Javafx Handle Button gettext null pointer exception - nullpointerexception

Question

I am trying to write a function in Javafx that validates the username and password in database. However when I try to get text from text field or password field I get null pointer exception. I don't understand what is wrong in the code, I tried to debug it but I couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I managed to solve the problem, I just had to replace "id" in fxml to "fx: id"
