SELECT subquery for dates in BETWEEN WHERE clause - sql

I want to use dates from a different table in the BETWEEN inside the WHERE clause.
How can I inject the dates? The query below works, but is much slower than using plain dates.
I've tried rewriting the query in numerous ways, as well as use CTEs, to no avail.
Is there a way to make this work faster?
select *
from (
select
ti.*,
si.anvat as vat,
cast(si.acName as nvarchar(255)) productNameOriginal,
cast(su.acName as nvarchar(255)) unit,
cast(ss.acName2 as nvarchar(255)) supplier,
historyStart,
historyEnd
from tenderItem ti
left join the_setitem si on si.acIdent = ti.sku
left join tHE_SetUM su on su.acUM = si.acUM
left join tHE_SetSubj ss on ss.acSubject = si.acSupplier
left join tender t on t.id = ti.tenderId
where tenderId = 1
) t1
left join (
select
acident sku,
sum(anQty) historyQuantity,
round(max(anRTPrice), 2) historyPrice
from the_moveitem mi
left join the_move m on m.ackey = mi.ackey
where
m.acDocType in (
'3000'
'3050'
)
and m.acreceiver = '11111'
and m.addate
between (select historyStart from tender where id = 1) -- <------ THIS PART
and (select historyEnd from tender where id = 1) -- <------ THIS PART
group by acident
) history on history.sku = t1.sku

Managed to solve it by using variables.
DECLARE #historyStart DATE;
SET #historyStart = (select historyStart from tender where id = #tenderId);
DECLARE #historyEnd DATE;
SET #historyEnd = (select historyEnd from tender where id = #tenderId);
--
and m.addate between #historyStart and #historyEnd

i want to add some logic in where clause
this line
==> AND MUD.DistributorCode IN (SELECT DistributorCode FROM dbo.MasterUsersDistributor WHERE UserCode = #UserLoginID)
it depend on the #RoleUser variable, if #RoleUser IN ('A','B') then where clause above is executed, but if #RoleUser Not IN ('A','B') where clause not executed
i,m trying this where clause
AND IIF(#RoleUser IN ('A','B'), MUD.DistributorCode, #RoleUser) IN (SELECT DistributorCode FROM dbo.MasterUsersDistributor WHERE UserCode = IIF(#RoleUser IN ('A','B'), #UserLoginID, NULL))
it didn't work, only executed if #RoleUser IS ('A','B') other than that it return 0 record
any help or advice is really appreciated
thank you
The cleanest way I'm implemented these kind of crazy rules is a
holderTable
and a countVariable against the holder table.
I'll give a generic examples.
This is a "approach" and "philosophy", not a specific answer....with complex WHERE clauses.
DECLARE #customerCountryCount int
DECLARE #customerCountry TABLE ( CountryName varchar(15) )
if ( "the moon is blue on tuesday" ) /* << whatever rules you have */
BEGIN
INSERT INTO #customerCountry SELECT "Honduras" UNION ALL SELECT "Malaysia"
END
if ( "favorite color = green" ) /* << whatever rules you have */
BEGIN
INSERT INTO #customerCountry SELECT "Greenland" UNION ALL SELECT "Peru"
END
SELECT #customerCountryCount = COUNT(*) FROM #customerCountry
Select * from dbo.Customers c
WHERE
(#customerCountryCount = 0)
OR
( exists (select null from #customerCountry innerVariableTable where UPPER(innerVariableTable.CountryName) = UPPER(c.Country) ))
)
This way, instead of putting all the "twisted logic" in an overly complex WHERE statement..... you have "separation of concerns"...
Your inserts into #customerCountry are separated from your use of #customerCountry.
And you have the #customerCountryCount "trick" to distinguish when nothing was used.
You can add a #customerCountryNotExists table as well, and code it to where not exists.
As a side note, you may want to try using a #temp table (instead of a #variabletable (#customerCountry above)... and performance test these 2 options.
There is no "single answer". You have to "try it out".
And many many variables go into #temp table performance (from a sql-server SETUP, not "how you code a stored procedure". That is way outside the scope of this question.
Here is a SOF link to "safe" #temp table usage.

Order by on a nested query

Is their a way to order this by the Time column? I am not sure how to do this. The time is the schedule and I just need it to go from the morning to the evening.
Can I just nest another select statement and use that?
Thank you.

AND cvse.AdminScheduleSlotsEmployeeID IS NOT NULL
) dt
First off, there is no need for the derived table dt, as you are not doing any further processing.
Secondly, you can combine the two correlated subqueries into one with an APPLY.
Thirdly, conversions on columns can cause performance issues, so you can change the date check to a half-open interval, converting just GETDATE().
Finally you can add at the end an ORDER BY clause to sort.

e.LastName,
e.FirstName,

Group BY Expression column

we're trying to make our table add together all values in column 2 (QtyComp - an expression column of qtyorder * totalqty basically), where they have the same ItemNo (column 1).
So, we currently get the below:
ItemNo QtyCom
7441 3
7441 1
7441 5
What we want is it to return this:
ItemNo QtyCom
7441 9
Our code is below; I've bolded the part that we need it to sum the results of:
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT ItemSpecs_2.itemno,
workorderdetails.qtycomplete *
ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot AS QtyComp
FROM dbo.workorderdetails AS WorkOrderDetails
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecfullstruc AS ItemSpecFullStruc_2
ON ItemSpecFullStruc_2.rootitemspecid =
workorderdetails.itemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecs AS ItemSpecs_2
ON ItemSpecs_2.itemspecid = ItemSpecFullStruc_2.childitemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.workorder AS WorkOrder_1
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid = workorderdetails.workorderid
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tobescheduled_completed
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid =
dbo.tobescheduled_completed.workorderid
WHERE ( workorderdetails.completed = 1 )
AND ( workorderdetails.compdate > Getdate() - 42 )
GROUP BY ItemSpecs_2.itemno,
workorderdetails.qtyordered,
ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot,
workorderdetails.[lineno],
workorderdetails.qtycomplete,
workorderdetails.compdate,
workorderdetails.qtycomplete * ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot
We would really appreciate some ideas!
Thanks,
Trish
Try this
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT ItemSpecs_2.itemno,
sum(workorderdetails.qtycomplete *
ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot) AS QtyComp
FROM dbo.workorderdetails AS WorkOrderDetails
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecfullstruc AS ItemSpecFullStruc_2
ON ItemSpecFullStruc_2.rootitemspecid =
workorderdetails.itemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecs AS ItemSpecs_2
ON ItemSpecs_2.itemspecid = ItemSpecFullStruc_2.childitemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.workorder AS WorkOrder_1
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid = workorderdetails.workorderid
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tobescheduled_completed
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid =
dbo.tobescheduled_completed.workorderid
WHERE ( workorderdetails.completed = 1 )
AND ( workorderdetails.compdate > Getdate() - 42 )
GROUP BY ItemSpecs_2.itemno,
workorderdetails.qtyordered,
ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot,
workorderdetails.[lineno],
workorderdetails.qtycomplete,
workorderdetails.compdate
Once you will use top for select statement, you need to use order by. you can try the following query.
SELECT TOP(100) PERCENT A.itemno,SUM(QtyComp) FROM
(SELECT ItemSpecs_2.itemno,
(workorderdetails.qtycomplete *
ItemSpecFullStruc_2.totalqtyperroot) AS QtyComp
FROM dbo.workorderdetails AS WorkOrderDetails
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecfullstruc AS ItemSpecFullStruc_2
ON ItemSpecFullStruc_2.rootitemspecid =
workorderdetails.itemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.itemspecs AS ItemSpecs_2
ON ItemSpecs_2.itemspecid = ItemSpecFullStruc_2.childitemspecid
INNER JOIN dbo.workorder AS WorkOrder_1
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid = workorderdetails.workorderid
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.tobescheduled_completed
ON WorkOrder_1.workorderid =
dbo.tobescheduled_completed.workorderid
WHERE ( workorderdetails.completed = 1 )
AND ( workorderdetails.compdate > Getdate() - 42 ) ) A
GROUP BY A.itemno
ORDER BY A.itemno
Thanks

Sum record data into one

I have this query which returns qty in each of my branch. now the branch has two WH_subType as you see in the attached diagram i have attached. I want to sum the 2 subtype and show its available qty. how can i do it.
my select query is like this
SELECT
dbo.WarehouseType.name AS Section,
dbo.WarehouseSubType.name AS WH_Type,
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.name AS WH_SubType,
dbo.Branch.name AS Branch,
(dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.actualQuantity - dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.reservedQuantity) AS AvailQty,
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId AS Tafsil,
dbo.Tafsil.description AS Product_Name
FROM
dbo.WarehouseSubType
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseType
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType.warehouseTypeId = dbo.WarehouseType.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseSubType1
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType.id = dbo.WarehouseSubType1.warehouseSubTypeId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Warehouse
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.id = dbo.Warehouse.warehouseSubType1Id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Branch
ON
(
dbo.Warehouse.branchId = dbo.Branch.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity
ON
(
dbo.Warehouse.id = dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.warehouseId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.TafsilLink
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId = dbo.TafsilLink.sourceId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Tafsil
ON
(
dbo.TafsilLink.targetId = dbo.Tafsil.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.FinishProduct
ON
(
dbo.Tafsil.id = dbo.FinishProduct.tafsilId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Supplier
ON
(
dbo.FinishProduct.supplierId = dbo.Supplier.tafsilId)
WHERE
WarehouseSubType1.warehouseSubTypeId IN (1,4)
group by dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId
Have you tried a group by
SELECT SubType, SUM(qty) AS QtySum
GROUP BY SubType
Every grouped by column should be in your select. Note: for every column you group by it further sub divides the data
Update based on OP comment:
If you want other columns you need to do something like
SELECT s.WH_SubType,s.AvailQty, t.other_cols
from
(SELECT
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.name AS WH_SubType,
sum(dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.actualQuantity - dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.reservedQuantity) AS AvailQty
FROM
table
GROUP BY
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.name) s
left join table t on t.dbo.WarehouseSubType1.name = s.WH_SubType;
For reference see this question: How do I use "group by" with three columns of data?
UPDATE 2:
SELECT
dbo.WarehouseType.name AS Section,
dbo.WarehouseSubType.name AS WH_Type,
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.name AS WH_SubType,
dbo.Branch.name AS Branch,
SumTable.AvailQty,
SumTable.Tafsil,
dbo.Tafsil.description AS Product_Name
FROM
dbo.WarehouseSubType
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseType
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType.warehouseTypeId = dbo.WarehouseType.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseSubType1
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType.id = dbo.WarehouseSubType1.warehouseSubTypeId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Warehouse
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseSubType1.id = dbo.Warehouse.warehouseSubType1Id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Branch
ON
(
dbo.Warehouse.branchId = dbo.Branch.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity
ON
(
dbo.Warehouse.id = dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.warehouseId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.TafsilLink
ON
(
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId = dbo.TafsilLink.sourceId)
INNER JOIN
dbo.Tafsil
ON
(
dbo.TafsilLink.targetId = dbo.Tafsil.id)
INNER JOIN
dbo.FinishProduct
ON
(
dbo.Tafsil.id = dbo.FinishProduct.tafsilId)
LEFT JOIN (SELECT
sum(dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.actualQuantity - dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.reservedQuantity) AS AvailQty,
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId AS Tafsil
FROM
dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity
group by dbo.WarehouseProductQuantity.tafsilId) SumTable on dbo.Tafsil.id = SumTable.Tafsil
WHERE
WarehouseSubType1.warehouseSubTypeId IN (1,4)
You need to do something like
SELECT SUM(AvailQty), ... FROM ... WHERE ... GROUP BY WH_SubType

http://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_groupby.asp

use field in sql join where clause

I am trying to write a crystal report using a sql statement because it runs much much faster. But I am having trouble with some of the linkings. I need to use the result of a link for criteria in subsequent links.
Ok, here is a sample of what my statement looks like:
(The lines marked with ** are the lines in question)
SELECT
Part.PartNum,
Cust.CustNum,
Cust.CustID,
YTD.Qty
FROM
(
SELECT
Pub.Part.PartNum,
Pub.Part.UserChar1 AS CustID
FROM
Pub.Part
) AS Part
LEFT OUTER JOIN (
SELECT
Pub.Customer.CustID,
Pub.Customer.CustNum,
Pub.Customer.Name
FROM
Pub.Customer
WHERE
Pub.Customer.CustID = '1038'
) AS Cust
ON Part.CustID = Cust.CustID
LEFT OUTER JOIN (
SELECT
Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum,
Sum(Pub.OrderDtl.OrderQty) AS Qty
FROM
Pub.OrderHed JOIN Pub.OrderDtl ON
Pub.OrderHed.OrderNum = Pub.OrderDtl.OrderNum
WHERE
**Pub.OrderHed.CustNum = Cust.CustNum AND**
**Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum = Part.PartNum AND**
YEAR(Pub.OrderHed.OrderDate)=YEAR(CURDATE())
GROUP BY
Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum
) AS YTD ON Part.PartNum = YTD.PartNum
Now, I get an error that says:
Part.PartNum cannot be found or is not specified for the query.
I get the same error for Cust.CustNum. Will you help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Thanks!
The problem is that you are using one of the aliases, inside of a sub-query which you cannot do. You will have to do something similar to this:
SELECT Part.PartNum,
Cust.CustNum,
Cust.CustID,
YTD.Qty
FROM
(
SELECT Pub.Part.PartNum,
Pub.Part.UserChar1 AS CustID
FROM Pub.Part
) AS Part
LEFT OUTER JOIN
(
SELECT Pub.Customer.CustID,
Pub.Customer.CustNum,
Pub.Customer.Name
FROM Pub.Customer
WHERE Pub.Customer.CustID = '1038'
) AS Cust
ON Part.CustID = Cust.CustID
LEFT OUTER JOIN
(
SELECT Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum,
Sum(Pub.OrderDtl.OrderQty) AS Qty,
Pub.OrderHed.CustNum
FROM Pub.OrderHed
JOIN Pub.OrderDtl
ON Pub.OrderHed.OrderNum = Pub.OrderDtl.OrderNum
WHERE YEAR(Pub.OrderHed.OrderDate)=YEAR(CURDATE())
GROUP BY Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum, Pub.OrderHed.CustNum
) AS YTD
ON Part.PartNum = YTD.PartNum
AND Cust.CustNum = YTD.CustNum
Looking at your query more, you can actually get rid of two of the subqueries:
SELECT Part.PartNum,
Cust.CustNum,
Cust.CustID,
YTD.Qty
FROM Pub.Part Part
LEFT OUTER JOIN Pub.Customer Cust
ON Part.CustID = Cust.CustID
AND Cust.CustID = '1038'
LEFT OUTER JOIN
(
SELECT d.PartNum,
Sum(d.OrderQty) AS Qty,
h.CustNum
FROM Pub.OrderHed h
JOIN Pub.OrderDtl d
ON h.OrderNum = d.OrderNum
WHERE YEAR(h.OrderDate)=YEAR(CURDATE())
GROUP BY d.PartNum
) AS YTD
ON Part.PartNum = YTD.PartNum
AND Cust.CustNum = YTD.CustNum
This is because you can't access a parent sub-query (cust, part) within another sub-query (YTD)
However, the solution is easy in your case, filter in the ON clause instead:
SELECT
Part.PartNum,
Cust.CustNum,
Cust.CustID,
YTD.Qty
FROM
(
SELECT
Pub.Part.PartNum,
Pub.Part.UserChar1 AS CustID
FROM
Pub.Part
) AS Part
LEFT OUTER JOIN (
SELECT
Pub.Customer.CustID,
Pub.Customer.CustNum,
Pub.Customer.Name
FROM
Pub.Customer
WHERE
Pub.Customer.CustID = '1038'
) AS Cust
ON Part.CustID = Cust.CustID
LEFT OUTER JOIN (
SELECT
Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum,
Sum(Pub.OrderDtl.OrderQty) AS Qty,
Pub.OrderHed.CustNum
FROM
Pub.OrderHed JOIN Pub.OrderDtl ON
Pub.OrderHed.OrderNum = Pub.OrderDtl.OrderNum
WHERE
YEAR(Pub.OrderHed.OrderDate)=YEAR(CURDATE())
GROUP BY
Pub.OrderDtl.PartNum
) AS YTD ON Part.PartNum = YTD.PartNum AND Cust.CustNum = YTD.CustNum
