I want to use search, undo, delete etc. using keyboard in my main editor window and NEVER on my project window.
But once I click file in the project window, I must now do second click into the editor, otherwise my keyboard will start wreaking havoc in the filesystem.
Please tell me there is an intelligent way to disable this!
Could not find it myself, mostly because I don't know how to even name this behaviour.

Hi I have to make a lot of searches in InteliJ and I want navigate between findings of searched text and code preview of specific file.
I tried to search it on web, and also combination of shortcuts like tab, ctrl+tab and many more but nothing work.. Do you know how to switch between those two windows?

The code preview window is intended to be used as exactly that - a preview, not a UI to be used for complex editing operations. If you need to do anything with the search results, use the "Open in Find Window" button to open the toolwindow with the results. After that, you can use for example Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down to navigate between the occurrences, or other keyboard shortcut to switch between the toolwindow and the editor.
On mac in NetBeans 8.2 I have a panel with a run button.
It's a bit strange to me after Visual Studio that there is no Stop button there. Is there a simple way to add it?
It should do the same as Shift+command+fn+delete or Stop Build/Run

I don't think it is possible to easily do what you want.
The only place the Stop icon/button appears in NetBeans is in the Output window, and that is not available for reuse elsewhere, so NetBean's View > Toolbars > Customize functionality won't be of any use.
However....it is trivial to specify a shortcut key for the action associated with the Run > Stop Build/Run menu entry:
In NetBeans select Tools > Options
Click the Keymap icon. All the actions will be listed, along with their shortcuts.
Type Stop in the Search field to locate the Stop Build/Run action.
For the listed action named Stop Build/Run click the ellipsis and select Edit... from the popup menu.
The cursor will move to the Shortcut field. You can now select any available shortcut. For example, in the screen shot below I pressed the ALT key, and then selected ALT+T from the drop menu of available shortcuts.
Then, you can just submit ALT-T from the keyboard to terminate a running application, instead clicking the Stop button in the Output window, or selecting Run > Stop Build / Run.
I know that you were asking for a toolbar solution, but in the absence of one perhaps a keyboard shortcut is a viable alternative.
I'm big on not using the mouse, especially while writing code. I've noticed in IntelliJ IDEA 2016.1 that when I'm navigating in the project window, hitting Enter while a particular file is selected opens the file in an editor, but it doesn't place the cursor in the editor. Interestingly, if I double-click on the file in the project window, the cursor is placed in the editor.
How do I configure IntelliJ to place the cursor in the editor after opening the file via Enter from the project window?
To the best of my knowledge, I do not believe there is a way to configure what you are looking for. A search for focus in the settings didn't turn up anything.
That said, hitting Esc when in the project view will return you to the editor. So you would need to do Enter, Esc. If having to type two keys in a row bothers you, you could always record a macro (Edit > Macros) to do that key sequence and map it to a shortcut.
I have recently removed tabs from my IntelliJ setup, because with all the features available to navigate between files, who needs them?
The issue is, the normal way of detaching an editor window would be to drag the tab onto another screen (or area). There doesn't appear to be anything in the key mappings for detaching an editor window. Is there a way of doing this via the keyboard?
The keyboard shortcut your are looking for is SHIFT+F4 (the action assigned to this shortcut is called Open Source in New Window. When you invoke this action the currently opened tab (file) will be opened in new editor window. However the file will remain opened in the main window too, but I believe that this is as close as you can get to the functionality you describe, at least for now.
Option 2
Open the "Open class" dialog using CTRL+N search for a class you want to open in detached window and hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. That will open the class in a new editor window.
Unfortunately this seems to work only for Java classes and not for other files (CTRL+SHIFT+N dialog). I created a bug report for the last problem, so if you think it might be useful, feel free to vote for it.
In my IntelliJ Idea 13.1.2 IDE I keep running into situations where I'm selecting on a click and drag via my laptop touch pad. I keep accidentally clicking and dragging text and cutting lines. I've searched the options and settings panels for the words click and drag but I don't see a way to turn this feature off. IntelliJ's help talks about how to use click and drag cutting but doesn't say how to disable it.
Does anyone know how to disable cut and paste through click and drag in the IntelliJ IDE?
I found it in Settings → Editor → General.
Under the Mouse heading. The option is called "Enable Drag'n'Drop functionality in editor".
This also seems to disable drag and drop moving of files though.
In WebStorm 2020.1 (and presumably in other Jetbrains IDEs), the related option 'Move code fragments with drag-and-drop' is in Preferences > Editor > General:
Unchecking the checkbox does the trick without unwanted side effects such as also disabling the drag-and-drop operations for files etc.
There is no way to disable Drag-n-drop highlighted text in the editor itself!!! ALT guard for drag-n-drop files is a good idea as I accidentally drag and drop files on daily basis. Kudos for discovering that I just enabled it.
I have contacted Intellij support to give us a setting that we can disable in editor drag and drop. I think that is a stupid feature in the first place...
