I've made a new content page, but forgot to type the name.. So I deleted it an made it again with proper name..
I have done it like this multiple times already, but this time something went wrong and I cannot compile.
I have this error message:
Severity Code Description Project File Line Suppression State
Error IDE1100 Error reading content of source file
'C:\Users\shark\source\repos\GalShare\GalShare\GalShare\Views\Page1.xaml' -- 'Could not find file
'C:\Users\shark\source\repos\GalShare\GalShare\GalShare\Views\Page1.xaml'.'. GalShare-XamlProject
C:\Users\shark\source\repos\GalShare\GalShare\GalShare\Views\Page1.xaml 1 Active
I have done nothing except the steps above.. What is the cause of this error and how can I fix it?
Cleaning the project did not solve, but closing and reopening solved my problem.
In addition to the answers of E.Zhao and messyprogrames, here a step-by-step walkthrough.
Clean Solution:
Navigation Bar > "Build" > "Clean Solution"
Unload project:
Choose your "problem project" on the right side within the solution explorer. Right mouse click > "Unload Project"
Reload project:
Choose your unloaded "problem project" again. Right mouse click > "Reload Project".
Opening and closing the solution wasn't helping, but unloading and reloading the project worked.
Actually, it is unnecessary to exit and reopen current solution, try to clean the error project, unload and then reload it again. hope it works for you.
In VS click your initials > Account Settings > and check there's no warning there asking you to re-fresh your credentials. It was this for me. After I re-entered my credentials, cleaned and rebuilt all was fine.
Unloading and reloading the project worked for me.
To reproduce this, in a new folder add a WPF user control with a accidental typo.
Rename with F2 or simply rename,
the code behind doesn't rename, so change that.
Initalize component gets a good old red squiggly!
create a new one with an appended number as you want to crack on...
delete the user control that you originally created.
You will get this error (well I did on enterprise edition Version 16.7.2)
Then as other contributors have suggest, remove the pain by unloading and reloading the project.

So I am currently unable to open a Form and get the following error:
System.ComponenetModel.Design.ExceptionCollection was thrown.
or:
The designer loader did not provide a root component and has not indicated why
Usually the way to solve this is to open another instance of Visual Studio with the same project, attach the debugger to the other Visual Studio and try to open the form.
However, that does not seem to be working. The debugger does not break when the error is hit, and attempting to 'Break All' at any other point does not show me the source code and just the screen saying:
Your app has entered a break state, but there is no code because all threads were executing external code (typically system or framework code).
Attempting to put break points also results in:
The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document
Am I missing a setting? Incorrect Setup?
I have been battling this for half a day and thoroughly search the interwebs with no luck thus far. My designer is also fairly complex and lengthy which means trial and error is an absolute last ditch option.
First attempt to resolve:
you may have tried it already. Right click the Solution in solution explorer, click "clean solution", this deletes all the compiled and temporary files associated with a solution.
Do a rebuild of the solution and try to debug again.
Second attept to resolve:
Start debugging, as soon as you've arrived at a breakpoint or used
Debug > Break All, use Debug > Windows > Modules. You'll see a list of all the assemblies that are loaded into the process. Locate the one you want to get debug info for. Right-click it and select Symbol Load Information. You'll get a dialog that lists all the directories where it looked for the .pdb file for the assembly. Verify that list against the actual .pdb location. Make sure it doesn't find an old one.
In normal projects, the assembly and its .pdb file should always have been copied by the IDE into the same folder as your .exe. The bin\Debug folder of your project. Make sure you remove one from the GAC if you've been playing with it.
third attept to resolve:
Disable the "Just My Code" option in the Debug/General settings.
there are might be other causes to your problem, i picked them from here. you may try other solution to try resolve your issues. Fixing "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."
I accidentally uploaded an image to "My resources" which had the same name as another image in my resources and since then VB is showing up over 100 errors, but I don't know what I can do to resolve it and restore the program?
It's a very large program that I have been working on for months and really don't want to have to restart!
I have looked online and even found posts on here, but it doesn't work.
I have deleted the repeating image name, in my resources, but still doesn't resolve it. Whenever I go onto "My Project" > "Resources" it comes up with "There is already another resource with the name "Back_button."
But I removed it?
This is the error that comes up for all of the images/items that were in my resources:
"Beach_Text" is not a member of 'Top_of_the_Class.My.Resources'.
I also have a warning:
The designer cannot process the code at line 74: Me.btnInstructions.Image = Global.Top_of_the_Class.My.Resources.Resources.Instructions_button
The code within the method 'InitializeComponent' is generated by the designer and should not be manually modified. Please remove any changes and try opening the designer again.
I hope this makes sense and I know others have asked similar questions, but I have tried them methods. I just want my program back :(
Many thanks.
I had the same problem. I didn't wanted to restart my whole program and also I didn't used version control. If I went to the resources tab there was an error saying: There is already another resource with the name "Donkey_Kong". I pressed on ctrl-shift-F and searched for Donkey_kong and deleted every posible resource and code with the name Donkey_Kong in it. After I did that the error dissapeared and it was solved.
I had a picture with the name Donkey_Kong and a sound file with the name Donkey_Kong. Changed the names and continued :)
I had the same problem ("There is already another resource with the name "Salary")
Removed two lines of codes with the same resource name and
I went to Project--->Properties of my project--> went to resources tab and DELETED all files/images... with the same name "Salary" and the problem was fixed (All my codes were still there)
I recently have encountered a weird issue with my project: as soon as I click debug and it builds the project, it stops debugging. There isn't any error message, or anything else that comes up, including the form itself.
I've tried messing with the settings: no splash screen and I've even changed the startup form to a blank Windows form. What could be causing this problem? Is it Visual Studio or my code?
Probably your program is exiting normally. Set a breakpoint at the first statement to be executed, press F5, then single-step through the program until you get to the last statement executed.
If the first statement is never reached, then one of two things probably happened:
You're mistaken about which statement is executed first, or
The program is terminating during initialization, probably because a class constructor is exiting the program either normally or abnormally.
A few ideas:
Use Debug->Exceptions, and check all the checkboxes so you break when an exception is thrown.
Use Debug->Step into to step into your code.
Then you can use Step Over and Step Into (look at the menu for the keyboard shortcuts)
I found a solution, but not the problem.
How I fixed it:
I just created a template for each form, created a new project, and imported everything into the new project. One thing that I found useful is in the new project is to add an existing item (CTRL + D), and group select (maybe, don't know if you can) and select all the non-code/form/designer/etc. files (like text files or images) and then import them.
I have found a possible solution after I had the same problem.
You probably have more than one project in your solution (The main project, plus an "InstallShield" project",perhaps)
Make sure you have the main project set up as "Startup Project".
In the Solution Explorer, right click on the Main Project and select "Set as Startup Project".
Everything will then run OK.
If you get the error like: "The debug mode is program but there is no program specified....." Go to Solution Explorer then Right Click on main project's name and Click on Set as StartUp project. You can debug your program.
I am trying to debug my VB.net app in Visual Studio Express 2010, when I realized my changes will not update on my form-on the designer or in the code. After looking online, I found that you should clear out the "Debug" folder under the bin. That worked-for only one time. Now it went back to the older version and when I delete it again, it doesn't change. When I build the project and run it from the "Release" folder, it works perfectly, but when a error occurs at runtime, it won't show where the error is because it is running independently.
Thanks in advance.
(I have Windows XP SP3)
I had the same problem. Frustrating problem....? Close the project, go to debug bin/folder, delete these files, reopen project and rebuild it (F5).
- .exe
- .pdb
- .vshost.exe
- .vshost.exe.manifest
- .xml
it works 99.99%.......thanks
Before I'd create a new project, I'd copy all of the code-behind (including the code that creates the controls that you're not supposed to touch) into another form. That may be all you need to do. Try compiling that form and running it and see if it's good. If so, you won't have to create a whole new project and can just delete the old form.
I would think there's something causing this that would be much easier to to fix. Are there any config files or anything like that? Are you building to the right location?
It's been a while since I've done winforms, but I remember this happening in VS 2005 and I just created a new form and copied the code-behind into another winform and compiled.
Hope this helps.
mmm... if it was for me, with such a weird bug, i would create a new project then insert the files (not as a link, but a copy) in the project, and i most likely all will work fine after... Faster than finding where-the-hell is that wrong parameter...
So how do you do that ? Well create a new project, choose the folder and name, change namespace in settings if needed, then in project explorer Add existing item, then Browse and select your code and xaml (and other maybe) files. Let us know.
This happened to me as well. I believe the /bin and /obj folders of my application must've been locked for by some other application. Before manually deleting them I tried running Visual Studio as an administrator and did a Clean and a Rebuild which worked. If it doesn't work for you, try deleting the folders manually.
Close VS
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
Choose "Task Manager"
In the "Process" tab in "Task Manager" find your "ProjectName.EXE" and click "End Task"
Restart VS
I have the same problem, but i changed the solution config next to the start button from debug to release and that fixed my problem, try it :)
"Save all" works for me in VS 2010 VB, in Debug and Release mode.
I put the "Save all" icon next to the Run and Build icons.
First make sure your Localizable Property of you form is set to FALSE
I created a script in Outlook 2003 VBA that watches for new appointments, and sets them to tentative and no reminder as I create them. I find that seemingly at random, the VBA editor will open itself. It doesn't happen when I use the new script, but it did happen this morning when I un-hibernated my laptop, for example.
The editor doesn't pop up any runtime errors or highlight any lines in the script, it's just there as if I had pressed Alt-F11 to launch it. Sometimes I close other apps and see that it's been sitting back there for a while.
This behavior has only been occurring since I created this new script. Any ideas why this would occur?
As stated in, Microsoft Support Center:
"This problem occurs only if the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor window
is maximized."
Solution:
Un-Maximize Visual Basic Editor and close it.
And you are done!
If you have previously set breakpoints, it may be that you still have a phantom breakpoint. Try choosing "remove all breakpoints" and see if that clears the problem.
Check also that you have not chosen "Break on all errors" under options, and that your error handler is functioning properly.
Believe it or not, this is a known issue. Check out this MS Support link:

I have the same problem and found it while I was looking for a solution. Since it gives no advice, I kept searching and came across your post. I will come back with an update if I find a solution.
The MS page linked by Jaquez hints at the answer; just make sure you don't run the editor maximized, and the problem should go away. If you restore it to a non-maximized state, then resize it to take up the whole screen, it should remember its position.
It's a pain if you only have a small screen, but on a normal large monitor it works fine, and solved the problem for me.
I have the same problem, except that it only occurs when I've gone in and unlocked the VBA project for editing and haven't restarted Outlook. It seems to open up when I get a new email (that's when my VBA runs) so basically I just have to restart Outlook and lock the project back up.
Sorry I don't know what's really causing it, but locking the VBA project should fix the problem...
My solution was to search for the .otm file of my VBA project. It was stored under data\microsoft\outlook. I closed Outlook and deleted the .otm file. Restarted Outlook and it was solved.
Just wanted to add that I was running into a phantom breakpoint issue with VBA in excel. Clearing all breakpoints did not work for me, but I resolved it as follows: Copy all content from offending module into a text file. Delete module. Re-create module. Copy back in all text. Save. Phantom breakpoint gone.
