I tried installing other npm packages and it worked, the cli is the only one that doesn't work
Most probably it has to do with the user rights. Here's an article on npm addressing your problem.
Boils down to two things you can try:
Reinstall npm with a node version manager
Manually change npm's default directory
I had this issue many times in the past and tried various solutions. Some of them didn't do much more than f*cking my setup even more, that's why it's really worthy to follow the official path.

Getting No such file or directory: 'ganache-cli' error

I installed ganache-cli using npm install -g ganache-cli, however I am running into a No such file or directory: 'ganache-cli error when trying to run it. When calling echo $PATH, I see ~/.npm-global/bin, which contains the ganache-cli file, so I am confused as to what the issue could be. Any help is greatly appreciated.
For reference, I am using zsh on MacOS.
ganache-cli is now deprecated. You might see the following npm-warning:

Use npm install -g ganache.
Use sudo npm install -g ganache if you get some error like this:

The issue of EACCES errors on global module installation is so common that npm has an entire web page dedicated to solving just this issue.
Since you are installing yeoman, I imagine this is a development machine. In that case, your best bet is likely to install node/npm with a package manager like nvm.
One thing you don't want to do but that people will often suggest is running the npm command with sudo. People recommend this because it's easy. But if you do that, all the lifecycle scripts (e.g., postinstall) of the dependencies of whatever you are installing will also be run as root. That's potentially a lot of untrusted code running as root.

npm error installing serialport

I'm trying to use node.js serialport package but it give some errors that I don't understand.
To simplify, I start form a clear directory 'test' and I create a new app:
sudo npm init
Then I try to install serialport:
sudo npm install serialport --save
but I've got this error:
serialport#5.0.0 install /*********/test/node_modules/serialport
node-pre-gyp install --fallback-to-build
env: node: No such file or directory
npm WARN test#1.0.0 No description

I've tryed with other versions, clear npm cache, and other strange things, but I don't get any solution.
Versions:
OSX 10.8.5
node -v: v8.4.0
Thanks!
Ok.
I've resolved it with this order to install:
sudo npm install serialport --unsafe-perm --build-from-source
as the serialport web page says:
https://www.npmjs.com/package/serialport
Thanks for all!

Does C:\Users\vikas\Desktop\electron apps\example\package.json exist? If not try running npm init to create it, and then run npm install electron-prebuilt --save-dev again.
this is bug and a workaround is provided on github : Source
Here is the workaround:
rm -rf ~/.electron/
rm -rf ~/.atom/
npm cache clear
npm install
I was facing a similar issue. But opening the command prompt as administrator (Windows) and reinstalling electron fixed the issue.
