I'm working on multiple projects at the same time which are inter dependent. Sometimes, when one developer pushes updates to one project (for example Liquibase changes), they are picked up by my IntelliJ which immediately complains about missing columns when I restart the project. I did not explicitly issue any fetch/pull or update request against the remote repository. This is kind of annoying because I am then forced to pull all the new changes locally.
I remember my old IntelliJ version behaving normally (2019) so this is a new "feature" I guess? How can I disable it?
Could you please share screenshots of an issue? IDE doesn't run pull/fetch or upgrade automatically if you are using Git, but there is a chance that you may have Git Toolbox plugin installed and it has a feature for Auto-fetch and you need to disable it in settings

As an daily IntelliJ user you usually concentrate on the projects you are working on and IntelliJ is just a tool. You are not willing to dig into tool's problem itself. But this is what is forced on you by default after IntelliJ installation on MacOS and opening relatively big project(most of the projects nowadays are huge and have thousands of files and use numbers of IntelliJ 3rd party plugins).
Here is a minimal list of actions. IntelliJ must have set MORE RAM to be used by default.

From IntelliJ open Help / Show log in Finder and open idea.log file with Console.app; In Console.app press "Reload" and "Now" buttons to track "live" what IntelliJ is doing.
If in logs of IntelliJ you find that some of the plugins exit with fatal error, you just uninstall those plugins. For me the one that failed to the moment of this answer was "BashSupport" as example.

From IntelliJ open Help / Edit Custom Properties.... Here you can set same properties that will override global and will work only for current OS user.

Make sure your project build output for *.class files is set. Read: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360000000584-Build-does-nothing . In my case when IntelliJ started project build it terminated without warnings shortly after.
Finally in my case none of 6 steps above solved the issue so I found this read: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000532044-IntelliJ-cannot-build-projects . Basically try reinstall IntelliJ from original distribution again.
I know that you must read https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea every time you install a new version of IntelliJ, but why not to add some consistency into configuration process of the main java process that runs IntelliJ itself? You can ask how much ram to use during installation of IntelliJ and explain why it is so. Then Help digging won't be necessary in the first place for devs who fed up with changing those default settings that will be always more than 700MB. I think for most devs out there it is at least 10x of that. I bet what makes most devs mad about this is not the fact that you need to do some options changing, but where those options are depending on OS plus the fact that you simply forget why IntelliJ app just exits while you are doing a debugging of your own app. I bet this problem makes us mad since first java based IDEs appeared. User-friendly is the key here and explicit reminders within the app itself would help.
I have been using Eclipse Helios/Luna with plugin installation of clearcase plugin 8.0.1.x version and have imported the base code.
Recently, when trying to change the config-spec to update the build files, the process is running for hours continuously even without a single file.
Previously, we had Clearcase version as 7.0.x version and the corresponding plugin installed on Eclipse Helios without facing any issues.
But, have been facing issues during update of files after the upgrade of clearcase server to 8.0.x and with the corresponding client plugin in eclipse.
Also, tried manual update from repository for the whole folder. Still no luck.
But, if I know manually update the file one by one individually, it is going fine.
As the number of files in the project is more, it would not be efficient for us.
Can someone provide some alternatives to resolve this problem?
As a workaround, we have been creating new views everytime there is an update to the config-spec.
One workaround would be to switch to dynamic views, supported in the latest 8.x version of ClearTeam/ClearCase. No reload needed with those kind of views.
The other would be to test with a minimal config spec, and load rules making sure you are loading only as few files as possible (jsut to check that those files do update when you change the config spec).
It can also depends on the exact version of your ClearCase installation.
There are some patches for hanging issue (like "PM48668 Problem: The IBM Rational ClearTeam Explorer may hang intermittently when many views are started.")
Whenever you hit 'the check for update' button, IntelliJ checks for IDE update and starts by checking and updating all your active plugins.
The point is that I use a pretty crooked plugin which only works for me in an old version (a release from last year).
To be more specific, I'm talking about 'QA Plug PMD' which is not compatible with my imported sonar rules in its last version.
Actually, QA Plug PMD's last version is based on PMD 5.0.x and I need QA Plug PMD's 2012 version which is based on PMD 4.3.
In summary, when the QA Plug PMD plugin gets updated, my coding rules are all reseted because the plugin is not backwards-compatible.
That being said, I need to know if there's a way I can tell IntelliJ not to care about this specific plugin during its update process and leave it alone :)
Goto File -> Setting -> Appearance& Behaviour>System Setting->
Updates->Uncheck the Automatic uppadte checkbox.

The best way would probably be to not install it from the plugin repository. Try to install it from disk instead. Download it from the link you provided instead (the zip file will be downloaded):

During the update you will get a question whether you want to update the plugins as well and you can always uncheck that plugin:

I have an IntelliJ project with several modules. Some of the modules should be run as servers. For every server (module), I have a run configuration.
Can I bundle those run configurations together, so I don't need to click run or stop five times?
If it matters, the project is fully mavenized.
The previously accepted answer does not work for running multiple servers or any scripts which do not terminate. However, now you can use the Compound run configuration to execute multiple non-terminating servers simultaneously. It looks like this:
Steps to get it working:
Create the individual run configurations
Create a new compound configuration
Choose the desired individual run configurations.
Run the new Compound configuration.
Go to the intellij documentation.
All the individual configs will run simultaneously - perfect for servers and other threads which do not exit!
NOTE: Even the MultiRun plugin recommends using Compound on their GitHub page.

I found that 'Compound' sorted all modules alphabetically and launched them in that order. This could be a problem if there are modules with dependencies. If there is a way to override that sorting, I could not find it.
I am using the paid version of IntelliJ 2020.2
I wanted a simple thing - Start my Spring Boot application and then start my Angular application. I tried the 'Run Another Configuration' way and it did not work. I faced the same issue as faced by #AxelFontaine.
The Multirun plugin solved my problem. I did have to restart the IDE twice - once to update it after plugin installed and the second time because there was an error saving some configuration. But since then its working just as expected. This is very helpful as I can work on the UI and see the changes immediately and similarly the Spring dev tools lets me change code and it reloads immediately. This plugin is very very helpful.
I'm wondering how Software Development Team distribute their Standard IDE(s)?
E.g. developing with Eclipse, custom Code formatter, svn Resository, Copyright Header..
At the moment my Team has a standard zip File which is then distributed withhin the developers.
Problem:
If one file, a Plugin or the IDE itself changes, e.g. new Coding Guidlines, Upgrade Eclipse 3.5.1 the whole distribution has to be done again. Every developer needs to unzip the bundel again. Imagine your working with different Workspaces (Jetty, different Tomcamt Versions, WTP) due to Project History That doesn't scale

I guess best would be a Program letting you choose your current Project and then downloads the configured IDE from the Server and leting you know if Project Config Files are Updated
For eclipse look at Buckminster it targets exactly your target I suppose, didn't use it personally through.
At my previous company they wrote a custom update agent that pulled from a centrally configured server which was updated by the team leaders. It worked well, until people wanted to install their own plugins.
Basically, a developer wanted a plugin, fought in futility to get it included in the default (managed) repo, installed it himself, then updates broke on his machine when the team lead had a sudden stroke of common sense and included it.
They never did come up with a 'good' way to manage it. But, at least they didn't put us all on terminal servers with thin clients.
