I'm trying to name my class Util inside the src/test directory. However, another class with this same name already exists inside src/main, and IntelliJ is blocking me from doing this renaming. Funny thing is that the class inside the test folder was already named Util and that was fine before, but today IntelliJ started complaining about it and was no longer finding my methods inside that class, looking for them inside the Util class inside src/main instead.
I tried deleting the idea folder and reloading the project, but the same error is still there and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Thank you.

I have a grails domain class called "Command.groovy", which isn't being picked up by intellij as a domain class, for any and all purposes (such as highlighting that class or importing it in files, it says it's not found).
However, my code still compiles and works.
I tried looking online about this issue but haven't found anything about this.
Thanks #CrazyCoder, I found the answer where you mentioned.
The problem was the file was mapped to auto detect file type by content for some reason. (Found in settings->file types->Auto-detect file by content)
I have implemented #BindingAdapters in many projects. Recently created a new project in Android Studio Dolphin. added plugin kotlin-kapt and other required dependencies. Not able to figure out what is going wrong. when i use the binding adapter inside xml as attribute. there is an compilation error.
The Problem was package line. when we generate a kotlin class file or move a file from different project the package line if not present the generated classes won't be able to import them as they don't have the path from which they can be imported. i added the package line which is the 1st line in every class or file and issue was solved. silly one but took 2 days
I have a maven project in IntelliJ IDE. I have created a package with name event.handlers. After which I created multiple classes inside this package.
There are no classes inside event everything is inside event.handlers.
Now I want to create a java class inside package event.
Is there any way from the IDE I can do that?
Currently, I am manually creating the java file inside the event folder in my code repository.
In the left Project structure pane, there is Settings button, in that please Uncheck, Compact Empty Middle Packages.
The settings will be like
.
Now you will have a tree structure, where you can right-click or (ctrl + enter/ alt + insert) on the package and create the file.
For example,
Try creating a Java Class at src folder named event.NewClass. This will create a NewClass.java inside src/event.
You can create folder with the dot symbol . at creating a Java Class or a Package, or Kotlin File/Class when Type is not File. For example create a Package with name com.company.example at src folder will automatically generate the folders recursively, src/com/company/example, create a Java Class with name com.company.example.AClass will automatically generate a file AClass.java inside the automatically generated folder tree src/com/company/example.
It might be easier to just create the class inside package AB and Refactor > Move to place it inside of A.
It seems that all other answers here are workarounds anyway, so if it's just a one-off, this might be the easiest option.
However, in my case, after doing this I had to "Invalidate Caches and Restart" before IDEA updated the UI properly.
I have created a listener class in my project. Now what I have read in web there are two methods to add a listener either to your class or to testng file.
Please check in the folder structure. For now, I m using it like this in my java class but it is giving me error as in image attached:
#Listeners({Test.tes.Utils.ListenerUse.class})
From your screenshots, I understand that your test class HomeTestCases.java resides in the package Test.test.MyHomepageTestCases in src/test/java
You are trying to refer to the listener ListenerToUse.java that resides in the package Test.tes.Utilsin src/main/java.
When you use #Listeners(Test.tes.MyHomepageTestCases.MyHomepageTestCases.ListenerToUse.class)
Here you are basically telling Java to look for the listener class ListenerToUse inside Test.tes.MyHomepageTestCases.MyHomepageTestCases (as a nested class), but that's not the case because ListenerToUse is NOT a embedded class inside MyHomepageTestCases.java.
To fix the problem please do the following:
Change: #Listeners(Test.tes.MyHomepageTestCases.MyHomepageTestCases.ListenerToUse.class)
To: #Listeners(Test.tes.Utils.ListenerToUse.class)
I think the issue is you're mixing the package of your Listener, and the package of the class where you want to add it.
Your code now:
#Listeners(Test.tes.MyHomePageTestCases.MyHomePageTestCases.ListenerUse.class)
Correct package:
#Listeners(Test.tes.Utils.ListenerUse.class)
However, you've named your package "Test", which is (besides breaking Java naming conventions -> https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/package/namingpkgs.html) clashing with the TestNG Test class. On your screenshot, I can see that "Test" is grayed out. If you hover with your mouse over it, you'll probably see Eclipse has resolved it as "org.testng.annotations.Test". So you have two options:
Name your packages properly and try again
Expand the imports sections of your HomeTestCases class; manually add:
import Test.tes.Utils.ListenerUse;
and delete the following:
import org.testng.annotations.Test;
In VS2008, I am adding new classes to a web project.
When I right-click on App-Code -> Add -> New Item -> Class ...
The build action for the newly created item is set to content instead of compile. This seems like it would be a problem with the template. I've found several others through google who have run into this issue, but nobody seemed to have found a more permanent solution, other than "change it from content to compile after creation."
My question: Does anyone know of a fix for this, official or otherwise?
App_Code is a special folder meant for folder based projects.
This is just a hunch, but it might be that you have a project file based project, instead of a simple folder based one.
