Update date from other table - sql

I have a table called Products_V which has the following columns.
ProductNumber
Source
date
I want to update date of the table called Product_feed which has the following columns.
ProductNumber
source
date
I want to update the date of table Product_feed by taking the date from table Product_V I want to join the tables using columns ProductNumber and Source but the problem is values of source is different in both the tables for same ProductNumber.
Like in Table Product_V I have value of Source as SOD
and in Table Product_feed I have value of Source as 'MBUS_MOD' for the same ProductNumber.
The update statement I used:
set T1.date =T2.date
from Product_feed T1
join (
select
date,
ProductNumber,
Source = IIF('MBUS_MOD' ,'SOD' ,NULL)
from Product_V
) T2
on T1.Source = T2.Source
and T1.ProductNumber = T2.ProductNumber

If you have unique ProductNumber and if it's not depending on Source (multiple source value for same ProductNumber and in same table) then you don't have to add Source in join statement and below query will work for your scenario
update
Product_feed
set
date = Products_V.date
from
Products_V
where
Product_feed.ProductNumber = Products_V.ProductNumber;

First of all, you must avoid special words used for the SQL like 'date','Source' etc.
here is a sample code for your Problem, hope it will help.

Select data from one table base on selection from another table in SQL

I have these 3 table
First contain the item with price on given dates
2nd is the table of items
3rd is the table of dates in which we want to show the price of 2nd table item on every date
if duration is not available on first table it should be 0
with myTable ( item,startdate,enddate,price) as
(
select 'AAAA' ,'16-3-2020','19-3-2020','50' union all
select 'AAAA' ,'16-4-2020','19-4-2020','70' union all
select 'BBB' ,'16-3-2020','19-3-2020','20' union all
select 'BBB' ,'16-4-2020','19-4-2020','90' union all
select 'CCC' ,'16-3-2020','29-3-2020','45' union all
select 'CCC' ,'16-4-2020','19-4-2020','120'
)
select item,startdate,enddate,price from myTable
GO
with itemTable ( item) as
(
select 'AAAA' union all
select 'BBB' union all
select 'CCC'
)
select item from itemTable
GO
with DateTable ( dateItem) as
(
select '16-3-2020' union all
select '19-4-2020' union all
select '20-3-2020'
)
select dateItem from DateTable
GO
and my desire result should be like this (above is dynamic data)
with mydesireTable (item, [16-3-2020],[19-4-2020],[20-3-2020]) as
(
select 'AAAA' ,'50','70','0' union all ---0 as its not on above data in duration
select 'BBB' ,'20','90','0' union all
select 'CCC' ,'45','120','45'
)
select item, [16-3-2020],[19-4-2020],[20-3-2020] from mydesireTable
I am not sure what to search for :) as i want to write query for it which return my desire table as data ( or as in temporary table )
One of many ways to do this. This is a static crosstab. You need to list out all the columns explicitly (twice)
If your columns are dynamic, you need to use a dynamic crosstab. You should also consider doing this in your "presentation" layer, i.e. excel or whatever you are handing this over in.
You should consider what you want when something in mytable appears against a bucket twice (this solution will add the prices)
with myTable ( item,startdate,enddate,price) as
(
select 'AAAA' ,CAST('2020-03-16' AS DATE),CAST('2020-03-19' AS DATE),50 union all
select 'AAAA' ,'2020-04-16','2020-04-19',70 union all
select 'BBB' ,'2020-03-16','2020-03-19',20 union all
select 'BBB' ,'2020-04-16','2020-04-19',90 union all
select 'CCC' ,'2020-03-16','2020-03-29',45 union all
select 'CCC' ,'2020-04-16','2020-04-19',120

select 'BBB' union all

SQL Return default values if no rows returned

I've got a SQL script which returns a result set, the requirement is to return a default result set with default values if the below script does not yield any results. It should have the same column names as the below script
-- Return final results
SELECT
p.worked [AccountsWorked],
p.rcmade [RPC's],
p.obtained [PTPCount],
p.amount [PTPValue],
[PreviousDayPTPValue]
FROM
#tab_performance p JOIN
dbo.user usr ON
(p.usr_code = usr.usr_code) JOIN
dbo.team tme ON
(tme.tme_id = usr.tme_id)
AND p.usr_code = #usr_code
I need to return a default result set if no rows are returned. So all the columns should be returned with NULL's or any default value.
I have tried conditional select statements without any luck, I have also tried the ##ROWCOUNT
You can add a union all select to your existing query with default values like this:
<your existing query>
union all
select null accounts_worked, null right_contacts_made, null ppts_obtained .....
where not exists(
select *
from #tab_performance p JOIN
dbo.TR_USR_User usr ON
(p.usr_code = usr.usr_code) JOIN
dbo.TR_TME_Team tme ON
(tme.tme_id = usr.tme_id)
AND p.usr_code = #usr_code
)
The where clause could be further simplified, if your inner joins don't filter out any rows from #tab_performance:
<your existing query>
union all
select null accounts_worked, null right_contacts_made, null ppts_obtained .....
where not exists(
select *
from #tab_performance
where usr_code = #usr_code
)
I would do it with WITH and UNION ALL
Drop table if exists #test
create table #test (
Column1 int null,
Column2 varchar(50) null
);
--INSERT INTO [#test] (Column1,Column2)
--VALUES
-- (1, 'test'),
-- (2,'test2'),
-- (3,'test3');
WITH qry AS (
select Column1, Column2 from #test
)
select * from qry
UNION ALL
select NULL as Colum1, null as Column2 where (select COUNT(*) from qry) = 0

Join two tables multiple times on same column with a lookup table in between

This has probably been answered but, its hard to search for this question, as you can see in my confusing title.
Anyhow, I hope this example will help:
The tricky part is the one to many relationship in the parameter lookup table.
Ive tried using multiple joins and aliases resulting in a hugh number of rows since Im getting every 'amount' for every 'price'.
SELECT paraval.month, paraval.value as amount, paraval2.value as price, trade.position
FROM trade
INNER JOIN parameter para on trade.tID=para.tID and para.name = 'amount'
INNER JOIN parametervalues paraval on para.pID=paraval.pID
INNER JOIN parameter para2 on trade.tID=para2.tID and para2.name = 'price'
INNER JOIN parametervalues paraval2 on para2.pID=paraval2.pID
WHERE trade.type = 'cert'
Guessing I need sub-queries, but not sure where to place them.
EDIT add some SQL code structure :
CREATE TABLE #Trade
(
tID int PRIMARY KEY,
type varchar(50),
position int
);
CREATE TABLE #Parameter
(
pID int PRIMARY KEY,
tID int,
name varchar(50)
);
CREATE TABLE #ParameterValue
(
pID int,
smonth varchar(50),
value varchar(50));
INSERT INTO #Trade
SELECT 1, 'stock', 1
UNION
SELECT 2, 'stock', 2
UNION
SELECT 3, 'cert', 3
INSERT INTO #Parameter
SELECT 1,1,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 2,1,'price'
UNION
SELECT 3,2,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 4,2,'price'
UNION
SELECT 5,3,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 6,3,'price'
INSERT INTO #ParameterValue
SELECT 1,1,'5'
UNION
SELECT 2,1,'500'
UNION
SELECT 3,1,'15'
UNION
SELECT 4,1,'300'
UNION
SELECT 5,1,'5'
UNION
SELECT 5,2,'10'
UNION
SELECT 5,3,'5'
UNION
SELECT 6,1,'100'
UNION
SELECT 6,2,'200'
UNION
SELECT 6,3,'300'
-- SELECT * FROM #Trade
-- SELECT * FROM #Parameter
-- SELECT * FROM #ParameterValue
DROP TABLE #Trade
DROP TABLE #Parameter
DROP TABLE #ParameterValue
I think the best way for build your excepted output and relevant schema you have to use pivot with dynamic sql because in next day it possible to have some new values it’s the principal of your structure.
But i think this query can be respond :
SELECT paraval.month, (case when para. name = 'amount' then max(paraval.value) else null end)as amount, (case when para. name = 'price' then max(paraval.value) else null end) as price, max(trade.position) as position
FROM trade
INNER JOIN parameter para on trade.tID=para.tID
INNER JOIN parametervalues paraval on para.pID=paraval.pID
WHERE trade.type = 'cert'
Group by paraval.month
EDIT correction off previous query :
CREATE TABLE #Trade
(
tID int PRIMARY KEY,
type varchar(50),
position int
);
CREATE TABLE #Parameter
(
pID int PRIMARY KEY,
tID int,
name varchar(50)
);
CREATE TABLE #ParameterValue
(
pID int,
smonth varchar(50),
value varchar(50));
INSERT INTO #Trade
SELECT 1, 'stock', 1
UNION
SELECT 2, 'stock', 2
UNION
SELECT 3, 'cert', 3
INSERT INTO #Parameter
SELECT 1,1,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 2,1,'price'
UNION
SELECT 3,2,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 4,2,'price'
UNION
SELECT 5,3,'amount'
UNION
SELECT 6,3,'price'
INSERT INTO #ParameterValue
SELECT 1,1,'5'
UNION
SELECT 2,1,'500'
UNION
SELECT 3,1,'15'
UNION
SELECT 4,1,'300'
UNION
SELECT 5,1,'5'
UNION
SELECT 5,2,'10'
UNION
SELECT 5,3,'5'
UNION
SELECT 6,1,'100'
UNION
SELECT 6,2,'200'
UNION
SELECT 6,3,'300'
/***/
-- Perform select
/***/
SELECT t.tID, paraval.smonth, MAX(case when para.name = 'amount' then paraval.value else null end)as amount, MAX(case when para.name = 'price' then paraval.value else null end) as price, max(T.position) as position
FROM #Trade T
INNER JOIN #Parameter para on T.tID=para.tID
INNER JOIN #ParameterValue paraval on para.pID=paraval.pID

Union temporary tables to a final temporary table

I have like 10 diff temporary tables created in SQL server, what I am looking to do is union them all to a final temporary table holding them all on one table. All the tables have only one row and look pretty much exactly like the two temp tables below.
Here is what I have so far this is an example of just two of the temp tables as their all exactly like this one then #final is the table I want to union the all to:
create table #lo
(
mnbr bigint
)
insert into #login (mnbr)
select distinct (_ID)
FROM [KDB].[am_LOGS].[dbo].[_LOG]
WHERE time >= '2012-7-26 9:00:00
Select count(*) as countreject
from #lo
create table #pffblo
(
mber_br
)
insert into #pffblo (mber_br)
select distinct (mber_br)
from individ ip with (nolock)
join memb mp with (nolock)
on( ip.i_id=mp.i_id and mp.p_type=101)
where ip.times >= '2012-9-26 11:00:00.000'
select count(*) as countaccept
create table #final
(
countreject bigint
, Countacceptbigint
.....
)
insert into #final (Countreject, Countaccept....more rows here...)
select Countreject, Countaccept, ...more rows selected from temp tables.
from #final
union
(select * from #lo)
union
(select * from #pffblo)
select *
from #final
drop table #lo
drop table #pffblo
drop table #final
if this the form to union the rows form those temp tables to this final one. Then is this correct way to show all those rows that were thus unioned. When I do this union I get message number of columns in union need to match number of columns selected in union
I think you're using a union the wrong way. A union is used when you have to datasets that are the same structure and you want to put them into one dataset.
e.g.:
CREATE TABLE #Table1
(
col1 BIGINT
)
CREATE TABLE #Table2
(
col1 BIGINT
)
--populate the temporary tables
CREATE TABLE #Final
(
col1 BIGINT
)
INSERT INTO #Final (col1)
SELECT *
FROM #Table1
UNION
SELECT *
FROM #Table2
drop table #table1
drop table #table2
drop table #Final
I think what you're trying to do is get 1 data set with the count of all your tables in it. Union won't do this.
The easiest way (although not very performant) would be to do select statements like the following:
CREATE TABLE #Table1
(
col1 BIGINT
)
CREATE TABLE #Table2
(
col1 BIGINT
)
--populate the temporary tables
CREATE TABLE #Final
(
col1 BIGINT,
col2 BIGINT
)
INSERT INTO #Final (col1, col2)
select (SELECT Count(*) FROM #Table1) as a, (SELECT Count(*) FROM #Table2) as b
select * From #Final
drop table #table1
drop table #table2
drop table #Final
It appears that you want to take the values from each of temp tables and then place then into a single row of data. This is basically a PIVOT, you can use something like this:
create table #final
(
countreject bigint
, Countaccept bigint
.....
)
insert into #final (Countreject, Countaccept....more rows here...)
select
from
(
select count(*) value, 'Countreject' col -- your UNION ALL's here
from #lo
union all
select count(*) value, 'countaccept' col
from #pffblo
) x
pivot
(
max(value)
for col in ([Countreject], [countaccept])
) p
Explanation:
You will create a subquery similar to this that will contain the COUNT for each of your individual temp table. There are two columns in the subquery, one column contains the count(*) from the table and the other column is the name of the alias:
select count(*) value, 'Countreject' col
from #lo
union all
select count(*) value, 'countaccept' col
from #pffblo
You then PIVOT these values to insert into your final temp table.
If you do not want to use PIVOT, then you can use a CASE statement with an aggregate function:
insert into #final (Countreject, Countaccept....more rows here...)
select max(case when col = 'Countreject' then value end) Countreject,
max(case when col = 'countaccept' then value end) countaccept
from
(
select count(*) value, 'Countreject' col -- your UNION ALL's here
from #lo
union all
select count(*) value, 'countaccept' col
from #pffblo
) x
Or you might be able to JOIN all of the temp tables similar to this, where you create a row_number() for the one record in the table and then you join the tables with the row_number():
insert into #final (Countreject, Countaccept....more rows here...)
select isnull(lo.Countreject, 0) Countreject,
isnull(pffblo.Countaccept, 0) Countaccept
from
(
select count(*) Countreject,
row_number() over(order by (SELECT 0)) rn
from #lo
) lo
left join
(
select count(*) Countaccept,
row_number() over(order by (SELECT 0)) rn
from #pffblo
) pffblo
on lo.rn = pffblo.rn
SELECT *
INTO #1
FROM TABLE2
UNION
SELECT *
FROM TABLE3
UNION
SELECT *
FROM TABLE4
If you would like to get count for each temporary table in the resulting table, you will need just to calculate it for each column in subquery:
INSERT INTO result (col1, col2,...
SELECT
(SELECT COUNT() FROM tbl1) col1
,(SELECT COUNT() FROM tbl2) col2
..

Plz do help me
The error code is very very very clear.
The relevant portion is ...when a column list is used....
You need to specify your column list in the INSERT statement.
INSERT INTO #tmpSearchResults
(i1,
property_id,
property_number,
auction_date_reason)
SELECT
p.property_id, p.property_number, p.auction_date_reason
FROM...
First, there is a comma too much in the SELECT part of your second statement:
insert into #tmpSearchResults1
select
property_id ,
property_number,
auction_date_reason , <-- THIS ONE!!
from #tmpSearchResults
The last column of a SELECT statement must be without a comma.
So this would be correct:
insert into #tmpSearchResults1
select
property_id ,
property_number,
auction_date_reason
from #tmpSearchResults
Second, did you read this part of the error message?
An explicit value [...] can only be specified when a column list is used
The "column list" part means that you have to specify the columns in the INSERT part:
insert into #tmpSearchResults1
(property_id, property_number, auction_date_reason)
select
property_id ,
property_number,
auction_date_reason
from #tmpSearchResults
You can get away with not specifying the columns when the number of columns in the SELECT statement is the same as in the table in which they should be inserted (and if the data types match).
If one of these conditions is not met, you need to specify the columns because otherwise SQL Server doesn't know which value to insert into which column.
