I require people to enter data into columns A to AI. For each row (which represents a client) I would like to create in row AJ the date/timestamp somebody changed entries in A to AI (it does not matter if something has been added or deleted, I would just like to know when somebody last looked at client data and updated/changed something). Is that possible to program with a formula or VBA?
Many thanks.

I checked various posts on IF formulas but I cannot find a way to receive the correct result in my report. I manage deliveries and I would like to calculate the delay days basing on the data from delivery report. The trick is that the delay will depend on the status of delivery, as in each case I have to consider a different date and column in Excel. These are the data:
Status of delivery:
Confirmed
Unloaded
Unloading
Not confirmed
Started
In route
Pick-up pending
Prepared
This delivery status is updated in C column in my Raw Data report. For each, I will have to calculate the delay in a different way therefore I figured that IF formula could be of use.
Below you can see the columns that contain the relevant dates for the calculations:
Status of delivery and reference date:
Confirmed - D
Unloaded - D
Unloading - D
Not confirmed - S
Started - D
In route - S
Pick-up pending - E
Prepared - S
I made this formula as below, sadly, only the first record is calculated correctly, the rest of the delays is "null".
=IF(C2="Confirmed";(TODAY()-D2);IF(C2="Unloaded";(TODAY()-D2);IF(C2="Unloading";(TODAY()-D2);IF(C2="Not confirmed";(TODAY()-S2);IF(C2="Started";(TODAY()-D2);IF(C2="In route";(TODAY()-S2);IF(C2="Pick-up pending";(TODAY()-E2);IF(C2="Prepared";(TODAY()-S2);"null"))))))))
Do you happen to have any idea where am I making the error which I don´t see? I will be grateful for any help. If it´s also relevant, I am using Excel 2016.
Breaking it down so the long line becomes readable.
=IF(C2="Confirmed";
(TODAY()-D2);
IF(C2="Unloaded";
(TODAY()-D2);
IF(C2="Unloading";
(TODAY()-D2);
IF(C2="Not confirmed";
(TODAY()-S2);
IF(C2="Started";
(TODAY()-D2);
IF(C2="In route";
(TODAY()-S2);
IF(C2="Pick-up pending";
(TODAY()-E2);
IF(C2="Prepared";
(TODAY()-S2);
"null"

At first glance, what I'm looking at is basically a vertical lookup schedule here.
So, I created these two colums. One is the text status we're looking for.
The other is the calculated date.
Single date VLOOKUp
Assuming D2, S2 and E2 are fixed fields I made the formula =TODAY() - $D$2
Then it's a simple matter of doing the VLOOKUP in the correct field.
Because we're working with a date type field we need to convert the number to text to get a meaning full date. (I used JJ in the screenshot for years because I have a dutch locale)
Then we also need to handle when VLOOKUP can't find anything, for that we use IFERROR.
=IFERROR(TEXT(VLOOKUP(F6;$A$2:$B$9;2);"MM-DD-YY");"NULL")
And now you have an easy to expand lookup table you can put anywhere, hide on a worker tab, etc.. where you can calculate your values, where you can add and remove values.
Many rows, many dates
But, say you have many rows with different statusses and dates, and you wish to know the number of days it'll take. Then this vertical lookup doesn't look so useful because it can only be used for one row.
We can still leverage VLOOKUP to make our life a bit easier
Assuming there are dates in colums D, E and S
=IFERROR(DATEDIF(TODAY();INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW();VLOOKUP(F2;$A$2:$B$9;2;FALSE)));"d");"NULL")
We use VLOOKUP to see which column we need to look in. We use a number here for column, not a letter.
We then use ADDRESS to get an excel address reference for the current ROW(), and the column we found via vlookup
We funnel that through INDIRECT so we can get the value from that targeted cell.
Then we get a DATEDIFference in days from offset today.
We wrap it all in an IFERROR to keep things clean.
You could use an INDEX($D2:$S2;0;VLOOKUP($F2;$A$2:$B$9;2;FALSE)) to get the same effect, as pointed out by Dirk Reichel but you have to mindful then that the index used is from the start of the matrix range. So here the matrix starts on row D. So D2 is index 1 instead of 4 it is with my original method, so you'd need to adjust the lookup table accordingly.
I need some help and I know I am not the only one to deal with this issue but I am wondering if you might have some ideas on how to handle the situation of comparing two rows of data filling out start and end dates.
To give you some context, we have a huge hierarchy (approx 8,000 rows and about 12 columns wide) that is updated each year. Sometimes the values change and sometimes they don’t. When the values don’t change, then I don’t need to adjust the dates. When the values do change and a new row is added, I need to change the data.
I have attached some fake data to try and illustrate my data. I am building this in MS Access, so I think this is more of a DBA type question that is going to be manipulated via a recordset type method.
In my example I have two tables – Old Table and New Table. In each table there is a routing code field that represents my join field and primary key for this table.
The Old table represents existing data - tblMain. The New Table represents the data to be appended - tblTemp.
To append the data, I have an append query set up in Access. I perform a left join between the Old and New tables, joining on every field and append the rows that are null in the Old table. That’s fine and that is not where my issue is.
What is causing me issue is how to fill out the start and end dates.
So as you can see from my tables, we are running a zoo. Let’s just say for the sake of the argument, our zoo started off pretty simple and has become more sophisticated. We now want our hierarchy to expand out and become a bit more detailed as we are now capturing the type of animal (Level 4) and the native location (Level 5).
As you can see when comparing one table to another the routing codes are the same, so the append query has to have a join on each field. When you do this, you return the Result Table which is essentially the Old and New tables stacked on top of each other. You might think about a Union query but this is going to give me duplicates and I don’t want that.
If you notice in the Result Table there is a Start and End Date. Let’s just say I get the start and end dates via message box that pops up upon the import of the data and is held in a variable. I think there are dates in my real data but still trying to verify this.
So how do I compare (pseudo code for the logic needed)?
• For each routing code:
Compare Levels 1-5
If the routing code is the same but Levels 1 -5 are not the same
fill out the end date of the old record
fill out the start date of the new record
This idea of comparing two records and filling out a data is quite prevalent in my organization but I haven’t found a way of creating the logic that consistently works so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Old Table
New Table
Result Table
The best way I can explain my problem is by showing a few screenshots.
I need to turn data like this:
[
Into something that displays like this:
After Data
There are multiple part numbers in the file, and I need the macro to take all the data from a matching part number and transform the data into what is displayed in the second image. All the part numbers are grouped with their data together, so it wouldn't need to run the loop through the top every single time, but adding to the entries with each new piece of data. Something also needs to be done for the years as well, because the way the data is presented, is in a range of years, and I need an entry for each year in that range.
Additional Information:
I am using this data for prep for category data for a BigCommerce site, that is working with a year/make/model plugin on the site, to create a vehicle lookup system. Thus in order for the user to look up their vehicle accurately the categories need to be listed the way they are in the second picture, which needs to be the result of the macro.
I thank anyone who takes the time to look into this, it will cut down the time I spend doing this manually by a huge amount.
You can do this with a formula (without actual VBA):
In cell F2 write: ="YMM/"&C2&"/"&D2&"/"&E2&";"
In cell F3 write: =F2&"YMM/"&C3&"/"&D3&"/"&E3&";"
drag down the formula in F3 until the last row.
The last row will contain the entire string of all vehicles.
I just noticed you may have duplicate values. You can use the built in Remove Duplicates feature to remove those before using the above technique.
i am developing an app for windows in vb net.
I am stuck in the last part which is the following and i would like some help on to where should i look or do.My question:I have one database in mysql called patient.each patient have the usual columns(name,surname etc..).Apart from all the columns there is one column called 'time' and another one called 'date'.I have also one datagrid where these values are displayed.When a new user is to be added,all the fields are filled and in the 'time' he fills the time of visit.I would like to ask if there is any way to restrict the range of time according to date...for example to be able in the beginning before adding the new patient,to say that in august 30 of 2014 the range of time for appointments is from 9 to 10.So when the new patient is added on that date ,to book only between this range every ten minutes eg 9:10,then 9:20 and so on until 10.
I am really stuck and been searching the last week for a solution ,so any ideas on the implementation would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance..If you need some of my code let me know.
If you want to restrict the input data, you have to use the DataGridView's CellValidating event. There you can check wether the input is ok or not. If it's not ok, you can set the ErrorText field of the edited row, where you can explain to the user what's wrong with his input.
Have a look at this HowTo from the MSDN.
The goal of my project is to create an out of office program that will allow easy tracking and auditing of our Sharepoint site as it doesnt have a built in system to do. I have no background in VBA, but I have done quite a bit of python. That being said I've ran into my first issue. I'm not sure how the syntax works, and what commands I should be using to get the results I want. I.e. sheets vs worksheet vs worksheets.
I have a workbook, 1 sheet is Raw Data, in which I import data from a sharpoint site. It displays the following columns
Resource Name -- Absence Type -- ID -- Start Time -- End Time -- Created -- Modified by
The next sheet I have is tracking, it's called Tracking. On this page the user imputs Resource Names they want to track into Column A, and then the remainign columns are going to display the number of absences that name has so it will look something like
Resource Name -- Vacation -- Sick -- WFH
Clooney, George -- 2 -- 0 -- 7
A counter will run based on each instance that appears in raw data and adds the number to the counter based on the absence type from raw data.
I need a way to loop through Raw Data and look for the names that appear in the Tracking data. If Possible I'd like to store them in a third worksheet jsut for testing purposes. I know the logic I need to use, but what I dont know is the syntax to refrence the pages together. Any insight on the best way to accomplish this?
Question : I need to Search raw data for every instance Resource Name appears in it from the Tracking page and store into another worksheet.
If you don't want to use PivotTables (can be hard to search later) this is the way to do it with COUNTIFS. This formula goes in the "Sick" column of Tracking in row 2 (assuming row 1 is headers).
=COUNTIFS('Raw Data'!A:A,Tracking!A2,'Raw Data'!B:B,"Sick")
It assumes that in Raw Data Name is in column A and AbsenceType is in Column B, but it doesn't matter how many records there are.
The way I understand your question (and it wasn't easy), you are dealing with a bunch of timesheet info. You seem to be trying to count the number of instances of different kinds of time off that people are taking - whether that be vacation, sick or working from home(WFH).
I've never heard someone's name referred to as a "Resource Name" lol.
You really don't need to use VBA for this problem - at least not anything that you can't just record a macro for - it seems to be a rather simple problem that can you solve using a pivot table.
If you want to you can set up a vlookup reference to this pivot table to create the little form that you seem to be trying to create. But really I think your better off just teaching whoever is going to be using this about pivot tables. Let me know if I misunderstood your question and I'll be happy to delete this post.
