I have the following 3 query statements:
sSQLSting1 = "SELECT * From Column1"
sSQLSting2 = "SELECT * From Column2"
sSQLSting3 = "SELECT * From Column3"
Edit: Column1 is the name of table1 but it's just a column.
I want to join them all into different columns of a new Datatable but when tried with:
sSQLSting1 & " Union " & sSQLSting2 & " Union " & sSQLSting3 , but the list returns only a column.
My desire result is to create a table that includes all of the above columns, so my question is:
can I do this with just one query statement or do I have to iterate and add data for each column? (i'm using c#).
Thanks a lot!
Perhaps this will help a bit
Again, there is NO GTD of the proper sequence. Also this assumes same number of rows in each table
Example
Select Col1 = A.SomeColumn
,Col2 = B.SomeColumn
,Col3 = C.SomeColumn
From ( Select SomeColumn,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column1 ) A
Join ( Select SomeColumn,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column2 ) B on A.RN=B.RN
Join ( Select SomeColumn,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column3 ) C on A.RN=C.RN
EDIT another option is a PIVOT
Select *
From (
Select Value=SomeColumn,Col=1,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column1
Union All
Select Value=SomeColumn,Col=2,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column2
Union All
Select Value=SomeColumn,Col=3,RN=row_number() over (order by SomeColumn ) from Column3
) src
Pivot (max(value) for Col in ([1],[2],[3]) ) pvt
This would probably be simplest to do on the client side:
for(int x = 1; x < dts.Length; x++){
dts[0].Columns.Add(dts[x].Columns[0].ColumnName);
for(int y = 0; y < dts[x].Rows.Count; y++)
dts[0].Rows[y][x] = dts[x].Rows[y][0];
}
It'll handle any number of datatables in an array (called dts) - change Length to Coubt if it's a list etc
All columns names must be unique (yours are) - Logic can be added to append something to the name to make it unique
All data is copied into the first table in the array
If your columns are other than string you can add the type of the new column added to dts[0] by taking the type of dts[x].Columns[0]

I'm trying to get a number of count for exist and non-exist for my validation to insert my data. As refer to the image below, I'm inserting 3 data in which 1 data consist of same ID number as destination table, 1 data consist of same quotation number as destination table and the last data is a new entry.
Okay here's my requirement. I am sending my source table data to insert into the dest table. So before inserting, I want to do validation by mapping the entire dest table like this:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sourceTable WHERE exists(
SELECT * FROM sourceTable WHERE QuotationId IN
(SELECT A.QuotationId FROM sourceTable A
JOIN DestTable B ON A.QuotationId = B.QuotationId
JOIN DestTable C ON A.QuotationNum = C.QuotationNum)
Without further details on table structure and so on it's difficult to tell, but something like the following might do the trick:
WITH cteMatch AS(
SELECT s.QuotationID AS src, d.QuotationID as dst
FROM sourceTable s
LEFT JOIN destTable d
)
SELECT CASE WHEN dst IS NULL THEN N'NonExist' ELSE N'Exist' END AS ValExist, COUNT(*) cnt
FROM cteMatch
GROUP BY CASE WHEN dst IS NULL THEN N'NonExist' ELSE N'Exist' END
You seem to want:
select count(*)
from sourcetable s
where exists(
select 1
from desttable d
where d.quotationid = s.quotationid or d.quotationnum = s.quotationnum
)
This counts how many rows in the source table have a quotation id or num that exists in the target table. If you want the count of both existing and non-existing rows, I would recommend:
select sum(flag) as cnt_exists, sum(1 - flag) as cnt_not_exists
from (
select
case when exists (
select 1
from desttable d
where d.quotationid = s.quotationid or d.quotationnum = s.quotationnum
) then 1 else 0 end as flag
from sourcetable s
) t
I have a table and lets say the table has items with the item numbers:
12345
12345_DDM
345653
2345664
45567
45567_DDM
I am having trouble creating a query that will get all of the _DDM and the corresponding item that has the same prefix digits.
So in this case I'd want both 12345 and 12345_DDM etc to be returned
Use like to find rows with _DDM.
Use EXISTS to find rows with numbers also having a _DDM row.
working demo
select *
from tablename t1
where columnname LIKE '%_DDM'
or exists (select 1 from tablename t2
where t1.columnname + '_DDM' = t2.columnname)
Try this query:
--sample data
;with tbl as (
select col from (values ('12345'),('12345_DDM'),('345653'),('2345664'), ('45567'),('45567_DDM')) A(col)
)
--select query
select col from (
select col,
prefix,
max(case when charindex('_DDM', col) > 0 then 1 else 0 end) over (partition by prefix) [prefixGroupWith_DDM]
from (
select col,
case when charindex('_DDM', col) - 1 > 0 then substring(col, 1, charindex('_DDM', col) - 1) else col end [prefix]
from tbl
) a
) a where [prefixGroupWith_DDM] = 1
I am using DB 2 and i am trying to write a query which checks multiple columns against a given set of values.Like field a, field b and field c against values x,y,z,f. One way that i can think for is writing same condition 3 times with or i.e. field a in ('x','y','z','f') or field b in .... and so on . Please let me know if there is some other efficient and easy way to accomplish this. I am looking for a query like if any of the condition is true return yes else no . Please suggest !
This may or may not work on as400:
create table a (a int not null, b int not null);
insert into a (a,b) values (1,1),(1,3),(2,3),(0,23);
select a.*
from a
where a in (1,2) or b in (1,2);
A B
----------- -----------
1 1
1 3
2 3
Rewriting as a join:
select a.*
from a
join ( values (1),(2) ) b (x)
on b.x in (a.a, a.b);
A B
----------- -----------
1 1
1 3
2 3
Assuming the column data types are the same, Create a subquery joining all the columns you want to search with your IN into one column with a union
SELECT *
FROM (
SELECT
YOUR_TABLE_PRIMARY_KEY
,A AS Col
FROM YOUR_TABLE
UNION ALL
SELECT
YOUR_TABLE_PRIMARY_KEY
,B AS Col
FROM YOUR_TABLE
UNION ALL
SELECT
YOUR_TABLE_PRIMARY_KEY
,C AS Col
FROM YOUR_TABLE
) AS SQ
WHERE
SQ.Col IN ('x','y','z','f')
Make sure to include the table key so you know which row the data refers to
You can create a regular expression that describe the set of characters and use it with xquery
Assuming you're on a supported version of the OS (tested on 7.1 TR6), this should work...
with sel (val) as (values ('x'),('y'),('f'))
select * from mytbl
where flda in (select val from sel)
or fldb in (select val from sel)
or fldc in (select val from sel)
Expanding on the above since your OP asked for "condition is true return yes else no"
Assuming you've got the key to a row to check, would 'yes' or the empty set be good enough? somekey is the key for the row you want to check.
with sel (val) as (values ('x'),('y'),('f'))
select 'yes' from mytbl
where thekey = somekey
and ( flda in (select val from sel)
or fldb in (select val from sel)
or fldc in (select val from sel)
)
It's actually rather difficult to return a value when you don't have a matching row. Here's one way. Note I've switch to 1=yes, 0=no..
with sel (val) as (values ('x'),('y'),('f'))
select 1 from mytbl
where thekey = somekey
and ( flda in (select val from sel)
or fldb in (select val from sel)
or fldc in (select val from sel)
)
UNION ALL
select 0
from sysibm.sysdummy1
order by 1 desc
fetch first row only
T-SQL query for finding first missing sequence string (prefix+no)
Sequence can have a prefix + a continuing no.
ex sequence will be
ID
-------
AUTO_500
AUTO_501
AUTO_502
AUTO_504
AUTO_505
AUTO_506
AUTO_507
AUTO_508
So above the missing sequence is AUTO_503 or if there is no missing sequence then it must return next sequence.
Also starting no is to specified ex. 500 in this case and prefix can be null i.e. no prefix only numbers as sequence.
You could LEFT JOIN the id numbers on shifted(+1) values to find gaps in sequential order:
SELECT
MIN(a.offsetnum) AS first_missing_num
FROM
(
SELECT 500 AS offsetnum
UNION
SELECT CAST(REPLACE(id, 'AUTO_', '') AS INT) + 1
FROM tbl
) a
LEFT JOIN
(SELECT CAST(REPLACE(id, 'AUTO_', '') AS INT) AS idnum FROM tbl) b ON a.offsetnum = b.idnum
WHERE
a.offsetnum >= 500 AND b.idnum IS NULL
SQLFiddle Demo
Using a recursive CTE to dynamically generate the sequence between the min and max of the ID Numbers maybe over complicated things a bit but it seems to work -
LIVE ON FIDDLE
CREATE TABLE tbl (
id VARCHAR(55)
);
INSERT INTO tbl VALUES
('AUTO_500'),
('AUTO_501'),
('AUTO_502'),
('AUTO_504'),
('AUTO_505'),
('AUTO_506'),
('AUTO_507'),
('AUTO_508'),
('509');
;WITH
data_cte(id)AS
(SELECT [id] = CAST(REPLACE(id, 'AUTO_', '') AS INT) FROM tbl)
,maxmin_cte(minId, maxId)AS
(SELECT [minId] = min(id),[maxId] = max(id) FROM data_cte)
,recursive_cte(n) AS
(
SELECT [minId] n from maxmin_cte
UNION ALL
SELECT (1 + n) n FROM recursive_cte WHERE n < (SELECT [maxId] from maxmin_cte)
)
SELECT x.n
FROM
recursive_cte x
LEFT OUTER JOIN data_cte y ON
x.n = y.id
WHERE y.id IS NULL
Check this solution.Here you just need to add identity column.
CREATE TABLE tbl (
id VARCHAR(55),
idn int identity(0,1)
);
INSERT INTO tbl VALUES
('AUTO_500'),
('AUTO_501'),
('AUTO_502'),
('AUTO_504'),
('AUTO_505'),
('AUTO_506'),
('AUTO_507'),
('AUTO_508'),
('509');
SELECT min(idn+500) FROM tbl where 'AUTO_'+cast((idn+500) as varchar)<>id
try this:
with cte as(
select cast(REPLACE(id,'AUTO_','') as int)-500+1 [diff],ROW_NUMBER()
over(order by cast(REPLACE(id,'AUTO_','') as int)) [rnk] from tbl)
select top 1 'AUTO_'+cast(500+rnk as varchar(50)) [ID] from cte
where [diff]=[rnk]
order by rnk desc

Had a similar situation, where we have R_Cds that were like this R01005
;with Active_R_CD (R_CD)
As
(
Select Distinct Cast(Replace(R_CD,'R', ' ') as Int)
from table
where stat = 1)
select Arc.R_CD + 1 as 'Gaps in R Code'
from Active_R_CD as Arc
left outer join Active_R_CD as r on ARC.R_CD + 1 = R.R_CD
where R.R_CD is null
order by 1
I have 2 two tables questionpool and question where question is a many to one of question pool. I have created a query using a sub select query which returns the correct random results but I need to return more than one column from the question table.
The intent of the query is to return a random test from the 'question' table for each 'QuizID' from the 'Question Pool' table.
SELECT QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID,
(
SELECT TOP (1) Question.QuestionPoolID
FROM Question
WHERE Question.GroupID = QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID
ORDER BY NEWID()
)
FROM QuestionPool
WHERE QuestionPool.QuizID = '5'
OUTER APPLY is suited to this:
Select *
FROM QuestionPool
OUTER APPLY
(
SELECT TOP 1 *
FROM Question
WHERE Question.GroupID = QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID
ORDER BY NEWID()
) x
WHERE QuestionPool.QuizID = '5'
Another example of OUTER APPLY use http://www.ienablemuch.com/2012/04/outer-apply-walkthrough.html
Live test: http://www.sqlfiddle.com/#!3/d8afc/1
create table m(i int, o varchar(10));
insert into m values
(1,'alpha'),(2,'beta'),(3,'delta');
create table x(i int, j varchar, k varchar(10));
insert into x values
(1,'a','hello'),
(1,'b','howdy'),
(2,'x','great'),
(2,'y','super'),
(3,'i','uber'),
(3,'j','neat'),
(3,'a','nice');
select m.*, '' as sep, r.*
from m
outer apply
(
select top 1 *
from x
where i = m.i
order by newid()
) r
Not familiar with SQL server, but I hope this would do:
Select QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID, v.QuestionPoolID, v.xxx -- etc
FROM QuestionPool
JOIN
(
SELECT TOP (1) *
FROM Question
WHERE Question.GroupID = QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID
ORDER BY NEWID()
) AS v ON v.QuestionPoolID = QuestionPool.QuestionPoolID
WHERE QuestionPool.QuizID = '5'
Your query appears to be bringing back an arbitrary Question.QuestionPoolId for each QuestionPool.QuestionPoolId subject to the QuizId filter.
I think the following query does this:
select qp.QuestionPoolId, max(q.QuestionPoolId) as any_QuestionPoolId
from Question q join
qp.QuestionPoolId qp
on q.GroupId = qp.QuestionPoolId
WHERE QuestionPool.QuizID = '5'
group by qp.QuestionPoolId
This returns a particular question.
The following query would allow you to get more fields:
select qp.QuestionPoolId, q.*
from (select q.*, row_number() over (partition by GroupId order by (select NULL)) as randrownum
from Question q
) join
(select qp.QuestionPoolId, max(QuetionPool qp
on q.GroupId = qp.QuestionPoolId
WHERE QuestionPool.QuizID = '5' and
randrownum = 1
This uses the row_number() to arbitrarily enumerate the rows. The "Select NULL" provides the random ordering (alternatively, you could use "order by GroupId".
Common Table Expressions (CTEs) are rather handy for this type of thing...
