I have installed SSMS 18.4. In the Control Panel I see only this SSMS. But when I enter SQL Server Management studio in the Windows Search field 2 studios appear:
SSMS 18
SSMS 16
and if I click SSMS 16 it runs.
How to uninstall an elder SSMS 16?

I have been encountering all sort of problems to istall the SQL Server 2019 Express as well as SSMS v. 18.9. I wanted to move from SSQLSERVER 2014 and SSMS 2014 to 2019 version in order to attend a course on T-SQL using the latest version of the software.
After unstalling 2014 Server and Management studio files, I have been unable to install the 2019 version, either the Basic installation (the error says that "there has been an error when checking the installation rules for SQL Server"), or by downloading the resources (in this case, when I click on the setup.exe file a error dialog window appears with a red X saying "SQL Server setup").
Any tips, please?
Thanks in advance.
This issue is driving me crazy. I can't open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 18. When I try to open it I get the follow things:
Starts fine with the small window that says "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio v18.6"...
But then I get an error window saying:
"The 'MRU Package' package did not load correctly.
The problem may have been caused by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension"...
After that I get another error window saying:
"Cannot create the window".
Here's an Imgur link with pictures of the errors: Pictures
And that's it. I've been stucked there.
Things I've already did/tried:
Installed SSMS 18
Installed SQL Server 2019
Uninstalled Visual Studio 2017
Installed Visual Studio 2019
Re-installed SQL Server 2019
Repair installation of SSMS 18
Re-installed SSMS 18
Installed Visual Shell 2015
Rebooted PC several times
I don't know what else to do. I've been struggling with this since yesterday. I've searched for solutions but couldn't find anything that solved the problem.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
I have a new hp 2010 laptop. SQL Server 2017 and SSMS were installed and it worked.
I then needed to uninstall SQL Server 2017 and reinstall with mixed authentication enabled during the install.
Today my SSMS will not allow me to create a new query and I cannot select the top 1000 records of a table.
I select "New Query" and get the error:
Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program. (mscorlib)
I have tried multiple uninstalls and resinstalled this and an older version of SSMS.
I believe SQL Server is running okay.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I installed SSDT-Setup-ENU.exe on my Windows 8 PC, which already had Visual Studio.
How Do I start the data tools, I don't see a start icon or find it in the windows 8 menus.
SQL Server Data Tools will install into a Visual Studio instance. You can create new SSIS, Database, SSRS, or SSAS projects within Visual Studio, depending on what components of SSDT you installed.
I've tried to install Microsoft SQL Server MGMT Studio but I have the following error:
Fatal error during installation (0x80070643)
Setup is missing an installation prerequisite: - Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2016 RC3.
I've searched but not found this requirement.
try with this Feature Pack. Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Feature Pack is a collection of stand-alone packages which provide additional value for Microsoft SQL Server.
Hope this help!
