I plan to upgrade my window from 2012 to window 2019.
Before upgrade, I need to make sure my application workable.
Is there have any place allow me to test it?
Some cloud or lab for testing?

I am testing web based products, and I am new to Microsoft tools. I am trying to figure out how test plan creation works, or can work depending on what configuration of Visual Studio tools I am using. I find a lot of conflicting info online.
I have the three tools below installed right now, but I can request something different if I need it. (Feel free to suggest). Any advice from pros more experienced with this tool set would be GREAT.
I access Team Foundation Server 2012 via my browser, where I can view and add product backlog items, bugs, sprints, the board etc. I cannot add test plans here, but I can add test cases to them.
I have Visual Studio 2013 installed on my PC. This seems like pretty much the same thing as the browser accessible tool, and I don't use it much because I find it easier to work from the browser for testing web.
I have Microsoft Test Manager 2012 installed on my PC. This appears to be the only place where I can create test plans, cases, and can create and utilize shared test case steps.
Questions:
How can I create test plans using the browser tool?
Is it possible to update the TFS 2012 Browser Tool to 2013, and how is that done?

Team Foundation Server 2012 update 2 adds Web Based test Case Management to TFS 2012, this is a smaller step than an upgrade to TFS 2013 all the way. You cannot just upgrade the Web Access part of a TFS installation, it would require a complete upgrade of the cluster. You also cannot just install this to your machine, it has to be installed on all the TFS servers in the cluster.
Traditionally Test Manager is the place to go to to do Test Suite Management and to view the results of a test run. Microsoft has started to move the functionality traditionally found in Test manager to the Web portal, It seems you're not the only person who found that easier to use. This transition started with TFS 2012 update 3 and was further expanded with TFS 2013.
So your options are:
Use Test Manager (you'll have to use it to manage certain things you cannot yet do on the web anyway).
Ask your Server Administrator to upgrade TFS 2012 to at least Update 2 (I'd recommend he upgrades to TFS 2012 update 4 or TFS 2013 in any case).
Ask your Server Administrator to upgrade TFS 2012 to TFS 2013.

we've been asked to change a webapp we're making to metro interface, the thing is, we have only Visual Studio 2005, what should we do to be able to change our app to Metro?
You will need Visual Studio 2012 as far as I am aware. You can use the free Express Edition of Visual Studio 2012 for building Windows 8 Apps. You will also need to be running Windows 8. You cannot develop Windows 8 Apps on Windows 7, Vista, or any other OS version less than 8.
You can install the Express Edition of 2012 along side Visual Studio 2005 and have them run side-by-side, it doesn't replace 2005, so you can keep using it.
As far as doing it within visual studio 2005 I don't think it's possible. But what you would need is the Windows 8 SDK.
You may be able to get by with the open source IDE Sharp Develop. I haven't used it in a long time so I'm not sure how far you'll get with it.
Requirements for Developing windows 8 Application :-

with visual studio 2005 you wont be able to build the app as 1,2 are the basic requirements, hence forth once you start you can go through the links below to make ur app perfet for the windows store
Note : one bad news . Ull have to code entire thing again as metro is a subset of the win32 api's and it will not even recognize some of them .
I have Windows 7 Professional x64. I have Visual Studio 2010 Premium and Visual Studio 2012 Premium installed on my machine.
I installed TFS Power Tools Decemeber 2011. I restarted my computer after successful installation. I then checked out a folder from TFS 2010 but the TFS menu items in Windows Explorer context menu do not appear when i right click on the folder.
I even reinstalled it by uinstalling it, restarting the pc and installing it again then restarting it again but same issue.
I have followed the instructions outlined in here:

But same issue same issue occurs. Would anyone know what else i can do to get the TFS menu items to appear in the context menu please?

I am not sure if this would help or you are willing to use a new version but I had the exact same environment and issue with you.
What I had done is that I uninstalled the old TFS Power Tools ( listed with a "Microsoft Team Foundation Server" prefix and/or "Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server" in Control-Panel/Programs-and-Features ) and install a newer version which is RTM. You can download them at http://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/download/details.aspx?id=35775 and install the following in the same order listed below
Team Foundation Server 2012 RTM Power Tools.msi
Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 Update 1 Power Tools.msi
Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 Update 2 Power Tools.msi
Close Visual Studio before you start then restart after installing, you should see your context menu afterwards together with the green arrow that indicates it is in TFS

It sometimes takes a while for the TfsComProviderSvr.exe to check if
the local folder is a workspace and register the shell extension.
So this depends on many variables, your TFS server speed, your machine speed and your network speed. In my case I left it overnight to fully show everything.
Windows has a limit on home many overlay icons it can support. This started happening to me after i installed google drive, one drive, and dropbox and the TFSOverlay got pushed down to the bottom in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer \ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
You can fix it by either
Uninstalling some of the overlay apps. (Eg: remove Google drive
or Dropbox)
Rename the TFS folders in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer \ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers to start with numbers so they take priority (Eg: "1TfsOverlayAdd" , "2TfsOverlayEdit" etc.).
Also there is usually a delay for the green icons to appear in the folder explorer, so be patient.
I was having the same problem and just I executed this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2012 Power
Tools\TfsComProviderSvr.exe
After a few minutes the menu appeared.
This problem also occurs when you are running Visual Studio under different credentials (i.e. an account with Administrator privileges) than the logged on user. Logging on as that same user displays the ShellExtension correctly. But that's just not an option here...
I have not yet found a solution. It would be a nice feature to be able to set some options for TfsComProviderSvr.exe, so that one can let it watch workspace folders for a different 'Team Member' than the logged on user...
I've tried running Explorer.exe with other credentials, but that does not spawn a new TfsComProviderSvr.exe. Starting it by hand with the different credentials also does not seem to work. An instance of TfsComProviderSvr.exe is always (re)spawned for the currently logged on user.
Forgive me for sharing the obvious, but I had a similar issue, and in my case it appears that the default selected installed features were different than I expected.
I reran the installer using "Modify" instead of "Repair" and confirmed that the Windows Shell Extension feature was selected for installation:
I'm running a similar environment (VS 2010 Shell with VS 2013 Professional). Perhaps that impacts the defaults.
Here is the Power Tools Installer that I used.
I had a similar issue, I ripped off old the version, gave me some issues as you have to stop the TFS process and the explorer process but you can always restart explorer again once the old version has been uninstalled.
Then I restated my machine.

Restarted my pc again
Navigated to a source control folder and all TFS icons and shell extensions now started to appear.
Bottom line, the latest version worked for me, did not have to fiddle with reg'values at all.
Here's how I fixed mine. I had installed Visual Studio 2015 and installed TFS Power Tools for VS 2015. I also installed Visual Studio 2017. I generally use VS 2017 and had attached to TFS there. I hadn't attached VS 2015 to TFS and the power tools menu would not show up in explorer. I finally realized that when they say you have to have the same version of Visual Studio installed that you ALSO have to have that visual studio Team Explorer connected to TFS. You don't have to use it beyond that, but it must be connected using the dialog, like you see here.
I have installed both of above, but they are installed as two completely separate IDEs! In the RC version, I could program both metro-style apps and desktop apps in one. It's very unpractical to have two Visual Studios. Is there a way to merge these IDEs?
No, you can't combine them.
The Express editions are designed to be separate programs for separate tasks.
If you want an all-in-one IDE then you have to purchase a full version of Visual Studio (Professional for example).
You're looking for Visual Studio Professional or higher (as opposed to Express), which does everything.
Yes. Buy the full product. If cost is an issue for you, I'm afraid you will have to live with having 2 IDEs installed.
Each time I launch the install, it launches the SQL Server Express 2008 panel instead of Management Studio why ?
Ok, I just need to vent little bit and add myself to the list of angry users.
Why they went ahead and messed up the SQL installer is beyond me.
Took me 1+ hour to install SSMS because TO ADD A FEATURE you must select PERFORM A NEW INSTALLATION grrr....

You need to follow the same steps when installing Studio Express as you would to install Sql Express (or a new instance of):
Installation > New Sql Server standalone... > click OK/NEXT until you're sick of it > Perform a new installation of.... > OK/NEXT a few more times > and there it is, "Management Tools - Basic"!

Just go to Installation -> New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation -> Add features to an existing instance. If You downloaded Management Studio installation, you'll have option with it. It is really dumb that You have to do it this way, but that is how it works:)
It is weird and I think the whole installation needs to be re done, (im having my own issues with it right now!)
I just installed management studio express on top of my SQL express 2008 installation and I had to do it by selecting a new installation / instance at the selection screen. If you select modify a existing installation, it only shows the components already installed.
When you do this, it only installs the management studio - nothing else despite it looking like it will from the selection screen.
maybe you've not installed all the components n driver it requires, have you?
