I have a strange behavior of intellij.
It is constantly trying to reindex my project, as soon as i focus a src file like *.java.
This happens for any project. Even if i have a new project with a single src file.
I have resetted it to manufacturer state and it still tries to reindex.
I am on Ubuntu 18.04

It is known issue: IDEA-247322. The workaround is to disable Preferences | Editor | Inspections | Java | Probable bugs | Magic Constant inspection.
UPD: It is fixed with the 2020.2.3 IDE update.
I found the issue, but i cannot explain it to myself.
I installed intellij over snap. This installation (not the settings) itself was causing this. This was reproducable by reinstalling over snap.
If i install the same build of intellij without snap, the issue does not occur.

I am on the latest version of ubuntu, and have tried deleting the .gradle folder, invalidating caches, and re-downloading the project.
Thank You for helping
I got it fixed, I had my system java version set to java 17, rather than java 8. after I changed the alternate and deleted my .gradle folder it worked
As of today, when I try to run some of my programs in IntelliJ today, this message was shown:

This line is printed in red: Module 'Listen' production: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/intellij/DynamicBundle
I don't really have too much of an idea where I should look for the problem.
It seems to not have anything to do with the project itself. I already created a new Project and created a Hello World-program, which resulted in the same error.
Remarkably, yesterday my IntelliJ IDEA version was updated to version 2022.1.
Runtime version: 11.0.14.1+1-b2043.25 amd64
VM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o.
I have no idea either whether it has anything to do with the new version either.
I maintain another Project, which uses Scala language. That one is messed up even more:

I had the same problem after upgrading to Intellij 2022.1
For me, the fix came from Gen's answer. I also had an old Scala plugin, and just removed it as I'm not using it anymore.
If you are looking to upgrade it, go to File -> Settings -> Plugins. From there just hit Upgrade for the plugins you want. After that restart the IDE.
I found that Scala plugin was not updated and updating it to at least version 2022.1.13 fixed it for me.
I upgraded to Intellij 2022.1 and encountered this issue when trying to sync the old gradles projects that used to work for me :
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/gradle/internal/impldep/com/google/common/collect/Lists
Cleaning the caches folder's content (Gradle_HOME/caches) resolved this issue for me
Make sure to also check that the SDK is correctly configured for your project (Java 17 by default) and the Gradle home is well specified in the Settings>Gradle section.
For info, I'm using Java 8 and Gradle 5.5.1 (yes I know :))
Just upgrade the Scala Plugin and its done!
visiting
scala plugin's page
and install it from there worked for me on ultimate version 2022.2.3
Here is an attempt to open an sbt project in Intellij 2016.3 ultimate:

That path truly does not exist. So I went to Preferences | Build Execution Deployment | SBT to fix the path:

Let' update the path:
However the same error message still occurs. Is there some other place in Intellij that needs to be updated?
The following happened when trying to import an sbt project:
The following dialog has a Show Logs link but clicking on it does nothing ..
Another update I opened the idea.log manually. It shows basically same information:

I have repeatedly tried changing the sbt launch settings. The error still occurs. Intellij is caching that information somewhere. I've even deleted the .idea and .iml files. Same result. Now I have reinstalled Intellij . Still same issue! What the heck !!!???
For Launcher, in preference window, pick "Bundled" option instead of custom.
I am having issues with my Intellij set up. I am able to build successfully from the command line, but when I try to refresh my build file it never completes and just says 'Gradle project sync in progress...'. When I tail the logs, I get this:

If you want to use v0.13 of the Android Gradle plugin at the time of this writing, you should use Android Studio 0.8.11 or later. While IntelliJ has the Android plugin built-in, it doesn't update as often and isn't the latest version, and support for 0.13 of the Gradle plugin was added very recently.
I am moving a simple web application from Jboss 4.3 to Jboss 6 EAP (Jboss AS 7.2). However, I am unable to deploy the war because of the error

I am not sure what needs to be done. The Spring libraries the war file uses is version 2.5.5 and is bundled within the war 0 within the WEB-INF/lib directory.
Any help in resolving my problem, would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I was able to solve this issue. Would like to share with others, in case they run into the same issue. The war file we were using had Spring libraries and was included within the war file.
The problem was with the versions of the spring.jar and spring-context.jar. The former was 2.0.3 but the latter was version 2.5.5. I downgraded the spring-context.jar to 2.0.3 and it did the trick.
Not sure, why there was no problem in Jboss 4.3. Anyway, I don't have the problem now.
I would like to add that this problem could persist - after clearing out the dependencies (using exclusions), there could still be a wrong version in the Eclipse classpath.
You can figure this out running f.ex. a test with two methods:
in Eclipse
using Maven
mvn clean test -Dtest=com.example.HelloTest
Compare error messages / the stack traces, they might be different, or the Maven test runs fine while in Eclipse the test fails.
