Unmerge, Sort and Merged cells in vba - vba

I am working with the excel-vba, I have to sort the rows in ascending order with merged cells, I know that the merged cell cannot be sorted that is why, this work around is the only solution to my problem. I need to unmerged the cells then copy the value of the first cell and paste it to the second cell, after that, the code will sort the list using the A column and C column. and then after that if the A and C column has an equal value, it will turn to merged cell.
I hope someone could help me with this project.

Sort
So, I constructed a code that will do this process but it cant.
Sub Sort()
On Error GoTo myErr
Dim myRange As Range
Dim lstrow As Long
Dim i As Integer
Dim cel As Range
Set myRange = Sheet1.Range("A2:C7")
lstrow = Sheet1.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
With myRange
.UnMerge
For Each cel In myRange
If IsEmpty(cel) Then
For i = 2 To lstrow
' cel(i).Value = 1
Sheet1.Range(i).Copy Sheet1.Range(cel).PasteSpecial
Sheet1.Range("C3").CurrentRegion.Sort _
key1:=Sheet1.Range("C3"), order1:=xlAscending, _
Header:=xlGuess
Next i
End If
Next cel
End With
myErr:
MsgBox "Unble to sort!"
End Sub

Regards,

If you are going to find lstRow before unmerging, use Column B — if the last row in Column A is merged, then the bottommost cell is empty! Or if you prefer, you can find lstRow after unmerging everything.
By looping through myRange you can both UnMerge any merged cells and populate the newly unmerged cells using the MergeArea.address of the original merged cell. After sorting on columns A and C, you can then loop through those columns, comparing each row to the row beneath. Only re-merge when both the row beneath is the same as the row above for both columns.

need vba macro to delete cells except first and last row in each column

I have a excel which has multiple rows and columns and range of column values differ for each row.
Need a macro which will delete all cells in a row except first and last in each row and paste the last value next to first value.
Tried the below script:
Sub test()
Dim sh As Worksheet
Dim IDS As range
Dim ID As range
Set sh = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1")
Set IDS = ActiveSheet.range("A2", range("A1").End(xlDown))
For Each ID In IDS
Dim b As Integer
Dim k As Integer
k = sh.range("ID", sh.range("ID").End(xlToRight)).Columns.Count
b = k - 1
range(ID.Offset(0, 0), ID.Offset(0, "b")).Select
Selection.ClearContents
Next ID
End Sub
This is a little different approach but should help.
Also, it is generally not best to declare variables in a loop as you do with b & k just fyi
Sub test()
Dim sh As Worksheet
Dim row As Integer
Dim lastCol As Integer
Set sh = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1")
For row = 2 To sh.Cells(Sheets(1).Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).row
lastCol = sh.Cells(row, Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column
sh.Range("B" & row).Value = sh.Cells(row, lastCol).Value
sh.Range(sh.Cells(row, 3), sh.Cells(row, lastCol)).ClearContents
Next
End Sub
Best of luck
I'd go as follows:
Sub test()
Dim cell As Range
With ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1") ' reference relevant sheet
For Each cell In .Range("A2", .Cells(.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp)) ' loop through referenced sheet column A cells from row 2 down to last not empty one
With .Range(cell, .Cells(cell.Row, .Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft)) ' reference referenced sheet range spanning from current cell to last not empty one in the same row
If .Count > 2 Then ' if referenced range has more then 2 cells
cell.Offset(, 1).Value = .Cells(1, .Count).Value ' store last cell value next to the current one
.Offset(, 2).Resize(, .Columns.Count - 1).ClearContents 'clear all cells right of current one
End If
End With
Next
End With
End Sub
You can use Range.Delete Method (Excel)
range(ID.Offset(0, 0), ID.Offset(0, b)).Delete Shift:=xlToLeft

Paste to another cell and WS while looping and shifting down a row

I am looking for some help in getting this code to run properly. I've gotten some help with the first part from some great people here!
Basically, the code I have now sets ranges in between cells formatted bold, as the bold represents a date. I am trying to find the individual segments in column A and copy the coresponding number in column D to another worksheet in column C. If the value is not found in the range, the row output should shift down one without filling in anything.
Here is what I have so far:
Public Sub DataBetween()
Dim thisWB As Workbook
Dim dataWS As Worksheet
Set thisWB = ThisWorkbook
Set dataWS = thisWB.sheets("FC01.RPT")
Set MoBWS = thisWB.sheets("Mix of Business")
'--- find the first bold cell...
Dim nextBoldCell As range
Set nextBoldCell = FindNextBoldInColumn(dataWS.range("A1"))
'--- now note the start of the data and find the next bold cell
Dim startOfDataRow As Long
Dim endOfDataRow As Long
Dim lastRowOfAllData As Long
startOfDataRow = 3
'Set lastRowOfAllData = dataWS.Cells(ws.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
'--- this loop is for all the data sets...
Do
endOfDataRow = EndRowOfDataSet(dataWS, startOfDataRow)
'--- this loop is to work through one data set
For i = startOfDataRow To endOfDataRow
sheets("FC01.RPT").Select
Cells.Find(What:="Individual return guest").Activate
range("D" & (ActiveCell.Row)).Select
Selection.copy
sheets("Plan").Select
range("C3").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
Next i
startOfDataRow = endOfDataRow + 1
Loop
'Do While endOfDataRow < lastRowOfAllData
errhandler:
MsgBox "No Cells containing specified text found"
End Sub
Public Function FindNextBoldInColumn(ByRef startCell As range, _
Optional columnNumber As Long = 1) As range
'--- beginning at the startCell row, this function check each
' lower row in the same column and stops when it encounters
' a BOLD font setting
Dim checkCell As range
Set checkCell = startCell
Do While Not checkCell.Font.bold
Set checkCell = checkCell.Offset(1, 0)
If checkCell.Row = checkCell.Parent.Rows.Count Then
'--- we've reached the end of the column, so
' return nothing
Set FindNextBoldInColumn = Nothing
Exit Function
End If
Loop
Set FindNextBoldInColumn = checkCell
End Function
Private Function EndRowOfDataSet(ByRef ws As Worksheet, _
ByVal startRow As Long, _
Optional maxRowsInDataSet As Long = 50) As Long
'--- checks each row below the starting row for either a BOLD cell
' or, if no BOLD cells are detected, returns the last row of data
Dim checkCell As range
Set checkCell = ws.Cells(startRow, 1) 'assumes column "A"
Dim i As Long
For i = startRow To maxRowsInDataSet
If ws.Cells(startRow, 1).Font.bold Then
EndRowOfDataSet = i - 1
Exit Function
End If
Next i
'--- if we make it here, we haven't found a BOLD cell, so
' find the last row of data
EndRowOfDataSet = ws.Cells(ws.Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
End Function
The code keeps crashing. How can I make it so the output line shifts down one when looping though a range, no matter if it finds the value or not?
Does anyone know what do to?
Here is a snapshot of the data I am working with:
Thanks for the help!!
I noticed all your "blocks" end with some "Summe" occurrence in column A, and data begins at row 14
then I'd go this way:
Sub mm()
Dim iArea As Long
With Worksheets("FC01.RPT")
With .Range("A14", .Cells(.Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp))
.Cells(2, 1).Value = "Summe"
.AutoFilter field:=1, Criteria1:="Summe*"
With .Resize(.Rows.Count - 1).Offset(1).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible) '.Offset(-1)
For iArea = 1 To .Areas.Count - 1
With .Parent.Range(.Areas(iArea).Offset(1), .Areas(iArea + 1).Offset(-1))
Worksheets("Plan").Cells(Rows.Count, "D").End(xlUp).Offset(1).Value = WorksheetFunction.SumIf(.Cells, "Individual*", .Offset(, 3))
End With
Next
End With
.Cells(2, 1).ClearContents
End With
.AutoFilterMode = False
End With
End Sub

How to pick value based on condition in macros

I want to compare the data so I have to pick a value based on a condition. The example data that I have is like:
The condition is:
I want to pick the value of PO NO. that always placed 2 column after text "PO NO."
How do I get that value? After that copy and paste it in another column (example:column A)
It depends on how do you want to use those values, if you just want to put them into some continued ranges in current workbook, then I think the Filter function is sufficient, if you want to do some further calculation, you may want to write some VBA code:
Press ALT + F11 in your current worksheet.
Press ALT + I then press M.
Press Ctrl + G to open the "Immediate" window
Then write the following lines:
Sub myValues()
Dim rCount As Long
Dim i As Long
Let rCount = ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(Rows.Count, 6).End(xlUp).Row
For i = 1 to rCount
If WorksheetFunction.Trim(ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(i,6).Text) = "PO No." Then
Debug.Print ThisWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Cells(i,8).Text
End If
Next
End Sub
Now you could get all the PO NO values in the "Immediate" window.
You can extract the value you want using this formula.
=INDEX(F44:H49,MATCH("PO No.",F44:F49,0),3)
The problem which remains to be solved is how to define the range F44:F49. Your question delivers no hint as to how that should be done. Perhaps knowing where you want to value to appear would offer a clue.
You can iterate over each cell in the column and gather your post numbers, offsetted by 2 columns, like I mentioned in comments
Sub Test()
Dim WS As Worksheet
Dim ParamRange As Range
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim Cell As Range
Dim i As Long
Set WS = ActiveSheet 'or whatever sheet your want
With WS
LastRow = .Cells(.Rows.Count, "F").End(xlUp).Row
Set ParamRange = .Range("F1:F" & LastRow)
End With
For Each Cell In ParamRange 'iterate over column
If Cell.Value2 = "PO NO." Then
i = i + 1
'Debug.Print to Immediate
Debug.Print i, CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
'Paste in "A" column
CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=-5).Value2 = CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
End If
Next
End Sub
So you just need to collect all Cell.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2 values.
Alternatively, without iteration over cells (and faster), but little bit complicated:
Sub Test()
Dim WS As Worksheet
Dim ParamRange As Range
Dim CurrentSearch As Range
Dim FirstSearch As Range
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim Cell As Range
Dim i As Long
Set WS = ActiveSheet 'or whatever sheet your want
With WS
LastRow = .Cells(.Rows.Count, "F").End(xlUp).Row
Set ParamRange = .Range("F1:F" & LastRow)
End With
'Get first search
Set CurrentSearch = ParamRange.Find(What:="PO NO.", LookIn:=xlValues, _
LookAt:=xlWhole, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False)
If Not CurrentSearch Is Nothing Then
i = i + 1
'Debug.Print to Immediate
Debug.Print i, CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
'Paste in "A" column
CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=-5).Value2 = CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
Set FirstSearch = CurrentSearch
Do
'Get next search
Set CurrentSearch = ParamRange.FindNext(After:=CurrentSearch)
If Not CurrentSearch Is Nothing Then
If CurrentSearch.Address = FirstSearch.Address Then Exit Do
i = i + 1
'Debug.Print to Immediate
Debug.Print i, CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
'Paste in "A" column
CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=-5).Value2 = CurrentSearch.Offset(ColumnOffset:=2).Value2
Else
Exit Do
End If
Loop
End If
End Sub

Check merged cell and compare adjacent to set unique value from compared cells values

I'm writing a macro in Excel 2010 for a problem that is as follows:
I have two columns, one with a Key string value and one with a uuid. The idea is that every key should have only one uuid but as the table is now, key cell could be merged cells or single cells.
The macro needs to recognize which cells are merged and which are not, so, I have two options:
If cell is merged, check all its adjacent cells, pick first uuid value and copy/paste it to other adjacent cells, that is to say, cell below(Could be with an Offset())
If cell is not merged , but key value is repeated in multiple cells, copy/paste uuid value to adjacent cells.
So basically is to check merged cells MergeArea but I don't know if I need to iterate through its addresses or check cells in the range with an offset of Offset(0,1) or what.
With my code I can know if the cells are merged but now, how con I iterate through it's adjacent cells values?
Code as is now:
Sub CopyUUID()
Dim lRow As Long
Dim rng As Range
Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim rMerged As Range
Dim value As Variant
Set ws = Sheets(ActiveSheet.Name)
On Error GoTo ExitProgram 'If an error happens within the execution, skips it and continue in next step
Application.DisplayAlerts = False 'We can cancel the procedure without errors
With ws
lRow = .Range("F" & .Rows.count).End(xlUp).row
Set rng = .Range(.Cells(3, 6), .Cells(lRow, 6))
rng.Select
For Each cell In rng
If cell.MergeCells Then
'Code for merged cells
Else
'Code to use for single cells
End If
Next cell
End With
ExitProgram:
Exit Sub
End Sub
Option Explicit
Sub CopyUUID()
Const UUID As Long = 31 'col AE
Dim lRow As Long, cel As Range, isM As Boolean, copyID As Boolean, kCol As Long
With ActiveSheet
kCol = -25 'col F
lRow = .Cells(.Rows.Count, UUID + kCol).End(xlUp).Row
For Each cel In .Range(.Cells(3, UUID), .Cells(lRow, UUID))
isM = cel.Offset(0, kCol).MergeCells
copyID = isM And Len(cel.Offset(0, kCol)) = 0
copyID = copyID Or (Not isM And cel.Offset(0, kCol) = cel.Offset(-1, kCol))
If copyID Then cel = cel.Offset(-1)
Next
End With
End Sub
Try the following code. Note that this is going to overwrite the current contents of UUID, so make a backup copy before testing. If you don't want the UUID column modified, you can modify this to suit your needs.
Sub CopyUUID()
Dim lRow As Long
Dim rng As Range
Dim c As Range
Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim rMerged As Range
Dim value As Variant
Set ws = Sheets(ActiveSheet.Name)
On Error GoTo ExitProgram 'If an error happens within the execution, skips it and continue in next step
' Application.DisplayAlerts = False 'We can cancel the procedure without errors
With ws
lRow = .Range("F" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
Set rng = .Range(.Cells(3, 6), .Cells(lRow, 6))
' rng.Select
For Each c In rng
If c.MergeCells Then
'Code for merged cells
c.Offset(0, 1).Formula = c.MergeArea.Cells(1, 1).Offset(0, 1).Formula
Else
'Code to use for single cells
If c.Formula = c.Offset(-1, 0).Formula Then
c.Offset(0, 1).Formula = c.Offset(-1, 1).Formula
End If
End If
Next c
End With
ExitProgram:
Exit Sub
End Sub
When in a MergedCell, it makes the UUID the same as the UUID of the first cell in the merged area. When not in a MergedCell, it copies UUID from the row above if Key is the same as the row above.
I changed your variable cell to c (I don't like to use variable names that can be confused with built-ins) and commented out a couple of lines.
Hope this helps
I adopt a simple approach to this problem as illustrated through steps taken by me.
sample sheet showing data with merged cells and unmerged cells.
Run the program code to unmerge the cells. Output of the program is appended below.
If this structure of data matches your case then addition of 2 lines of code for column B will leave the data as per following image.
Program code is as follows:
'Without column deletion:
Sub UnMergeRanges()
Dim cl As Range
Dim rMerged As Range
Dim v As Variant
For Each cl In ActiveSheet.UsedRange
If cl.MergeCells Then
Set rMerged = cl.MergeArea
v = rMerged.Cells(1, 1)
rMerged.MergeCells = False
rMerged = v
End If
Next
End Sub
'With coumn deletion
Sub UnMergeRangesB()
Dim cl As Range
Dim rMerged As Range
Dim v As Variant
For Each cl In ActiveSheet.UsedRange
If cl.MergeCells Then
Set rMerged = cl.MergeArea
v = rMerged.Cells(1, 1)
rMerged.MergeCells = False
rMerged = v
End If
Next
Columns("B:B").Select
Selection.Delete Shift:=xlToLeft
End Sub

VBA: copy whole column content starting for a specific and and the data below it

the thing is I want to copy a certain column but I want to only copy data on a specific cell and get the data below it.
Let say for example, I want to copy Cell C5 and below, this will disregard C1 to C4. Is this possible?
Further to my comments below your question, here is one way. This will work in all scenarios. Whether you have blank cells or not...
Option Explicit
Sub CopyCells()
Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim rng As Range
Dim sRow As Long, lRow As Long
'~~> Change this to the relevant worksheet
Set ws = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1")
sRow = 5 '<~~ Starting row
With ws
'~~> Find last row in Col C
lRow = .Range("C" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
'~~> If the last row < Start Row
If lRow < sRow Then
MsgBox "Start Row cannot be greater then last row"
Else
'~~> Create your range
Set rng = .Range("C" & sRow & ":C" & lRow)
'~~> Copy
rng.Copy
'
' Do what you want with copied data
'
End If
End With
End Sub
Sheet1.Columns(3).Resize(Sheet1.Columns(3).Rows.Count - 4).Offset(4).Select
This will select entire C column but first 4 cells. It simply take column 3, resize it to subtract first 4 cells and offset the starting cell 4 cell below and select that range.
If your range is defined then code could be more optimized.
EDIT for sample code:
Sub copyCells()
Dim sht As Worksheet
Dim rngStart As Range
Dim rng As Range
Set sht = Sheet1
Set rngStart = sht.Cells(5, 3) ' this is C5
rngStart.Select
Set rng = rngStart.Resize(rngStart.End(xlDown).Row - rngStart.Row + 1)
rng.Copy Sheet2.Cells(1, 1) ' copy where you need
End Sub
This will copy a entire column (with data) from selection, just paste it wherever you want.
Sub CopyColumnFromSelected()
Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlDown)).Select
Selection.Copy
End Sub
Or (Ctrl + Shift + down arrow) <--- from your desired cell and Ctrl+C ;)
