replacement for tabbar selected index

I have an old app where I have 5 tabs. Each tab have list of ads & there is details. Also each tab have respective add ad. Design for all 5 tabs is same except some changes, so I decided to use 1 screen only for all 5 tabs.
Now what I am doing is while add ad, I am checking which tab I am and based on tab bar index, I am showing hiding fields. Same is applicable for details screen also. Sample code is as shown below.
if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==0) {
field1.hidden = NO;
} else if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==1) {
field1.hidden = NO;
} else if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==2) {
field1.hidden = NO;
} else if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==3) {
field1.hidden = NO;
} else if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==4) {
field1.hidden = YES;
}
Now I have around 15 fields for each form so I write this code for all fields.
What I noticed that client change the tab bar position continuously so I was looking for efficient way of doing it.
Right now what I do is at all places manually change index positions by doing Search-Replace, however I dont like this.
I was looking for a way where instead of selectedIndex, I was looking for someconstant value that I will assign to tab item of tab bar, so my code will change as below
if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==adType_News) {
field1.hidden = NO;
} else if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==adType_Occasions) {
.
.
And so on...
This way, I only need to change in the storyboard and code level will not have any changes.
Is there way where I can achieve this?
Main Issue
As client ask to change tab bar completely, I need to make changes of selectedIndex changes at all places which I don't like and feel more in-efficient way. So I was looking for a way where I will make change in storyboard only and coding level there won't be any change.
The main issue for me is changing selectedIndex in all files which make more error.
I think I understand the question to mean that the code is full of number literals, referring to the selected index of the tabbar, and the business requirements about the ordering of items are shifting. Fix by changing the literals to something symbolic that can be controlled centrally:
// in a new file, indexes.h
#define INDEXA (0)
#define INDEXB (1)
#define INDEXC (2)
// wherever existing code refers to the tab selection
#import "indexes.h"
// in the code, for example if selectedIndex == 2, change to
if (self.tabBarController.selectedIndex==INDEXC) {
// ...

Titanium: click on element(View, Label e.t.c.) should increase its top by 1

I've binded the same function to all elements that I want(let's say View and Label).
In this onClick handler function I want to get the element which was clicked and increase its 'top' by 1.
Please tell me if you know how to do that, I can't find an answer yet.
My global click handler function:
function increaseElementTop(e) {
// Here we should increase element's top position.
Ti.API.info(JSON.stringify(e));
}
Thanks, any help is appreciated.
Get the e.source attribute from the Event e. Then use the setTop() method.
if (e.source == $.yourLabel) {
$.yourLabel.setTop($.yourLabel.getTop() + 1)
}
UPDATE: Regarding your comment: I thought it would only be used for two elements. A universal approach would be something like this:
e.source.setTop(e.source.getTop() + 1);
Unfortunately I have no machine available to test the code but I will do so later (Tuesday I guess). Just try it and let your programm print the e.source variable. If this does not work you can also try to use e.source.getId().
function increaseElementTop(e) {
var theUIElement = e.source;
theUIElement.top = theUIElement.top + 1;
}
Add the event listener to each of your UIElements, and this will get the element you click on & modify the top.

Share data between scripts?

I want to create a scoring system. I have 4 buttons with 4 different but similar scripts and want to share 1 GUI Text for the scores. Example Code:
var something : Sprite;
var SpriteRenderer : SpriteRenderer;
var score : int = 0;
var guiScore : GUIText;
function OnMouseDown () {
if(SpriteRenderer.sprite == something) {
score += 1;
guiScore.text = "Score: " = score;
}
}
Right now, if I pressed a button and got a point then I pressed a different button the score would start from 0 again. How can I share data something like static variables but different scripts? I know this sounds a bit noobie but any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Static variables won't appear in the inspector so you can't assign the GUIText in the inspector (thanks for making me find out). So try using GetComponent instead:
// make a variable of type GUIText
var guiScore: GUIText;
// assign the gameobject in the inspector
var staticObject: GameObject;
// Again I don't know the name of your script, so I'll name it StaticScript
// get the script
StaticScript scr = staticObject.GetComponent(StaticScript);
// assign local GUIText with the one from above
guiScore = scr.guiScore;
This way you have already shared 1 GUIText for all other scripts.
However you said:
Right now, if I pressed a button and got a point then I pressed a
different button the score would start from 0 again
Doesn't that mean something is wrong with the score, not the GUIText?

How do I dynamically change the height of a TableViewRow?

Application Type: mobile
Titanium SDK: 3.1.0.GA
Platform & version: iOS 6.1
Device: iOS Simulator
Host Operating System: OSX 10.8.3
Titanium Studio: 3.1.0.201304151600
I'd like to conditionally show/hide a textfield in a TableViewRow. In order to do this I need to expand the height of the row. The following code doesn't work, though. The TableViewRow is actually an Alloy controller. I first tried animating it before I realized that it can't be animated. Now I'm just trying to change the height and that isn't even working. I've tried using the setHeight method along with just setting the height property directly to no avail.
Any ideas?
var notesVisible = false;
function notes_click() {
if(notesVisible == false) {
Ti.API.info('expanding');
$.row.height = 200;
// $.notes_container.setHeight(124);
notesVisible = true;
} else {
Ti.API.info('contracting');
$.row.height = 75;
$.notes_container.setHeight(0);
notesVisible = false;
}
};
There are two good ways of doing this, both should be done from the click event listener.
Method 1) One way is to directly change the "height" variable of the row
Method 2) The second is to create a new row and replace the current row with the new row
Method 1 is more straightforward but I found it to be glitchy depending on what version of the SDK you are using, but with 3.1.0 it should work. Both methods should be called from the 'click' eventListener as its easier to tell Titanium which row to act on based on the click
So here is an example
currentTableview.addEventListener('click',function(e)
{
// DO whatever your row is supposed to do when clicked
// Now lets change the height of the row to a new height, 200 in this example
e.row.height = 200
}
With Method two, it involves creating a new row and then replacing the current row with this call
currentTableview.updateRow(e.index,newlyCreatedUpdatedRow);
I know its an old question asked by some one but the solution provided will not work and i think best solution for this is by making a recursive function and changes the height of your row and need to play with the visibility of views inside that row hopefully will help someone :)

Dojo EnhancedGrid and programmatic selection

Here's my problem: in my application I have a Dojo EnhancedGrid, backed up by an ItemFileReadStore. The page flow looks like this:
The user selects a value from a selection list.
The item from the list is posted on a server and then the grid is updated with data from the server (don't ask why, this is how it's supposed to work)
The new item is highlighted in the grid.
Now, the first two steps work like a charm; however, the third step gave me some headaches. After the data is successfully POSTed to the server (via dojo.xhrPost() ) the following code runs:
myGrid.store.close();
myGrid._refresh();
myGrid.store.fetch({
onComplete : function(items) {
for ( var i = 0; i < items.length; i++) {
if (items[i].documentType[0].id == documentTypeId) {
var newItemIndex = myGrid.getItemIndex(items[i]);
exportMappingGrid.selection.deselectAll();
exportMappingGrid.selection.addToSelection(newItemIndex);
}
}
}
});
Now, the selection of the grid is updated (i.e. the selection object has a selectedIndex > 0), but visually there's no response, unless I hover the mouse over the "selected" row. If I remove the .deselectAll() line (which I suspected as the culprit) then I sometimes end up with two items selected at once, although the grid selectionMode attribute is set to single.
Any thoughts on this one?
Thanks a lot.
You need to use setSelected(), like so
exportMappingGrid.selection.setSelected(newItemIndex, true);
The second parameter is true to select the row, false to unselect it.
This is what works for me:
grid.selection.clear();
grid.selection.addToSelection(newItemIndex);
grid.selection.getFirstSelected();
