Why does Command-N not open a new window in Safari? It opens a new Tab instead - safari

I want to open a new window in Safari. The stated File menu shortcut for this in the Safari app is Command-N. When I type Command-N "New Window" in Safari on Big Sur, I get a new tab. There is no key combination that results in a new window except command-shift-N, which I don't want to use as it makes a private browser window.
Safari settings has "Open pages in tabs instead of new windows" set to "Never." So that's not the problem... any ideas? Does this work for anyone besides me?
Thanks

I found the solution!
Go into System Preferences, General (settings).
Toward the bottom there is a setting for "Prefer Tabs" with a dropdown menu. Change it to "in full screen".
Fixed it for me.

How to remove Desktop tab in KDE Plasma

I would like to remove the Desktop tab from KDE Plasma desktop environment and get rid of the context menu. Is there a way to do this ?
Hi Chris, Thanks for the reply. I am running KDE 4.14.8. I am not seeing what you are describing. The context menu is the menu when you right click on the desktop. I think you are calling it "desktop menu". My original snapshot show that menu. That menu changed depending what desktop theme I selected. I could not find anything call Configure Desktop. The closest thing to that would be Default Desktop Setting and there is not there about the Tweaks tab. The project that I am working on is kind of mission critical. It would be just a plain desktop without anything. The only thing the user can do is log on, does his job and log off. All the things that can distract the user will be removed. I got most of them except for this pesky toolbox.
To remove the toolbox:
right-click on desktop to get the desktop menu
select Configure Desktop, a dialog appears
switch to Tweaks tab
uncheck Show the desktop toolbox
You can also drag it to a corner (when widgets are unlocked), then it will not show the current activity name, but will still be accessible.

New window opens with login screen while automating

I am facing below described issue while automating the application using selenium webdriver:
When I click on a link a new window should pen with the contents of that window, but when I click on the link new window is opening with login screen, what may be the issue, can anyone help me in this regard.
This issue is only with automation (manual click always works), but sometimes works.
Thanks in advance
Sounds like when a new window opens, all of the session cookies from the previous window are not being transferred. In this situation I would put a try catch block to login again if the login window appears.

Open given url in OpenERP in new tab

How to open url link on new tab instead of pop up in OpenERP on button click?
In V7, ctrl-clicking on most links works as expected (i.e. open link in a new tab).
In 6.1 you have to create a new tab by Ctrl-clicking on the OpenERP logo (in the top left corner), which opens a new tab with the default screen and then navigate from there to the page you need (tedious, I know...). You can also try this addon: https://code.launchpad.net/~h-jaroslav/+junk/web_tabs which opens links in tabs inside the web client tab.
First you have mark the following options from your browser preferences
"Open New window in a new Tab" and
"When I Open a link in a New Tab,switch it to immediately"
Second, you just set your mouse over to link in openerp and press Scroll key.
The page will Open/display in New Tab

iOS - Add menu item to Safari "Open with"

I'm new to iOS development - How do I create a Safari extension that adds a new item to the "Open with" menu (the same menu where I can bookmark the page)? I'd like to share the page URL that the user is currently viewing with a third-party app.
Thanks
Assuming you are using Xcode, go to your project settings, then choose your target. In the Info tab, you would add a Document Type which will associate it (doc, xls, txt, etc) with your application. If you open the item in safari, you will be presented with an option to open it in your app. In recent versions of mobile safari, I believe a bar appears at the top of the document presenting you with this option as opposed to appearing in the 'Add Bookmark' popover.
Here is some detailed information.

Safari Web Inspector Showing Up In New Window By Default

I've been using Chrome and am going back and forth between switching to Safari or staying with Chrome. My one small issue with Safari though is that the web inspector always shows up in a new window every time I toggle it. I press Command-Option-I and it opens in a new window and when I press Command-Option-I again it does not go away. I love the way the web inspector functions in Chrome and am wondering if there's a way to run the same way in Safari.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have had the issue for a long time. Here is the solution.
Right-click on a web page and select inspect element.
The console window appears in Fullscreen. Minimize the window like any Safari web page and it should a window like below.
Just above the 'Elements' tab, you should be able to see 2 icons. Clicking the icon on the left, opens the Console in right side of the browser and clicking the icon on the right, opens the Console in bottom of the browser
Hope this helps.
None of the methods upon are working for me (Safari 9.1), if you want to make the docking buttons of the inspector showing up:
open Terminal
type defaults read com.apple.Safari "__WebInspectorPageGroupLevel1__.WebKit2InspectorStartsAttached"
Once you checked if it returns 0,
do:
defaults write com.apple.Safari "__WebInspectorPageGroupLevel1__.WebKit2InspectorStartsAttached" 1
It's a bug in the Safari codebase.
Here is the bugreport and they're working on it (source)!
You could press the leftmost button at the Inspector's status bar and Inspector will dock.
UPDATE: Now, the button is on the right. When Inspector is in a separate window, the two small buttons in its upper right corner make it move to the 1) bottom of the Safari window 2) right side of the Safari window.
The only method that seemed to work for me was to resize the browser to a big enough size that it was big enough to contain the smallest size of an individual Inspect window. This for me, was widening the browser to at least around 65% percent width of the screen, and then you can "Inspect Element" and the default would be that the Inspect window would be at the bottom of the browser, and the browser with the Inspect window in it is resizable to any size now. Hope this helps some people.
Follow these steps to fix safari issue
Go to Develop --> User Agent --> Safari --> Select iphone --> then click on right side top symbol...
Select it and do inspect then you can see the button on left side top corner.
Now set to default setting by redoing the first point.
Please follow the step
Try clicking as shown:
I hope you get as shown:
I noticed when you have an open tab like the start page, the web inspector will pop up in a separate window. Also, there are no icons in the web inspector to attach it to the bottom or side. If you have a webpage open and do the same thing in the same window, that tab will have the web inspector attached to the bottom of the page (or whatever your attachment selection was prior).
