using vue.js I'm wondering what is considered the best way to insert span elements into a text at multiple given positions? Specifically, in a simplified example, I have:
text = "This is a random text. It goes on and on..."
positions = [0, 5, 17]
span_templ = '<span class="some_class" />' <-- closed span for sake of simplicity
The workflow is: the user clicks on a button, some RESTful request is sent to a server, which returns both text and positions. A <p> shall be updated with the text but with inserted <span> elements.
I'm relatively new to vue.js, so I'm wondering what is more typical in vue.js: rather do the String update in the template {{ ... }} itself or would you first update the String in plan JS and then simply refer to the String in the moustache part?
You can use v-html and pass the HTML string as prop.
Example use: https://v2.vuejs.org/v2/guide/syntax.html#Raw-HTML

The page contains a multi-select dropdown (similar to the one below)
The html code looks like the below:
<div class="button-and-dropdown-div>
<button class="Multi-Select-Button">multi-select button</button>
<div class="dropdown-containing-options>
<label class="dropdown-item">
<input class="checkbox">
"
Name
"
</label>
<label class="dropdown-item">
<input class="checkbox">
"
Address
"
</label>
</div>
After testing in firefox developer tools, I was finally able to figure out the xPath needed in order to get the text for a certain label ...
The below XPath statement will return the the text "Phone"
$x("(//label[#class='dropdown-item'])[4]/text()[2]")
The label contains multiple text items (although it looks like there is just one text object when looking at the UI) in the label element. There are actually two text elements within each label element. The first is always empty, the second contains the actual text (as shown in the below image when observing the element through the Firefox developer tool's console window):
Question:
How do I modify the XPath shown above in order to use in Selenium's FindElement?
Driver.FindElement(By.XPath("?"));
I know how to use the contains tool, but apparently not with more complex XPath statements. I was pretty sure one of the below would work but they did not (develop tool complain of a syntax error):
$x("(//label[#class='dropdown-item' and text()[2][contains(., 'Name')]]")
$x("(//label[#class='dropdown-item' and contains(text()[2], 'Name')]")
I am using the 'contains' in order to avoid white-space conflicts.
Additional for learning purposes (good for XPath debugging):
just in case anyone comes across this who is new to XPath, I wanted to show what the data structure of these label objects looked like. You can explore the data structure of objects within your webpage by using the Firefox Console window within the developer tools (F12). As you can see, the label element contains three sub-items; text which is empty, then the inpput checkbox, then some more text which has the actual text in it (not ideal). In the picture below, you can see the part of the webpage that corresponds to the label data structure.
If you are looking to find the element that contains "Name" given the HTML above, you can use
//label[#class='dropdown-item'][contains(.,'Name')]
So finally got it to work. The Firefox developer environment was correct when it stated there was a syntax problem with the XPath strings.
The following XPath string finally returned the desired result:
$x("//label[#class='dropdown-item' and contains(text()[2], 'Name')]")
Currently custom fields show up as text on product pages.
Custom Field #1 Name: Material, Custom Field #1 Value: Cotton
Is there some other option instead to just pass data to the template? For example I'd like to display a 'NEW' label on the product page if new == true.
Sort of like https://springmerchant.com/bigcommerce/product-labels/
Right now we're using handlebars and if-statements to hide custom fields with a __prefix. For example __new: true.
If you're developing your template in stencil, there are a couple of options... You can loop through the custom fields until you find the correct one and then check the value... Ex:
{{#each product.custom_fields}}
{{#if name "==" "__new"}}
{{#if value "==" "true"}}
YOUR HTML CODE HERE
{{/if}}
{{/if}}
{{/each}}
Alternatively, you can put all your custom_fields into an array and use javascript to populate various aspects of the site:
<script>
var custom = [];
{{#each product.custom_fields}}
custom.push({'name':"{{name}}",'value':"{{value}}"});
{{/each}}
YOUR CODE TO LOOP THROUGH JSON ARRAY AND DO VARIOUS TESTS AND STUFF
</script>
If you don't have access to stencil templates and are just doing development through the control panel, you could write javascript to parse the default custom_field html and then use the data accordingly.
None of the solutions are particularly clean, but they all work.
I need get string inside slot before that slot is compiled. Is posibble?
Example
<div>
<slot>
<component-test text="test1"></component-test>
</slot>
</div>
I need as result "<component-test text="test1"></component-test>"
hmm seems its treating slot content html so .. in end result if you need it as string and use later on then you have to do some trick.
first you need to put real string there:
escape('<component-test text="test1"></component-test>');
output : %3Ccomponent-test%20text%3D%22test1%22%3E%3C/component-test%3E
use this output content and put that in slot.
this will treat as string.
now if you need to use that string's real html
convert it back to html using :
unescape('%3Ccomponent-test%20text%3D%22test1%22%3E%3C/component-test%3E')
output :
<component-test text="test1"></component-test>
in this way when you need to transfer html/string you can make it real string then when you need to use/compile make it html again.
Is there any reason why a repeat.for binding would remove attributes from elements inside the repeater?
<div repeat.for="i of model.someArray.length">
<label>Some Array - Index ${i + 1}</label>
<input value.bind="model.someArray[i]" some-custom-attribute="someArray[${i}]"/>
</div>
and that some-custom-attribute is not being output within the repeat, but if I were to remove the string interpolation within there then it outputs fine.
== Edit ==
I have put it in a comment but just to make sure everyone is on the same page, ideally this is the output I expect:
<input value.bind="model.someArray[i]" some-custom-attribute="someArray[0]"/>
The some-custom-attribute is not an aurelia attribute, its pure HTML that a 3rd party JS library uses, so the goal here is to get the textual value of the index into the textual attribute value.
model.someArray.length is a number, not an array. You need to iterate over the array. If you do need the current index, the repeater provides the $index property for you to use.
Your code should look like this:
<div repeat.for="item of model.someArray">
<label>Some Array - Index ${$index + 1}</label>
<input value.bind="item" some-custom-attribute.bind="item"/>
</div>
To answer your original question, doing some-custom-attribute="model.someArray[${i}]" makes Aurelia think you are trying to pass a string value to the custom attribute. You can see that in the following gist: https://gist.run/?id=eed8ac8623ff4749aa5bb93c82a7b1fb I've created a custom element that just pushes whatever value it is given in to an element on the page. Note!!! Don't ever do what I'm doing here! I just did this this way so you wouldn't have to open the js console. To actually get a value passed in, you would need to use some-custom-attribute.bind="item" or (to do things how you are doing things, some-custom-attribute.bind="someArray[i]"
I have some dijit.InlineEditBox widgets and now I need to add some search highlighting over them, so I return the results with a span with class="highlight" over the matched words. The resulting code looks like this :
<div id="title_514141" data-dojo-type="dijit.InlineEditBox"
data-dojo-props="editor:\'dijit.form.TextBox\', onFocus:titles.save_old_value,
onChange:titles.save_inline, renderAsHtml:true">Twenty Thousand Leagues <span
class="highlight">Under</span> the Sea</div>
This looks as expected, however, when I start editing the title the added span shows up. How can I make the editor remove the span added so only the text remains ?
In this particular case the titles of the books have no html in them, so some kind of full tag stripping should work, but it would be nice to find a solution (in case of short description field with a dijit.Editor widget perhaps) where the existing html is left in place and only the highlighting span is removed.
Also, if you can suggest a better way to do this (inline editing and word highlighting) please let me know.
Thank you !
How will this affect your displayed content in the editor? It rather depends on the contents you allow into the field - you will need a rich-text editor (huge footprint) to handle html correctly.
These RegExp's will trim away XML tags
this.value = this.displayNode.innerHTML.replace(/<[^>]*>/, " ").replace(/<\/[^>]*>/, '');
Here's a running example of the below code: fiddle
<div id="title_514141" data-dojo-type="dijit.InlineEditBox"
data-dojo-props="editor:\'dijit.form.TextBox\', onFocus:titles.save_old_value,
onChange:titles.save_inline, renderAsHtml:true">Twenty Thousand Leagues <span
class="highlight">Under</span> the Sea
<script type="dojo/method" event="onFocus">
this.value = this.displayNode.innerHTML.
replace(/<[^>]*>/, " ").
replace(/<\/[^>]*>/, '');
this.inherited(arguments);
</script>
</div>
The renderAsHtml attribute only trims 'off one layer', so embedded HTML will still be html afaik. With the above you should be able to 1) override the onFocus handling, 2) set the editable value yourself and 3) call 'old' onFocus method.
Alternatively (as seeing you have allready set 'titles.save_*' in props, use dojo/connect instead of dojo/method - but you need to get there first, sort of say.
