I was using VSCode to debug my application but I needed to install Reanimated 2 and after that it was no longer possible to debug in the same way I used to debug.
.vscode/launch.json:
The second configuration works but is without Hermes, which prevents me from debugging the application when he use Reanimated 2.
The first configuration (with Hermes) cannot connect to my packager, when starting debug mode it only shows these messages:
Remembering that I'm using Expo and before trying to debug I run the command to start the packager:
$ expo start --dev-client -c

How to catch breakpoints in vscode in React Native cli project?
Background:
Few days ago I started learning react native.
I was able to catch breakpoints in vscode in my expo projects. With some settings but still.
But when I started new cli project I lost this comfort.
Notes:
Debug is activated on virtual android machine
react native tools
package is installed
Attach to packager as the default debug
configuration (During launch.json creation I was missing „React
native“ environment option. Do not know why.)
I run my apps normally with two commands
npm start
npx react-native run-android
Thank you for your time.
Looking at this doc: https://github.com/wix/Detox/blob/master/docs/APIRef.Configuration.md
It says that the
Build command (either xcodebuild, react-native run-ios, etc...), will
be later available through detox CLI tool.
I'm trying to setup the build command to work with Android. Am I supposed to add react-native run-android to the build command? What do they mean by Detox CLI tool?
The build field is optional, and should contain whichever execution logic needed in order to have the .apk file set and ready in the path specified in binaryPath. You are more than welcome to refer to the Detox example project, which was set up as a reference exactly for these type of questions.
In any case, from the react-native CLI tool's help: react-native run-android = builds your app and starts it on a connected Android emulator or device. That makes it not very suitable, as we typically want to build the app, and have detox launch the emulator (optional) and install the app on the device(s), as needed.
I have created a new React Native project using npx react-native ProjectName. When trying to start it with react run android, the Metro bundler starts but after a second it closes without displaying any error. This project was created with WebStorm that displayed in the project creation dialog that it used v2.0.1 of the cli.
I saw on github that this is a known bug of this version so I created another project manually with npx react-native#latest, but without any result.
Also, when trying to start the project with npm start I get this error:
Invalid regular expression: /(.*\\__fixtures__\\.*|node_modules[\\\]react[\\\]dist[\\\].*|website\\node_modules\\.*|heapCapture\\bundle\.js|.*\\__tests__\\.*)$/: Unterminated character class. Run CLI with --verbose flag for more details.
Any suggestions?
I'm trying to run a boilerplate react-native app and the packager seems to stall out right at the beginning when the javascript bundle is requested. Eventually the iOS simulator gives up and throws Could not connect to development server.
Here is the terminal output:
[01/17/2017, 10:48:00] <START> Initializing Packager
[01/17/2017, 10:48:00] HMR Server listening on /hot
React packager ready.
[01/17/2017, 10:48:47] <START> Requesting bundle
bundle_url: /index.ios.bundle?platform=ios&dev=true&minify=false
I haven't been in react-native for a few months but I used to be able to specify whether the app should load from a bundle or just load the js directly. I would load directly when the xCode project was in debug mode or from a bundle when in release mode.
Again this is just straight boilderplate - no external packages or anything. Just using react-native init TestProj and then cd TestProj/ && react-native run-ios
I'm using the last version of react-native 0.40.0 and the expected react dependency of react#~15.4.0-rc.4.
Thanks for any help on this.
I'm not sure what the issue was but it was fixed after I restarted my computer. I also had issues getting the code to refresh once the app was loaded. That was fixed by uninstalling nodemon globally.
Is there any good document/video that talks about how to debug a react-native application using Nuclide.
Am a newbie. Its my first time app development and first time with React.
I did create the project using react-native init. I don't think i found a BUCK file for me to run and debug my app. I also don't see to get how to view the errors in my JS file. I have to run the simulator to see. I run it using react-native run-ios.
I tried Nuclide->React Native->Start Debugging. Not sure what this is supposed to do.
Sorry if these questions sound silly.
According to this instruction you should:
From the command Palette (Cmd-Shift-P) choose "Nuclide React Native: Start Packager" to start the React Native Server.
Ensure that you are in the root directory of the React Native project, then run the application from the command-line: "$ react-native run-ios" (or choose other existing simulator, for example react-native run-ios --simulator="iPhone4s").
After starting the server, you can prime the React Native Debugger for when the application begins running. From the command Palette (Cmd-Shift-P), launch "Nuclide React Native: Start Debugging".
From the Simulator press Cmd-D (Ctrl-D on Linux). This will bring up the debug options for your application. Select "Debug JS Remotely.
...After you enable debugging from the simulated application, Nuclide will attach to that debugging process automatically, since we primed the Debugger above.
Debug JS in Nuclide is now an option in the dev menu added in React Native version 0.52 December 2017 release.
