SQL Query calculating two additional columns - sql

I have a table which gets populated daily with database size. I need to modify the query where I can calculate daily growth and weekly growth.

I would like to add two additional columns which would be
Daily Growth (DB_SIZE sysdate - DB_SIZE (sysdate -1))
Weekly Growth (DB_SIZE sysdate - DB_SIZE (sysdate -7))
Need some help constructing the SQL for those two additional columns. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

One option is to use LAG analytic function to calculate daily growth and correlated subquery (within the SELECT statement) for weekly growth.
For example:

If you don't have a snapshot each day, you can handle this with a window frame:

If there is always is one record per day, you can use lag():

This actually looks 1 row back and 7 rows back. If there are missing dates, or multiple records per day, then you could average the snap size by day, and use a window range in the window function:

If you want the results for the last 3 days only, you can turn any of the two above queries to subqueries, and filter in the outer query:

Oracle date as fraction of month

I would like to get a table of months between two dates with a fraction of each month that the two dates cover.
For example with a start date of 15/01/2017 and end date of 01/03/2017 it would output:
01/2017 : 0.5483..
02/2017 : 1
03/2017: 0.0322..
where for January and March the calculations are 17/31 and 1/31 respectively. I currently have the query:

This outputs each month between two dates and formats it to the start of the month. I just need another column to give me the fraction the start and end dates cover. I'm not sure of a way to do this without it getting messy.
The months_between() function "calculates the fractional portion of the result based on a 31-day month". That means that if your range starts or ends in a month that doesn't have 31 days, the fraction you get might not be quite what you expect:
select months_between(date '2017-04-02', date '2017-04-01') as calc from dual

... which is 1/31, not 1/30. To get 0.0333... instead you'd need to calculate the number of days in each month, at least for the first and last month. This uses a recursive CTE (11gR2+) to get the months, using a couple of date ranges provided by another CTE as a demo to show the difference (you can use a hierarchical query too of course):

The first CTE ranges is just the demo data. The second, recursive, CTE months generates the start and number of days in each month, while keeping track of the original range dates too. The final query just calculates the fractions based on the number of days in the month in the range against the number of days in that month overall.
The month_days and range_days are only shown in the output so you can see what the calculation is based on, you can obviously omit those from your actual result, and format the month start date however you want.
With your original single pair of bind variables the equivalent would be:

Get rows from current month if older is not available

I have a table that looks like this:

I'm looking for a query (sql statement) which satisfies the following conditions:
Give me the value of the previous month.
If there is no value for the previous month lock back in time until one can be found.
If there is just a value for the current month give me this value.

I guess you have some id in table so put id column instead of HERE_PUT_ID if you want query for whole table just delete: partition by HERE_PUT_ID
I added more data for testing, and an "id" column (a more realistic scenario) to show how this would work. If there is no "id" in your data, simply delete any reference to it from the solution.
Notes - month is a reserved Oracle word, don't use it as a column name. The solution assumes the date column contains dates that are already truncated to the beginning of the month. The trick in "order by" in the dense_rank last is to assign a value (ANY value!) when the month is the current month; by default, the value assigned to all other months is NULL, which by default come after any non-null value in an ascending order.
You may want to test the various solutions for efficiency if execution time is important.

How can I generate 4-week ranges of dates?

I have to generate date range for 1 year in gap of 4 weeks ( or 28 days ) from a fixed date backward and going forward. For example I have DATE '2016-02-20'. I need to generate the below.
Start date = Sunday , End-date = Saturday
No Start_date End_date

It seems you want to have a rolling window of a year's worth of four-week ranges, based from the current date. To do that you need a fixed known period start (or end) date you can work from. Picking one that happens to be January 1st you can do:

Which will find 54 periods up to today. On March 21st it will find 55 periods, etc. You only want those that are in the last year, so use that as an inline view and restrict the range:

The ROW_NUMBER() just generates your NO column, as the LEVEL is now in the wrong order.
If you always want exactly 14 rows in the result set you can move the ROW_NUMBER() into the inline view:

I am using this code to calculate the difference between two dates ignoring weekends:

I have another table called table1 in which the column "date" exists (its type is "DATE") in which all dates where a holiday is are written down.
Example table 1:

I am trying to make my code check this table and that if one date is between the two dates above it makes -1 day in the output.
It should be easy if you divide it into following tasks:
Generate all the dates between the two given dates using Row Generator method as shown here.
Ignore the dates which are weekend, i.e. Saturdays and Sundays
Check whether the dates in the range are having any match in the holiday table.
The following row generator query will give you the total count of weekdays, i.e. not including Saturdays and Sundays:

Now, based on above row generator query, let's see a test case.
The following query will calculate the count of working days between 1st Jan 2014 and 31st Dec 2014 excluding the holidays as mentioned in the table.
The WITH clause is only to use it as tables, in your case you can simply use your holiday table.
