Is the Log::Timeline Visualization also supported with the Comma IDEA Plugin for IntelliJ or is it only part of the standalone Comma IDE? And if it is supported with IntelliJ, are there additional components needed in IntelliJ?
It is supported through the plugin also. I just tried it with the latest Comma Community plugin by:
Creating a new Cro Web Application project (though any Perl 6 project type will work, this just got me something to test without needing to write any code).
Creating a run configuration (a Cro one, but again, a normal Perl 6 one would do also).
The Timeline option for this run configuration is then available (for instance, on the Run menu). And here it is running:
Note: make sure you have Cro 0.8.1 installed if trying to visualize a Cro web application.

We have several python projects but are not moving into the world of kotlin. I am looking to unify tools somewhat by introducing gradle to automate tasks within python projects.
I have added a working sample kotlin-dsl gradle script that automates the tasks successfully when launched from a shell, but where I am blocked is adding support for this to the intellij IDE.
The first challenge is simply configuring a python project to add gradle (currently gradle does not even appear on the tool windows menu. I am thinking the python module can have python support allowing the overall project to have the jvm as this will be needed by gradle. But what to do switch intellij to recognise the allready working build.gradle.kts file in the project root folder so tasks can be launced through the IDE and not just the shell?
Note: python dependancy support is not required at this time (as per the linked in).

I want to write a custom IDE on top of IntelliJ Platform. Android Studio is an example. It was built based on IntelliJ Platform and was designed to support Android application development.
There are lots of git GUI out there. However, in Linux, I don't satisfy with any. That is my motivation to write a git IDE for Linux. IntelliJ IDEA already have a very good Git plugin. Using IntelliJ IDEA is a solution. But it is too heavy for opening entire project with different functionalities (Run, Debug, Refactor...) for just Git operations. Therefore, I want to make that plugin a complete IDE for only Git operation.
On IntelliJ Platform forum page, there are tutorials to write plugins. However, it doesn't have the guide for writing a complete IDE.
Are there any tutorials to help me get started?
IntelliJ platform is probably not the best choice for writing a general purpose RCP applications.

Git plugin has 65k lines of code, you are talking about gutting ~13M lines IDE (respectively 3M lines of pure Java source code).

I'm trying to create a Play 2.3.1 framework, because the lack of info on how to get started with 2.4.3. So much has changed apparently that the tutorials on youtube is useless and I can't get it to work.
Question
How do I do this?
I have tried to go to https://www.playframework.com/download#older-versions but all versions yield the same link to https://downloads.typesafe.com/typesafe-activator/1.3.6/typesafe-activator-1.3.6-minimal.zip
which installs the newest playframework 2.4.3.
Please say that someone knows how to do this?
Also, why should I bother using 2.4.3 > 2.3.1 if I'm only creating a simple mobile app w/database? Security reasons or just "easier"?

When you're new to Play! it can be quite confusing so I think a bit of terminology is needed.
SBT - Scala build tool. This is a build tool that is baked into every Play! project but totally independent of Play! framework, ie. many Scala projects use this to manage their builds without ever using Play! It's just the Scala equivilient of a Maven, Gradle or Ant. Nothing special.
Activator - This is Play!'s commandline, like a build-tool++. It's commandline tool with a superset of the SBT commands clean compile etc etc, with Play! specific ones like 'new', 'run'. It actually just amounts to not much more than a script (.sh/.bat) which bootstraps SBT and some extra goodness for running play commands. In earlier versions like 1.x this command was named play. Version 2.x was a practically a re-write so you can ignore all related advice.
Play - the playframework itself is just a regular jar (and all its dependencies). It is declared in the project/plugins.sbt
So the reason all the download links point to activator-1.3.6 is because that is just the version of the commandline tool. This will default to latest: 2.4.x.
When you perform an activator new you get a choice of templates. If you REALLY REALLY want to use 2.3.x you could choose this template when prompted hello-play-2_3-scala.
But I don't suggest you do that because:
The documentation for 2.4.x is comprehensive and there are walkthrough guides, it won't take any longer than a youtube video.
There are bug fixes and new features in 2.4.x
2.4.x introduced dependency injection which means it will be harder to upgrade once you'ved developed everything in 2.3x.
Apart from dependency injection most stuff works the same in 2.4.x
Intellij:
Use 14. Play support is improving all the time. If you can use the Early Access Program and the latest version of the Scala plugin.
Don't run 'activator idea' - this is deprecated. File -> open project from Intellij should be enough.
I work on a Java based Play! project for severals months now and I'd like to import it completely in IntelliJ, meaning being able to run, compile, test and debug from IntelliJ, without the need to use the command line.
According to this post from Jetbrain, it seems to be possible, if I quote the article it says clearly : "Now you don’t need to switch between IntelliJ IDEA and Play console anymore. Everything is available right from your favorite IDE.", but I can't figure out a way to achieve this for now, even if I follow the tutorial provided by Jetbrains.
Here are the steps I've been throught :
Open my fav IDE IntelliJ ;)
Go to the project list window.
Import project
Import from external model and choose SBT as suggested in Jetbrains tutorial.
option "Use auto import" checked, option "create directories for empty content roots automatically" checked. Project SDK Java 1.7
Global sbt settings : JVM From project JDK.

By now, if I try to make the project and launch it from IntelliJ, I'll get scala compiling errors related to routes object. Thanks to this post, we can understand that this happens because scala routes are located to specific folders that needs to be included in IntelliJ sources settings for this project. So next step was :
File -> Project Structure -> Modules
Add target/scala-2.10/classes:target/scala-2.10/resources_managed:target/scala-2.10/src_managed as sources folders.
But my problem remains the same, routes object being unrecognized.
Notes : I have no scala facets in my project structure configuration nor can add one.
IntelliJ provides integrated support for the Play Framework for Scala and Java. Support is currently only available in IntelliJ Ultimate Edition (see the Frameworks and Technology section).
Assuming Ultimate Edition, the setup for Play is incredibly easy. Simply create a new project by importing build.sbt, then choose Add Framework Support and choose Play 2.
Once complete, you can start and stop Play using the Play 2 Run/Debug configuration. No command line necessary.

You could try the command play idea if you are using play or activator idea if you are using activator. That will do the magic.
Im creating a JavaFX application in IntelliJ IDEA, and I am new to IntelliJ.
I would like to be able to compile my JavaFX application on a Raspberry Pi, but my app is quite complex and relies on 3rd party libraries, etc.
I would like to be able to see what exactly is going on in IntelliJ when I run "Make Project"
Is there a command line output screen that Im simply missing? I want the exact command that IntelliJ uses to compile the application.
Essentially, on the Pi, I want to get the code from my repo, run the compilation command and produce an executable JAR on demand.
I have of course read the doco on how to compile a JavaFX application, but if I could see what IntelliJ does, that would be fantastic.
So far I haven't found such an option but the process is most likely some sort of flow based on IntelliJ plugins and the documentation seems to support this theory.
Perhaps you'd consider using a software management and build tool such as maven or ant or something similar. This should give you (almost) unlimited options to configure your desired build sequence and 3rd party dependencies.
