I am running selenium scripts on Edge browser. one of the functionality requires to initiate a audio or video call between two windows. In chrome, we can use 'use-fake-ui-for-media-stream' in chrome options. Is there anything similar for Edge. If there isn't, is there a way to accept these alerts at runtime. I have tried -
driver.switchTo().alert().accept(),
but this also doesn't work, and throws error saying no such alert present
Edited
I am using Edge chromium and java selenium and have set properties as below in code. Still permission pop up shows when script runs
Map<String, Object> prefs = new HashMap<String, Object>();
prefs.put("profile.default_content_settings.popups", 0);
prefs.put("download.default_directory", fileDownloadLocation);
EdgeOptions options= new EdgeOptions();
options.setCapability("prefs", prefs);
options.setCapability("allow-file-access-from-files", true);
options.setCapability("use-fake-device-for-media-stream", true);
options.setCapability("use-fake-ui-for-media-stream", true);
DesiredCapabilities capabilities = DesiredCapabilities.edge;
capabilities.setCapability(CapabilityType.ACCEPT_SSL_CERTS,true);
capabilities.setCapability(CapabilityType.ACCEPT_INSECURE_CERTS,true);
System.setProperty("webdriver.edge.driver", getDriverPath("EDGE"));
driver = new EdgeDriver(options);
driver.manage().window().maximize();
I suggest you make a test with the sample code below. I tried to test with the Edge Chromium browser and it looks like it is not asking the permission popup.
JAVA code:
public static void main(String[] args)
{
System.setProperty("webdriver.edge.driver","\\msedgedriver.exe");
EdgeOptions op=new EdgeOptions();
op.addArguments("use-fake-device-for-media-stream");
op.addArguments("use-fake-ui-for-media-stream");
WebDriver browser = new EdgeDriver(op);
browser.get("https://your_URL_here...");
}
In Selenium 3.141 Version we dont have addArguments() method but in Selenium 4.0.0 alpha version we have addArguments() method
EdgeOptions edgeOpts = new EdgeOptions();
edgeOpts.addArguments("allow-file-access-from-files");
edgeOpts.addArguments("use-fake-device-for-media-stream");
edgeOpts.addArguments("use-fake-ui-for-media-stream");
edgeOpts.addArguments("--disable-features=EnableEphemeralFlashPermission");
driver = new EdgeDriver(edgeOpts);

I know this is an old question, and I've tried answers from a few posts such as Disable Chrome notifications (Selenium)
Unfortunately none worked, the browser notification popup still comes and interrupts my simulations.
My Chrome version is 75.0.3770.100 (Official Build) (64-bit), running on MacOS.
Edit:
After this question was marked as a duplicate of How to disable push-notifications using Selenium for Firefox and Chrome?, I've tried the solutions, but it still did not work for me.
String chromePath = "somepath/selenium-2.48.2/chromedriver";
System.setProperty("webdriver.chrome.driver", chromePath);
Map<String, Object> prefs = new HashMap<String, Object>();
prefs.put("profile.default_content_setting_values.notifications", 2);
prefs.put("credentials_enable_service", false);
prefs.put("profile.password_manager_enabled", false);
ChromeOptions options = new ChromeOptions();
options.setExperimentalOption("prefs", prefs);
options.addArguments("start-maximized");
options.addArguments("disable-infobars");
options.addArguments("--disable-extensions");
options.addArguments("--disable-notifications");
driver = new ChromeDriver(options);
Below are the original solutions I tried.
String chromePath = "somepathto/chromedriver";
ChromeOptions chromeOptions = new ChromeOptions();
chromeOptions.addArguments("--disable-notifications");
System.setProperty("webdriver.chrome.driver", chromePath);
WebDriver driver = new ChromeDriver(chromeOptions);
// Login
try {
driver.get(sometestURL);
driver.manage().window().maximize();
// do some operations
} catch (Exception ex) {
System.out.println(ex);
}
I also tried this:
String chromePath = "somepath/selenium-2.48.2/chromedriver";
Map<String, Object> prefs = new HashMap<String, Object>();
prefs.put("profile.default_content_setting_values.notifications", 2);
ChromeOptions chromeOptions = new ChromeOptions();
chromeOptions.setExperimentalOption("prefs", prefs);
System.setProperty("webdriver.chrome.driver", chromePath);
WebDriver driver = new ChromeDriver(chromeOptions);
But the notification still comes "xxxxwebsite wants to show notifications Allow Block" on the upper left of the window.
What I did not do right?
I just tested this on Windows with Chrome 75.0.3770.142 (64 bit) and ChromeDriver 75.0.3770.90 (see log below) against web site https://www.nzz.ch (because it asks for permission to show push notifications). I used Selenium 3.14.0.
08:27:37.184 [main] INFO i.g.bonigarcia.wdm.WebDriverManager - Exporting webdriver.chrome.driver as C:\Users\xxxxx\.m2\repository\webdriver\chromedriver\win32\75.0.3770.90\chromedriver.exe
Starting ChromeDriver 75.0.3770.90 (a6dcaf7e3ec6f70a194cc25e8149475c6590e025-refs/branch-heads/3770#{#1003}) on port 32864
For me the switch also mentioned here and in the linked resources reliably deactivates the popup from being displayed:
options.addArguments("--disable-notifications");
Changing the default setting profile.default_content_setting_values.notifications is not necessary in my case. So if this does not work for you
either you are not setting the option correctly,
you are using a (possibly outdated) ChromeDriver version not supporting it or
for some reason on MacOS the driver does not implement it.
P.S.: In both Firefox and Chrome for me it was not problem to e.g. click links and navigate to other pages even during the notification pop-up was shown. Did you have any problems there or is the pop-up just an annoyance?
I'm trying to automate the download of an XML file with Google Chrome.
I'm using:
Google Chrome v73.0.3683.75 (64 bits)
Chromedriver v73
Selenium WebDriver v3.14.0
C#
The problem comes up when a message of harmful file appears:
As I'm using Chromedriver, I can not interact with this message, so I tried to accept the download from the chrome://downloads page.
Once I open the chrome://downloads page, I click on the Keep button, but an Alert comes up again to confirm the download.
This popup is not a popup Selenium and Chromedriver can Handle with the Dismiss()/Accept()/SendKeys()/... methods. When I try to SwitchTo() it, Chromedriver crashes.
I tried to directly send the keystrokes of {TAB} and {SPACE}/{RIGHT} and {ENTER}, but Chrome seems not to catch them...
The full code is:
String currentWindow = this.Drivers[Navegador].CurrentWindowHandle;
String popupHandle = "";
((IJavaScriptExecutor)this.Drivers[Navegador]).ExecuteScript("window.open('about:blank','_blank')");
ReadOnlyCollection<String> tabs = this.Drivers[Navegador].WindowHandles;
foreach (string handle in tabs){
if (handle != currentWindow){
popupHandle = handle;
break;
}
}
this.Drivers[Navegador].SwitchTo().Window(popupHandle);
this.Drivers[Navegador].Navigate().GoToUrl("chrome://downloads");
String script = "return document.querySelector('body > downloads-manager').shadowRoot.querySelector('#downloadsList > downloads-item').shadowRoot.querySelector('#dangerous > paper-button:nth-child(2)');";
//String script = "return document.querySelector('body > downloads-manager').shadowRoot.querySelector('#downloadsList > downloads-item:nth-child(2)').shadowRoot.querySelector('#url').textContent;";
IWebElement boton = (IWebElement) ((IJavaScriptExecutor) this.Drivers[Navegador]).ExecuteScript(script);
boton.Click();
Thread.Sleep(2000);
SendKeys.Send("{TAB}{SPACE}");
Thread.Sleep(1000);
this.Drivers[Navegador].Close();
this.Drivers[Navegador].SwitchTo().Window(currentWindow);
this.Drivers[Navegador].SwitchTo().DefaultContent();
result = true;
IMPORTANT NOTE:
I tried to launch Chrome with all the flags/options/experimental_options/user_preferences/... possible and it doesn't work. These options/arguments seem to be deprecated in the latest versions of Chrome or Chromedriver.
As discussed with OP, answering the question in Java.
Encountered the same problem few months back, so this is how it worked for me, might work for you as well.
Map<String, Object> chromePreferences = new Hashtable<String, Object>();
// Below preferences will disable popup dialog while downloading the file
chromePreferences.put("profile.default_content_settings.popups", 0);
chromePreferences.put("download.prompt_for_download", "false");
// Set the customised path for downloading the file, if required
chromePreferences.put("download.default_directory", "path");
ChromeOptions chromeOptions = new ChromeOptions();
chromeOptions.setExperimentalOption("prefs", chromePreferences);
DesiredCapabilities cap = DesiredCapabilities.chrome();
cap.setCapability(CapabilityType.ACCEPT_SSL_CERTS, true);
cap.setCapability(ChromeOptions.CAPABILITY, chromeOptions);
//Now initiate ChromeDriver with the capabilities set above and continue with your automation
ChromeDriver chromeDriver = new ChromeDriver(cap);
I recently ran into this issue, and due to the deprecation of some of the methods in the ChromeDriver, the above solution didn't work.
After a lot of research I decided to switch to IE and explore an alternate option with the inspiration from this article - https://sqa.stackexchange.com/questions/3169/downloading-a-file-in-internet-explorer-through-selenium/3520 I came up with this solution in JAVA.
It is not as 'clean' but it worked for me.
public static void main(String[] args) throws NoAlertPresentException,InterruptedException {
System.setProperty("webdriver.ie.driver","C:\\selenium-java-3.141.59\\IEDriverServer.exe");
String url ="myfileurl";
WebDriver driver = new InternetExplorerDriver();
driver.get(url);
try {
Robot robot = new Robot();
Thread.sleep(2000);
//press alt+s key to save
robot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_ALT);
robot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_S);
robot.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_S);
robot.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_ALT);
Thread.sleep(2000);
}
catch (AWTException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
driver.close();
}
I am facing an weird issue. I have a selenium suite to execute on multiple browsers. It works fine of chrome and Firefox. But in case of IE, the web page under test gets shrunk (web page resize) making elements hidden. Hence facing NoSuchElementException.
I have already tried executing on full screen. No help.
Please help in solving this issue.
Thanks,
Praveen
Don't know the exact reason for that, however, suggested workaround would be to implement pre-execution method for your test which would take care of all your browser different configurations. For example, if you are using Java with Selenium and JUnit5, it might be:
#BeforeEach
void beforeTestExecution() {
DesiredCapabilities desiredCapabilities = DesiredCapabilities.internetExplorer();
desiredCapabilities.setCapability(
CapabilityType.ForSeleniumServer.ENSURING_CLEAN_SESSION, true);
driver = new InternetExplorerDriver(desiredCapabilities);
// Navigate to URL
driver.get("http://www.yoursite.com");
// Maximize your website window before test.
driver.manage().window().maximize();
}
Or:
#BeforeEach
void configBrowser() {
DesiredCapabilities desiredCapabilities = DesiredCapabilities.internetExplorer();
desiredCapabilities.setCapability(
CapabilityType.ForSeleniumServer.ENSURING_CLEAN_SESSION, true);
driver = new InternetExplorerDriver(desiredCapabilities);
// Start Internet Explorer maximized.
driver.manage().window().maximize();
}
I'm using Chrome browser version 57.0.2987.110 and I'm trying to open up a web page with Selenium, only thing is it's only opening the browser with the standard website but is not opening the web page I told it to. It's not an option to change the browser, I have to work with chrome.
I get this error right here:
Request for unknown Channel-associated interface: ui::mojom::GpuMain
I tried this solution so far, but it didn't work for me: Strange error in selenium after upgrading to chromedriver 2.28 needed for chrome 57
This is my code:
public static void main(String[] args) {
WebDriver driver;
String PROXY;
Proxy proxy;
proxy = new Proxy();
PROXY = "proxy.myproxy:8080";
ChromeOptions options = new ChromeOptions();
options.addArguments("--disable-gpu");
System.setProperty("webdriver.chrome.driver", "/usr/bin/google-chrome");
proxy.setHttpProxy(PROXY).setFtpProxy(PROXY).setSslProxy(PROXY);
DesiredCapabilities capabilities = new DesiredCapabilities();
capabilities.setCapability(CapabilityType.PROXY, proxy);
capabilities.setCapability(ChromeOptions.CAPABILITY, options);
driver = new ChromeDriver(capabilities);
driver.get("www.facebook.com");
}
I've just been starting with selenium and just wrote down everything really quick to try it out in main class. I know it's not pretty. Please bear with me. What am I doing wrong?
You need to update your both selenium jars and update your chrome browser as well
I have included firebug when launching firefox driver and it works very fine with latest selenium web driver 3.0 but meanwhile it also opens new firebug tab every time when launching browser.
As code says, i have included firebug file and added this extension in created profile. Is there any way to close the firebug tab automatically after launching the browser? If there is no automatic way then i need to use tweak to close window named "Firebug" right?
Code:
File file = new File("./firebug-2.0.17-fx.xpi");
System.setProperty("webdriver.gecko.driver", config.getStringProperty("geckodriver.path"));
DesiredCapabilities capabilities = DesiredCapabilities.firefox();
FirefoxProfile profile = new FirefoxProfile();
profile.addExtension(file);
capabilities.setCapability(FirefoxDriver.PROFILE, profile);
capabilities.setCapability("marionette", true);
webDriver = new FirefoxDriver(capabilities);
You can set the "showFirstRunPage" flag to "false" in your porfile.
FirefoxProfile profile = new FirefoxProfile();
profile.setPreference("extensions.firebug.showFirstRunPage", false);
Here is a link to all firebug preferences you can set.
Firebug Preferences
An other solution is to set the "currentVersion" to a big number like this.
profile.setPreference("extensions.firebug.currentVersion", "999");
I prefer the first on ;)
I was looking for automatically closing Firebug window but i think its not possible so posting an answer to handle opened windows after launching firebox browser with firebug capabilities, unfortunately you need to deal with extra lines of code due to this issue :)
Below solution it works fine, just use it like below:
Working code:
File file = new File("./firebug-2.0.17-fx.xpi");
System.setProperty("webdriver.gecko.driver", config.getStringProperty("geckodriver.path"));
DesiredCapabilities capabilities = DesiredCapabilities.firefox();
FirefoxProfile profile = new FirefoxProfile();
profile.addExtension(file);
capabilities.setCapability(FirefoxDriver.PROFILE, profile);
capabilities.setCapability("marionette", true);
webDriver = new FirefoxDriver(capabilities);
// Close the firebug window
Thread.sleep(4000); // Firebug window takes time to open it
Set <String> windows = webDriver.getWindowHandles();
String mainwindow = webDriver.getWindowHandle();
for (String handle: windows) {
webDriver.switchTo().window(handle);
if (!handle.equals(mainwindow)) {
webDriver.close();
}
}
webDriver.switchTo().window(mainwindow);
