JEE6 Producer for NewCookie - jboss7.x

I would like to create a CDI producer for
javax.ws.rs.core.NewCookie(java.lang.String name,
java.lang.String value,
java.lang.String path,
java.lang.String domain,
java.lang.String comment,
int maxAge,
boolean secure)
in such a way that the value will be different each time. I did some JEE6 a while ago but my memory is poor!
for ex. my producer for a simple logger is

If you are able to calculate a unique value within a producer method without any additional parameters, then all you have to do is annotate a method with the return value NewCookie:
#Produces NewCookie createCookie() {

If you need to create it subject to some external parameter, then this producer method can have parameters like any other method - but, all of these are injection points and must be obtainable by the container.

// create cookie with parameter value
}
Now, a primitive type (as well as a String) has the problem, that you for sure have other instances of the same type with a different meaning, so you either use a special class like MyValue wrapping your String and use this as an injection point or annotate it with a custom annotation.
#Produces NewCookie createCookie(#CookieValue String value) {
// create cookie with parameter value
}
Then of course, you need again some place where this injected value is produced.
#Produces #CookieValue String createCookieValue() {

Jackson deserialization: How to get a default value even if the JSON property was null

In my project I'm using Jersey 2.23.1 with Jackson for JSON support.
When I'm getting a request with something like { "foo":null, "bar":"123" } as JSON, matching with class A{String foo; String bar;} Jersey first creates and instance of A (with default values if specified in constructor), then deserialize JSON to a temporary object A', then copies all JSON fields that were specified in JSON from A' to A. If I have default values in A-class constructor, and have fields equal to null in JSON, all my default values are erased and replaced by null. So in the example above, if I have a default value for the foo field, it will be replaced by null in the object Jersey will return as param for my #Path annotated method.
I'm using #JsonInclude(Include.NON_NULL) on A class to avoid the transfer of null fields during Response. But it only works for serialization, what about deserialization? I mean, when having { "foo":null } as JSON results in field "foo" = null in new object instance after deserialization.

it results that all null fields in JSON are set to null in my entity and not set to the constructor default values.
Do you know if there is a way to specify Jackson to ignore null fields during deserialization? Or is this a Jersey-related behavior?
There is no way to ignore data from JSON payload in that sense, based on value contained (you can use ignoral to just ignore all values for given property).
So if you want to avoid null assignment, you need define a setter that will just swallow null value (that is, only assign non-null).
Ability to prevent null assignment might a useful feature to add via #JsonFormat.Feature, something like:

so perhaps this could be a feature request.
And the reason I think this belongs to per-property handling is that this seems like a specific rule for some of the properties. Although perhaps there could also be a matching global setting if it seems users really like such null-ignoral.

jdto superclass boolean field binding incorrect value

Isn't this weird? Model class does not have a "funny" field but somehow dto is bind with a wrong value. First I thought jDTO required "getFunny" convention, so it couldn't read the value and just set it "false" but changing the getter name to "getFunny" does not resolve the issue, plus I'm not allowed to modify SuperclassDTO. How can I bind the correct value?

The behavior you're experiencing is a "side effect" of the convention over configuration approach. All the fields on the DTO are configured unless you mark them as transient, either by using the #DTOTransient annotation or the transient configuration on the XML file. If a configured field does not have a corresponding field on the source bean, it will be set with default values and that is the reason why you're experiencing this behavior.
You have some options to overcome this issue:
Add the #DTOTransient annotation to the DTO.
Since you're not able to modify the DTO, you could configure it through XML.
Use Binding lifecycle to Restore the value. By adding code on the subclass.
You might as well submit a bug report on the jDTO issue tracker on github.

AutoFac WCF proxy with changing ClientCredentials

I'm writing a WCF service and am using the AutoFac WCF integration for DI. I have a slightly weird situation where I have a proxy to another service that requires credentials. The credentials will change based on some parameters coming in so I can't just set the values when I'm setting up the container and be done with it.

What's the best way to set the credentials on proxy without having to cast to a known type or ChannelBase. I'm trying to avoid this because in my unit tests I'm mocking out that proxy interface so casting it back to one of those types would fail.
Any thoughts?
You can do it, but it's not straightforward, and you have to slightly change the design so the logic of "decide and set the credentials" is pulled out of the MyService class.
First, let's define the rest of the classes in the scenario so you can see it all come together.
We have the ISomeOtherService interface, which I've modified slightly just so you can actually see what credentials are getting set at the end. I have it return a string instead of being a void. I've also got an implementation of SomeOtherService that has a credential get/set (which is your ClientCredentials in WCF). That all looks like this:

Notice the Credentials property is not exposed by the interface so you can see how this will work without casting the interface to the concrete type.
Next we have the IMyService interface and associated request/response objects for the SomeCall operation you show in your question. (In the question you have SomeData but it's the same idea, I just went with a slightly different naming convention to help me keep straight what was input vs. what was output.)

The interesting part there is that the data we're using to choose the set of credentials is the Number in the request. It could be whatever you want it to be, but using a number here makes the code a little simpler.
Here's where it starts getting more complex. First you really need to be familiar with two Autofac things:
Implicit relationships - we can take a reference on a Func<T> instead of a T to get a "factory that creates T instances."
Using parameters from registration delegates - we can take some inputs and use that to inform the outputs of the resolve operation.
We'll make use of both of those concepts here.
The implementation of MyService gets switched to take a factory that will take in an int and return an instance of ISomeOtherService. When you want to get a reference to the other service, you execute the function and pass in the number that will determine the client credentials.

The real key there is that Func<int, ISomeOtherService> dependency. We'll register ISomeOtherService and Autofac will automatically create a factory that takes in an int and returns an ISomeOtherService for us. No real special work required... though the registration is a little complex.
The last piece is to register a lambda for your ISomeOtherService instead of a simpler type/interface mapping. The lambda will look for a typed int parameter and we'll use that to determine/set the client credentials.

OK, now that you have the registration taking in an integer and returning the service instance, you can just use it:

Boom! The credentials got set without having to cast to the base class.
Design changes:
The credential "set" operation got moved out of the consuming code. If you don't want to cast to the base class in your consuming code, you won't have a choice but to also pull the credential "set" operation out. That logic could be right in the lambda; or you could put it in a separate class that gets used inside that lambda; or you could handle the OnActivated event and do a little magic there (I didn't show that - exercise left to the reader). But the "tie it all together" bit has to be somewhere in the component registration (the lambda, the event handler, etc.) because that's the only point at which you still have the concrete type.
The credentials are set for the lifetime of the proxy. It's probably not good if you have a single proxy in your consuming code where you set different credentials just before you execute each operation. I can't tell from your question if that's how you have it, but... if that's the case, you will need a different proxy for each call. That may mean you actually want to dispose of the proxy after you're done with it, so you'll need to look at using Owned<T> (which will make the factory Func<int, Owned<T>>) or you could run into a memory leak if services are long-lived like singletons.
There are probably other ways to do this, too. You could create your own custom factory; you could handle the OnActivated event that I mentioned; you could use the Autofac.Extras.DynamicProxy2 library to create a dynamic proxy that intercepts calls to your WCF service and sets the credentials before allowing the call to proceed... I could probably brainstorm other ways, but you get the idea. What I posted here is how I'd do it, and hopefully it will at least point you in a direction to help you get where you need to go.
The approach we ended up taking is to cast ISomeOtherService to ClientBase,
This avoids referencing the proxy type. Then in our unit tests we can set up the mock like so

struts2: select tag doesn't like beans with "parameters" property?

I have a base class ReportElement which has type property:

ReportElementType is just an enum with specified code and i18nKey properties for each element. I have a couple of subclasses of ReportElement, each of them introducing their own properties. One of them is Plot:

On some page I needed to display a collection of different ReportElement instances, so I just used struts2 select tag:

This worked like a charm for every element except for Plot instaces. Instead of invoking getType().getCode() or getType().getI18nKey() plain toString() was invoked on every instance of Plot! After several hours of fun debugging I noticed that during tag evaluation Plot's getParameters() method is called! So it seems struts was trying to evaluate type.code and type.i18nKey using getParameters() method! Failing to do that it ignored the existence of the properties, that I have clearly specified for usage!
After renaming getParameters to a kind of odd name like getParamms the problem gone. Also the problem hasn't occured when using iterator tag together with property tag instead of select tag.
Does anyone have an idea WHY struts select tag uses parameters property of my bean, when I have clearly specified what property should be used? Is it some "cool" feature or a bug?
P.S. I use struts 2.2.3.1
The argument used in all the FreeMarker templates representing a tag's parameters is called parameters. By providing a parameters property that takes precedence, S2 was unable to get to the object on the stack containing the tag's parameters.
It's neither a cool feature nor a bug, it's just how the templates are implemented. Checking the template source may have saved the few hours of debugging.

Velocity Eventhandler

in velocity, when you do $object.variable if it not be able to find the getter function to
access it or the getter returns a null. it will just show $object.variable explicitly on the page
I know there is a quiet reference, but I don't want to add ! sign to thousands of variables.
I have tried InvalidReferenceEventHandler, NullValueHandler they all didn't get called.
I wander is there a specific type of Eventhandler for this.

You'll also need to add the following to your velocity.properties file:

You might be surprised at the results though, so it will likely need fine-tuning dependent upon your needs.
I'm basing this off of Engine-1.7 code.
It seems that when an invalid method is called that the utility method EventHandlerUtil.invalidGetMethod is called. This method creates a new InvalidGetMethodExecutor (this is an inner class on InvalidReferenceEventHandler). Eventually this chains down into a call to invalidReferenceHandlerCall which eventually iterates over any handlerIterators which have been defined. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the internals of Velocity to tell you how to inject these values though. My guess is that the user list will suggest a way to override this behavior or a suggestion will be to use / implement a custom tool.

According to the Developer Guide you can do the following. You'll need to write some code to deal with it, but it shouldn't be too difficult:

This property sets the 'Uberspector', the introspection package that handles all introspection strategies for Velocity. You can specify a comma-separated list of Uberspector classes, in which case all Uberspectors are chained. The default chaining behaviour is to return the first non-null value for each introspection call among all provided uberspectors. You can modify this behaviour (for instance to restrict access to some methods) by subclassing org.apache.velocity.util.introspection.AbstractChainableUberspector (or implementing directly org.apache.velocity.util.introspection.ChainableUberspector). This allows you to create more interesting rules or patterns for Uberspection, rather than just returning the first non-null value.
