getting an average of a count of a group sql impala - sql

Given a table like;
+----+----------+
| id | modality |
+----+----------+
| 1 | CT |
| 1 | SC |
| 1 | MR |
| 1 | CT |
| 2 | SC |
| 3 | CT |
| 3 | CT |
| 3 | MR |
| 4 | MR |
| 4 | CT |
+----+----------+
Something like;
SELECT AVG(modality_count)
FROM (
SELECT id, COUNT(modality) AS modality_count
FROM TABLE
GROUP BY id
) a
Would get the average amount of modality per patient, and output something like:
+---------------------+
| AVG(modality_count) |
+---------------------+
| 1.4 |
+---------------------+
the following query:
SELECT CONCAT(CAST(COUNT(*) AS string), ' ' , modality) AS count_m
FROM TABLE
GROUP BY modality
would get the count of the number of rows for each modality, like:
+---+---------+
| | count_m |
+---+---------+
| 1 | 560 CT |
| 2 | 2 SC |
| 3 | 473 MR |
+---+---------+
Let's say there are 1035 rows, 726 unique ids, and each id is likely to have 1.4 scans (either CT, SC, MR). How would you get the average number of CT/ MT/ SC?
desired output something like:
+----------+---------+
| modality | AVG(id) |
+----------+---------+
| CT | 0.77 |
| SC | 0.003 |
| MR | 0.65 |
+----------+---------+
Thanks in advance

SQL Query - Add column data from another table adding nulls

I have 2 tables, tableStock and tableParts:
tableStock
+----+----------+-------------+
| ID | Num_Part | Description |
+----+----------+-------------+
| 1 | sr37 | plate |
+----+----------+-------------+
| 2 | sr56 | punch |
+----+----------+-------------+
| 3 | sl30 | crimper |
+----+----------+-------------+
| 4 | mp11 | holder |
+----+----------+-------------+
tableParts
+----+----------+-------+
| ID | Location | Stock |
+----+----------+-------+
| 1 | A | 2 |
+----+----------+-------+
| 3 | B | 5 |
+----+----------+-------+
| 5 | C | 2 |
+----+----------+-------+
| 7 | A | 1 |
+----+----------+-------+
And I just want to do this:
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
| ID | Num_Part | Description | Location | Stock |
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
| 1 | sr37 | plate | A | 2 |
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
| 2 | sr56 | punch | NULL | NULL |
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
| 3 | sl30 | crimper | B | 5 |
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
| 4 | mp11 | holder | NULL | NULL |
+----+----------+-------------+----------+-------+
List ALL the rows of the first table and if the second table has the info, in this case 'location' and 'stock', add to the column, if not, just null.
I have been using inner and left join but some rows of the first table disappear because the lack of data in the second one:
select tableStock.ID, tableStock.Num_Part, tableStock.Description, tableParts.Location, tableParts.Stock from tableStock inner join tableParts on tableStock.ID = tableParts.ID;
What can I do?
You can use left join. Here is the demo.
select
s.ID,
Num_Part,
Description,
Location,
Stock
from Stock s
left join Parts p
on s.ID = p.ID
order by
s.ID
output:
| id | num_part | description | location | stock |
| --- | -------- | ----------- | -------- | ----- |
| 1 | sr37 | plate | A | 2 |
| 2 | sr56 | punch | NULL | NULL |
| 3 | sl30 | crimper | B | 5 |
| 4 | mp11 | holder | NULL | NULL |

How to update table 2 from the inserted data in table 1?

Can you help me on what query I to to update one table with data from another.
I have 2 tables for example:
tbl_med_take
| id | name | med | qty |
---------------------------------
| 1 | jayson | med2 | 3 |
| 2 | may | med2 | 4 |
| 3 | jenny. | med3 | 6 |
| 4 | joel. | med3 | 4 |
tbl_med
| id | med | stocks |
-----------------------------
| 1 | med1 | 20 |
| 2 | med2 |. 17 |
| 3 | med3 | 24 |
The output that I want in tbl_med:
tbl_med
| id | med | stocks |
-----------------------------
| 1 | med1 | 20 |
| 2 | med2 |. 10 |
| 3 | med3 | 14 |
First get the total consumed from med_tbl_take using
select med, sum(quantity) as total from tbl_med_take group by med
Then you can left join with your med_tbl and subtract.
select m.id,m.med,(m.stocks-ISNULL(n.total,0)) from tbl_med m
left join
(select med, sum(quantity) as total from tbl_med_take group by med) n
on m.med=n.med

sort a table while keeping the hierarchy of rows

I have a table which represents the hierarchy of departments:
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
| Top Dept. | 2-tier Dept. | 3-tire Dept. | 4-tier Dept. | name | tier |
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
| 00 | | | | abc | 0 |
| | 00-01 | | | bcd | 1 |
| | | 00-01-01 | | cde | 2 |
| | | 00-01-02 | | abc | 2 |
| | 00-02 | | | aef | 1 |
| | | 00-02-01 | | qwe | 2 |
| | | 00-02-03 | | abc | 2 |
| | | | 00-02-03-01 | abc | 3 |
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
now I want to sort the rows which are in the same tier by their names while keeping the hierarchy overall, That's what I expect:
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
| Top Dept. | 2-tier Dept. | 3-tire Dept. | 4-tier Dept. | name | tier |
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
| 00 | | | | abc | 0 |
| | 00-02 | | | aef | 1 |
| | | 00-02-03 | | abc | 2 |
| | | 00-02-01 | | qwe | 2 |
| | 00-01 | | | def | 1 |
| | | 00-01-02 | | abc | 2 |
| | | 00-01-01 | | cde | 2 |
| | | | 00-02-03-01 | abc | 3 |
+-----------+--------------+--------------+--------------+-----------+-------+
the missing data means null, I'm using Oracle DB, can anyone help me?
EDIT: Actually, it's a simple version of this sql, I've tried to add a new column which concats the values of the first four columns and then order by it and by name, but it did't work.
Update: This appears to be working... SQL Fiddle
All that was really needed from my original comment was to amend name to department in that order in both selects. This allows the engine to sort by name first, while maintaining the hierarchy.
WITH cte(Dept, superiorDept, name, depth, sort)AS (
SELECT
Dept,
superiorDept,
name,
0,
name|| dept
FROM hierarchy h
WHERE superiorDept IS NULL
UNION ALL
SELECT
h2.Dept,
h2.superiorDept,
h2.name,
cte.depth + 1,
cte.sort || h2.name ||h2.dept
FROM hierarchy h2
INNER JOIN cte ON h2.superiorDept = cte.Dept
)
SELECT
CASE WHEN depth = 0 THEN Dept END AS 一级部门,
CASE WHEN depth = 1 THEN Dept END AS 二级部门,
CASE WHEN depth = 2 THEN Dept END AS 三级部门,
CASE WHEN depth = 3 THEN Dept END AS 四级部门,
name,
depth,
sort
FROM cte
ORDER BY sort, name

count distinct value of field on every row

table: item_tbl
|item_id |serial_code|item_name|
------------------------------
| 1 | x35 | bullet |
| 2 | 6ox | cord |
| 3 | 0hg | cord |
| 4 | a73 | tv |
| 5 | lo5 | bullet |
I tried to use SELECT serial_code, item_name, COUNT(item_name) FROM item_tbl but not what i expected of course. How can I count the distinct values of item_name to have something like:
|serial_code|item_name| count |
-----------------------------
| x35 | bullet | 2 |
| 6ox | cord | 2 |
| 0hg | cord | 2 |
| a73 | tv | 1 |
| lo5 | bullet | 2 |
SELECT Serial_Code, count.Item_Name, Count
FROM
item_tbl i
INNER JOIN
(
SELECT Item_Name, COUNT(1) Count
FROM item_tbl
GROUP BY item_Name
) count ON i.item_Name = count.Item_Name
Lets see if that works.

MS Access SQL query from 3 tables

I have 3 tables shown below in MS Access 2010:
Table: devices
id | device_id | Company | Version | Revision |
-----------------------------------------------
1 | dev_a | Almaras | 1.5.1 | 0.2A |
2 | dev_b | Enigma | 1.5.1 | 0.2A |
3 | dev_c | Almaras | 1.5.1 | 0.2C |
*Field: device_id is Primary Key Unique String
*Field ID is just an auto-number column
Table: activities
id | act_id | act_date | act_type | act_note |
------------------------------------------------
1 | dev_a | 07/22/2013 | usb_axc | ok |
2 | dev_a | 07/23/2013 | usb_axe | ok | (LAST ROW for dev_a)
3 | dev_c | 07/22/2013 | usb_axc | ok | (LAST ROW for dev_c)
4 | dev_b | 07/21/2013 | usb_axc | ok | (LAST ROW for dev_b)
*Field: act_id contains device_id; NOT UNIQUE
*Field ID is just an auto-number column
Table: matrix
id | mat_id | tc | ts | bat | cycles |
-----------------------------------------
1 | dev_a | 2811 | 10 | 99 | 200 |
2 | dev_a | 2911 | 10 | 97 | 400 |
3 | dev_a | 3007 | 10 | 94 | 600 |
4 | dev_a | 3210 | 10 | 92 | 800 | (LAST ROW for dev_d)
5 | dev_b | 1100 | 5 | 98 | 100 |
6 | dev_b | 1300 | 8 | 93 | 200 |
7 | dev_b | 1411 | 11 | 90 | 300 | (LAST ROW for dev_b)
8 | dev_c | 4000 | 27 | 77 | 478 | (LAST ROW for dev_c)
*Field: mat_id contains device_id; NOT UNIQUE
*Field ID is just an auto-number column
Is there any way to query tables to get results as shown below (each device from devices and only last row added [see example output table] from each of the other two tables):
Query Results:
device_id | Company | act_date | act_type | bat | cycles |
------------------------------------------------------------
device_a | Almaras | 07/23/2013 | usb_axe | 92 | 800 |
device_b | Enigma | 07/21/2013 | usb_axc | 90 | 300 |
device_c | Almaras | 07/22/2013 | usb_axc | 77 | 478 |
Any ideas? Thank you in advance for reading and helping me out :)
I think is what you want,
SELECT a.device_id, a.Company,
b.act_date, b.act_type,
c.bat, c.cycles
FROM ((((devices AS a
INNER JOIN activities AS b
ON a.device_id = b.act_id)
INNER JOIN matrix AS c
ON a.device_id = c.mat_id)
INNER JOIN
(
SELECT act_id, MAX(act_date) AS max_date
FROM activities
GROUP BY act_id
) AS d ON b.act_id = d.act_id AND b.act_date = d.max_date)
INNER JOIN
(
SELECT mat_id, MAX(tc) AS max_tc
FROM matrix
GROUP BY mat_id
) AS e ON c.mat_id = e.mat_id AND c.tc = e.max_tc)
The subqueries: d and e separately gets the latest row for every act_id.
Try
SELECT devices.device_id, devices.Company, activities.act_data, activities.act_type, matrix.bat, matrix.cycles
FROM devices
LEFT JOIN activities
ON devices.device_id = activities.act_id
LEFT JOIN matrix
ON devices.device_id = matrix.mat_id;
What do you consider the "last" row in Matrix?
You need to do something like
WHERE act_date in (SELECT max(a.act_date) from activities a where a.mat_id=d.device_id GROUP BY a.mat_id)
and something similar for the join to matrix.
