I am running Apache Directory as a service on Windows 10.
I installed and ran the service and it ran without difficulties. Then, using the Apache Directory Studio (in Schema Mode), I created a new schema project, added a new schema with a single object type and a single attribute type, exported the new schema information to an LDIF file, and imported it back into the LDAP browser (as instructed in https://directory.apache.org/apacheds/basic-ug/2.3.1-adding-schema-elements.html).
As instructed, I then attempted to restart the ApacheDS service.
The ApacheDS service now will not start! When I attempt to start it now, it consistently shows the following failure message:
error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly
Does anyone know what is broken in the server that causes this failure? How can I fix this problem and get the service to run again?
The error could be anything, and might be as well unrelated to the schema update, to get more debug info, change FATAL in conf to DEBUG.

When changing the back-end database, there's a few things you need to make sure you check.
repository.xml
quartz.properties
hibernate-settings.xml
[your-database].hibernate.cfg.xml
context.xml (in WEB-INF)
You'll need to confirm the settings for the connection to the new database has been properly configured in all of these different config files. Some additional details on how to config these files for MySQL specifically can be found in the documentation here: https://help.pentaho.com/Documentation/8.1/Setup/Installation/Archive/MySQL_Repository
Past that, make sure that you delete the "repository" directory inside of /pentaho-solutions/system/jackrabbit as this is an index of the repository. If you change your database back-end, then this index needs to be rebuilt. The index is rebuilt automatically if the server sees that "repository" directory doesn't exist at startup.
I've found the same issue on Windows Server 2016 and MySQL8.0, with Pentaho 8.0.2.
Starting Pentaho server from the start-pentaho.bat command, everything was fine.
The problem arise when I was using Tomcat.
The solution was to be sure that Tomcat service was running with the LOCAL SYSTEM account.
If the Tomcat service runs with lower privileges, maybe it can't access to the pentaho-solutions directory and it cannot load the required java beans.
if everything as per the document is configured correctly, then You might be missing the connection change in applicationContext-spring-security-hibernate.properties, please check that.
Its been quite sometime that I am trying to publish the data base for my website using webdeploy in VS 2013 but I keep getting the following error:
Web deployment task failed. (Could not generate deployment script.
Internal Error. The database platform service with type Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.Sql.Sql120DatabaseSchemaProvider is not valid. You must make sure the service is loaded, or you must provide the full type name of a valid database platform service.
I have tried installing the new updates. I am making sure that the local server is running during deployment. I have made sure that I enter the full server name rather than a dot. I have literally done everything that I could think of but to no avail.
Can anyone help me, please?
The issue might be related to VisualStudioVersion environment variable, which needs to be set to VisualStudioVersion=11.0 or VisualStudioVersion=12.0 to support SQL Server 2014. Check this answer, also here is the info how to target the VisualStudioVersion.
We are trying to deploy Worklight Enterprise edition on Ubuntu server over Tomcat
While we were successful with several steps, we got stuck with one error while getting the Tomcat up and running with our War file. We use MySQL as DB.
The specific error we are facing is ".BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'deployService' defined in URL"
SEVERE: FWLST0003E: ========= Failed starting project /td_ibm
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'deployService' defined in URL [jar:file:/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/worklight-jee-library.jar!/conf/integration.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is java.lang.NullPointerException
The complete log trace text file can be found at Tomcat Log
This is clearly a configuration issue.
1. run mysql-admin (MySQL UI front end) and make sure you can connect to the Worklight catalog under the name and user you defined in the worklight.properties.
if the database is on a different machine than the tomcat (make sure you have set the right remote access permissions for MySQL (for testing only: try giving Worklight DB user an untrusted access .i.e. use "#%" ))
another issue: if you are installing Worklight on Tomcat: did you run the SQL schema script to create the Worklight schema ? you must run it manually (there is a workaround though: connect to the same database from Eclipse which runs a Worklight project)
what files do you have under /var/lib/tomcat6/worklight.home/td_ibm/data/export/adapters ?
If its empty, there maybe a bug in the Worklight code.
Cannot start LocalDB instance, I have installed and re-installed over and over.
Keep getting this error :
Start of LocalDB instance "v11.0" failed because of the following error:
Error occurred during LocalDB instance startup: SQL Server process failed to start.
Anyone any advice ? ?
Microsoft SQL Server 2012, i have ensured the FULL installation options, stopped all services SQL related and tried restarting .
sqllocaldb info
gives me :
Projects
v11.0
when i try
sqllocaldb start v11.0
I get the above error.
When all else fails and you don't care about data loss, delete and recreate your LocalDB\v11.0 database! At the command prompt
sqllocaldb delete v11.0
sqllocaldb create v11.0
(Sqllocaldb is in your PATH right? It was for me.)
I was getting a similar error, but when running
sqllocaldb start
The local db started successfully. Also when checking the event log I saw an error along the lines of
Windows API call WaitForMultipleObjects returned error code: 575
What fixed it for me:
In IIS, configure the app pool to run under an account with permissions to the DB on the server (advanced options of the app pool)
In the advanced option of the app pool, set Load User Profile to true
Reference: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2011/12/09/using-localdb-with-full-iis-part-1-user-profile.aspx
It worths looking at LocalDB log files too, it is more detailed than event log:
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\ProjectsV12\error.log
Besides recreating the instance I had to delete the content of this folder:
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SSDT\
This is where I have the mdf and ldf files.
My solution:
Go to: %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\ and allow total control of the folder "Instances" to everyone group.
I know this is not OK but it solved my problem and i don't really care about the data of that folder as this is a developing and testing computer.
Same problem here. Here's how I fixed it using bits of the other solutions posted here.
I had dozens of these errors in the application event log:
Windows API call WaitForMultipleObjects returned error code: 575. Windows system error message is: {Application Error}
The application was unable to start correctly (0x%lx). Click OK to close the application.
Reported at line: 3730.
I realized that I had SQL Server Management Studio installed on my development machine, but no other SQL components. I installed the database engine, shared components, and localdb from SQL Express
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/cloud-platform/sql-server-editions-express
After installing, I still get the same error in event log :(
Found this article:
Cannot start LocalDB
Run the following in cmd to get the localdb instance name:
C:> sqllocaldb info
In my install, I had:
MSSQLLocalDB
ProjectsV13
I ran the following to delete the instances:
sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB
sqllocaldb delete ProjectsV13
I ran into issues trying to delete/create these (sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB). I ended up deleting all of the folders and files under '%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances*' (You need to stop SQL Server and kill all sqlserver processes)
Then running 'sqllocaldb create' created and started the default instance and all files.
Had this issue suddenly too but saw nothing weird in logs. Was able to get it running by running the following in an administrator command prompt:
sqllocaldb start
I had this issue. I was trying to use Windows Authentication through an application, but the IIS App Pool credentials were wrong. I was using my Windows user name (ie: NETWORK\name) as my identity, but I changed it to the built-in "LocalSystem" and it worked.
You should check the Event Log for additional information.

What worked for me was the local IIS application pool I was using was the ApplicationPoolIdentity and that did not have permission to login to MSSQLLocalDB. As soon as a I changed the app pool identity to my windows login account - I was able to connect ok.
Had this issue on Windows 10 when our application was run with compatibility for Windows 8 enabled. Turning off the compatibility setting fixed it.
Before you try something drastic:
After waiting for about 5 minutes it "healed" itself.
(May be this is what this log message is pointing at: "The RANU instance is terminating in response to its internal time out")
I can not yet comment posts here but I really want to give a hint for the in my case extremely helpful post https://stackoverflow.com/a/30298863/8015089 above:
If your LocalDB instance is run by the Windows SYSTEM user (as in my case) the path to error.log is this (MS SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB on Win11): C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\<InstanceName> (enter this path subfolder by subfolder to avoid access problems!)
I used the web platform installer to install the Orchard CMS but when the setup web page comes up for the CMS, once I submit my details, the following error is shown on the orchard system for the first time:
Setup failed: Exception has been
thrown by the target of an invocation.
Exception has been thrown by the
target of an invocation. Access is
denied. (Exception from HRESULT:
0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
I have checked my application pool and that user has full permissions to the app data folder which is where the local database is created (I think that is where it is falling over).
It creates a error log file at the same time but it is empty which is handy.
Anyone else had any issues with running the first time setup?
I have looked on there project site but troubleshooting documentation is very thin: http://www.orchardproject.net/docs/Installing-Orchard.ashx
Ok, here is a solution.
Although I managed to install Orchard using the existing SQL Server, I was still curious about this issue and not working with SQL Server Compact. Apparently it was some permission problem with folder where SQL CE should be put, well that was my thinking.
Then I found this answer here at SO Deploying SQL CE 4 to IIS 7 - Special Permissions Needed? and kaboom! that's it. There were no permissions on bin folder for IUSR, even though I added it for parent folder. Hm, whatever happened, now it's gone.
Might be unrealted but the very first thing you should check is whether the app pool is configured to use .NET 4.0.
