PLSQL same data with different dates from same table - sql

I have a table in Oracle and I want to get difference of sums of debit and credit columns for sysdate and the same difference of sums of debit and credit columns from 6 months ago
My query is
select a.name,a.id, nvl(sum(a.debit),0)-nvl(sum(a.credit),0) current_bal
from mytable a
where a.id='1092' and a.docdate<=sysdate
group by a.name,a.id
union
select b.name,b.id,nvl(sum(b.debit),0)-nvl(sum(b.credit),0) current_bal1
from mytable b
where b. id='1092' and b.docdate<=add_months(sysdate,-6)
group by b.name,b.id;
I am getting the correct result but the query is returning two rows, where as my need is to show this result as a single row.
Any suggestions / correction in my query please.

You can use the conditional aggregation as follows:
select a.name,a.id, nvl(sum(CASE WHEN a.docdate<=sysdate THEN a.debit END),0)-nvl(sum(CASE WHEN a.docdate<=sysdate THEN a.credit END),0) current_bal,
nvl(sum(CASE WHEN b.docdate<=add_months(sysdate,-6) THEN a.debit END),0)-nvl(sum(CASE WHEN b.docdate<=add_months(sysdate,-6) THEN a.credit END),0) current_bal1
from mytable a
where a.id='1092'
group by a.name,a.id;
-- Update
If you are facing any issue then easiest way for you is to use the self join between sub-queries as follows:
SELECT A.NAME, A.ID, A.CURRENT_BAL, B.CURRENT_BAL1
FROM
(select a.name,a.id, nvl(sum(a.debit),0)-nvl(sum(a.credit),0) current_bal
from mytable a
where a.id='1092' and a.docdate<=sysdate
group by a.name,a.id) A
JOIN
(select b.name,b.id,nvl(sum(b.debit),0)-nvl(sum(b.credit),0) current_bal1
from mytable b
where b. id='1092' and b.docdate<=add_months(sysdate,-6)
group by b.name,b.id) B
ON A.ID = B.ID AND A.NAME = B.NAME;

You can use conditional aggregation:
select a.name, a.id,
coalesce(sum(a.debit), 0) - coalesce(sum(a.credit), 0) as current_bal,
(sum(case when a.docdate < add_months(sysdate, -6) then a.debit else 0 end) -
sum(case when a.docdate < add_months(sysdate, -6) then a.credit else 0 end)
) as bal_6_months
from mytable a
where a.id = '1092' and a.docdate <= sysdate
group by a.name, a.id;
This puts the two values in the same row. That seems more useful to me then having them in different rows.

Can you try:
select a.name,a.id, LISTAGG(nvl(sum(a.debit),0)-nvl(sum(a.credit),0), ' ') WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY a.id) current_bal
from mytable a
where a.id='1092' and a.docdate<=sysdate
group by a.name,a.id
union
select b.name,b.id, LISTAGG(nvl(sum(a.debit),0)-nvl(sum(a.credit),0), ' ') WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY a.id) current_bal
from mytable b
where b. id='1092' and b.docdate<=add_months(sysdate,-6)
group by b.name,b.id;

Error Aggregations of aggregations are not allowed

I'm wondering how to unbundle the AVG and SUM functions in this sample script to remove this error "Aggregations of aggregations are not allowed"

MSSQL Group by and Select rows from grouping

I'm trying to figure out if what I'm trying to do is possible. Instead of resorting to multiple queries on a table, I wanted to group the records by business date and id then group by the id and select one date for a field and another date for the other field.
SELECT
*
{AMOUNT FROM DATE}
{AMOUNT FROM OTHER DATE}
FROM (
SELECT
date,
id,
SUM(amount) AS amount
FROM
table
GROUP BY id, date
AS subquery
GROUP BY id
It seems that you're looking to do a pivot query. I usually use cross tabs for this. Based on the query you posted, it could look like:
SELECT
id,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20190901' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromSept01,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20191001' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromOct01
FROM (
SELECT
date,
id,
SUM(amount) AS amount
FROM
table
GROUP BY id, date
)AS subquery
GROUP BY id;
You could also use a CTE.
WITH CTE AS(
SELECT
date,
id,
SUM(amount) AS amount
FROM
table
GROUP BY id, date
)
SELECT
id,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20190901' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromSept01,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20191001' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromOct01
FROM CTE
GROUP BY id;
Or even be a rebel and do the operation directly.
SELECT
id,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20190901' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromSept01,
SUM(CASE WHEN date = '20191001' THEN amount ELSE 0 END) AmountFromOct01
FROM CTE
GROUP BY id;
However, some people have tested for performance and found that pre-aggregating can improve performance.
If I understand you correctly, then you're just trying to pivot, but only with two particular dates:
select id,
date1 = sum(iif(date = '2000-01-01', amount, null)),
date2 = sum(iif(date = '2000-01-02', amount, null))
from [table]
group by id

sorting month in ascending order

I have looked at related Qs on Stack.
I am trying to sort my query to display month in ascending order. A similar post on Stack said that I must indicate "ASC", but this doesn't work for me. I have written an Order By. I cannot figure out why it is not working.
SELECT DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate)) AS [Date]
FROM Submission
GROUP BY DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate)) ORDER BY [Date] ASC;
This is the output:
Month
August
February
September
Note: this is just a part of my query, I didnt think it would necessary to show the rest, which relates to other attributes from my table (Not month related)
Edit: This is my Entire Query: (The Initial One)
SELECT DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate)) AS [Date],
SUM( CASE WHEN Submission.Status='Under review' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) [Under_Review],
SUM( CASE WHEN Submission.Status='Accepted' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) [Accepted],
SUM( CASE WHEN Submission.Status='Rejected' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) [Rejected],
SUM( CASE WHEN Submission.Status='In print' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) [In_print],
SUM( CASE WHEN Submission.Status='Published' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) [Published]
FROM Submission INNER JOIN ((Faculty INNER JOIN School ON Faculty.FacultyID = School.[FacultyID]) INNER JOIN (Researcher INNER JOIN ResearcherSubmission ON Researcher.ResearcherID = ResearcherSubmission.ResearcherID) ON School.SchoolID = Researcher.SchoolID) ON Submission.SubmissionID = ResearcherSubmission.SubmissionID
GROUP BY DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate))
ORDER BY DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate));
SELECT DATENAME( MONTH, Submission.SubmissionDate) AS [Date]
FROM Submission
ORDER BY datepart(mm,Submission.SubmissionDate)
You don't need a group by (for the query shown). Also, when you order by month name it would return results in the alphabetical order of month name. You should not use previously defined aliases in the where,order by having and group by clauses.
Edit: The problem is with the join conditions. You should correct them as per the comments in line.
FROM Faculty
INNER JOIN School ON Faculty.FacultyID = School.[FacultyID]
INNER JOIN Researcher ON School.SchoolID = Researcher.SchoolID
INNER JOIN ResearcherSubmission ON Researcher.ResearcherID = ResearcherSubmission.ResearcherID
INNER JOIN SUBMISSION ON Submission.SubmissionID = ResearcherSubmission.SubmissionID
GROUP BY DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate))
ORDER BY DATEPART( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate))
A simple option is to add MONTH(Submission.SubmissionDate) to your group by clause, and order by that as well:
SELECT DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate)) AS [Date]
FROM Submission
GROUP BY MONTH(Submission.SubmissionDate), DATENAME( MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate))
ORDER BY MONTH(Submission.SubmissionDate)
This will work for your real query as well.
You can use MIN() or MAX():
SELECT DATENAME(MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate)) AS [Date]
FROM Submission
GROUP BY DATENAME(MONTH,(Submission.SubmissionDate))
ORDER BY MIN([Date]) ASC;
This chooses an arbitrary date from each group and orders by that.
By the way, you probably should care about the year as well as the month. If so:
SELECT YEAR(s.SubmissionDate), DATENAME(MONTH, s.SubmissionDate) AS [Date]
FROM Submission s
GROUP BY YEAR(s.SubmissionDate), DATENAME(MONTH, s.SubmissionDate)
ORDER BY MIN([Date]) ASC;

ORACLE SQL: Fill in missing dates

I have the following code which gives me production dates and production volumes for a thirty day period.
select
(case when trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)
then trunc(sysdate) else trunc(so.revised_due_date) end) due_date,
(case
when (case when sp.pr_typ in ('VV','VD') then 'DVD' when sp.pr_typ in ('RD','CD')
then 'CD' end) = 'CD'
and (case when so.tec_criteria in ('PI','MC')
then 'XX' else so.tec_criteria end) = 'OF'
then sum(so.revised_qty_due)
end) CD_OF_VOLUME
from shop_order so
left join scm_prodtyp sp
on so.prodtyp = sp.prodtyp
where so.order_type = 'MD'
and so.plant = 'W'
and so.status_code between '4' and '8'
and trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)+30
group by trunc(so.revised_due_date), so.tec_criteria, sp.pr_typ
order by trunc(so.revised_due_date)
The problem I have is where there is a date with no production planned, the date wont appear on the report. Is there a way of filling in the missing dates.
i.e. the current report shows the following ...
DUE_DATE CD_OF_VOLUME
14/04/2015 35,267.00
15/04/2015 71,744.00
16/04/2015 20,268.00
17/04/2015 35,156.00
18/04/2015 74,395.00
19/04/2015 3,636.00
21/04/2015 5,522.00
22/04/2015 15,502.00
04/05/2015 10,082.00
Note: missing dates (20/04/2015, 23/04/2015 to 03/05/2015)
Range is always for a thirty day period from sysdate.
How do you fill in the missing dates?
Do you need some kind of calendar table?
Thanks
You can get the 30-day period from SYSDATE as follows (I assume you want to include SYSDATE?):
WITH mydates AS (
SELECT TRUNC(SYSDATE) - 1 + LEVEL AS due_date FROM dual
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 31
)
Then use the above to do a LEFT JOIN with your query (perhaps not a bad idea to put your query in a CTE as well):
WITH mydates AS (
SELECT TRUNC(SYSDATE) - 1 + LEVEL AS due_date FROM dual
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 31
), myorders AS (
select
(case when trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)
then trunc(sysdate) else trunc(so.revised_due_date) end) due_date,
(case
when (case when sp.pr_typ in ('VV','VD') then 'DVD' when sp.pr_typ in ('RD','CD')
then 'CD' end) = 'CD'
and (case when so.tec_criteria in ('PI','MC')
then 'XX' else so.tec_criteria end) = 'OF'
then sum(so.revised_qty_due)
end) CD_OF_VOLUME
from shop_order so
left join scm_prodtyp sp
on so.prodtyp = sp.prodtyp
where so.order_type = 'MD'
and so.plant = 'W'
and so.status_code between '4' and '8'
and trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)+30
group by trunc(so.revised_due_date), so.tec_criteria, sp.pr_typ
order by trunc(so.revised_due_date)
)
SELECT mydates.due_date, myorders.cd_of_volume
FROM mydates LEFT JOIN myorders
ON mydates.due_date = myorders.due_date;
If you want to show a zero on "missing" dates instead of a NULL, use COALESCE(myorders.cd_of_volume, 0) AS cd_of_volume above.
what you can do is this :
creating a new table with all the days you need .
WITH DAYS AS
(SELECT TRUNC(SYSDATE) - ROWNUM DDD
FROM ALL_OBJECTS
WHERE ROWNUM < 365)
SELECT
DAYS.DDD
FROM
DAYS;
then full outer join between thoes table :
select DUE_DATE , CD_OF_VOLUME , DDD
from (
select
(case when trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)
then trunc(sysdate) else trunc(so.revised_due_date) end) due_date,
(case
when (case when sp.pr_typ in ('VV','VD') then 'DVD' when sp.pr_typ in ('RD','CD')
then 'CD' end) = 'CD'
and (case when so.tec_criteria in ('PI','MC')
then 'XX' else so.tec_criteria end) = 'OF'
then sum(so.revised_qty_due)
end) CD_OF_VOLUME
from shop_order so
left join scm_prodtyp sp
on so.prodtyp = sp.prodtyp
where so.order_type = 'MD'
and so.plant = 'W'
and so.status_code between '4' and '8'
and trunc(so.revised_due_date) <= trunc(sysdate)+30
group by trunc(so.revised_due_date), so.tec_criteria, sp.pr_typ
order by trunc(so.revised_due_date)
) full outer join NEW_TABLE new on ( new .DDD = DUE_DATE )
where new .DDD between /* */ AND /* */ /* pick your own limit) */
you can get the gaps by using connect by and a left join:
assuming your schema is:
create table tbl(DUE_DATE date, CD_OF_VOLUME float);
insert into tbl values(to_date('14/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),35267.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('15/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),71744.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('16/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),20268.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('17/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),35156.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('18/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),74395.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('19/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),3636.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('21/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),5522.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('22/04/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),15502.00);
insert into tbl values(to_date('04/05/2015','DD/MM/YYYY'),10082.00);
you can say:
with cte as
(
select (select min(DUE_DATE)-1 from tbl)+ level as dt
from dual
connect by level <= (select max(DUE_DATE)-min(DUE_DATE) from tbl)
)
select to_char(c.dt,'DD/MM/YYYY') gap,null volume
from cte c
left join tbl t on c.dt=t.DUE_DATE
where t.DUE_DATE is null
order by c.dt
Result:
GAP VOLUME
20/04/2015 (null)
23/04/2015 (null)
24/04/2015 (null)
25/04/2015 (null)
26/04/2015 (null)
27/04/2015 (null)
28/04/2015 (null)
29/04/2015 (null)
30/04/2015 (null)
01/05/2015 (null)
02/05/2015 (null)
03/05/2015 (null)
Notice: you can implement this in your original query, one simplest way is to wrap your query and use it as a subquery instead of tbl in above code snippet.

SQL - Inserting a condition in a GROUP BY

My issue is that some of the records in the result set are excluded because they are missing a Min_Date or Max_Date or Both. I need these records to be included so that I can show the runner ran in the race even if he did not reach a First, Last or any checkpoint. Any direction is appreciated.
SELECT A.Date, A.RunnerName, A.Duplicates, A.TotalWaypointsReached,
B.FirstWaypoint, C.LastWaypoint, C.rDateTime as MostRecent
FROM (
SELECT RunnerName,
CONVERT(NVARCHAR(25), rDatetime, 101) AS Date,
Min(case when FirstWaypoint is null OR FirstWaypoint = '' then null else rDateTime end) MIN_DATE,
Max(case when LastWaypoint is null OR LastWaypoint = '' then null else rDateTime end) MAX_DATE,
--IF(I'm missing a Max_Date, Min_Date, or both after all records in a group. Add Max(rDateTime) and Min(rDateTime))
Count(*) AS Duplicates,
SUM(TotalWaypoints) as TotalWaypointsReached
FROM Race A
GROUP BY RunnerName, CONVERT(NVARCHAR(25), rDateTime, 101)
HAVING Count(*) > 1 ) A
LEFT JOIN Race B
on A.RunnerName = B.RunnerName
and A.MIN_DATE = B.rDateTime
LEFT JOIN Race C
on A.RunnerName = C.RunnerName
and A.MAX_DATE = C.rDatetime
I'm using the select statement via SQL command in Visual Studio 2008.
