I have the following SQL Server code to get information from a combination of 4 tables.
I would like to modify it to only retrieve the latest 3 orders (pmpOrderDate) by supplier (pmpSupplierOrganizationID).
SELECT
PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID, PO.pmpOrderDate, PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID, O.cmoName
FROM
PurchaseOrders PO
INNER JOIN
PurchaseOrderLines POL ON PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID = POL.pmlPurchaseOrderID
INNER JOIN
Organizations O ON PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID = O.cmoOrganizationID
INNER JOIN
Parts P ON POL.pmlPartID = P.impPartID
WHERE
P.impPartClassID LIKE 'PUMP%'
Can you please help?
EDIT:
I wasn't fully clear on my actual requirements. To clarify further, what I need in the end is to display the latest 3 unique Purchase Orders by Supplier ID based on at least one of the PartClassID for the PartID in the PurchaseOrderLines to have criteria of beginning with string 'PUMP'
Use a ROW_NUMBER to partition by pmpSupplierOrganizationID and order by pmpOrderDate.
with cteTopOrders AS (
SELECT PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID, PO.pmpOrderDate, PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID, O.cmoName,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY pmpSupplierOrganizationID ORDER BY pmpOrderDate DESC) AS RowNum
FROM PurchaseOrders PO
Inner Join PurchaseOrderLines POL ON PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID = POL.pmlPurchaseOrderID
Inner Join Organizations O On PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID = O.cmoOrganizationID
Inner Join Parts P ON POL.pmlPartID = P.impPartID
WHERE P.impPartClassID Like 'PUMP%'
)
SELECT pmpPurchaseOrderID, pmpOrderDate, pmpSupplierOrganizationID, cmoName
FROM cteTopOrders
WHERE RowNum <= 3;
I'm a fan of lateral joins for this . . . cross apply:
select p.*, O.cmoName
from Organizations O cross apply
(select top (3) PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID, PO.pmpOrderDate, PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID
from PurchaseOrders PO join
PurchaseOrderLines POL
on PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID = POL.pmlPurchaseOrderID join
Parts P
on POL.pmlPartID = P.impPartID
where PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID = O.cmoOrganizationID and
P.impPartClassID Like 'PUMP%'
order by PO.pmpOrderDate desc
) p
You need a nested row_number to get the three rows per supplier and another OLAP-function on top of it:
with OrderRowNum as
(
SELECT PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID, PO.pmpOrderDate, PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID, O.cmoName, P.impPartClassID,
row_number()
over (partition by PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID
order by pmpOrderDate desc) as rn
FROM PurchaseOrders PO
Inner Join PurchaseOrderLines POL ON PO.pmpPurchaseOrderID = POL.pmlPurchaseOrderID
Inner Join Organizations O On PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID = O.cmoOrganizationID
Inner Join Parts P ON POL.pmlPartID = P.impPartID
)
, CheckPUMP as
(
select *,
-- check if at least one of the three rows contains PUMP
max(case when impPartClassID Like 'PUMP%' then 1 else 0 end)
over (partition by PO.pmpSupplierOrganizationID) as PUMPflag
from OrderRowNum
where rn <= 3 -- get the last three rows per supplier
)
select *
from CheckPUMP
where flag = 1

I would like to retrieve one large table of products with the latest rows from all the joined tables via with MAX(ID) of each group (productToken) which ich unique name of the product. Joined tables are - products (store), availability (status), description (products), and price of the product. All of them contains the unique productToken and the mentioned tables can be changed over time by adding a new record (independently) so my aim is to compose one big table (with actual info about the products) via retrieving the lastest record from each table. My code is this. First added product worked well, but things got strange after adding new records to any of the tables (query has retrieved no results).
SELECT *
FROM products
JOIN productsStore ON products.productToken = productStore.productToken
JOIN productsStatus ON products.productToken = productsStatus.productToken
JOIN productsPrice ON products.produstToken = productsPrice.productToken
JOIN categories ON products.categoryToken = categories.categoryToken
WHERE products.shopToken = '$shopToken'
AND products.productID IN
(SELECT MAX(productID)
FROM products
GROUP BY productToken)
AND productsPrice.productPriceID IN
(SELECT MAX(productPriceID)
FROM productsPrice
GROUP BY produktToken)
AND productsStatus.productStatusID IN
(SELECT MAX(productStatusID)
FROM productsStatus
GROUP BY productToken)
AND produktyStore.productStoreID IN
(SELECT MAX(productStoreID)
FROM productsStore
GROUP BY productToken)
AND categories.categoryID IN
(SELECT MAX(categoryID)
FROM categories
GROUP BY categoryToken)
ORDER BY categories.categoryID DESC
I would like to retrieve one large table of products with the latest rows from all the joined tables
I think that you want equality conditions with correlated subqueries in the where clause rather than in conditions with aggregate queries. This lets you filter each joined table with the "latest" record for the given productToken.
SELECT *
FROM products p
JOIN productsStore psr ON psr.productToken = p.productToken
JOIN productsStatus psu ON psu.productToken = p.productToken
JOIN productsPrice ppr ON ppr.produstToken = p.productToken
JOIN categories c ON c.categoryToken = p.categoryToken
WHERE
p.shopToken = '$shopToken'
AND p.productID = (SELECT MAX(p1.productID) FROM products p1 WHERE p1.productToken = p.productToken)
AND psr.productStoreID = (SELECT MAX(psr1.productStoreID) FROM productsStore psr1 WHERE psr1.productToken = p.productToken)
AND psu.productStatusID = (SELECT MAX(psu1.productStatusID) FROM productStatus psu1 WHERE psu1.productToken = p.productToken)
AND ppr.productPriceID = (SELECT MAX(ppr1.productPriceID) FROM productsPrice ppr1 WHERE ppr1.productToken = p.productToken)
AND c.categoryID = (SELECT MAX(c1.categoryID) FROM category c1 WHERE c1.productToken = p.productToken)
If you are running MySQL 8.0 (or MariaDB 10.3 or higher), you can use ROW_NUMBER() in subqueries instead:
SELECT *
FROM (
SELECT p.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY productToken ORDER BY productID DESC) rn
FROM products p
) p
INNER JOIN (
SELECT psr.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY productToken ORDER BY productStoreID DESC) rn
FROM productsStore psr
) psr ON psr.productToken = p.productToken AND psr.rn = 1
INNER JOIN (
SELECT psu.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY productToken ORDER BY productStatusID DESC) rn
FROM productsStatus psu
) psu ON psu.productToken = p.productToken AND psu.rn = 1
INNER JOIN (
SELECT ppr.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY productToken ORDER BY productsPriceID DESC) rn
FROM productsPrice ppr
) ppr ON ppr.productToken = p.productToken AND ppr.rn = 1
INNER JOIN (
SELECT c.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY productToken ORDER BY categoryID DESC) rn
FROM categories c
) c ON c.productToken = p.productToken AND c.rn = 1
WHERE p.shopToken = '$shopToken' AND p.rn = 1
I need to select reviews for product, but unique by user (i.e. one review from user).
With my code, I select all reviews, and I can see few reviews left by one user.
SELECT
tr.reviewText, tr.reviewDate, tr.reviewRating,
u.userName AS userName,
u.userFirstName AS userFirstName, u.userSurname AS userSurname,
u.countryId AS countryId
FROM
tblReviews tr
INNER JOIN
tblOrderProduct op ON op.orderProductId = tr.orderProductId
AND op.productOptionId IN (SELECT productOptionId
FROM tblProductOption
WHERE productSubCuId = 111
AND productOptionActive = 1)
LEFT JOIN
tblOrder o ON o.orderId = op.orderId
LEFT JOIN
tblUser u ON u.userRandomId = o.userRandomId
WHERE
tr.reviewsStatusId = 2
ORDER BY
tr.reviewRating DESC, tr.reviewDate DESC
OFFSET 0 ROWS FETCH NEXT 100 ROWS ONLY
Can I get just one review from each user?
Maybe I need select userId -> group results by userId and select one per group? [I tried to do so, but I didn't succeed :( ]
You can use row_number to number the reviews and select any one like below:
;with per_user_one_review
as
(SELECT tr.reviewText, tr.reviewDate, tr.reviewRating,
u.userName as userName,
u.userFirstName as userFirstName, u.userSurname as userSurname,
u.countryId as countryId, row_number() over (partition by u.userRandomId order by tr.reviewDate desc) rn
FROM tblReviews tr
INNER JOIN tblOrderProduct op
ON op.orderProductId = tr.orderProductId
AND op.productOptionId IN (
SELECT productOptionId FROM tblProductOption
WHERE productSubCuId = 111 AND productOptionActive = 1
)
LEFT JOIN tblOrder o ON o.orderId = op.orderId
LEFT JOIN tblUser u ON u.userRandomId = o.userRandomId
WHERE tr.reviewsStatusId = 2
ORDER BY tr.reviewRating DESC, tr.reviewDate DESC
OFFSET 0 ROWS FETCH NEXT 100 ROWS ONLY
)
select * from per_user_one_review where rn = 1
It will pick the latest review (reviewDate desc) from the user.
If you need the last review you could use a join with the suquery for max review date grouped by orderProductId
(and as a suggestion you could use a inner join instead of a IN clasue based on a subquery)
select tr.reviewText
, tr.reviewDate
, tr.reviewRating
, u.userName
, u.userFirstName
, u.userSurname
, u.countryId
from tblReviews tr
INNER JOIN (
select max(reviewDate) max_date, orderProductId
from tblReviews
group by orderProductId
) t1 on t1.orderProductId = tr.orderProductId and t1.max_date = tr.reviewDate
INNER JOIN tblOrderProduct op ON op.orderProductId = tr.orderProductId
INNER JOIN (
SELECT productOptionId
FROM tblProductOption
WHERE productSubCuId = 111 AND productOptionActive = 1
) t2 ON op.productOptionId = t2.productOptionId
LEFT JOIN tblOrder o ON o.orderId = op.orderId
LEFT JOIN tblUser u ON u.userRandomId = o.userRandomId
WHERE tr.reviewsStatusId = 2
ORDER BY tr.reviewRating DESC, tr.reviewDate DESC
OFFSET 0 ROWS FETCH NEXT 100 ROWS ONLY
I have two different sources of information and I am trying to marry them together to get information relating to a customer and their last bill. I have managed to get details of each customer and their max billing period end date but I am unsure as to how I can then get the details from the associated bill. I have the following query:
SELECT new_mprnnumber,
new_customernumber,
MAX(b.billingPeriodEndDate) as 'Billed up to date'
FROM [CRM].[crm4_MSCRM].[dbo].[AccountExtensionBase] as a
inner join Billing.dbo.bill as b
on a.new_mprnnumber = b.MPRN
where new_accountstage = 7
and new_accounttype = 2
group by new_mprnnumber,
new_customernumber
GO
The bill has fields like amount due etc but I only want to return details of those from the max dated bill, any help would be greatly appreciated
Use a CTE with row_number()
with CTE as
(
select a.new_mprnnumber,
a.new_customernumber,
b.*,
row_number()
over (partition by new_customernumber -- add additional partitions as you would group bys
order by billingPeriodEndDate desc) as r_ord
from AccountExtensionBase a
inner join bill b
on a.new_mprnnumber = b.MPRN
where new_accountstage = 7
and new_accounttype = 2
)
select *
from CTE
where r_ord = 1
Put your query into a CTE and then link back to table bill:
WITH CTE AS (
SELECT new_mprnnumber,
new_customernumber,
MAX(b.billingPeriodEndDate) as MaxBillDate
FROM [CRM].[crm4_MSCRM].[dbo].[AccountExtensionBase] as a
inner join Billing.dbo.bill as b
on a.new_mprnnumber = b.MPRN
where new_accountstage = 7
and new_accounttype = 2
group by new_mprnnumber,
new_customernumber
)
SELECT b.*
FROM CTE c
INNER JOIN Billing.dbo.bill b ON c.MaxBillDate = b.billingPeriodEndDate AND c.new_mprnnumber = b.MPRN
The Query below produces a record for each Entry in the SP_ScheduleEvent Table.
SELECT m.MaterialId, m.MaterialTitle, se.EventDateTime, c.ChannelName
FROM GB_Material m
LEFT OUTER JOIN SP_ScheduleEvent se on se.MaterialName = m.MaterialName
INNER JOIN SP_Schedule s on s.ScheduleID = se.ScheduleID
INNER JOIN GB_Channel c on c.ChannelID = s.ChannelID
WHERE LOWER(m.MaterialName) like '%foo%' OR LOWER(m.MaterialTitle) like '%foo%'
I want to limit the result set by the nearest future EventDateTime.
So per material name i would like to see one EventDateTime, which should be the nearest future date to the current time.
And lastly, a record may not exist in the SP_ScheduleEvent table for a particular materialname, in which case there should be null returned for the EventDateTime column
SQLFiddle
How would i go about doing this?
First, your LEFT JOIN is immaterial, because the subsequent joins make it an INNER JOIN. Either use LEFT JOIN throughout the FROM statement or switch to INNER JOIN.
I think you can use ROW_NUMBER():
SELECT t.*
FROM (SELECT m.MaterialId, m.MaterialName, m.MaterialTitle, se.EventDateTime,
ROW_NUMBER() over (PARTITION BY m.MaterialId OVER se.EventDateTime DESC) as seqnum
FROM GB_Material m INNER JOIN
SP_ScheduleEvent se
on se.MaterialName = m.MaterialName INNER JOIN
SP_Schedule s
on s.ScheduleID = se.ScheduleID INNER JOIN
GB_Channel c
on c.ChannelID = s.ChannelID
WHERE se.EventDateTime > getdate() AND
(LOWER(m.MaterialName) like '%foo%' OR LOWER(m.MaterialTitle) like '%foo%')
) t
WHERE seqnum = 1
ORDER BY se.EventDateTime;
Use the ROW_NUMBER() function:
WITH cte AS (
SELECT m.MaterialId, m.MaterialTitle, se.EventDateTime, c.ChannelName,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY m.MaterialId ORDER BY EventDateTime ASC) AS rn
FROM GB_Material m
LEFT OUTER JOIN SP_ScheduleEvent se on se.MaterialName = m.MaterialName
LEFT OUTER JOIN SP_Schedule s on s.ScheduleID = se.ScheduleID
LEFT OUTER JOIN GB_Channel c on c.ChannelID = s.ChannelID
WHERE LOWER(m.MaterialName) like '%foo%' OR LOWER(m.MaterialTitle) like '%foo%'
AND se.EventDateTime > GETDATE()
)
SELECT * FROM cte
WHERE rn=1
I'm trying to join multiple tables, but one of the tables has multiple records for a partid with different dates. I want to get the record with the most recent date.
Here are some example tables:
Table: MyParts
Partid Partnumber Description
1 ABC-123 Pipe
2 ABC-124 Handle
3 ABC-125 Light
Table: MyPrices
Partid Price PriceDate
1 $1 1/1/2005
1 $2 1/1/2007
1 $3 1/1/2009
2 $2 1/1/2005
2 $4 1/1/2006
2 $5 1/1/2008
3 $10 1/1/2008
3 $12 1/1/2009
If I was just wanted to find the most recent price for a certain part I could do:
SELECT * FROM MyPrice WHERE PriceDate = (SELECT MAX(PriceDate)
FROM MyPrice WHERE Partid = 1)
However I want to do a join first and get back the correct price for all parts not just one. This is what I have tried:
SELECT * FROM MyParts LEFT JOIN MyPrice ON MyParts.Partid = MyPrice.Partid WHERE
MyPart.PriceDate = (SELECT MAX(PriceDate) FROM MyPrice)
The results are wrong as it takes the highest price date of the entire table.
SELECT * FROM MyParts LEFT JOIN MyPrice ON MyParts.Partid = MyPrice.Partid WHERE
MyPart.PriceDate = (SELECT MAX(PriceDate) FROM MyPrice WHERE MyPrice.Partid =
MyParts.Partid)
That errors out.
What can I do to get the results I want.
Here's another way to do it without subqueries. This method will often outperform others, so it's worth testing both methods to see which gives the best performance.
SELECT
PRT.PartID,
PRT.PartNumber,
PRT.Description,
PRC1.Price,
PRC1.PriceDate
FROM
MyParts PRT
LEFT OUTER JOIN MyPrices PRC1 ON
PRC1.PartID = PRT.PartID
LEFT OUTER JOIN MyPrices PRC2 ON
PRC2.PartID = PRC1.PartID AND
PRC2.PriceDate > PRC1.PriceDate
WHERE
PRC2.PartID IS NULL
This will give multiple results if you have two prices with the same EXACT PriceDate (Most other solutions will do the same). Also, I there is nothing to account for the last price date being in the future. You may want to consider a check for that regardless of which method you end up using.
Try this:
Select *,
Price = (Select top 1 Price
From MyPrices
where PartID = mp.PartID
order by PriceDate desc
)
from MyParts mp
SELECT
MyParts.*,MyPriceDate.Price,MyPriceDate.PriceDate
FROM MyParts
INNER JOIN (SELECT Partid, MAX(PriceDate) AS MaxPriceDate FROM MyPrice GROUP BY Partid) dt ON MyParts.Partid = dt.Partid
INNER JOIN MyPrice ON dt.Partid = MyPrice.Partid AND MyPrice.PriceDate=dt.MaxPriceDate
In SQL Server 2005 and later use ROW_NUMBER():
SELECT * FROM
( SELECT p.*,
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY Partid ORDER BY PriceDate DESC) AS rn
FROM MyPrice AS p ) AS t
WHERE rn=1
Something like this
SELECT *
FROM MyParts
LEFT JOIN
(
SELECT MAX(PriceDate), PartID FROM MyPrice group by PartID
) myprice
ON MyParts.Partid = MyPrice.Partid
If you know your partid or can restrict it put it inside the join.
SELECT myprice.partid, myprice.partdate, myprice2.Price, *
FROM MyParts
LEFT JOIN
(
SELECT MAX(PriceDate), PartID FROM MyPrice group by PartID
) myprice
ON MyParts.Partid = MyPrice.Partid
Inner Join MyPrice myprice2
on myprice2.pricedate = myprice.pricedate
and myprice2.partid = myprice.partid
SELECT
*
FROM
(SELECT MAX(PriceDate) AS MaxP, Partid FROM MyPrices GROUP BY Partid) MaxP
JOIN
MyPrices MP On MaxP.Partid = MP.Partid AND MaxP.MaxP = MP.PriceDate
JOIN
MyParts P ON MP.Partid = P.Partid
You to get the latest pricedate for partid first (a standard aggregate), then join it back to get the prices (which can't be in the aggregate), followed by getting the part details.
Join on the prices table, and then select the entry for the last day:
select pa.partid, pa.Partnumber, max(pr.price)
from myparts pa
inner join myprices pr on pr.partid = pa.partid
where pr.PriceDate = (
select max(PriceDate)
from myprices
where partid = pa.partid
)
The max() is in case there are multiple prices per day; I'm assuming you'd like to display the highest one. If your price table has an id column, you can avoid the max() and simplify like:
select pa.partid, pa.Partnumber, pr.price
from myparts pa
inner join myprices pr on pr.partid = pa.partid
where pr.priceid = (
select max(priceid)
from myprices
where partid = pa.partid
)
P.S. Use wcm's solution instead!
All other answers must work, but using your same syntax (and understanding why the error)
SELECT * FROM MyParts LEFT JOIN MyPrice ON MyParts.Partid = MyPrice.Partid WHERE
MyPart.PriceDate = (SELECT MAX(MyPrice2.PriceDate) FROM MyPrice as MyPrice2
WHERE MyPrice2.Partid = MyParts.Partid)
Please try next code example:
select t1.*, t2.partprice, t2.partdate
from myparts t1
join myprices t2
on t1.partid = t2.partid
where partdate =
(select max(partdate) from myprices t3
where t3.partid = t2.partid group by partid)
For MySQL, please find the below query:
select * from (select PartID, max(Pricedate) max_pricedate from MyPrices group bu partid) as a
inner join MyParts b on
(a.partid = b.partid and a.max_pricedate = b.pricedate)
Inside the subquery it fetches max pricedate for every partyid of MyPrices then,
inner joining with MyParts using partid and the max_pricedate
