I have the following stored procedure
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetFeedDate10_TEST]
-- sp_GetFeedDate10_TEST '05/30/2018'
#daycurrent DATE
AS
BEGIN
SELECT
TANK.Name, TANK.Tank_Pond_uID,
FEED.FeedValue, FEED.Date
FROM
aa_Tanks_Ponds TANK
LEFT JOIN
aa_Feed_Chart FEED ON TANK.Tank_Pond_uID = FEED.Tank_Pond_uID
WHERE
TANK.Site_Name = 'Dry Creek' --and (FEED.Date = DATEADD(DAY, -10, #daycurrent))
ORDER BY
TANK.Tank_Pond_uID
END
I commented out the "and
(FEED.Date = DATEADD(DAY, -10, #daycurrent))
where I am currently having issues with filtering. The join is pulling a list of tanks and joining with any feed values and dates from another list.
Where I run into trouble is when filtering based on the date, I lose all the distinct NULLS for all tanks that don't contain a value. It's important to keep the result the same rows and order as the TANK table.
Here's and example of the first table:
Name Tank_Pond_uID
--------------------
B01 DCB01
B02 DCB02
B03 DCB03
B04 DCB04
B05 DCB05
Example of the second table:
Site_Name Tank_Pond_uID Date FeedValue
--------------------------------------------------
Dry Creek DCB01 2018-05-20 90
Dry Creek DCB02 2018-05-20 90
Dry Creek DCB03 2018-05-20 90
Where I run the above stored procedure with a date:
sp_GetFeedDate10_TEST '05/30/2018'
(I know date doesn't matter as the commented out section needs it), I get the following result:
Name Tank_Pond_uID FeedValue Date
-----------------------------------------------
B01 DCB01 90 2018-05-20
B01 DCB01 90 2018-05-21
B01 DCB01 90 2018-05-22
B02 DCB02 90 2018-05-20
B02 DCB02 90 2018-05-21
B02 DCB02 90 2018-05-22
B03 DCB03 NULL NULL
B04 DCB04 NULL NULL
B05 DCB05 NULL NULL
When I add the commented section back into the Store procedure and run it again I get the following result:
Name Tank_Pond_uID FeedValue Date
-----------------------------------------------
B01 DCB01 90 2018-05-20
B02 DCB02 90 2018-05-20
I would like the expected result to be keep the Left rows and still filter date:
Example of expected table result:
Name Tank_Pond_uID FeedValue Date
-----------------------------------------------
B01 DCB01 90 2018-05-20
B02 DCB02 90 2018-05-20
B03 DCB03 NULL NULL
B04 DCB04 NULL NULL
B05 DCB05 NULL NULL
You have turned your left join into an inner join with the predicates in your where clause. Move the date predicate to the join and this will work.
select TANK.Name
, TANK.Tank_Pond_uID
, FEED.FeedValue,FEED.Date
from aa_Tanks_Ponds TANK
LEFT JOIN aa_Feed_Chart FEED ON TANK.Tank_Pond_uID = FEED.Tank_Pond_uID
and FEED.Date = DATEADD(DAY, -10, #daycurrent)
where TANK.Site_Name = 'Dry Creek'
order by TANK.Tank_Pond_uID

I have a slowly changing table,a new row is created each time any of the source fields are changed. Some metadata is added to show when that version was valid. This is a simplified example(dates are dd/mm/yyyy format) that doesn't show the fields which have changed.

There is only one record for each serial_number for any given point in time (i.e. the dates ranges will not overlap for identical serial_numbers) but there might be gaps between episodes for a some serial_numbers (representing something leaving and returning after a gap in service).
I want to supply an arbitrary list of datetimes, say midnight on 01/01/2021, 15/03/2021, 27/05/2021. 23/10/2021. I want to return a set of records, containing every record which was in effect on each of the dates, with each row labelled with the date it was selected by. So the above example should return this.

I can see how to do this with a cursor, stepping through each date putting them into a variable and using something like
select #date, [unique id], serial_number
from example
where #date between start_date and end_date
to get the rows.
I can’t work out a pattern that would do it in a set based approach. My preferred SQL version is TSQL. Sorry as this is almost certainly a repeat, but I can't find a form of words that hits a worked example.
You can use a temporary table to accomplish this.
CREATE TABLE #RequestedDates([Date] DATE)
You insert your dates you want into a temporary table.
INSERT INTO #RequestedDates([Date])
VALUES ('2021-01-01'), ('2021-03-15') /*Other dates*/
And then you join with the temporary table and use the between clause to get the valid results.
SELECT rd.[Date]
, t.UniqueId
, t.SerialNumber
FROM MyTable t
INNER JOIN #RequestedDates rd on rd.[Date] BETWEEN t.StartDate AND t.EndDate
ORDER BY rd.[Date]
, t.UniqueId
, t.SerialNumber
You can join to VALUES with the dates you need.
Then join the datetimes on the range.
SELECT
datetimes.dt as [date]
, t.[unique id]
, t.serial_number
FROM example t
JOIN (VALUES
(cast('2021-01-01 00:00:00' as datetime)),
('2021-03-15 00:00:00'),
('2021-05-27 00:00:00'),
('2021-10-23 00:00:00')
) datetimes(dt)
ON datetimes.dt >= t.start_date
AND datetimes.dt <= t.end_date
ORDER BY datetimes.dt, t.[unique id], t.serial_number
I do not know how to use the join keyword in the following situation. I have two tables and i need to join them in one table. This is the code
use DEV
select top 10
Casa_de_marcat,
Numar_bon,
Data_bon
from antetBonuri
where Casa_de_marcat=1
order by Data_bon desc
use DEV
select top 10
Total,
Data,
Ora,

from bp
order by Data desc
these are the results from the two tables

the final results should be all the above columns joined in a single table , the order does not count.
And yes, my bad, im using SQL server
A FULL JOIN technically does what you want:
select ab.*, bp.*
from (select top 10 Casa_de_marcat, Numar_bon, Data_bon
from antetBonuri
where Casa_de_marcat = 1
order by Data_bon desc
) ab full join
(select top 10 Total, Data, Ora, Vinzator
from bp
order by Data desc
) bp
on 1 = 0; -- never matches
There are no obvious JOIN keys.
This produces 20 rows with all the columns. In each row, one of the sets of columns (per subquery) will all be NULL.
That appears to be what you are asking for. I'm not sure how useful this is. Or why you would prefer using JOIN rather than UNION ALL to get this.
EDIT:
It also strikes me that you might want 10 rows side-by-side. If so, then use row_number():
select ab.Casa_de_marcat, ab.Numar_bon, ab.Data_bon,
bp.Total, bp.Data, bp.Ora, bp.Vinzator
from (select top 10 Casa_de_marcat, Numar_bon, Data_bon,
row_number() over (order by (select null)) as seqnum
from antetBonuri
where Casa_de_marcat = 1
order by Data_bon desc
) ab full join
(select top 10 Total, Data, Ora, Vinzator,
row_number() over (order by (select null)) as seqnum
from bp
order by Data desc
) bp
on ab.seqnum = bp.seqnum;
This results in 10 rows with the results "side-by-side". The rows from the two tables are in an arbitrary order.
For school I need to make a function on an auction website. For this I need to join a couple of tables in a VIEW. This worked just fine, until I needed to add a filter for price range. Seems easy enough but the query result needs to allow a NULL when no bid has been placed.
The Statement for the View:
SELECT I.itemID, I.title, I.startPrice, B.highestBid, Cfi.category, I.endDate
FROM dbo.Items AS I INNER JOIN dbo.category_for_item AS Cfi ON V.itemID = Vir.itemID
LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.Bid AS B ON V.itemID = B.itemID
This would get the following Table:
itemID title startPrice highestBid category endDate
1 1234 Alfa 25 26 PC 2018-09-22
2 1234 Alfa 25 NULL PC 2018-09-22
3 5678 Bravo 9 20 Console 2018-07-03
4 5678 Bravo 9 15 Console 2018-07-03
5 5678 Bravo 9 NULL Console 2018-07-03
6 9876 Charlie 84 100 Stamps 2018-06-14
7 9876 Charlie 84 90 Stamps 2018-06-14
8 9876 Charlie 84 85 Stamps 2018-06-14
9 9876 Charlie 84 NULL Stamps 2018-06-14

14 9631 Echo 56 NULL Cars 2018-06-25
15 7856 Foxtrot 98 NULL Dolls 2018-12-26
After looking around for answers I got a query for joining the VIEW on itself with only showing the highest bid instead of all bids:
SELECT VW.itemID, VW.title, VW.startPrice, VW.highestBid, VW.category, VW.endDate
FROM VW_SEARCH AS VW
INNER JOIN (SELECT itemID, MAX(highestBid) AS MaxBid
FROM VW_SEARCH
GROUP BY itemID) VJ
ON VW.itemID = VJ.itemID AND VW.highestBid = VJ.MaxBid
This gave the next results:
itemID title startPrice highestBid category endDate
1 1234 Alfa 25 26 PC 2018-09-22
2 5678 Bravo 9 20 Console 2018-07-03
3 9876 Charlie 84 85 Stamps 2018-06-14
4 1470 Delta 98 100 Fashion 2018-06-15
5 9631 Echo 56 65 Cars 2018-06-25
As I expected the result only showed the items with at least one bid on them. I tried added one extra condition on the subQuery and Joining RIGHT OUTER to make sure I would not get doubles of an itemID.
SELECT VW.itemID, VW.title, VW.startPrice, VW.highestBid, VW.category, VW.endDate
FROM VW_SEARCH AS VW
RIGHT OUTER JOIN (SELECT itemID, MAX(highestBid) AS MaxBid
FROM VW_SEARCH
WHERE highestBid > 0 OR highestBid IS NULL
GROUP BY itemID) VJ
ON VW.itemID = VJ.itemID AND VW.highestBid = VJ.MaxBid
This gave the following results (did not add result 5 - 1199 because it is all the same as result 4, this would happen in the actual table not the example table from above):
itemID title startPrice highestBid category endDate
1 1234 Alfa 25 26 PC 2018-09-22
2 5678 Bravo 9 20 Console 2018-07-03
3 9876 Charlie 84 85 Stamps 2018-06-14
4 NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL
1200 1470 Delta 98 100 Fashion 2018-06-15
1201 9631 Echo 56 65 Cars 2018-06-25
While this is technicly allowing a NULL in the colums I need to get a result in the likes of :
itemID title startPrice highestBid catgory endDate
1 1234 Alfa 25 26 PC 2018-09-22
2 5678 Bravo 9 20 Console 2018-07-03
3 9876 Charlie 84 85 Stamps 2018-06-14
4 1470 Delta 98 100 Fashion 2018-06-15
5 9631 Echo 56 65 Cars 2018-06-25
6 7856 Foxtrot 98 NULL Dolls 2018-12-26
How do I get the desired result, or is it just impossible?
Also if the query could be written better, please say so.
Thanks in advance.
Solve the problem using a left join:
SELECT VW.itemID, VW.title, VW.startPrice, VW.highestBid, VW.category, VW.endDate
FROM VW_SEARCH VW LEFT JOIN
(SELECT itemID, MAX(highestBid) AS MaxBid
FROM VW_SEARCH
GROUP BY itemID
) VJ
ON VW.itemID = VJ.itemID AND VW.highestBid = VJ.MaxBid;
Or, use the ANSI-standard ROW_NUMBER() function:
select vw.*
from (select vw.*,
row_number() over (partition by itemID
order by highestBid nulls last
) as seqnum
from vw_search vw
) vw
where seqnum = 1;
This guarantees one row per item.
Note: Not all databases support NULLS LAST. This may not even be necessary, but you can also implement it using a case expression.
Can you give the definition of the view at least? Maybe the table definition too.
I would go only with subquery as because identity column :
select vw.*
from vw_search vw
where id = (select vm1.id
from vw_search vm1
where vm.itemID = vw1.itemID and vm1.highestBid is not null
order by vm1.highestBid desc
limit 1
);
However, some DBMS has not support LIMIT clause such as SQL Server if so, then you can use TOP clause instead.
I am dealing with the following problem in SQL (using Vertica):
In short -- Create a timeline for each ID (in a table where I have multiple lines, orders in my example, per ID)
What I would like to achieve -- At my disposal I have a table on historical order date and I would like to compute new customer (first order ever in the past month), active customer- (>1 order in last 1-3 months), passive customer- (no order for last 3-6 months) and inactive customer (no order for >6 months) rates.
Which steps I have taken so far -- I was able to construct a table similar to the example presented below:
CustomerID Current order date Time between current/previous order First order date (all-time)
001 2015-04-30 12:06:58 (null) 2015-04-30 12:06:58
001 2015-09-24 17:30:59 147 05:24:01 2015-04-30 12:06:58
001 2016-02-11 13:21:10 139 19:50:11 2015-04-30 12:06:58
002 2015-10-21 10:38:29 (null) 2015-10-21 10:38:29
003 2015-05-22 12:13:01 (null) 2015-05-22 12:13:01
003 2015-07-09 01:04:51 47 12:51:50 2015-05-22 12:13:01
003 2015-10-23 00:23:48 105 23:18:57 2015-05-22 12:13:01
A little bit of intuition: customer 001 placed three orders from which the second one was 147 days after its first order. Customer 002 has only placed one order in total.
What I think that the next steps should be -- I would like to know for each date (also dates on which a certain user did not place an order), for each CustomerID, how long it has been since his/her last order. This would imply that I would create some sort of timeline for each CustomerID. In the example presented above I would get 287 (days between 1st of May 2015 and 11th of February 2016, the timespan of this table) lines for each CustomerID. I have difficulties solving this previous step. When I have performed this step I want to create a field which shows at each date the last order date, the period between the last order date and the current date, and what state someone is in at the current date. For the example presented earlier, this would look something like this:
CustomerID Last order date Current date Time between current date /last order State
001 2015-04-30 12:06:58 2015-05-01 00:00:00 0 00:00:00 New
...
001 2015-04-30 12:06:58 2015-06-30 00:00:00 60 11:53:02 Active
...
001 2015-09-24 17:30:59 2016-02-01 00:00:00 129 11:53:02 Passive
...
...
002 2015-10-21 17:30:59 2015-10-22 00:00:00 0 06:29:01 New
...
002 2015-10-21 17:30:59 2015-11-30 00:00:00 39 06:29:01 Active
...
...
003 2015-05-22 12:13:01 2015-06-23 00:00:00 31 11:46:59 Active
...
003 2015-07-09 01:04:51 2015-10-22 00:00:00 105 11:46:59 Inactive
...
At the dots there should be all the inbetween dates but for sake of space I have left these out of the table.
When I know for each date what the state is of each customer (active/passive/inactive) my plan is to sum the states and group by date which should give me the sum of new, active, passive and inactive customers. From here on I can easily compute the rates at each date.
Anybody that knows how I can possibly achieve this task?
Note -- If anyone has other ideas how to achieve the goal presented above (using some other approach compared to the approach I had in mind) please let me know!
EDIT
Suppose you start from a table like this:
SQL> select * from ord order by custid, ord_date ;
custid | ord_date
--------+---------------------
1 | 2015-04-30 12:06:58

You can use Vertica's Timeseries Analytic Functions TS_FIRST_VALUE(), TS_LAST_VALUE() to fill gaps and interpolate last_order date to the current date:
Then you just have to join this with a Vertica's TimeSeries generated from the same table with interval one day starting from the first day each customer did place his/her first order up to now (current_date):
select
custid,
status_dt,
last_order_dt,
case
when status_dt::date - last_order_dt::date < 30 then case
when nord = 1 then 'New' else 'Active' end
when status_dt::date - last_order_dt::date < 90 then 'Active'
when status_dt::date - last_order_dt::date < 180 then 'Passive'
else 'Inactive'
end as status
from (
select
custid,
last_order_dt,
status_dt,
conditional_true_event (first_order_dt is null or
last_order_dt > lag(last_order_dt))
over(partition by custid order by status_dt) as nord
from (
select
custid,
ts_first_value(ord_date) as first_order_dt ,
ts_last_value(ord_date) as last_order_dt ,
dt::date as status_dt
from
( select custid, ord_date from ord
union all
select distinct(custid) as custid, current_date + 1 as ord_date from ord
) z timeseries dt as '1 day' over (partition by custid order by ord_date)
) x
) y
where status_dt <= current_date
order by 1, 2
;
And you will get something like this:
custid | status_dt | last_order_dt | status
--------+------------+---------------------+---------

I have a table with some records now want to repeat this table content with some logic. I have two date start date and termination date, means record start from start_date and end on termination date, it will working fine but problem is calculate amount on it,
Logic is amount calculation formula
basesalary / 12 * ( SUTARate / 100 ) * ( x.num+1)
if this amount is less than SUTAMaximumAmount this amount is used, else 0. And one more thing if amount will be remain and year is complete then restart calculation from next year.. x.num is temporary table which hold 90 number from 1 to 90
Table
BaseSalary| S_Date | T_Date | SUTARate| SUTAMaximumAmount |A_S_Percent
48000 | 7-1-2013 | 3-15-2015 | 1.1 | 300 | 5
My result is
DAte amount
2013-07-01 00:00:00.000 44

Query
SELECT dateadd(M, (x.num),d.StartDate) AS TheDate,
Round( case when ((convert(float,d.SUTARate)/100* convert(integer,d.BaseSalary) / 12)*(x.num+1)) <=CONVERT(money,d.SUTAMaximumAmount)
then (convert(float,d.SUTARate)/100* convert(integer,d.BaseSalary)* / 12)
else (CONVERT(money,d.SUTAMaximumAmount)-((convert(float,d.SUTARate)/100* (convert(integer,d.BaseSalary) / 12)*x.num)))*Power((1+convert(float,d.AnnualSalaryIncreasePercent)/100),Convert(int,x.num/12)) end, 2) AS Amount,
FROM #Table AS x, myTbl AS d
WHERE (x.num >= 0) AND (x.num <= (DateDiff(M, d.StartDate, d.TerminationDate)) )
temporary table
create TABLE #Table (
num int NOT NULL,
);
;WITH Nbrs ( n ) AS (
SELECT 0 UNION ALL
SELECT 1 + n FROM Nbrs WHERE n < 99 )
INSERT #Table(num)
SELECT n FROM Nbrs
OPTION ( MAXRECURSION 99 )
this table used as x in above query
I created this SQLFiddle.
-- Numbers table is probably a good idea
WITH Nbrs ( num ) AS
(
SELECT 0 UNION ALL
SELECT 1 + num FROM Nbrs WHERE num < 99
)
-- All columns, except for 'num' come from myTbl
SELECT dateadd(M, (num),S_Date) AS TheDate,
Round(
CASE
WHEN (SUTARate / 100) * (BaseSalary / 12) <= SUTAMaximumAmount
THEN (SUTARate / 100) * (BaseSalary / 12)
ELSE 0
END
, 2) As Amount
-- This may be the number you were trying to multiply
,DatePart(Month, dateadd(M, (num),S_Date)) As PotentialMultiiplier
FROM Nbrs AS x, myTbl AS d
WHERE (num >= 0)
AND (num <= (DateDiff(M, S_Date, T_Date)) )
I am not entirely sure what your goal is, but you are probably on the right track with a numbers table. Because the result you are going for does not change much over time (i.e., nearly every month has an amount of $44), it is difficult to determine the correct code for the query. So, I recommend you provide a different set of data for better result-checking.
If you fiddle with the SQL in the provided link, you can re-post with better code, and then we can better solve your issue.
