Trigger the AutoComplete drop down to show on click - vb.net

I am using the TextBox AutoComplete feature. The results I am returning only start with the letter "D" and the users might not know that... So entering anything other than a word starting with the letter "D" won't display the drop down suggestion box.
Is there any way I can trigger it to show the drop down suggestion box when I click on the TextBox without any text entered so they can at least see the options which are available to them? I am hoping I don't have to come up with another solution which will of course take hours of work.

VBA script to insert anchor position for autoshapes in Microsoft Word 2007

I'm beyond the limits of my kindergarten-level VBA skills so would like to ask if anyone here can help me write a VBA script to help me work stepwise through my Word document and adjust the anchoring position of all the AutoShapes in the document.
I have a 400-page book in Microsoft Word with at least one and sometimes several marginalia (sidenote) on each page in a thin column to the left of the main body text column. These sidenotes are a concise 'pointer' to a particular point made in the body text and need to appear directly to that point's left.
Each sidenote is in its own AutoShape (within a textbox in that shape). The AutoShapes were placed by the author in an inconsistent way. Mostly they are anchored to a position on the page.
However, I need to repaginate. This will cause the body text to flow differently and I need the sidenotes to flow with it (approximately or exactly)!
So before I repaginate I want to make sure I anchor each AutoShape to the paragraph it belongs to and not to the page it is currently on.
I don't know if that can be done automatically, since I don't know how Word could deduce a purely spatial relationship between an AutoShape and a paragraph.
So I'm guessing I have to make do with a "semi-automatic" process. Something like this:
Press a button to start VBA script
Select next AutoShape
Prompt for user to enter cursor in body text where anchor is to be placed
Resume macro
Place anchor for that AutoShape in that position
Change vertical position paramater of AutoShape to "relative to paragraph"
and "0 mm"
(Alternative, not 0 mm but another value deduced to more
accurately position AutoShape)
Change width parameter of AutoShape to
a particular fixed value 37 mm (some of them were a little
inaccurately drawn)
End cycle and go back to beginning to
Select next AutoShape
Hope that is all understandable.
I've tried to record a VBA script to do some of this but have no idea how to build in the user prompt.
Any help much appreciated!
Craig
You may be better off creating a macro that works on one shape at a time, or anchor all the shapes manually (which you're almost doing anyway) and then write a macro to take care of the various parameters and settings you want.
If you really want to prompt the user while the macro is running you'll need to look into modeless dialogs (not possible on the Mac). See this link: http://www.bettersolutions.com/vba/VXV113/SE846743531.htm
Basically, you'd have to create your own dialog and then show it modelessly so that the user could still place the cursor before hitting OK. If you're new to VBA, this could be difficult to set up.
While searching for solutions to this, I found a post on another forum from someone trying to do something very similar. He was developing a set of tools for editors using Word and until I find the ultimate solution I am using his "Shapes" tool which allows me to change parameters on each AutoShape I select at-a-click instead of opening up and closing a dialogue box each time, plus selecting a different tab each time... His tools can be downloaded at his Editors' Toolkit website.

Textbox dropdown bubble when text goes over visual space?

I looking for a way to add what would look like a drop down box when the user reaches the end of the visible space of a textbox. the drop down would then show what they have already typed pulse what there still typing tell they hit enter. Any ideas? The bigger pitcher is to add whatever method we come up with to a GridViewTextbox where space is limited in a row however the data they enter can be much longer then the box. The idea is to keep user from getting lost in what there typing and can provide easy review and edit. something like this but pops up when you enters then gos back on leave but just be for text as 'enter' will move the user to the next control aka enter as tab
It won't let me post the image I was talking about so use this like as a refrence .NET 2010 custom control, multiline String property to be edited in the designer
In the ASP.NET there is control which suits the need.I hope it helps
It is
<asp:AutoCompleteExtender
runat="server"
BehaviorID="AutoCompleteEx"
ID="autoComplete1"
TargetControlID="targetID"
ServicePath="Give the Path of the web service"
ServiceMethod="Name of the ID "
MinimumPrefixLength="1"
CompletionInterval="500"
EnableCaching="true"
CompletionSetCount="10"
DelimiterCharacters=";, :"
ShowOnlyCurrentWordInCompletionListItem="true"
/>
You could also use a ToolTip control to show a popup message to the user. I've read your question three times now and I'm still not sure entirely what it is you're asking.

How to use Mouseout Function in VBA with a condition Check?

Hi I have a VBA application with a combobox selection option.One of the combobox option is Other which when user select that option an invisibled label will pops up and prompt the user to fill the txtOther control.now my question is how I can get rid of the prompted label and make it to invisible after user fill the txtOther and move(focused)in other control?
here is a shot of my app:
Thanks for your time and help
It depends on how often or when you want the check to be done. I couldn't find a good reference to show you all of this, but you can view your VBE.
Within the code behind your userform you can use events for the text box.
If you want the check done every time you leave the text box:
Use the TextBox_Exit event.
If you want it to fire whenever the contents are changed, used TextBox_Change. There's lots of options, but based on your explanation I'd probably use Exit.
This answer shows some syntax examples for using the Textbox_Exit event.

Selenium IDE not recording Dijit Combo Values

I have an application which uses Dijit Combobox. What happens is, I click on the cell. It opens up a dropdown. This is getting properly recorded in the IDE. But, when I choose a value from the drop down, IDE is not recording that part.
Here is the firebug screenshot of the combo box that appears on clicking on the cell. As you can see it has two values cm2 and mat1. I need the IDE code to choose either of these values.
I tried something like
click - //div[#id='csi_table_Widget_5']/div[2]/table/tbody/tr/td[11] This works fine for opening the drop down.
click - //div[#id='widget_csi_widget_FilteringSelect_10_dropdown']/ul/li[4]
This does not work for choosing a value from the drop down.
Any help, please?
If you absolutely have to click the value, then I think you need to check the ID you are using. Based on the DOM you should be using //div[#id='csi_widget_FilteringSelect_10_dropdown']... instead of widget_csi_... I'm not sure a selector on widgetid would work in selenium.
Alternatively, if you know what value you will be entering into the combo, you could use selenium.type for all but the last character you need to enter, and then selenium.keyPress for the last one. This will fire dojo's change method and select the value in question, unless there is more than one matching the string provided.

Searching through DataGridView

I have a datagridview with three columns (ID, Name, Address). It's bound to a database that contains around 500 items.
I want to be able to search the gridview for data given in a text box, and then highlight it.
If possible, pressing the Next button should find the next match, and the Reset button should clear all selections (nothing highlighted).
Please advise how to do it.
Thank you very much.
Add a search box and search button in the page. OnClick of the search button, search the datatable for the results and keep the result in the session. then on the bound event of grid, highlight the first row of from the search result set (which can be done by matching the primary/unique key of the table).
You have to handle most of code the manually for this. OnClick of next button, highlight the next row from the search result. again traversing of the search result has to handled manually like keeping the track of current result, moving to next result or moving backward etc.
then on click of reset button clear the search result session and bind the grid again without any highlighted rows.
I don't have code to post for you right now. but i hope if you implement this approach surely your problems will be resolved.
