I created publish profile that publish to File System, and I need to run custom script after publish from context menu of visual studio 2017 is finished.

I think you can just create a custom target in xxxx.csproj file or xxxxxx.pubxml file.
Just like this:
<Target Name="RunCustomScript" AfterTargets="GatherAllFilesToPublish">
<Exec Command="xxxx\xxxx.ps1" />
</Target>
You can set this target in xxxx.csprojor xxxx.pubxml.
Note that GatherAllFilesToPublish is one of the publish process's system target and when this custom target depends on GatherAllFilesToPublish, it will always run and execute the script adter publish process.
Update 1
Sorry for not understanding your requirements in time. I assume you want to do some operation such as copying when all the imported files are published into the publish folder.
In general, this step does not belong to any system targets and MS has confirmed, that when publishing to file system they don't have any target to launch after that.
"We currently do not support executing custom targets after publish
from VS for the file system protocol."
However we can try this way:
1) create a custom target which uses AfterTargets="CopyAllFilesToSingleFolderForPackage" (runs just before the files are copied to the publish location).
2) In custom target, use asynchronous execution AsyncExec of the script to ensure that the publish file to publish folder operation is executed while the script is running.
3) After that, in the script, the execution of the content is delayed by 5 seconds (the time can be changed according to the specific release time of the packaged file) to ensure that the script content is executed after the system publishes all the files.
Step
1) install the nuget package called MSBuild.Extension.Pack into your project.
2) create the custom target and use its AsyncExec to execute your script.
<Target Name="RunCustomScript" AfterTargets="GatherAllFilesToPublish">
<AsyncExec command="powershell.exe C:\Users\xxxxx\xxxx.ps1" />
</Target>
3) Open your script, please add this on the top of all the content which means that sleep for 5 seconds before executing the contents of the script.
Start-Sleep -s 5 // 5 means 5 seconds
Therefore, the script will executes after all the files are published into the publish folder.

How to kill VBCSCompiler.exe on Ubuntu agent?

I created an Azure Devops Build pipeline and i am trying to build my ASP.NET MVC and Angular hybrid site project on bitbucket (git).
The project first gets checked out, and nuget restores the necessary packages, and then the .NET builds. I used windows 2019 as azure pipeline agent for the build to succeed. however, Its taking about 7 minutes to complete, whilst running the tasks (besides .Net) on a ubuntu agent is much faster! takes around 2 mins instead!
Therefore, I'd like to use ubuntu, but im running into an issue with the MSBuild task...

According to this post, VBCSCompiler.exe continues running from the Compiler Nuget package (nuget restore task?) so it locks the src folders and prevented future builds from running, e.g. causing error like this:
/home/vsts/work/1/s/packages/Microsoft.CodeDom.Providers.DotNetCompilerPlatform.1.0.8/build/net45/Microsoft.CodeDom.Providers.DotNetCompilerPlatform.props(17,5):

So the solution would be to kill the VBCSCompiler.exe but since i cant actually access the hosted machine during the build, im not sure how to do that.

Am i facing a dead-end path here with this approach? The build runs fine on windows 2019 but it just takes too long, so thats why if i can make it run on ubuntu successfully that would be great!
You can have a try with below workarounds:
1,Set MSBUILD arguements /p:UseSharedCompilation=false.
You can add above arguement to the msbuild arguements field of the msbuild task. See here.
2,Upgrade Microsoft.CodeDom.Providers.DotNetCompilerPlatform nupkg to the latest and remove Microsoft.Net.Compilers nupkg from your project. See here for more information.
3, Try Specifing the TTL of Roslyn compiler server.
You can define a pipeline variable VBCSCOMPILER_TTL on the Variable tab to specify a shorter idle time for VBCSCompiler.exe
Or you can add <providerOption name="CompilerServerTimeToLive" value="[num of seconds]" /> under system.codedom/compilers/compiler in the config file. See here for more information.
4, Use CheckIfShouldKillVBCSCompiler target:
You can try add below to your csproj file:
<Target Name="CheckIfShouldKillVBCSCompiler">
<PropertyGroup>
<ShouldKillVBCSCompiler>true</ShouldKillVBCSCompiler>

The build on Ubuntu 20 finally worked! I don't know why removing these lines resolved the VBCSCompiler issue, but by doing so, the msbuild completed successfully on Ubunutu 20 agent!!
Remove the following lines from the .csproj file:

To give some context to the answer, this post here indicated that converting from MSBuild-Integrated Package Restore to Automatic Package Restore (nuget restore task) implied that the Microsoft.Net.Compilers <Import> and <Error Condition> snippets are no longer relevant/needed in the .csproj file.

Why is building two targets with msbuild different from building each target separately?

I have a project that imports a certain targets file from a Nuget package. Even though I use PackageReferences I am forced to import this file manually.
(See my other question for details - How are we supposed to execute package build targets in the new world where nuget packages are consumed through msbuild PackageReference?)
This targets file injects chromedriver.exe into the Content item group with CopyToOutputDirectory = PreserveNewest.
I observe a situation where chromedriver.exe is not copied to the bin folder when running msbuild /t:"Restore;Build", but it is copied when running the two targets separately - msbuild /t:Restore; msbuild /t:Build.
Can anyone explain how this happens?
(I killed a good portion of the day learning the difference on my skin, want to know how come?)
Restore changes the imported project files in the obj\ directory.
For this to take effect, the project file needs to be re-evaluated entirely, which does not happen when you run the Restore and Build targets in the same invocation.
Use the -restore command line switch for MSBuild to run a Restore before the other specified targets in the same command line call. MSBuild will run the Restore, empty its XML caches and re-evaluate the project again when running the requested build.

MSBuild Not Working TeamCity But Works From CommandLine

I'm at a total loss. We have TeamCity installed (TeamCity Professional 2017.2.3 (build 51047)). We run the MSBuild step with:
MSBuildVersion: Microsoft Build Tools 2017
MSBuild Tools Version:
15.0
and Command Parameters:
/t:Clean /p:DeployOnBuild=true /t:build /t:publish /p:PublishProfile=Properties\PublishProfiles\Deploy.pubxml /p:PublishDirectory=Deployment /p:Configuration=Release /p:VisualStudioVersion=15.0
When we run the build t shows:
_DeploymentUnpublishable [11:16:53][_DeploymentUnpublishable] Skipping unpublishable project.
TeamCity outputs at the start:
Starting:

If I navigate to the msbuildPath in the CommandLine and run the same command it builds and publishes without issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
MSBuild Step In TeamCity:
I had this issue and resolved it by setting a Parameter towards the publishing profile.
This is what i had:
- *.csproj would build and publish in visual studio locally.
- TeamCity builds fine but when asked to Publish sends me the not helpful _deploymentunpublishable
I tried all the commands in the msbuild line but only the following setup works:
pre-step: Create a Publishing profile (*.pubxml) which outputs to a folder within your build. This should be saved in your /Properties folder of the build.
inside your configuration page, go to Parameters.
Add a new Parameter for "System". Call it PublishProfile (system.PublishProfile). Give it a vaule which is the name of your publish profile file or *.pubxml

create a new step (or amend existing publish step), runner type "MSBuild" and in the Targets box type WebPublish

You dont need any command line parameters as your pubxml will handle all this.
Thats it, give it a try and your code should now publish to the folder you set in the publishing profile.

Is it possible to run the MSBUILD.SONARQUBE.RUNNER on a CSProj file as opposed to a solution?

I have a TFS xaml Build template that runs the msbuild.sonarqube.runner start (and end) before and (after the) msbuild task in the xaml.
It all works well enough with a .sln file. As the file under build.
However, when I attempt to use this on a build that runs msbuild on a .csproj file the end process reports that it cannot find the postprocess exe.
"Execution failed. The specified executable does not exist: .sonarqube\bin\MSBuild.SonarQube.Internal.PostProcess.exe"
there no error indication given by the Start command.
is there something special I need to do to get this to work, or is this a limitation of the MSBuild runner?
Please help.
My whole team is keen to use the tool, but as it is only a fraction of the existing builds are being analyzed

The begin and end commands of the SonarQube Scanner for MSBuild, as well as all msbuild commands MUST be launched from the same current working directory. Indeed, they will all need access to the .sonarqube folder that is created by the begin command.
Other than that, you can launch MSBuild on a *.csproj file instead of a *.sln if you prefer - that is supported by the SonarQube Scanner for MSBuild.

Make sure you put yourself in the root folder of the project you want to analyze, then run the following commands:
a.MSBuild.SonarQube.Runner.exe begin /k:"sonarqube_project_key" /n:"sonarqube_project_name" /v:"sonarqube_project_version"
b.Build the project, for example: msbuild /t:Rebuild
c.MSBuild.SonarQube.Runner.exe end

How do I copy the Release folder contents to a secondary location?

I am brand new to using TeamCity.
I have my .NET C# application building via a MSBuild "build step" in TeamCity. Once it is built, I would like TeamCity to copy the entire contents of the "Release" folder to a secondary location where we keep current and recent builds.
I cannot build to this location directly because there are other files which my application requires (databases, XML config files, etc..) that reside permanently in the Debug and Release folders. I know this is horrible and I would need a soapbox to complain about the decisions my predecessor made, but for not I am forced to keep that portion as-is.
You can add a command line build step with a simple xcopy command.
It will be executed only when every previous build step succeeds.
