 user questions generated from within an SQL database.
The issue is that the user questions are stored in the same table, as are the answers. The only connection is that the question string includes a year value, which I extract using the LEFT command so that I output a column called 'YEAR' with a list of integer values running from 2013 to 2038 (25 year period).
I then want to pull the corresponding answers ('forecast' and 'actual') from each 'YEAR' so that I can plot a graph with a couple of values from each year (sorry if this isn't making any sense). The graph should show a forecast line covering the 25 year period with a second line (or column) showing the actual value as it gets populated over the years. I'll then be able to visualise if our actual value is close to our original forecast figures (long term goal!)
CODE BELOW
SELECT CAST((LEFT(F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION,4)) AS INTEGER) AS YEAR,
-- first select takes left 4 characters of question and outputs value as string then coverts value to whole number.
CAST((CASE WHEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%forecast' THEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_ANSWER END) AS NUMERIC(9,2)) AS 'FORECAST',
CAST((CASE WHEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%actual' THEN ISNULL(F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_ANSWER,0) END) AS NUMERIC(9,2)) AS 'ACTUAL'
-- actual value will be null until filled in each year therefore ISNULL added to replace null with 0.00.
FROM F_TASK_ANS INNER JOIN F_TASKS ON F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_FKEY_TA_SEQ = F_TASKS.TA_SEQ
WHERE TA_ANS_ANSWER <> ''
AND (TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6051' OR TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6052')
-- The two numbers above refer to separate PPM questions that the user enters a value into
I tried GROUP BY 'YEAR' but I get an
Error: Each GROUP BY expression must contain at least one column that
is not an outer reference - which I assume is because I haven't linked
the 2 tables in any way...
Should I be adding a UNION so the tables are joined?
What I want to see is something like the following output (which I'll graph up later)
YEAR FORECAST ACTUAL
2013 135000 127331
2014 143000 145102
2015 149000 0
2016 158000 0
2017 161000 0
2018... etc
Any help or guidance would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
Although the syntax is pretty hairy, this seems like a fairly simple query. You are in fact linking your two tables (with the JOIN statement) and you don't need a UNION.
Try something like this (using a common table expression, or CTE, to make the grouping clearer, and changing the syntax for slightly greater clarity):
WITH data
AS (
SELECT YEAR = CAST((LEFT(A.TA_ANS_QUESTION,4)) AS INTEGER)
, FORECAST = CASE WHEN A.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%forecast'
THEN CONVERT(NUMERIC(9,2), A.TA_ANS_ANSWER)
ELSE CONVERT(NUMERIC(9,2), 0)
END
, ACTUAL = CASE WHEN A.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%actual'
THEN CONVERT(NUMERIC(9,2), ISNULL(A.TA_ANS_ANSWER,0) )
ELSE CONVERT(NUMERIC(9,2), 0)
END
FROM F_TASK_ANS A
INNER JOIN F_TASKS T
ON A.TA_ANS_FKEY_TA_SEQ = T.TA_SEQ
-- It sounded like you wanted to include the ones where the answer was null. If
-- that's wrong, get rid of the test for NULL.
WHERE (A.TA_ANS_ANSWER <> '' OR A.TA_ANS_ANSWER IS NULL)
AND (TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6051' OR TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6052')
)
SELECT YEAR
, FORECAST = SUM(data.Forecast)
, ACTUAL = SUM(data.Actual)
FROM data
GROUP BY YEAR
ORDER BY YEAR
Try something like this ...
SELECT CAST((LEFT(F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION,4)) AS INT) AS [YEAR]
,SUM(CAST((CASE WHEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%forecast'
THEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_ANSWER ELSE 0 END) AS NUMERIC(9,2))) AS [FORECAST]
,SUM(CAST((CASE WHEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION LIKE '%actual'
THEN F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_ANSWER ELSE 0 END) AS NUMERIC(9,2))) AS [ACTUAL]
FROM F_TASK_ANS INNER JOIN F_TASKS
ON F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_FKEY_TA_SEQ = F_TASKS.TA_SEQ
WHERE TA_ANS_ANSWER <> ''
AND (TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6051' OR TA_TASK_ID LIKE '%6052')
GROUP BY CAST((LEFT(F_TASK_ANS.TA_ANS_QUESTION,4)) AS INT)
I have to provide counts for different activities, some of the columns are from some table but few I have to take by joining other tables. And in the last column I have to add counts *of 5 columns togather in one field*.Please see my query below and advice the best way to achieve my results :)
SELECT web. OID,web. MARKETING_GROUP,
SUM(DECODE(WEB.EVENT_TYPE,5,WEB.ACTIVITY_COUNT,0)) AS DISCUSSIONCOMMENT ,
SUM(DECODE(WEB.EVENT_TYPE,6,WEB.ACTIVITY_COUNT,0)) AS DISCUSSIONSTART ,
SUM(DECODE(WEB.EVENT_TYPE,7,WEB.ACTIVITY_COUNT,0)) AS DISCUSSIONVIEW,
SUM(case when o.when _clicked is not null then c(*))AS clickcount,
**SUM(case when WEB.EVENT_TYPE in(5,6,7,8)then WEB.ACTIVITY_COUNT +c.count(*))as Total** --------- This is where I am getting stuck and confused???
from GMMI_AIR.WEB_ACTIVITY_FCT WEB join GMMI_AIR.COUPON_WEB_ACTIVITY C
on WEB.OID_WEB_ACTIVITY_FCT = C.OID_COUPON_WEB_ACTIVITY
I am really stuck as the table which is joined doesn'thave field named activity_count or activity_type so to see the counts I can only do count(*) but to add it all other fileds in one column and sum it up is very confusing??
Any help??/
