I have the table as shown in google big Query:
I just want to do the following:
Calculate Category wise total units sold
Calculate Category wise average selling price
consider below approach
select 'category' type, category name, count(1) units_sold, sum(sale_price) total_sale, round(avg(sale_price), 2) average_selling_price
from your_table group by category
union all
select * from (
select 'product' type, product name, count(1) units_sold, sum(sale_price) total_sale, round(avg(sale_price), 2) average_selling_price
from your_table group by product
order by total_sale desc limit 10
)
union all
select * from (
select 'order_date' type, '' || order_date name, count(1) units_sold, sum(sale_price) total_sale, round(avg(sale_price), 2) average_selling_price
from your_table group by order_date
order by total_sale desc limit 5
)
order by type
if applied to sample/dummy data - output would be like below

I am working on a restaurant management system. There I have two tables
order_details(orderId,dishId,createdAt)
dishes(id,name,imageUrl)
My customer wants to see a report top 3 selling items / least selling 3 items by the month
For the moment I did something like this
SELECT
*
FROM
(SELECT
SUM(qty) AS qty,
order_details.dishId,
MONTHNAME(order_details.createdAt) AS mon,
dishes.name,
dishes.imageUrl
FROM
rms.order_details
INNER JOIN dishes ON order_details.dishId = dishes.id
GROUP BY order_details.dishId , MONTHNAME(order_details.createdAt)) t
ORDER BY t.qty
This gives me all the dishes sold count order by qty.
I have to manually filter max 3 records and reject the rest. There should be a SQL way of doing this. How do I do this in SQL?
You would use row_number() for this purpose. You don't specify the database you are using, so I am guessing at the appropriate date functions. I also assume that you mean a month within a year, so you need to take the year into account as well:
SELECT ym.*
FROM (SELECT YEAR(od.CreatedAt) as yyyy,
MONTH(od.createdAt) as mm,
SUM(qty) AS qty,
od.dishId, d.name, d.imageUrl,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY YEAR(od.CreatedAt), MONTH(od.createdAt) ORDER BY SUM(qty) DESC) as seqnum_desc,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY YEAR(od.CreatedAt), MONTH(od.createdAt) ORDER BY SUM(qty) DESC) as seqnum_asc
FROM rms.order_details od INNER JOIN
dishes d
ON od.dishId = d.id
GROUP BY YEAR(od.CreatedAt), MONTH(od.CreatedAt), od.dishId
) ym
WHERE seqnum_asc <= 3 OR
seqnum_desc <= 3;
Using the above info i used i combination of group by, order by and limit
as shown below. I hope this is what you are looking for
SELECT
t.qty,
t.dishId,
t.month,
d.name,
d.mageUrl
from
(
SELECT
od.dishId,
count(od.dishId) AS 'qty',
date_format(od.createdAt,'%Y-%m') as 'month'
FROM
rms.order_details od
group by date_format(od.createdAt,'%Y-%m'),od.dishId
order by qty desc
limit 3) t
join rms.dishes d on (t.dishId = d.id)
I am trying to build a KPI of top 2 performing product categories for each customer.
I have sales data with following relevant columns -
customerid, product, product_category, order_qty, product_amt , order_date
I am using legacy SQL syntax in BQ.
This is a possible solution...
SELECT
customer_id,
product_category,
order_qty
FROM (
SELECT
customerid,
product_category,
SUM(order_qty) AS order_qty,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY customerid ORDER BY order_qty DESC) AS rn
FROM
[project:dataset.table]
GROUP BY
1, 2
)
WHERE
rn <= 2
ORDER BY
1, 3 DESC
This question has been covered similarly before BUT I'm struggling.
I need to find top N sales based on customer buying patterns..
ideally this needs to be top N by customer by Month Period by Year but for now i'm just looking at top N over the whole DB.
My query looks like:
-- QUERY TO SHOW TOP 2 CUSTOMER INVOICES BY CUSTOMER BY MONTH
SELECT
bill_to_code,
INVOICE_NUMBER,
SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) AS 'SALES',
ROW_NUMBER() OVER ( PARTITION BY bill_to_code ORDER BY SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) DESC ) AS 'Row'
FROM
FACT_OM_INVOICE
JOIN dim_customer_bill_to ON FACT_OM_INVOICE.dim_customer_bill_to_key = dim_customer_bill_to.dim_customer_bill_to_key
--WHERE
-- 'ROW' < 2
GROUP BY
invoice_number,
Dim_customer_bill_to.bill_to_code
I can't understand the solutions given to restrict Row to =< N.
Please help.
Try this.
-- QUERY TO SHOW TOP 2 CUSTOMER INVOICES BY CUSTOMER BY MONTH
;WITH Top2Customers
AS
(
SELECT
bill_to_code,
INVOICE_NUMBER,
SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) AS 'SALES',
ROW_NUMBER() OVER ( PARTITION BY bill_to_code ORDER BY SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) DESC )
AS 'RowNumber'
FROM
FACT_OM_INVOICE
JOIN dim_customer_bill_to ON FACT_OM_INVOICE.dim_customer_bill_to_key = dim_customer_bill_to.dim_customer_bill_to_key
GROUP BY
invoice_number,
Dim_customer_bill_to.bill_to_code
)
SELECT * FROM Top2Customers WHERE RowNumber < 3
You have to wrap your select into another to use the value produced by row_number()
select * from (
SELECT
bill_to_code,
INVOICE_NUMBER,
SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) AS SALES,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER ( PARTITION BY bill_to_code ORDER BY SUM( INVOICE_AMOUNT_CORP ) DESC ) AS RowNo
FROM
FACT_OM_INVOICE
JOIN dim_customer_bill_to ON FACT_OM_INVOICE.dim_customer_bill_to_key = dim_customer_bill_to.dim_customer_bill_to_key
--WHERE
-- 'ROW' < 2
GROUP BY
invoice_number,
Dim_customer_bill_to.bill_to_code
) base where RowNo < 2
I have a table with purchased orders data.
Each row contails the amount of certain item purchased, cost per item and the order number group. Each different item purchased is a new row with same order number.
I basically want to return the total cost for that order. I have tried the following but am getting nowhere:
SELECT order_number, SUM( sub_total ) AS `total`
FROM
SELECT order_number, SUM( SUM( amount ) * SUM( cost_per_item ) ) AS `sub_total`
FROM `ecom_orders`
WHERE member_id = '4'
GROUP BY order_number
ORDER BY purchase_date DESC
Pretty much any SQL-92 compliant RDBMS will take this:
SELECT
order_number
,SUM(amount * cost_per_item) AS total
,purchase_date
FROM
ecom_orders
WHERE member_id = '4'
GROUP BY order_number,purchase_date
ORDER BY purchase_date DESC
I have a SQL table "ITM_SLS" with the following fields:
ITEM
DESCRIPTION
TRANSACTION #
DATE
QTY SOLD
I want to be able to output QTY SOLD for a one month value and a year to date value so that the output would look like this:
ITEM, DESCRIPTION, QTY SOLD MONTH, QTY SOLD YEAR TO DATE
Is this possible?
You could calculate the total quantity sold using group by in a subquery. For example
select a.Item, a.Description, b.MonthQty, c.YearQty
from (
select distinct Item, Description from TheTable
) a
left join (
select Item, sum(Qty) as MonthQty
from TheTable
where datediff(m,Date,getdate()) <= 1
group by Item
) b on a.Item = b.Item
left join (
select Item, sum(Qty) as YearQty
from TheTable
where datediff(y,Date,getdate()) <= 1
group by Item
) c on a.Item = c.Item
The method to limit the subquery to a particular date range differs per DBMS, this example uses the SQL Server datediff function.
Assuming the "one month" is last month...
select item
, description
, sum (case when trunc(transaction_date, 'MM')
= trunc(add_months(sysdate, -1), 'MM')
then qty_sold
else 0
end) as sold_month
, sum(qty_sold) as sold_ytd
from itm_sls
where transaction_date >= trunc(sysdate, 'yyyy')
group by item, description
/
This will give you an idea of what you can do:
select
ITEM,
DESCRIPTION,
QTY SOLD as MONTH,
( select sum(QTY SOLD)
from ITM_SLS
where ITEM = I.ITEM
AND YEAR = i.YEAR
) as YEAR TO DATE
from ITM_SLS I
