I have been trying to remove the .html extensions, and add a trailing slash in the end of URL bar.
I have certain instance like below
So if someone enters:
example.com -- goes to-- example.com/
example.com/index.html -- goes to - example.com/
example.com/index -- goes to -- example.com/
and
example.com/first-page.html -- goes to -- example.com/main-page/ but coming as example.com/main-page
example.com/parent-page/index.html -- goes to -- example.com/parent-page/ (working)
example.com/parent-page/child-page.html/ -- goes to -- example.com/parent-page/child-page/ but comes as example.com/parent-page/child-page
Here is my .htaccess, I want add the trailing slash at the end of url.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/$ $1.html
# Forces a trailing slash to be added
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,5}|/)$
RewriteRule (.*)$ /$1/ [R=301,L]
Any one could please help me out, I would really appreciate it.
If you want to remove the .html extension from an HTML file, for example, yoursite.com/wallpaper.html to yoursite.com/wallpaper you simply have to alter the last line from the code above to match the filename
Removing Extensions .html
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.html [NC,L]
Adding a trailing slash at the end
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/$ $1.html
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)/$ /$1/$2.html
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,5}|/)$
RewriteRule (.*)$ /$1/ [R=301,L]

I have made sure that rewrite engine is enabled and removing .php extensions is working so I know that isn't the issue.
what I'm trying to do is simply remove the ?id=value aspect of the URL, so basically making the URL look like such:
folder/medias/value
Instead of
folder/medias?id=value
My current .htaccess looks like this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^404/?$ /404.php [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^ 404.php [L,R]
With your shown samples/attempts, please try following htaccess Rules. Please make sure to clear your browser cache before testing your URLs.
RewriteEngine ON
##Rules for external rewrite.
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/([^.]*)\.php\?id=(\S+)\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1/%2? [R=301,L]
##Rule for internal rewrite.
RewriteRule ^([^/]*)/([^/]*)/?$ $1?id=$3 [L]
You may try this code inside the /folder/.htaccess (create this file if it doesn't exist):
RewriteEngine On
# External redirect from /folder/media?id=val to /folder/media/val
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /(\S+?)\.php\?id=([^&\s]+)\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /folder/%1/%2? [R=301,L,NE]
# Internal rewrite from /folder/media/val to /folder/media?id=val
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([\w-]+)/([\w-]+)/?$ $1.php?id=$2 [L,QSA]
Trailing ? in first rule is to remove query string from original URL.
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f and %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d is to skip existing files and directories from rewrite in 2nd rule.
There appears to be many questions like this here but can't find an answer that fits my current code:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^ public/index.php [QSA,L]
This redirects everything to public/index.php which works fine but I want to get rid of the trailing slash so that example.com/foo/ becomes example.com/foo
You can insert a trailing slash removal code before your current rule:
RewriteEngine On
## Unless directory, remove trailing slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(.+)/+$
RewriteRule ^ %1 [R=301,NE,L]
## forward all requests to public/index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^ public/index.php [L]
I would like to rewrite all urls from say, www.example.com to www.example.com/
I have a rule that adds the forward slash:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*[^/])$ /$1/ [L,R=301]
I would like to create another rule. It's purpose is to check if a trailing slash is present. If so, it then removes it for processing without altering the URL shown in the browser.
Can this be done?
You can use these 2 rules for that:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+(.*?)[^/][?\s]
RewriteRule [^/]$ %{REQUEST_URI}/ [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.+?)/$ /$1 [L]
I want link to be redirected in a manner such that url with not slash at the end should be redirected to the url with the slash at the end.
example 1:
http://example.com/quiz/funny-riddles-with-answers
should be redirect to
http://example.com/quiz/funny-riddles-with-answers/
example 2
http://example.com/quiz/math-riddles-with-answers
should be redirected to
I have no idea how to do it.
my current screen shot of .htacess is
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /quiz/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)?$ mypage.php?param1=$1¶m2=$2 [L,QSA]
Try these rules in /quiz/.htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /quiz/
# add a trailing slash for non-directories
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s(.+?[^/])[?\s]
RewriteRule ^ %1/ [R=301,L,NE]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)/?$ mypage.php?param1=$1¶m2=$2 [L,QSA]
You can easily rewrite to a trailing slash using:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*[^/])$ /$1/ [L,R=301]
Place above your already existing rewrites.
You need to change your current rule's pattern to: ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)?/?$
then add this right under RewriteBase /quiz/:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)/([^/]+)$ /$1/$2/ [L,R=301]
I have just migrated a site from Joomla to WordPress, everything works, but I need a rule to remove date+time block from url.
Old URLs were like this
domain.tld/201009081045/category/subcategory/article.html
I have removed .html part with this:
#BEGIN sjebani linkovi fix
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.html -f
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1.html [L,QSA]
#301 da izbaci html
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.*\.html\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ /$1 [R=301,L]
#END sjebani linkovi fix
And I tried removing the first number block with this:
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule /^[0-9]{6-13}$ /$1 [R=301,L]
My logic is to find string that has only numbers is longer than 6 chars and shorter than 13, because I need date archives active (domain.tld/2008/12/01, etc...).
How can I remove first number block with mod_rewrite?
Your regex is a little wonky and you need to match everything that's after the date in order for your $1 backreference to work:
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^[0-9]{6,13}/(.*)$ /$1 [R=301,L]
