I was wondering how can i save the result from a matlab function and use it in VB.net (if not possible then save the result in a .txt file and then use it in VB.net). thanks in advance.
MATLAB can be linked by many software such HSPICE, ANSYS , ...
There are special toolbox for these software , But I do not know ant toolbox for VB.
A simple solution is the save your result in text file.
Text file can be read in any programming language.
A important note in saving, pay attention to encoding. Source and Destination encoding must be same.

I am tasked with writing a program that does a specific set of computations in which the results of each individual computation needs to be output onto a PDF file that can be opened later normally. Is there an IDE that would allow me to do such a thing? I'm currently using Codeblocks and I'm not sure whether it can do what I need as I'm not too familiar with it.
If your question is simply how to printout your code as a PDF most if not all IDEs can do that via printing.
If its how to hand write a pdf with an ID Editor you need to learn how to hand code a pdf first.

I have to port an old VB6 program to VB.NET and stumbled across an old ".res" (Resource) file, which is stored in binary format. Using VS 2013, I can embed that file into my .NET project, and VS shows me that it contains simply a string table.
The problem is, I cannnot figure out how to bring those res file into a more modern text format, or how to load the strings directly from the res file. I linked file to my application es an embedded resource, but all my atttempts to use VB6.LoadResString from the "Visual Basic Compatibility library" lead to an exception, showing the key was not found.
Furthermore, it seems VS does not allow me to copy/paste the string table into a text file, at least, not at a whole. Actually, it allows me to copy/paste one string after another, but as you can imagine, that is extremely cumbersome and error-prone. That is why I am looking for a better solution. Any ideas?

Sample programs are included, one of them a sort of "viewer" and the other just extracts RT_STRING resource strings to an XML document. You could easily change the latter to dump the string values to a text file, database, etc. instead.
Embed the .res file to a simple VB6 program which loops from min to the max ID and write out the strings to a text file using LoadResString (error trap for missing IDs).
I have several pdf files (about 20) and very month or so I need to change spme fields with new data. This is a very time consuming task and would like to know if there is an easy way via some sort of application where users can change the name of the variables that have to be stored into the different pdf files. This would be an enormous time saver. thanks for any help.
there are lots of solutions for this.. if you are willing to write some code things can get really interesting.
a simple solution would be to create a template pdf file with placeholder fields (like #{name}, #{age} etc.,), when a new pdf needs to be created using new values you can simple use itest to edit the pdf & replace the placeholders with actual values.
you can also use jasperreports for this but it would be an overkill for just 20 odd documents.

If you have form fields in the PDF file then you may use Aspose.Pdf (.NET or Java version) to fill data into those fields programmatically. You can either fill the fields using individual values or import the data from the XML/FDF/XFDF files etc. You can take a template PDF and save the output PDF files with different values. Please see if this might help in your scenario.

how can I open a PDF file and read some of it's contents with Python (this language is preferred, however Ruby, Perl or PHP are fine too) (in case it is recognized (not just an image)) or report that it's impossible without OCR? TIA

Parsing PDF and making something useful out of it is hard as the format is focused on keeping the layout so text can be stored in a way that each letter is positioned individually, depending on the font the text might also be stored as graphic.
libraries to read PDFs I know include the Zend Framework which has a PDF component which includes a PDF parser which can be used from PHP and gives more or less usaable results and the commercial PDFlib which offers quite usable results and offers binding to different languages.
Is there any way to generate PDF files from classic ASP? I have a bunch of user-entered data that needs to be turned into a PDF that the user can download. How can I do this? OpenOffice allows exporting documents to PDF, so could this somehow be leveraged?

It is also possible to use XSLT to output PDF but I am not sure if this is supported by the Microsoft XML Parser. I remember there were something stopping me when I tried to do this 3-4 years ago. Might be worth checking out know depending out the type of data you have as source.
However if these are static files or a one time job consider using a PDF converter on your computer and just upload the files to the server. There are heaps of tools for this, including Adobe Acrobat.
