Right now I am trying to add sqlite-storage(https://github.com/andpor/react-native-sqlite-storage) and react-native-fs(https://github.com/itinance/react-native-fs/) to a project being done in react-native. Both, however, require me to add some lines of code to the ios and android files. Case is, I created this project using expo, and expo doesn't seem to have those files available.
Currently, I am trying to create some sort of offline storage for my app (I think I'll ditch sqlite because it won't be as necessary and just keep the react-native-fs and write the data on JSON).
I have already tried linking and re-installing it many times and it doesn't seem to work, since it keeps returning the "RNFSManager is undefined" error when I use react-native-fs. A few of the people with this problem I found said they had to manually link, but they all had access to those files I don't have (like setting and gradle, things expo doesn't give me direct access to), so I am not sure what I should do.
SQLite and FileSystem are both included on expo.
First you need to add them to your project with:
expo install expo-sqlite
expo install expo-file-system
Then you only need to import them
import { SQLite } from 'expo-sqlite';
import * as FileSystem from 'expo-file-system';
For more info you can check the expo docs for
FileSystem
and
SQLite
You will need to eject your expo project, so the android and ios folder will be created.
After that, you will be able to add nativecode to your react-native app.
The expo documentation is nicely done, you will have all the infos about the pros and cons of ejecting

is there no way to read serial number using expo. I should be able to read using external packages like react-native-device-info but I can’t do this without expo? because when i install this package i get this and similar errors. I tried react-native link solution but it didn't work. I need to use expo for other reasons so I can't eject it. There is no part in expo device and constants where I can read these properties.
react-native-device-info depends on platform-specific native modules which will not link and compiled with the Expo Go client.
Expo SDK provides a compatible alternative package to use with Expo Go Client - https://docs.expo.dev/versions/latest/sdk/device/
I'm working on react native project and I am using expo. I want to add the react-native-share package to my project, however I keep getting this error before I even add any code.
TypeError: null is not an object (evaluating '_reactNative.NativeModules.RNShare.FACEBOOK')
Now I know that expo has it's own version of the share, however you can't specify where a person can share it too, which honestly makes the feature useless. It seems to be clear that the reason I can't use this package is because I am using expo and can't install pod into the project -- due to expo reject it --. So what should I do? Any suggestions on how to work around this?
You can't normally use dependencies with native code using Expo. At least when using the classic build system (you're using it when you run expo start in the terminal to run your project). react-native-share has native code (you can check that by going to the repo and seeing if the library has ios and android folders) and therefore can't be used with "standard" Expo.
If you want to use custom native code in your project, you either need to eject from Expo to the bare workflow or - a newer option - use Expo EAS and custom dev clients. Expo EAS allows you to stay in the managed workflow and still use native modules. You might need to write something called a config plugin for some of those native dependencies you want to use, but looking at the documentation, react-native-share should be working just fine without a config plugin.
So: Either eject to the Expo bare workflow, or use Expo EAS and custom dev clients to use native dependencies with the Expo managed workflow. Do note however that you need at least Expo SDK 41 to use EAS and custom development clients.
To learn more about migrating from the classic build system to EAS, see Expo's guide / documentation.
I am a newbie and learned react-native expo. I am curious why we can't use any native library with Expo.
For example, if I want to use filesystem on expo I just cant use it, I know expo has it's own file system but I want to use another library but that library requires linking so it is not working in expo. Why is that?
I have tried everything.
This is the library that I want to use ==> https://github.com/itinance/react-native-fs
It requires command : react-native link react-native-fs
How do I do it?
You first have to understand the difference between react-native cli & expo
Please read this documentation to understand the difference
React Native expo uses their own servers to compile your javascript into java and return APK file as a complete APP, and that is the reason you do not need android SDKs or android studio environment on your PC when you are using expo
but when you are using react-native cli you do need the android studio environment such as SDKs, because when you are using cli , it compiles the code using that android studio sdk/environment that you made in your PC that is why you do not need a third party server like expo do.
and thats the reason you get android files right in your react-native project and due to which you can add native modules to it.
However you also have the option to use expo-eject, You can read more about expo-eject in this documentation
Thank You!, Have a great day & welcome to stackoverflow community!.
I use expo SDK v35, and works on the managed workflow (one without eject).
In my project, I face warning whenever I use AsyncStorage as demonstrated by their doc.
This, however, results in following warning being emitted:
Warning: Async Storage has been extracted from react-native core and will be removed in a future release. It can now be installed and imported from '#react-native-community/async-storage' instead of 'react-native'. See https://github.com/react-native-community/react-native-async-storage
I tried to follow the instruction given by this warning, and tried to use #react-native-community/async-storage, but it did not succeed; it appears the library requires some linking, which is not available if you want to work inside the Expo's managed workflow.
Question
What is the proper way to handle AsyncStorage warning when working on expo's managed workflow?
Env
Expo 35.0.0
Recently I began developing a simple app using react native and the expo cli. However, on the react native docs, it seems that asyncStorage is getting deprecated. The solution would normally be to use the react community version but that is not compatible with expo.
https://github.com/react-native-community/async-storage/
There is currently no scope of linking libraries while using the managed workflow of expo. I've faced similiar issues , and was bound to migrate from expo to pure react native. And expo isnt meant for production as apps are slower. Better i would suggest you to migrate to pure React native . Async storage cant be used otherwise and if deprecated , you will be in a great problem in the future for your app.
I have created a react-native app using expo. Now I am looking for share-extension to the app to import CSV data from email attachment to my app.
I have tried npm package but that does not work for me(I was not able to build my project with that npm package in Xcode)
I think react-native or expo does not have any share API
In this picture, you can see how he got the option to import data into the app.
I understand that without share extension API, I think react-native and Expo both are useless because you can create the app but you don't expand it.
Looking for the solution or any other alternate solution.
I'm afraid this is not possible with expo.
First of all, are you looking for a way to create your own extension, or do you just want your app to be in the "open with list" that you have in the screenshot on the right? (Sharing and "open with" are two distinct things.)
If you just want your app to be listed in the standard "open with list", you do not need to use github.com/alinz/react-native-share-extension since it serves a different purpose. To quote the repo:
This is a helper module which brings react native as an engine to drive share extension for your app.
So with the package you can use react native to create your own share extension
To get your app into the "open with list", you need to go to target settings and change it according to the screenshot (example for MS word). Read more about it here. However, I'm afraid you won't be able to do this with expo without ejecting.
How to get the url of the file in react-native? You need to make sure that libRCTLinking.a is in the Link Binary with Libraries in Xcode (it'll probably be there already). And then you can follow the docs and call Linking.getInitialURL to get the file url. Then it really depends on what you want to do with the file. If you need something complicated, you'll likely need to write native code. If you just want to upload the file to some server, then you can make use of blob support that was added to RN 0.54 in this commit. An example of how to use the blob support is here.
