Nuxt Generate dynamic routes from the store - vue.js

I'm using nuxt.js and now need to generate my dynamic pages by running npm run generate. However my list items needed to make dynamic items are stored in the store, so I need to map over them somehow so the generate can make the routes for them
How can I access the store in my nuxt.config.js?
generate: {
dir: 'wwwroot', //override the default generation dir to create everything straight in wwwroot
routes() {
let vdc = this.$store.vdcServers.map(server => `/virtual-data-centres/${server.slug}`);
return Promise.all([vdc]).then(values => {
return values.join().split(',');
})
}
}
Output
ERROR Could not resolve routes
FATAL Cannot read properties of undefined (reading '$store')

To my knowledge, you cannot access the store from that place. Maybe with some hooks? I doubt.
Meanwhile, if you have your elements available in your store you should be able to find them back by making a quick axios call or like I think.
This kind of approach is totally fine
import axios from 'axios'
export default {
generate: {
routes(callback) {
axios
.get('https://my-api/users')
.then(res => {
const routes = res.data.map(user => {
return '/users/' + user.id
})
callback(null, routes)
})
.catch(callback)
}
}
}
It may be a bit of code duplication, meanwhile, it's still the simplest way to go.
Otherwise, you could try to persist it to some localStorage or any similar solution, to have it both in Vuex and during your generation.

Fetch data from local JSON file with Nuxt Pinia

Is it possible to fetch a local .json. file using fetch()? I originally used the import method but the site's data doesn't get updated unless the page gets reloaded.
I tried doing this but it's not working:
stores/characters.ts
export const useCharactersStore = defineStore("characters", {
state: () => ({
characters: [],
}),
getters: {
getCharacters: (state) => {
return state.characters;
},
},
actions: {
fetchCharacters() {
fetch("../data.json")
.then((response) => response.json())
.then((data) => {
this.characters = data.characters;
});
},
},
});
app.vue
import { useCharactersStore } from "~/stores/characters";
const store = useCharactersStore();
onMounted(() => {
store.fetchCharacters();
});
Any help would be appreciated.
maybe a bit late but I have encountered the same problem migration from Nuxt 2 to Nuxt 3.
I'm certainly no expert on this, so if anyone finds a better way or if I'm totally wrong please let me know !
Whenever you import a json file in vue code they are imported as a module, that get's embedded within the code compilation on build (Vue Docs). Tu use json as a external file you need to place your json within the /public directory and use axios or fetch to load the file with a lifecyle hook.
This could be mounted() for options api or beforeMount()/onMounted() with composition api.
However some important annotations for this method.
If the json file you want to use in your app is not reactive, i.e. won't change, you should place this in the static folder of the nuxt app.
In your example you fetch '../data/...', this would imply the server knows the domain to look for. It can't call the route like this, you would have to give the full url if you put your json file in the static folder.
Set the baseUrl in the of your nuxt.config.ts, see docs for specifications.
Then you can access the static folder with your .env variables
--> $fe
Then in you data script you can access your json file
async getJson(some parameters){
const data = $fetch('your domain with the runtimeConfig composable').then((data)=>{ console.log(data)});
Sidenote you can also load the file from the server-side using fs.readFile

Running Nuxt middleware client side after static rendering

We're switching from SPA to statically generated, and are running into a problem with middleware.
Basically, when Nuxt is statically rendered, middleware is run on the build server first, and then is run after each page navigation client side. The important point is that middleware is not run client side on first page load. This is discussed here
We work around this for some use cases by creating a plugin that uses the same code, since plugins are run on the first client load.
However, this pattern doesn't work well for this use case. The following is an example of the middleware that we want to use:
// middleware/authenticated.js
export default function ({ store, redirect }) {
// If the user is not authenticated
if (!store.state.authenticated) {
return redirect('/login')
}
}
// Inside a component
<template>
<h1>Secret page</h1>
</template>
<script>
export default {
middleware: 'authenticated'
}
</script>
This example is taken directly from the Nuxt docs.
When rendered statically, this middleware is not called on first page load, so a user might end up hitting their dashboard before they've logged in, which causes problems.
To add this to a plugin, the only way I can think to do this is by adding a list of authenticated_routes, which the plugin could compare to and see if the user needs to be authed.
The problem with that solution though is that we'd then need to maintain a relatively complex list of authed pages, and it's made worse by having dynamic routes, which you'd need to match a regex to.
So my question is: How can we run our authenticated middleware, which is page specific, without needing to maintain some list of routes that need to be authenticated? Is there a way to actually get the middleware associated to a route inside a plugin?
To me it is not clear how to solve it the right way. We are just using the static site generation approach. We are not able to run a nuxt middleware for the moment. If we detect further issues with the following approach we have to switch.
One challenge is to login the user on hot reload for protected and unprotected routes. As well as checking the login state when the user switches the tabs. Maybe session has expired while he was on another tab.
We are using two plugins for that. Please, let me know what you think.
authRouteBeforeEnter.js
The plugin handles the initial page load for protected routes and checks if the user can access a specific route while navigating around.
import { PROTECTED_ROUTES } from "~/constants/protectedRoutes"
export default ({ app, store }) => {
app.router.beforeEach(async (to, from, next) => {
if(to.name === 'logout'){
await store.dispatch('app/shutdown', {userLogout:true})
return next('/')
}
if(PROTECTED_ROUTES.includes(to.name)){
if(document.cookie.indexOf('PHPSESSID') === -1){
await store.dispatch('app/shutdown')
}
if(!store.getters['user/isLoggedIn']){
await store.dispatch('user/isAuthenticated', {msg: 'from before enter plugin'})
console.log('user is logged 2nd try: ' + store.getters['user/isLoggedIn'])
return next()
}
else {
/**
* All fine, let him enter
*/
return next()
}
}
return next()
})
}
authRouterReady.js
This plugin ment for auto login the user on unprotected routes on initial page load dnd check if there is another authRequest required to the backend.
import { PROTECTED_ROUTES } from "~/constants/protectedRoutes";
export default function ({ app, store }) {
app.router.onReady(async (route) => {
if(PROTECTED_ROUTES.includes(route.name)){
// Let authRouterBeforeEnter.js do the job
// to avoid two isAuthorized requests to the backend
await store.dispatch('app/createVisibilityChangedEvent')
}
else {
// If this route is public do the full init process
await store.dispatch('app/init')
}
})
}
Additionally i have added an app module to the store. It does a full init process with auth request and adding a visibility changed event or just adds the event.
export default {
async init({ dispatch }) {
dispatch('user/isAuthenticated', {}, {root:true})
dispatch('createVisibilityChangedEvent')
},
async shutdown({ dispatch }, {userLogout}) {
dispatch('user/logout', {userLogout}, {root:true})
},
async createVisibilityChangedEvent({ dispatch }) {
window.addEventListener('visibilitychange', async () => {
if (document.visibilityState === 'visible') {
console.log('visible changed');
await dispatch('user/isAuthenticated', {}, {root:true})
}
})
},
}

Forward basiauth to axios

I have a site which makes an Axios request. Both the backend and vuejs frontend are on the same domain, and have the same basic auth covering them.
The issue is that whilst the pages load, as soon as an Axios request is made, it asks me again for the basic auth, which doesn't even work if I fill in the details.
Now I imagine I need to pass through the basic auth details somehow, but none of the things I have tried work (and example being below).
If anyone has any tips on passing through the auth token from the parent page to the axios request, that would be great.
const requestOne = axios.get(requestUrl)
const requestTwo = axios.get(requestUrl)
axios
.all([requestOne, requestTwo])
.then(
axios.spread((...responses) => {
<some code here>
})
)
I just answered a similar question with the 3 ways to pass around data in Vue.
You might find it helpful: How to pass v-for index to other components
However, in my opinion, the best approach would be to create a Vue plugin with your Axios client and an init method.
Consider this following (untested) example:
axiosClient.js
import Vue from 'vue';
let instance;
export const getInstance = () => instance;
export const useAxios = () => {
if (instance) return instance;
instance = new Vue({
data() {
return {
client: null,
}
}
});
methods: {
init(authToken) {
this.client = axios.create({
headers: {'Authorization': authToken }
});
}
}
}
export const axiosPlugin = {
install(Vue) {
Vue.prototype.$axios = useAxios();
},
};
Vue.use(axiosPlugin);
Once installed, you can access this in your components using $axios.init(...) and $axios.client.
You can even write API methods directly onto the plugin as well and interact with Vuex through the plugin!
You may need to tweak the plugin a little (and keep in mind this is Vue2 syntax) as I wrote this directly into StackOverflow.
You can also pass any other default values or configuration options through to the axios client by providing options to the plugin and accessing them within init.
You can learn more about plugins here: https://v2.vuejs.org/v2/guide/plugins.html

Vue/Nuxt: How to define a global method accessible to all components?

I just want to be able to call
{{ globalThing(0) }}
in templates, without needing to define globalThing in each .vue file.
I've tried all manner of plugin configurations (or mixins? not sure if Nuxt uses that terminology.), all to no avail. It seems no matter what I do, globalThing and this.globalThing remain undefined.
In some cases, I can even debug in Chrome and see this this.globalThing is indeed defined... but the code crashes anyway, which I find very hard to explain.
Here is one of my many attempts, this time using a plugin:
nuxt.config.js:
plugins: [
{
src: '~/plugins/global.js',
mode: 'client'
},
],
global.js:
import Vue from 'vue';
Vue.prototype.globalFunction = arg => {
console.log('arg', arg);
return arg;
};
and in the template in the .vue file:
<div>gloabal test {{globalFunction('toto')}}</div>
and... the result:
TypeError
_vm.globalFunction is not a function
Here's a different idea, using Vuex store.
store/index.js:
export const actions = {
globalThing(p) {
return p + ' test';
}
};
.vue file template:
test result: {{test('fafa')}}
.vue file script:
import { mapActions } from 'vuex';
export default {
methods: {
...mapActions({
test: 'globalThing'
}),
}
};
aaaaaaaaand the result is.........
test result: [object Promise]
OK, so at least the method exists this time. I would much prefer not to be forced to do this "import mapActions" dance etc. in each component... but if that's really the only way, whatever.
However, all I get is a Promise, since this call is async. When it completes, the promise does indeed contain the returned value, but that is of no use here, since I need it to be returned from the method.
EDIT
On the client, "this" is undefined, except that..... it isn't! That is to say,
console.log('this', this);
says "undefined", but Chrome's debugger claims that, right after this console log, "this" is exactly what it is supposed to be (the component instance), and so is this.$store!
I'm adding a screenshot here as proof, since I don't even believe my own eyes.
https://nuxtjs.org/guide/plugins/
Nuxt explain this in Inject in $root & context section.
you must inject your global methods to Vue instance and context.
for example we have a hello.js file.
in plugins/hello.js:
export default (context, inject) => {
const hello = (msg) => console.log(`Hello ${msg}!`)
// Inject $hello(msg) in Vue, context and store.
inject('hello', hello)
// For Nuxt <= 2.12, also add 👇
context.$hello = hello
}
and then add this file in nuxt.config.js:
export default {
plugins: ['~/plugins/hello.js']
}
Use Nuxt's inject to get the method available everywhere
export default ({ app }, inject) => {
inject('myInjectedFunction', (string) => console.log('That was easy!', string))
}
Make sure you access that function as $myInjectedFunction (note $)
Make sure you added it in nuxt.config.js plugins section
If all else fails, wrap the function in an object and inject object so you'd have something like $myWrapper.myFunction() in your templates - we use objects injected from plugins all over the place and it works (e.g. in v-if in template, so pretty sure it would work from {{ }} too).
for example, our analytics.js plugin looks more less:
import Vue from 'vue';
const analytics = {
setAnalyticsUsersData(store) {...}
...
}
//this is to help Webstorm with autocomplete
Vue.prototype.$analytics = analytics;
export default ({app}, inject) => {
inject('analytics', analytics);
}
Which is then called as $analytics.setAnalyticsUsersData(...)
P.S. Just noticed something. You have your plugin in client mode. If you're running in universal, you have to make sure that this plugin (and the function) is not used anywhere during SSR. If it's in template, it's likely it actually is used during SSR and thus is undefined. Change your plugin to run in both modes as well.
This would be the approach with Vuex and Nuxt:
// store/index.js
export const state = () => ({
globalThing: ''
})
export const mutations = {
setGlobalThing (state, value) {
state.globalThing = value
}
}
// .vue file script
export default {
created() {
this.$store.commit('setGlobalThing', 'hello')
},
};
// .vue file template
{{ this.$store.state.globalThing }}

Nuxt/Vuejs - How to create utils that have access to modules?

I am using asiox/vuejs to create a webpage. However I want to compartmentalize the code more. One example is I use axios to make requests to the backend, and the data in the response is commited into vuex.
this.$axios.get('events').then((response) => {
this.$store.commit('data/populate', response.data)
})
.catch((e) => {
console.error(e)
})
I want to write a util method for this, like this.$populate.events()
I have tried creating utils inside the plugins/ directory, but they dont have access to this.$axios or this.$store
Note that I have axios and vuex imported in nuxt.config.js
How can this be achieved?
If you need the function in the context, Vue instances and maybe even
in the Vuex store, you can use the inject function, which is the
second parameter of the plugins exported function.
Injecting content into Vue instances works similar to when doing this
in standard Vue apps. The $ will be prepended automatically to the
function.
Reference
export default ({ app, store }, inject) => {
inject("populate", () => {
app.$axios
.get("events")
.then(response => {
store.commit("data/populate", response.data);
})
.catch(e => {
console.error(e);
});
});
};
app variable is context property.
The root Vue instance options that includes all your plugins. For
example, when using axios, you can get access to $axios through
context.app.$axios.
Figured it out not 5 minutes after posting ...
Basically use this nuxt guide
And replace this with app in the method you'd like to move
