Running ktor with a custom Configuration file via Gradle - kotlin

I have a simple Ktor application using application.conf files. The documentation mentions that I can specify a custom configuration file to use as such :
Now, I would like to do exactly the same, except that I start my application using ./gradlew run.
Using ./gradlew run -config=... won't even run, while using ./gradlew run -Dconfig=... seems to gloriously ignore the input I give it.
What is the proper way to provide a custom configuration time when starting my Ktor server with gradle?

Supplement.
If you use idea to run a program, you can add the -config parameter to Program arguments.
e.g.

Ok, answering my own question after further research. The answer in this case is to run gradle as such :
$./gradlew run --args="-config=src/main/resources/application.test.conf
As per [the gradle documentation](https://docs.gradle.org/current/userguide/application_plugin.html#:~:text=Since%20Gradle%204.9%2C%20the%20command,setArgsString(java.).

Buildsteps after each other

How do I run several buildsteps after each other in IntelliJ? I think I want a mini CI/CD build system inside the editor.
For example, the project I work on now is a Spring boot and javascript web site. I need to build it with maven with mvn clean package -Pdockerimage. This copies files for building the Docker image to target/dockerimgbuild.
Then I want to build the docker image using docker build -t scheduling-ui-dev . and after that run it with docker compose docker-compose up --build from src/main/resources/docker-compose.
I have built one run configuration for each of these steps but how do I run them after each other? I have found that you can have before launch but the system is clunky and complains if target/dockerimgbuild doesn't exists even before it have run the maven step which creates it. Latest problem I stumbled on was that a file prevented maven from removing target/dockerimgbuild and all run steps was automatically removed from the run configurations.
There is a run configuration called compound but that runs everything in parallell and you can not specify order which is a problem.
I wonder if it is feasible to start TeamCity in a container, do anyone have a clue about that (is teamcity easy to configure, how to make it launch a docker-compose container on my host machine etc)?
My solution right now is to have several terminals (if this gets more permanent I will replace it with a script) where I just press up and enter to execute the steps manually. Seems stupid as I guess maven itself can do all of this...but I don't know how or how much work it is.
There is a compound Run/Debug configuration: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/run-debug-configuration-compound-run-configuration.html
Also, there is a multi-run plugin: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7248-multirun

Gradle Script parameters(such as -Penv) with Intellij

Background:
I've been using Eclipse for a while and am trying out Intellij now.
I checked out my project from Git (via Intellij) and recognized it as a gradle project. Its created the WAR(& the exploded WAR) all of which are fine.
Question:
When I was using Eclipse, I used the command:
gradlew -Penv=Development :my_webapp:assemble
This used to do a few things including creating a environment.properties file that my dev specific env could use (for selecting database instances etc) based off of -Penv=Development...I'd like the Intellij gradle build to do the same... What's a way to configure Intellij's gradle process to do these custom things or provide same features as provided by this specific command line tool (Note - the code for this is already written in build.gradle file)...
I looked at some of Intellij's docs, but could not find an answer to this.
EDIT:
I've found the solution, for anyone interested - read on...
Seeking guidance from #Stanislav, I was able to add the property as follows:
In your server's run configuration (Run/Debug Configuration -->Your server's config(Jetty etc), there is a section called Before launch, which should have Make/Build Gradle already included
Hit the + sign -->Run Gradle Task --> Select your gradle project (i.e. the web app) --> Select the task (most likely loadEnvironmentConfiguration) --> set the script parameters such as -Penv=Development, hit OK
Move this to before the Build Gradle function (by using the up arrow - to the right of + sign you hit in step 2)
It seems, that you need to create your specific run or debug configuration. You can read about it in official IntelliJ Idea help. All you need, is to modify your configuration for the task you need, by providing the argument -Penv=Development, since it is running with gradle.
You may also need to define Gradle instance, which will be used via settings, if the defaul wrapper wont work for you. You can find almost all you need in the the official help.

IntelliJ with cucumber (java) and step definition location

Ok, so I'm working on a project using IntelliJ and trying to take advantage of its cucumber functionality. I've not worked with the java flavour of cucumber, but IntelliJ seems to want the step definition files in a specific location, relative to the feature files.
I found this: how to define step definitions location for cucumber in intelliJ 12 and other sources that pointed me to been able to add the "glue" property of my run configurations which tells cuke which package to find the step file. So I am at a point where I can run my tests via IDEA. BUT I need to set this every time I run a new test, as Ctrl+Alt+F10 or right click+run test will not start the test with this flag. Also, the ide support is screwed as IDEA doesn't know where the steps are, it doesn't auto complte or Ctrl+Click navigate to steps.
Is there a way to the the IDEA project to always look for steps in a given package both when running the tests and for its auto complete?
Creating self answer for others who might have this problem. My project did not have the steps marked as test source root, and although I DID do this, it was not until I closed and reopened my project that they were picked up. So a simple restart was my answer.
You can set the glue location globally by opening "Edit Configurations -> Defaults -> Cucumber Java -> Glue" and add the package names.
(IntelliJ 12.1.4)
Go File->Settings--> plugins
Install Cucumber for Java plugin
Then you can manage cucumber plugin as shown below
This should redirect you to step definition when you click your test.
Hope this helps
IntelliJ supports a plugin for Cucumber-Java/Groovy. Installing this plugin will enable the navigation from Steps mentioned in the feature file to the Step Definitions.
And after creating the Step Definition, navigation is easily possible
I go in EditConfiguration, Glue section and i put the path from the package above and the package where is your class for steps, ex:
CucumberFramework.stepsDefinitions
It is really nonsense :) but in in my case when IDEA refused to add steps definition automatically due to some plugins installed, e.g. Cucumber for Scala and suggested deleting them that i cant since i need them in other project. So, long story short, to add (Create step definition) you need to create Class in 'glue' dir and some fake Cucumber implementation, build one more time and it resolved my issue.
Background:
When I use IDEA 2018.2
And Java 8
And Cucumber info.cukes:cucumber-java:1.2.4
#When("^I created a Class and put there fake step implementation$")
#And("^I run gradle build one more time :)$")
#Then("^This Class will be able for me from the feature file by ALT+ENTER as usual$")
#And("^It resolved my issue when I was not able to automatically generate step definition$")

Setting build configuration to staging

Simple question. How do I set the build configuration to something other than Debug?
Setting /P:Configuration=Staging in the Command line parameters box, leads to this error:
TeamCity says to use "Build Parameters" instead of "/property:" in an MSBuild step. What does that mean?
So how is it done? I need to build MSDeploy packages for all configurations, I can get the packages to build but everything is Debug.
The way you're doing it is fine -- although perhaps use a lowercase /p:. Our team does it this way too. TeamCity isn't throwing an error, it's just trying to provide some helpful information.
JetBrains provides some documentation for its preferred method at the bottom of the page under Using System Properties in Build Scripts.

Running rsvars.bat before Teamcity build starts

I have a C++ Builder 2010 project that's being built using TeamCity. I noticed some strange errors and after reading up on them I understand that I have to set a few variables located in rsvars.bat. I would like the build script to execute the bat file to set up the environment before performing the actual build. How do I best accomplish this?
Can I just use a <exec /> command at the very beginning of the file or is there a better way?
One way would be to run wrap the build in a script that calls rsvars.bat AND build commands. That would make the variables survive during the execution of the build.
But since I use TeamCity I like it to be a real msbuild step and not msbuild wrapped in something else. I was thinking of having the buildscript setting the variables from rsvars.bat into Machine or User at the start of the build and then remove them at the end, not nice though.
I finally just went with just adding the configurations to the Build Agents environment configuration in TeamCity and keeping installation paths identical between agents.
You can create a new build step and then specify a custom build step order so a new build step will be the first one.
See Configuring Build Steps
Add them as Build Parameters -> Environment Variables (in the build configuration), straight forward and generally works. The build parameter/environment variables will be setup automatically as environment variables on the build agent running the job.
You can then make a template of the build and reuse it.
Assumes that the 'paths' are the same on all build agents, which is generally the case. If not your suggestion of doing it by build agent is the way to go.
