I am facing rather a strange situation here. I am unable to create a step definition for the scenario outline features in intellij. Alt+Enter wouldn't work and there is no lightbuld drop down either. the moment i remove the double quotes and greater than and less than symbols (pardon my jargon here, I couldn't find any other words to explain them), the lightbuld appears again. quite strange really. not sure if the 2017 intellij update has caused this.
any help much appreciated!
Scenario Outline : test logins
Given I am logged in as "<user>"
Examples:
|User|
|person1|
|person2|
When I click on the Given, I don't see the yellow bulb
And clicking Alt+Enter wouldn't give any options to create step definitions
. however, if i were to remove the "< >" the yellow bulb appears and clicking Alt+Enter works fine.

I'm editting a .tsx-file and are reaching upon this bonkers file-formatting:
... If I enlarge the window a bit, then it makes more sense:
But I would still like to change it, so value and onClick aren't aligned all that way to the right. Ideally, it would try to align them with the opening bracket (as they do), unless the opening bracket is more than 35 characters, from the line start. Or something like that.
Now, I assume that it's the TypeScript-formatting that dictates the Code Style for a .tsx-file. But when I open the settings: Editor >> Code Style >> TypeScript then there are BAZILLIONS of settings.
Which leads me to three questions:
Does anyone know what I need to change, so object-attributes doesn't follow the opening-brackets width?
Could I find the name of what I'm looking for, in some smart way? I tried hovering over the massive space, hoping that the little yellow light-bulb could shine some light on, what I was after.
Are there any presets, to be found somewhere? So I don't need to engineer a new Code Style, if I dislike the default.
Make sure that the following option is disabled:
Settings (Preferences on macOS)
Editor | Code Style | TypeScript | Wrapping and Braces
Function call arguments: Align when multiline
NOTE: It is possible that the default value has been changed somewhere since the previous version as I have seen a few questions for the same option but different language (PHP and JavaScript).
HINT 1: Did you know that you can paste your own code in the preview area and start changing options to see how they will affect it? It helps locating the right option a lot.
HINT 2: There is a special popup that shows formatting rules applied to the code. It does not show all possible options but can give you a hint what to look for. To invoke it:
Use Help | Find Action... (or Action tab on Search Everywhere -- they use to be different popups but are using the same popup nowadays)
Type adjust to filer actions
Select and invoke "Adjust code style settings" action
It will give you a popup with applicable rules (it's a limited set: may not list all).
An example for PHP code:
in IDEA ,I can type soutto represent System.out.println();and I want to know how to make my own code abbreviation. For example, alias System.out.print(); to sounor any other names
This is called a Live Template in IntelliJ.
Go to File > Settings > Editor > Live Templates. From there, select Java and on the right, you'll see a plus sign. By clicking it, you'll get a 1. Live Template and that will get you a new abbreviation.
Name it soun and the text should be
System.out.print($END$);
Once you're done, make sure you've enabled that abbreviation by clicking the check box next to it.
The docs of IntelliJ cover in detail what the syntax is for these templates.
The $END$ syntax indicates the position of the cursor when the code snippet is complete, and you can no longer press Tab to jump to the next variable.
There are more variables to look at as well and other configurations to do!
Edit: there is an answer here for this question, but it looks like it doesn't necessarily answer the question asked on that post, so that's why I've decided to post a dedicated answer (tackling the issue at hand).
Is there a way to list all the suggested Quick Actions for an open project in VS2017 (v15.3.3)?
I do not see any listed in the Error List window (even with "Build + IntelliSense" selected), though I do see other types of IntelliSense warnings such as CS warnings (e.g. CS1591).
(Quick Actions being the items that are marked in the gutter with a light bulb and accessed with either Alt +Enter or Ctrl+.)
Thanks to a response from the #VisualStudio twitter account, I've come across this MS Docs page that answers this question: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/ide/code-styles-and-quick-actions?utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral
It describes how to set code style preferences by opening the Tools > Options window and selecting Text Editor > C# / Basic > Code Style > General.
Here there are a list of the code style preferences. To see where they are suggested in one's own code the severity of each can be changed, say from "None" to "Suggestion" or "Warning". Then, during a build, the locations for the related style will be listed in the Build Output or Errors windows
This isn't exactly the same as what you're looking for, but could help you make changes much more quickly to the entire document, project, or solution:
When you try to apply a quick action (using Ctrl + .), you'll get a preview of the changes it will make. At the bottom of that preview is a button that says
"Apply to all occurrences in ..."
This will save you from having to go to every single occurrence in a certain scope and fixing it, which is what I've done for a couple of hours now :(
The plus / minus signs are gone to expand / collapse regions. The vertical lines to indicate regions are gone too.
The regions are collapsing and all the commands under edit, outlining work fine.
It's just I have to double click on the collapsed region to expand and there's no way to collapse a region with the mouse. Only the shortcut keys (ctrl m, m) or the menu will do it.
I swear it was right this morning but I did something to mess it up. I can't find any option in tools to fix it either.
UPDATE
Now, some files are doing this and other files (both opened at same time) are not doing it. If anyone can explain, I'm all ears.
Press ctrl+, (control plus semicolon) to open the settings. And type Folding Strategy in the setting's search bar. It is set to auto by default. You can set it to always for the controls to be visible at all times, otherwise, it shows only on mouse over.
This same thing happens to me multiple times a day using VS.NET 2015 Pro version 14.0.24720.00 Update 1. Restarting the IDE always restores normal function for a while but the problem always returns, seemingly at random.
UPDATE:
I tried changing the theme from dark to blue and it restored the outlining. I then changed back to dark from blue and the outlining continued to work normally. Still a pain but definitely a lot faster than restarting the IDE.
It happened with me also. One file was just fine and other file (js) was not. I searched it a lot.
Try selecting a method/if check etc and press ctrl+M+H which is short cut for right click outlining > Hide Selection.
You can do it on the whole document as well.
This might be helpful when working on a file which has too much code in it and you are going through different functions again and again. It is painful with scrolling mouse for so long.
You can use short cut for for moving at the start of the method or at the end of the method with the following :
select parenthesis { start or end } and press ctrl+}
Hope this helps.
It works again.
I closed all windows and reopened my code file.
Now it shows the plus minus glyphs again.
I know this is an old post, but I wanted to share a quick solution. if you right click and hover over 'Outlining' and then click 'Collapse to Definition', the widget comes back. Then just press [ctrl] + z to undo and continue where you left off.
With Golang, if the code has some syntactic mistakes that would prevent it from compiling, the language server cannot decide which parts of the code are collapsible, and which not.
Therefore the solution is either switching to the Folding Strategy in VSCode settings to indentation folding, or fixing the syntactic errors.
Simple solution : CTRL + M + O, then CTRL + Z

I'm having a weird problem in pycharm that I can't seem to work out.
Using the Darcula theme, I'm seeing some odd highlighting as seen in the below image
Any idea what it is? I'm thinking I must have accidentally turned on some obscure tool, but I can't spot any rhyme or reason.
For whatever reason / somehow you have injected custom language (HTML?) into DIV (?) tags (the green background).
Settings (Preferences on Mac) | Editor | Language Injections -- find and delete offending rule. It should have "Project" or "Global" in most right column (Scope) -- do not touch "Bundled" ones.
Alternatively -- Alt + Enter while having caret inside problematic place and choose "Uninject xxx" from popup menu. This will only disable that rule (which is still enough to make it work as before) .. but you better delete such wrong rule at some point later.
