Within JetBrains tutorial is this info regarding creating new Kotlin project
But I can see only this --> i.e. without Project Template
Both the Idea and tutorial is for IntelliJ 2020.2 (I use Community Edition, but I did not find any note regarding different tutorials for different editions)
I am probably missing something... but don't know what
edit:
I would say that I have Kotlin plugin installed
Upgrade the Kotlin Plugin in IntelliJ IDEA to version 1.4. The new project wizard has been introduced in Kotlin 1.4.

I am trying to run a project with aspectJ, rather than Java, in IntelliJ IDEA. I had done it before by simply putting "aspectj-1.9.6" in a "Lib" folder and setting the folder "as Library". But I tried it again today and it is not working. I think it might be because I have updated my IntelliJ to version "2022.2.3". I saw in this link that for intelliJ version "2021.1", one should select "ajc" as the project compiler in IntellJ. But it seems that there is no such compiler option in IntelliJ version "2022.2" (as I looked at this link and also searched in this link).
I also tried to install and enable "AspectJ weaver" plugin, but I encounter the following error: "Plugin 'AspectJ weaver' failed to initialize and will be disabled. Please restart IntelliJ IDEA.". Someone has had the same problem in this post, but the answer doesn't work for me, as it refers to this link, which is not compatible with IntelliJ version 2022.2.3:
So, I wonder whether aspectJ is not supported any more in IntelliJ?
Does any one has any suggestion that I could use it with this version of IntelliJ? I do really appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance
IntelliJ IDEA is compatible with AspectJ. I am running the plugin on 2022.2.3 without any problems. But I use IDEA Ultimate, you use Community. Did you notice this in your screenshot?
Compatible with IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate
I'm trying to create a new Karate project in IntelliJ, and am attempting to add an archetype to the Maven list. However, when I enter all the required fields, the window just disappears and the list of archetypes is unchanged. I've found that this is the same for any value I enter into the fields, not just the ones for the specific archetype I am trying to create. How can I avoid this problem?
I have no idea, this is the first time I've heard of this problem. It will be great if you can contribute research or code to fix this, and I'll gladly take requests to update the documentation.
As a workaround, I suggest you create a project using the maven command-line as described here: https://github.com/karatelabs/karate#quickstart
I was able to add the karate archetype by using an older version of IntelliJ. The older version I have tried is IntelliJ Community Version 2021.1.3
you can find it and download it here based on your Operating System.
https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/other.html
After that, I just added the karate archetype into that version 2021.1.3 IntelliJ.
Then launch the latest IntelliJ.
If you were to make a new Project, with karate Archetype, on the latest version of IntelliJ that I have now IntelliJ Community Version 2021.2.4 It won't be shown there. Although the project is running on karate.
i want to create a kotlin mp project in intellij idea 2019.3 Community, but the options i see in new project window for kotlin are just jvm|idea and js|idea.
In several articles there are options like mobile shared library | gradle, present even for older versions oj IJIdea.
I already have kotlin in another project, as part of a maven project
any hints?
Make sure you have latest Kotlin plugin installed and Gradle bundled plugin enabled.
See these steps about creating Kotlin MPP project.
gradle plugin was enabled, but still something smelled, so after some time spent enabling/disabling plugins, i decided to enable android support plugin - then after restart idea complained that gradle-java plugin is not enabled, after enabling that (from the error tab link, not the plugin management window in preferences) - the options to create various gradle projects appeared, including the ones for kotlin/multiplatform
Problem
I'm trying to create a Play 2.3.1 framework, because the lack of info on how to get started with 2.4.3. So much has changed apparently that the tutorials on youtube is useless and I can't get it to work.
Question
How do I do this?
I have tried to go to https://www.playframework.com/download#older-versions but all versions yield the same link to https://downloads.typesafe.com/typesafe-activator/1.3.6/typesafe-activator-1.3.6-minimal.zip
which installs the newest playframework 2.4.3.
Please say that someone knows how to do this?
Also, why should I bother using 2.4.3 > 2.3.1 if I'm only creating a simple mobile app w/database? Security reasons or just "easier"?
Same question for IntelliJ 14 > IntelliJ 13 ?
https://www.playframework.com/download#older-versions is the link you need.
When you're new to Play! it can be quite confusing so I think a bit of terminology is needed.
SBT - Scala build tool. This is a build tool that is baked into every Play! project but totally independent of Play! framework, ie. many Scala projects use this to manage their builds without ever using Play! It's just the Scala equivilient of a Maven, Gradle or Ant. Nothing special.
Activator - This is Play!'s commandline, like a build-tool++. It's commandline tool with a superset of the SBT commands clean compile etc etc, with Play! specific ones like 'new', 'run'. It actually just amounts to not much more than a script (.sh/.bat) which bootstraps SBT and some extra goodness for running play commands. In earlier versions like 1.x this command was named play. Version 2.x was a practically a re-write so you can ignore all related advice.
Play - the playframework itself is just a regular jar (and all its dependencies). It is declared in the project/plugins.sbt
So the reason all the download links point to activator-1.3.6 is because that is just the version of the commandline tool. This will default to latest: 2.4.x.
When you perform an activator new you get a choice of templates. If you REALLY REALLY want to use 2.3.x you could choose this template when prompted hello-play-2_3-scala.
But I don't suggest you do that because:
The documentation for 2.4.x is comprehensive and there are walkthrough guides, it won't take any longer than a youtube video.
There are bug fixes and new features in 2.4.x
2.4.x introduced dependency injection which means it will be harder to upgrade once you'ved developed everything in 2.3x.
Apart from dependency injection most stuff works the same in 2.4.x
Intellij:
Use 14. Play support is improving all the time. If you can use the Early Access Program and the latest version of the Scala plugin.
Don't run 'activator idea' - this is deprecated. File -> open project from Intellij should be enough.
I wanted to play a little bit with the dart language and since recently I'm trying to switch from eclipse to IntelliJ IDEA I wanted to use that IDE. Unfortunately I can't figure out how I can create new dart project.
I've installed the dart plugin and installation looks fine - I have the plugin directory on my hard drive, dart's formatting options in settings etc. But I don't have any dart related option in the new project dialog (only java, maven, gradle, empty project etc.).
All resources I found told about using the new project dialog, or using WebStorm (like https://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/WI/Getting+started+with+Dart ).
Is it possible at all? Am I missing something?
I'm using IntelliJ IDEA 13.1.5 community edition.
EDIT:
Ticket created: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-14060
I recommend using Stagehand (http://stagehand.pub/). It's a great new command-line tool that creates well-formed Dart project folders, complete with pubspec.yaml and even build.dart for Polymer projects. The tool can create console apps, web apps, Polymer apps, and AngularDart apps.
It looks that there is a bug in community edition of 13.1.x and it won't be fixed (but it's already fixed in community edition version 14 and it works in any version of ultimate edition) - https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WEB-14060
