Vue v-if v-if-else time complexity - vue.js

I'm doing a project vue and I wanted to know if vue v-if v-else-if time complexity is O(n) or O(1)
I'm using a component in vue like a switch case (takes input and returns html) something like
<div v-if="type === 'A'">
<!-- HTML Data -->
</div>
<div v-else-if="type === 'B'">
<!-- HTML Data -->
</div>
<div v-else-if="type === 'C'">
<!-- HTML Data -->
</div>
<div v-else>
<!-- HTML Data -->
</div>
but with a lot more cases.
Is that the recommended way to do something like this? or should I make a lot of small component and load them dynamically? which is O(1)
And the reason I have this component is that it takes in a string input and returns a custom icon for a data that can be changed, so they have to be loaded dynamically

I think it's better to create a type/value map and a computed property:
new Vue({
el:"#app",
data(){
return{
type: 'A',
types: {A:'A',B:'B',C:'C'}
}
},
computed:{
typeVal(){
return this.types[this.type];
}
}
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/vue/2.5.17/vue.js"></script>
<div id="app">
{{typeVal}}
</div>

VUE - load component only if slot exist

I would like to load a component into a slot only if the slot exists (because I don't want to waste resources creating and mounting the component).
So I did it like that:
Test.vue
<slot :load="true" name="slotNo1"/
Wrapper.vue
<template slot="slotNo1" slot-scope="{ load }"> <Test v-if="load" /> </template>
But I wonder if there is an easier way without having to create the "load" variable.
Refer this
Vue.component('Custom', {
template: `
<div>
<span>always displayed</span>
<strong v-if="hasSlotData">
displayed only when slot passed: <slot></slot>
</strong>
</div>
`,
computed: {
hasSlotData() {
return this.$slots.default;
}
}
});
new Vue({
el: '#root'
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/vue/2.5.17/vue.js"></script>
<div id="root">
<custom></custom>
<custom>content</custom>
</div>

Vue: toggling between two instances of the same component doesn't update the view

I have a setup in a Vue-powered UI, where the user can toggle the contents of a certain div between several options, and two of those options happen to be instances of the same child component (with different properties passed in).
Everything works fine when displaying any given content page for the first time, or when toggling between two unrelated content pages. However when toggling between the two pages which both use the same child component, the div content doesn't get updated.
In code it looks (greatly simplified) like this:
Parent component
<template>
<div>
<!-- toggle buttons -->
<div class="page-button" #click="page=1">About</div>
<div class="page-button" #click="page=2">Dog List</div>
<div class="page-button" #click="page=3">Cat List</div>
<!-- page content -->
<div v-if="page===1">some plaintext here...</div>
<div v-if="page===2">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="dogs" />
</div>
<div v-if="page===3">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="cats" />
</div>
<!-- rest of file omitted -->
childComponent.vue
<template>
<div>
<template v-for="(item, index) in items">
<div>{{ index }}: {{ item.label }}</div>
<!-- etc.. -->
</template>
</div>
</template>
<script>
module.exports = {
props: ['state', 'listName'],
data: function () {
return {
items: this.state.lists[this.listName],
}
},
}
</script>
In the above, state is a global state object that all components have access to, with state.lists.dogs and state.lists.cats being regular arrays.
When the UI initializes with page set to 2 or 3, everything works correctly - the dog list shows for page 2, and the cat list shows for page 3. Likewise, when I click page 2, then page 1, then page 3, everything is fine. However when toggling back and forth between page 2/3, the vue doesn't re-render the child component.
I assume it's possible to work around this by changing the underlying data structure or by binding the child component differently. But is there a straightforward way to make Vue re-render the component as expected?
I guess what you see is Vue trying to optimize rendering by reusing existing component instance. Add key attribute on your childComponent with different values...
<!-- page content -->
<div v-if="page===1">some plaintext here...</div>
<div v-if="page===2">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="dogs" key="dogs" />
</div>
<div v-if="page===3">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="cats" key="cats" />
</div>
<!-- rest of file omitted -->
Other solution (and much better IMHO) is to make your component "reactive" to prop changes - instead of using props to initialize the data() (which is "one time" thing - data() is executed only once when component is created), use computed
module.exports = {
props: ['state', 'listName'],
computed: {
items() {
return this.state.lists[this.listName]
}
},
}
You can use v-show if you just want to render it before hand. Its more costly but it should work without any issues.
<template>
<div>
<!-- toggle buttons -->
<div class="page-button" #click="page=1">About</div>
<div class="page-button" #click="page=2">Dog List</div>
<div class="page-button" #click="page=3">Cat List</div>
<!-- page content -->
<div v-show="page===1">some plaintext here...</div>
<div v-show="page===2">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="dogs" />
</div>
<div v-show="page===3">
<childComponent :state="state" listName="cats" />
</div>
<!-- rest of file omitted -->

Vue.js and Bootstrap Modal - Invoking JS

Trying to implement the bootstrap-datepicker in conjunction with Vue, and not quite sure why my solution won't work.
I am using the code example at https://eonasdan.github.io/bootstrap-datetimepicker/
I added a v-on:click on the INPUT that then ties to a method.
TEMPLATE CODE:
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class='col-sm-6'>
<div class="form-group">
<div class='input-group date' id='datetimepicker1'>
<input v-on:click="displayCal" type='text' class="form-control" />
<span class="input-group-addon">
<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-calendar"></span>
</span>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
VUE
import jquery from 'jquery';
....
methods: {
displayCal: function () {
jquery('#datetimepicker1').datetimepicker();
}
}
Will that help with what I'm trying to do?
Not exactly, I misunderstood and thought that the datepicker is a bootstrap component. Unfortunately it is not, and so while vue implementation of bootstrap could be helpful, it would leave you still with quite a bit to implement yourself.
Option 1
Use a Vue component that has the functionality out of the box
const app = new Vue({
el: '#app',
components: {
vuejsDatepicker
}
})
<div id="app">
<vuejs-datepicker></vuejs-datepicker>
</div>
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vue"></script>
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vuejs-datepicker"></script>
Demo: https://codesandbox.io/s/mpklq49wp
If that does what you need then vuejs-datepicker component may be better for you to implement.
Option 2
Get jquery and Vue to talk
This is not ideal, because the two libraries will compete for DOM control. Vue mounts and unmounts of DOM elements are data driven. That means if your data changes, your DOM may replace an element that jquery may be relying on. SO you may be able to get it to work, but based on all the other stuff going on in the app, you may find some odd things happening, that said, here is a way you can do it...
<div id="app">
<div class="container">
<p>
TIMEDATE: {{timedate}}
</p>
<div class="row">
<div class='col-sm-6'>
<input type='text' class="form-control" id='datetimepicker4' />
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
const app = new Vue({
el: '#app',
data(){
return{
timedate: new Date(),
}
},
methods:{
onUpdate(e){
this.timedate=e.date;
}
},
mounted() {
const dp = $('#datetimepicker4')
dp.datetimepicker({
defaultDate: this.timedate,
});
dp.on('dp.change', this.onUpdate )
}
})
demo: https://jsfiddle.net/fjk6cLo8/7/
This code will allow you to add the datetime picker with a preset date. Upon change of the date, using the datetime picker, the data will be updated in the vue component (using dp.change listener)
The datetime picker is mounted once right after the component mounts, and the <input type='text' class="form-control" id='datetimepicker4' /> element is available.

vue: v-else does not completely show context

I am new to Vue. When I use v-if, v-else-if, and v-else, the first two tags work well. But for v-else, it only change the context in {{}}.
html:
<div id="app">
<div v-if="isIf === 1">
isIf is 1:{{isIf}}
</div>
<div v-else-if="2">
isIf is 2:{{isIf}}
</div>
<div v-else>
isIf is not 1 or 2:{{isIf}}
</div>
</div>
js:
<script>
var app = new Vue({
el: '#app',
data: {
isIf: 1,
isShow: false
}
});
</script>
when I change the app.isIf=3 in console, it showed isIf is 2: 3. My last try is app.isIf=2, so it showed the context with last input. Any idea?
Your v-else-if condition is wrong - instead of
<div v-else-if="2">
it should be
<div v-else-if="isIf === 2">
Except for zero, any numerical value will be considered "true" in Javascripts. So your render logic is always around "v-if" and "v-else-if", it never reaches "v-else"

vuejs render part of template inside different elements without repeating

I am new to Vuejs. This is what I need to do.
<div v-for="r in records">
<div v-if="r.something">
<div id="x">
{{ r. something}}
more of r here.
</div>
</div>
<div v-else id="x">
same div as in the block above.
</div>
</div>
What I want do is not define div with id x two times as it is huge.
Make your 'div' a component and refer to it in both places.
There are many ways to define your component. This is example shows just one. If you are using WebPack, use a single file component. You can then have your script, html, and css all in one file that gets precompiled. That's the best way to manage your 'huge' div. Then you can continue to refactor and break it up into more components.
const myComponent = {
template: "<div :id='id'>HELLO, my id is {{id}}. r.foo is {{r.foo}} </div>",
props: {
id: String
},
data() {
return {
r: {
foo: 'bar'
}
}
}
}
<div v-for="r in records">
<div v-if="r.something">
<my-component id='x' />
</div>
<div v-else id="x">
<my-component id='x' />
</div>
</div>
