How can I access data in asyncData with Nuxt - vue.js

I'm attempting to build a server-side sortable table with Nuxt, and I'd like to be able to specify the default sort column and direction in my Vue data, and access that in my asyncData function. Something like this:
<script>
export default {
async asyncData ({ $axios, params }) {
const things = await $axios.$get(`/api/things`, {
params: {
sort_column: this.sortColumn,
sort_ascending: this.sortAscending,
}
});
return { things };
},
data () {
return {
sortColumn: 'created_at',
sortAscending: true
}
},
// ...
}
</script>
But it appears that data is not yet available, as this.sortColumn and this.sortAscending are not defined. How can I access these defaults when asyncData runs while also allowing them to be changed when the user interacts with the page. (Alternatively, what's a better way to structure this?)
Note: This question was asked here, but the accepted answer is not relevant to this situation.

You can just return it all into asyncData. E.g. something like this:
async asyncData ({ $axios, params }) {
const sortColumn = 'created_at'
const sortAscending = true
const things = await $axios.$get(`/api/things`, {
params: {
sort_column: sortColumn,
sort_ascending: this.sortAscending,
}
});
return { things, sortColumn, sortAscending };
},
And it will behave like you want.

Using XState in Nuxt 3 with asynchronous functions

I am using XState as a state manager for a website I build in Nuxt 3.
Upon loading some states I am using some asynchronous functions outside of the state manager. This looks something like this:
import { createMachine, assign } from "xstate"
// async function
async function fetchData() {
const result = await otherThings()
return result
}
export const myMachine = createMachine({
id : 'machine',
initial: 'loading',
states: {
loading: {
invoke: {
src: async () =>
{
const result = await fetchData()
return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
if(account != undefined){
resolve('account connected')
}else {
reject('no account connected')
}
})
},
onDone: [ target: 'otherState' ],
onError: [ target: 'loading' ]
}
}
// more stuff ...
}
})
I want to use this state machine over multiple components in Nuxt 3. So I declared it in the index page and then passed the state to the other components to work with it. Like this:
<template>
<OtherStuff :state="state" :send="send"/>
</template>
<script>
import { myMachine } from './states'
import { useMachine } from "#xstate/vue"
export default {
setup(){
const { state, send } = useMachine(myMachine)
return {state, send}
}
}
</script>
And this worked fine in the beginning. But now that I have added asynchronous functions I ran into the following problem. The states in the different components get out of sync. While they are progressing as intended in the index page (going from 'loading' to 'otherState') they just get stuck in 'loading' in the other component. And not in a loop, they simply do not progress.
How can I make sure that the states are synced in all my components?

Cannot use Vue-Router to get the parameters in the URL

Today, when trying to use Vue-Router (in Vue-CLI) to get URL parameters, I encountered difficulties ($route.query is empty), the code is as follows.
Code purpose: Get the parameters carried after the URL (such as client_id in "http://localhost:8080/#/?client_id=00000000000077")
Project file structure:
router/index.js:
App.vue(Get part of the code for URL parameters):
The running result of this part of the code:
I'm not sure why $router.currentRoute and $route aren't matching up, but you could simply use $router.currentRoute.query.client_id if you need it in mounted().
Another workaround is to use a $watch on $route.query.client_id:
export default {
mounted() {
const unwatch = this.$watch('$route.query.client_id', clientId => {
console.log({ clientId })
// no need to continue watching
unwatch()
})
}
}
Or watch in the Composition API:
import { watch } from 'vue'
import { useRoute } from 'vue-router'
export default {
mounted() {
console.log({
route: this.$route,
router: this.$router,
})
},
setup() {
const route = useRoute()
const unwatch = watch(() => route.query.client_id, clientId => {
console.log({ clientId })
// no need to continue watching
unwatch()
})
}
}

How to use Nuxt Context to call Axios request with param

so I'm trying to get my Axios to do a get request with a param that'll end the url in
'/?user= {id}'
the id is passed in by my loggedInUser.id from Vuex. I know that async functions won't accept 'this' inside the call so I included store as a parameter. Something's still off with how I passed the data around thought I think. Would appreciate any help, thanks!
import { mapGetters } from "vuex";
export default {
computed: {
...mapGetters(["loggedInUser"])
},
head() {
return {
title: "Actors list"
};
},
components: {
EditProfile
},
async asyncData({ store }) {
try {
const body = { data: store.getters.loggedInUser.id };
const { actors } = await $axios.$get(`/api/v1/actors/`, {
params: {
user: body
}
});
return { actors };
} catch (e) {
return { actors: [] };
}
},
data() {
return {
actors: []
};
Edit
I got it to work when I removed the data: from 'const body' and removed the brackets as well around 'actor'
try {
const body = store.getters.loggedInUser.id;
const actors = await $axios.$get(`/api/v1/actors/`, {
params: {
user: body
}
});
You can access your params from Context.
Context is available in special nuxt lifecycle areas like asyncData, fetch, plugins, middleware and nuxtServerInit.
In Nuxt, with asyncData hook you can get query parameters from the route context key.
Please read the Nuxt.js Context documentation. The context provides additional objects/params from Nuxt to Vue components
With your-domain/?user=wonderman
asyncData({ route: { query: queryParams} }) {},
variable queryParams is an object:
{ user: "wonderman" }

NuxtJS - Prevent fetch if data already exists in state?

I have a portfolio site built using NuxtJS and a headless Wordpress CMS. On several pages, I'm importing a mixin that looks like this:
import { mapActions, mapState } from 'vuex';
export default {
computed: {
...mapState({
galleries: state => state.portfolio.galleries[0],
})
},
methods: {
...mapActions('portfolio', ['fetchGalleries']),
},
async fetch() {
await this.fetchGalleries();
}
}
The Vuex module looks like this:
export const state = () => ({
galleries: [],
});
export const actions = {
async fetchGalleries({ commit }) {
let res = await this.$axios.$get(`${process.env.WP_API_URL}/wp/v2/media`);
const data = res.reduce((acc, item) => {
const { slug } = item.acf.category;
(acc[slug] || (acc[slug] = [])).push(item);
return acc;
}, {});
commit('setGalleries', data);
}
};
export const mutations = {
setGalleries(state, data) {
state.galleries.push(data);
}
};
fetch is being used in the mixin to return data from the api before page load. I noticed however that each time I navigate to a new page, it's running that same fetch and continually adding duplicate data to Vuex state.
How do I prevent fetch from running and continually adding duplicate data to my state if it already exists?
I'm not sure why this was tripping me up so much, but I figured out a very simple solution.
async fetch() {
if (this.galleries.length) return;
await this.fetchGalleries();
}
Just added a conditional return statement as the first line within the fetch function.

vuejs2: how can i destroy a watcher?

How can i destroy this watcher? I need it only one time in my child component, when my async data has loaded from the parent component.
export default {
...
watch: {
data: function(){
this.sortBy();
},
},
...
}
gregor ;)
If you construct a watcher dynamically by calling vm.$watch function, it returns a function that may be called at a later point in time to disable (remove) that particular watcher.
Don't put the watcher statically in the component, as in your code, but do something like:
created() {
var unwatch = this.$watch(....)
// now the watcher is watching and you can disable it
// by calling unwatch() somewhere else;
// you can store the unwatch function to a variable in the data
// or whatever suits you best
}
More thorough explanation may be found from here: https://codingexplained.com/coding/front-end/vue-js/adding-removing-watchers-dynamically
Here is an example:
<script>
export default {
data() {
return {
employee: {
teams: []
},
employeeTeamsWatcher: null,
};
},
created() {
this.employeeTeamsWatcher = this.$watch('employee.teams', (newVal, oldVal) => {
this.setActiveTeamTabName();
});
},
methods: {
setActiveTeamTabName() {
if (this.employee.teams.length) {
// once you got your desired condition satisfied then unwatch by calling:
this.employeeTeamsWatcher();
}
},
},
};
</script>
If you are using vue2 using the composition-api plugin or vue3, you can use WatchStopHandle which is returned by watch e.g.:
const x = ref(0);
setInterval(() => {
x.value++;
}, 1000);
const unwatch = watch(
() => x.value,
() => {
console.log(x.value);
x.value++;
// stop watch:
if (x.value > 3) unwatch();
}
);
For this kind of stuff, you can investigate the type declaration of the API, which is very helpful, just hover the mouse on it, and it will show you a hint about what you can do:
