I have found some fixes about this easily. But I can not change the date column datatype from nvarchar to date in SQL Server. It is a deal for me to select between last 7 days.
How can I do this ?
You must use convert date from dd-mm-yyyy to yyyy-mm-dd in SQL Server.
SELECT CONVERT(date,'30-01-2015',103)
First you should be convert and update yyyy-mm-dd your row. After that you can easily get last 7 days.

I need to get all rows from a table that have a date of the last 7 days or greater. My issue is that when the DB was originally setup, someone set it up as VARCHAR. So now I need to CONVERT the String to a DateTime.
The issue is, the format of the Date/Time isn't recognized by SQL. The format is:
2023-01-01T00:00:00.000+0000
If I can trim off the last 8 characters from the string, SQL will recognize it. But I've had no luck thus far. The statement I was attempting was:
SELECT CONVERT(datetime, TRIM('.000+0000' FROM date_col), 127) FROM table_name;
But that resulted in the error:
Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.
Try this
SELECT CAST(LEFT(REPLACE('2023-01-01T00:00:00.000+0000', 'T', ' '), 19) AS DATETIME)
No need for the replace with datetime2(n)
Select WithMS = try_convert(datetime2(3),left('2023-01-01T00:00:00.100+0000',23))
,SansMS = try_convert(datetime2(0),left('2023-01-01T00:00:00.100+0000',23))
Results
WithMS SansMS
2023-01-01 00:00:00.100 2023-01-01 00:00:00
I have a problem with converting a varchar2 fields into a date format.
I got 2 columns with the datatyp varchar2, one is called qtime the other is called ztime. Both fields contain strings in this format (f.e. 152015 -> would be a timestamp 15:20:15).
For reporting reasons I need to convert this fields into a date format, afterwards I want to substract (qtime-ztime) the fields an convert them into the format [hh] (f.e. after the operation 01:20:00 would be -> 01). Is it possible to to this within Oracle SQL 12c? The biggest problem for me right now is that I don't get those Strings converted into a date format.
select TO_DATE(qtime,'MM/DD/YYYY hh24:mi:ss') just gives me
ORA-01861:"literal does not match format string"
select TO_DATE(qtime,'hh24mmss') gives me a wrong Date
01.03.2018
select TO_TIMESTAMP(qtime,'hh24mmss') gives me a wrong Date
01.03.2018 BUT the correct time with f.e. 15:20:15,0000000
Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated
Note: I only have reading rights on the database Oracle 12c, so I need to to this within Statements
"The Database contains another column with the correct date for each time"
The missing piece of the puzzle! Concatenate the two columns to get something which can be converted to an Oracle DATE:
select to_date(qdate||qtime, 'yyyymmddhh24miss') as qdatetime
, to_date(zdate||ztime, 'yyyymmddhh24miss') as zdatetime
from your_table
Once you have done that you can perform arithmetic of the dates e.g.
select id
, zdatetime - qdatetime as time_diff
from ( select id
, to_date(qdate||qtime, 'yyyymmddhh24miss') as qdatetime
, to_date(zdate||ztime, 'yyyymmddhh24miss') as zdatetime
from your_table
)
If you want the number of hours in the difference you can include this expression in the projection of the outer query:
, extract( hour from (zdatetime - qdatetime) day to second) as hrs_ela
First off, if you are trying to convert a varchar2 into a date without specifying neither day nor month, it will default to the first day of the current month:
If you specify a date value without a date, then the default date is the first day of the current month.
You can read up more here
Also in 2nd and 3rd your example, you are using 'hh24mmss' for specifying hour, minute and second components, but do note that correct format for minutes is 'mi' and not 'mm', which is used for months.
So the solution is to concatenate both date and time component when creating the date as the other answer suggested, tho I would recommend using a single date field as it can store the information you need.
I have a column in my table with Dates in the format yyyy-mm-dd I want to convert all the dates in that column to the format mm/dd/yyyy
I am using the below query
UPDATE Test.dbo.Status
SET DateIn = CONVERT(DATE,DateIn ,101)
The DateIn column is defined as Date in my table (DateIn DATE NULL)
The query does no change to the data. am I doing some thing wrong here?
You can change the default format in which SQL Server displays a date, but you can't alter the way a DATE value is stored via CONVERT(). You can format a date however you want if you store it as a string, but you lose functionality when you do that and it's not advisable. If you are hell-bent on storing a formatted version, you might want to create a new VARCHAR() field so you can preserve your DATE version.
You're better off formatting the date at the application level.
The reason your query does nothing is that the actual DATE values are equivalent. Notice when you take any valid date format and CAST() it as DATE the resulting format is the same regardless of the input:
SELECT CAST('20040510' AS DATE)
SELECT CAST('2004-05-10' AS DATE)
SELECT CAST('May 10, 2004' AS DATE)
All return: 2004-05-10 on my instance of SQL Server.
I have a character field that stamps in the order of MMDDYYHHMMSS (note: not a date but character field). I am wanting to kick this out to a date field in my SQL into this format dd.mm.yyyy. hh24:mi.
My problem is that the sql kicks it out to YYYY-MM-DD field without the time. This section of the sql looks like this:
TO_DATE(SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,3,2)||'.'||SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,1,2)
||'.'||'20'||SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,5,2)||'.'||SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,7,2)
||':'||SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,9,2)||':'||SUBSTR(MOPACTIVITY.MOPID,11,2)
, 'dd.mm.yyyy. hh24:mi:ss') "XXX",
Any thoughs on how to get the time to convert too?
No need for such a complicated expression:
to_date(MOPID, 'MMDDYYHH24MISS')
will convert the column to a real DATE column assuming the time part is in 24 hour format (00-23, not 00-12). And this will also fail if you don't really have valid dates in the varchar column.
this out to a date field in my SQL into this format
A DATE column does not have "a format"!
The format is only applied when you display it.
In case you mean you want to convert the varchar stored in your column into another varchar that has a different date formatting, the easiest is probably to simply convert the above expression back to a varchar:
to_char(to_date(MOPID, 'MMDDYYHH24MISS'), 'dd.mm.yyyy. hh24:mi')
Before applying something like that, allow me one comment:
Store dates in DATE columns, never ever store them in a VARCHAR column.
If you had done that from the beginning, all you would have to do know is to simply apply a single to_char() to your DATE column to get the display format you want.
How to get the formatted date in SQL Server CE?
I have a column on a table that contains Date, but the column type is nvarchar
ID Date
----------------------
1 05/08/2012
2 10/08/2012
3 05/10/2012
The date format is MM/dd/yyyy, but it is in nvarchar.
Also, I want to have a WHERE clause to select the ID on a specific date. How can I do that? This is for SQL Server CE. Thank you very much.
you need to cover it use convert or cast function ...
cast(datecolumn as DateTime)
or
CONVERT(datetime,datecolumn,101)
For current date, you can use:
SELECT CONVERT(nvarchar,GETDATE(),101)
Output: (As of answered date)
05/31/2016
