Linux-Headers for Different Kernel Version than installed - module

How can you get the Linux-Headers for a different Kernel Version than the one installed on the system?(Debian) I searched the whole Web and couldn't find anything other than that you can download the Headers for you current running kernel, why is it so hard to get the Headers for a non running kernel?
I need the 4.16 headers to compile a LKM, but im running on 4.9.

You can get the kernel headers and source for any of the standard releases from:
git clone https://github.com/torvalds/linux
Or from: https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/
If pulling from the git repo, you will need to checkout the specific version you wish to build for. In your case:
git checkout v4.16

How to handle package dependencies for some build targets when building with Copr?

I want to have a rpm package build with Copr1. My current build target list is Fedora 35, 36, rawhide and Centos 7 and Stream 8. I have not yet created the copr project.
Compiling on one of my machines, the package builds successfully on the Fedora variants with mock. The problem is that on Centos variants one of the build dependencies and some of its dependencies are not available. I have found appropriate srpm files and compiled them on one of my machines with the Centos Stream 8 (one of them required two custom patches). With those custom dependencies I am able to successfully compile the original package.
So just to be clear, the problem is that the spec file contains for example
BuildRequires: libsomething
where libsomething is available as a plain upstream package in some of the build targets while needs an additional custom repo for some other build targets.
The FAQ says the following about dependencies:
Can I depend on other packages, which are not in Fedora/EPEL?
Yes, they just need to be available in some yum repository. It can either be another Copr repo or a third-party yum repo (e.g jpackage). Click on “Edit” in your project and add the appropriate repositories into the “Repos” field. Packages from your project are available to be used at build time as well, but only for the project you are currently building and not from your other projects.
But this sounds like an all or nothing approach, and I absolutely do not want to override the already existing upstream packages, only provide them when they are missing.
So what strategy do people use to handle this?
Update: I have now created copr projects and made some attempts at building (after resolving dependencies of dependencies in several levels), but the problem is as I describe above. If I add copr://hlovdal/projectname as a build dependency then epel-8-x86_64 compiles fine because it is provided with the missing dependencies while fedora-35-x86_64 fails because the repository does not have any fedora packages. If I remove the repo epel fails while fedora succeeds.
I also attempted to add the base url from the corresponding /etc/yum.d.repo file, and only hardcode epel instead of $distname hoping that the fedora builds would just ignore non-existing/wrong repo setting, but the build does not like that and still fails.

CMake failing to build, can't find openssl

I'm trying to build cpp-netlib 0.12.0 stable in Ubuntu 18.04, but when I get to running
$ make -j4
I get a lot of errors, such as:
error: ‘SSL_R_SHORT_READ’ was not declared in this scope
ERR_PACK(ERR_LIB_SSL, 0, SSL_R_SHORT_READ)
Google told me this was because the make variables -DOPENSSL_INCLUDE_DIR and -DOPENSSL_SSL_LIBRARY need to be defined. However, I can't find the directories/libraries I need to set them to. Examples give /usr/lib/openssl-1.0 and /usr/include/openssl-1.0, but I can't find anything like those, even though I have the latest version of openssl installed through apt-get.
My /usr/include directory contains the folder 'openssl', but usr/lib doesn't have even that, only 'openssh', which doesn't appear to contain anything relevant.
How can I fix this?
Fixed by cloning latest version from git repository and building from that.

Conan, C++ package manager, don't work for boost

I run: conan install Boost/1.64.0#conan/stable, and it fails.

How to debug it?
Conan is a decentralized package manager (kind of git-like style), so it can have many remotes. By default it comes configured with 2 remotes:
conan-transit: Is a read-only copy of the old conan.io repository, which contains many different Boost packages, from different authors. Quality is variable, so some packages might work only for certain OS, or might fail for some configurations.
conan-center: It is a moderated/reviewed repository, package creators can submit inclusion requests to share their packages with the community.
So far conan-transit contains several Boost/1.64 packages, so can check it with:
$ conan search Boost* -r=conan-transit
$ conan search Boost* -r=conan-center
As you can see the package you are trying to install doesn't exist in these repositories.
As I said above, conan is decentralized, so you can use different remotes. For example, the "bincrafters" community has a bintray repo that can be added with:
$ conan remote add bincrafters https://api.bintray.com/conan/bincrafters/public-conan
$ conan search Boost* -r=bincrafters
You will see they have a large number of Boost/1.64 packages, because they have created a modularized version of boost, in which every library lives in a different package, so you only get installed what you need.
UPDATE: Packages in the central repository are being renamed by the community to lowercase. Try with boost lowercase in the above if necessary.

ownCloud Desktop Client Theming

I have been trying to build the desktop client for about a week now so that I can dig in and try to mess with some theming and turn off some features I wont be needing. In the process I have run into numerous issues and have managed to resolve them in one way or another. I have a VM running openSUSE and I have downloaded the source file ownCloudClient-2.3.2.tar.xz file and unzipped it all into my home/jwarren/client folder. I then ran:
cd admin/win/docker
docker build . -t owncloud-client-win32:
Which I was able to get through. Now I am on the second command:
docker run -v "$PWD:/home/user/client" owncloud-client-win32: \
/home/user/client/admin/win/docker/build.sh client/ $(id -u)
Here I am getting almost to the end and then I receive this error message which I cant figure out how to resolve.
CPack Error: Problem running NSIS command "user/bin/makensis"

Can anyone help me out with this? Or maybe point me in the direction of better instructions for the ownCloud Desktop Client theming. I noticed that once you get it installed properly there is no instructions explaining where anything is to edit.

What you're probably missing out is the git-submodule initialization; i.e. running git submodule update --init on your unzipped repository. You need these to bundle on the installer some pre-compiled binaries used by the shell integrations.
Also, on a side note, there was some problems last month with mingw toolchain compiler (gcc7) - in case you get some dll error after installing the client with your self-generated installer, refer to https://central.owncloud.org/t/building-the-windows-installer/8403/4 for an snapshot of a fully working Docker image to use instead of your self-built.

Installing systemc SCV library on x86-64 machine

When I tried to install the SCV library, I came accross with the following problem:
"checking build system type... Invalid configuration x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu': machine x86_64-unknown' not recognized "
I copied the 'config.guess' and 'config.sub' from /usr/share/libtool/config to overwrite the existing 'config.guess' and 'config.sub' of SCV. Then I can configure further, but new problem is:
"configure: error: Target CPU type not supported: "x86_64""
I think SCV should support x86_64 target, so how can I solve this problem?

The SCV does not support x86_64 in its original configuration. Please see the patch at http://thawedoutnow.blogspot.tw/2013/02/scv-for-x8664-linux-patch.html. Your system might also need GNU automake, autoconf, m4, and some development tools to generate the new configure file.
