I'm using a cPanel host, which, unfortunately, does not allow me access to Apache conf files in order to set up any VirtualHosts. I have my domain in a subfolder. I'm now also trying to force SSL as well as forcing www.
My requirements:
Domain needs to be in a subfolder, since I also have other domains
Force SSL
Force www. in the URL
The following is what I have in my .htaccess file:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?example.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subfolder/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subfolder/$1
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)example.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ subfolder/index.php [L]
I've made various attempts that seem to get me one or two of my requirements, but not all of them at the same time.
Any help is appreciated.
I was almost there. After, the second line, I had to add a couple of RewriteConds. Not on HTTPS or, not on www:
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com$ [NC]
The final set of rules:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?example.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subfolder/
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://www.example.com%{REQUEST_URI} [NE,L,R]
RewriteRule ^$ /subfolder/ [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subfolder/$1 [L]
Tested, and it forces SSL, and WWW in the domain, and keeps everything in the subfolder.

I have web site that I want to resolve the www and non www issues. I tried to using this below code from the .htaccess file. But no result.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://www.w15.lk%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L,NE]
# Remove Trailing Slashes...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s(.+?)/+[?\s]
RewriteRule ^(.+?)/$ /$1 [R=301,L,NE]
# Handle Front Controller...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
You were close with your attempt. Try and use this instead:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.w15.lk/$1 [L,R=302,NC]
I've set the R flag as 302 to make it a temporary redirect for testing. If this works, change it to 301 to make it permanent.
Don't forget to clear your cache before testing this.
This is my current htaccess.
Site
|.htaccess
|--/folder-1
|--/folder-2
Now my root htaccess is as follows:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^site.com$ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^site.com$
RewriteRule ^/?$ /public/ [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/public/
RewriteRule ^(.*) /public/$1 [L]
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.*)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L]
I want users to access all files and folders inside folder 1 and folder 2. How that can be done?
Several changes: do your domain redirect first (note the subtle changes);
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+) [NC]
RewriteRule .* http://%1/$0 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^site\.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(?!(?:folder-1|folder-2)(?:$|/)|public/(?:index\.php)?$).* public/$0 [L]
This incorporates the folders you're excluding from rewriting into the main rule, so should be more efficient. It looks ugly since it starts with a negative look-ahead assertion (?! and the rest of the groups begin with (?: so they are non-capturing.
Do you really need a single domain? If so, it should be checked on all requests. If not, drop the first RewriteCond of the second RewriteRule.
if your default document is not index.php, change it in the negative look-ahead assertion of the second RewriteRule.
This may have been asked before but I can't find an answer.
I have recently purchased an SSL certificate and I need help setting up the .htaccess file.
I am using the MVC design pattern so every page goes though index.php
This is my current .htaccess configuration and all pages go through https
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
I have read that using https on the whole site adds overheads. Would it be possible to add rules for specific pages such as login/register/forgot password that would redirect to https instead of http?
To redirect specific pages to https:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# specific pages to https
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /(login|register|forgotPassword) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
# all other pages to http
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} !/(login|register|forgotPassword) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]
I have been trying to redirect to a different folder with .htaccess when I hit a domain.
Here's my .htaccess redirect rule, can you tell me where am I wrong?
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?racereadymotorsports.in$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /raceready/$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?annelies-slabbynck.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /annelies/$1 [L,R=301]
So, what I want is, if someone visits racereadymotorsports.in, they redirect to /raceready/ directory
and on the other hand if they visit to annelies-slabbynck.com, they should redirect to /annelies/ directory
At present, this redirects twice for annelies-slabbynck.com which means that, I end up with:
http://www.annelies-slabbynck.com/annelies/annelies/ as my final url
I am running a shared hosting and do not have access to add a new configuration.
Please help.
You need to remove the [OR] flag and reproduce the same conditions with the other rule. Maybe something like:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?racereadymotorsports.in$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /raceready/$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?annelies-slabbynck.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /annelies/$1 [L,R=301]
Or better yet, you can use these conditions instead: RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?racereadymotorsports.in$
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/raceready/$1 -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/raceready/$1 -d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /raceready/$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?annelies-slabbynck.com$
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/annelies/$1 -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/annelies/$1 -d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /annelies/$1 [L,R=301]
Note that the R=301 flag in your second rule redirects the browser, unlike the first rule which only internally rewrites the request.
I know this topic is discussed very frequently on the site.
But i am facing the same and cant get resolved this issue related to .htaccess reqrite.
Current scenario is I am forcing to use www. to my domain and redirect to sub-directory and use as a domain root.
I have following entry in my .htaccess file.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?domain.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subfolder/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subfolder/$1
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?domain.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ subfolder/index.php
All is working fine by forcing to use www. for the doamin and redirecting to sub-folder
As I have ssl certificate which is for domain.com, www.domain.com is not acceptable for ssl certificate.
Now i need non-www forcefully and redirect the primary domain to a sub-directory.
You can have it like this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(domain\.com)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://%1%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subfolder/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /subfolder/$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ /subfolder/index.php [L]
