Microsoft PowerBI embedded with password - authentication

I am working with PowerBI Embedded but I am quite new.
The following is my customer request. They want to have the dashboard embedded in their webpage but before opening they want to have password. They will just get the URL and add as iFrame in their webpage.
I plan to use the Embedded API to make the webpage using the token provided.
However this will not prompt the user to login. Is there any way I could do that? Maybe I will have to write the app in as whole to monitor the user authentication.

If you're using 'User owns data' scenario of Power BI Embedded, then each user HAS to be authenticated on his own, and is limited to access only resources in his possession (or that were shared with him).
If you're using 'App owns data', you can control whichever auth process you'd like, and grant access to the embedded entity as you please.

Building a third-party tool for Shopify users, how to access data?

I have an interesting use case for you today.
My team and I are building a free, third party, calculator tool that enables users to calculate metrics using their store's data.
We are looking for ways to pull in the necessary data and perform the calculation to show users... so far the best we've come up with is asking the users to export a report from Shopify and upload it into our application.
Looking for a user experience similar to this:
User opens our tool, application is hosted on custom-domain.com
Somehow the user authenticates or logins in to Shopify, or approves our app temporary access to their data.
Our app performs the calculation for the user, ending data access
Any ideas as to how this authentication or access of data can be facilitated? Shopify doesn't seem to have a 'login with Google' kind of authentication button.
Thanks!
There are two modes for authenticated access, namely Online and Offline. What you need in this scenario is Online Access.
From Shopify Docs
Tokens with online access mode are linked to an individual user on a
store, where the access token's lifespan matches the lifespan of the
user's web session. This type of access mode is meant to be used when
a user is interacting with your app through the web, or when an app
must respect an individual user's permission level. This access mode
must be explicitly requested in the authorization phase.
It should also fulfill your needs related to ending data access.
An access token created with this access mode is temporary, and is guaranteed to expire after some amount of time.
When a user logs out of Shopify admin, all online mode access tokens created during the same web session are revoked.
Once you have the access token, you can use Shopify API to query data so that your users don't have to upload any files manually.

OneDrive API centralized account

We want to use OneDrive API to upload and retrieve files from our own account.
The problem is that OAuth needs user interaction for login and then redirects back.
However we don't want to each user to log in and then gain access to his account. We want to just communicate with our own onedrive account without user to know about that.
(In other words, we're not creating an application that allow our users to edit their own data, but to interact with our data, like a database.)
Is there any way how to do this with OneDrive or we should use different approach?
Try adding admin (user used in OAuth) as ‘Site Collection Administrator’ to access all the file/folders of a User.

Remote access to laravel models

Is it possible that a website uses the models of another lavarel website to access the database, without the first website having the sql credentials hardcoded. But with the credentials to log into the second lavarel website hardcoded.
This way the first website doesn't have to have the sql credentials on it's ftp server, but can still access the databases through the other website (with their personal login of that website).
If that is impossible, I am wondering, is there a way to access a databases without having to hardcode the credentials anywhere.
UPDATE (the actual problem)
Only a part of the database should be visible to a particular user, so i can provide different users with different credentials and they all see something different in the database
What you are talking about is an API. So you'd build out the entire infrastructure on the first website, then on the second website, it would make some kind of calls to the first website to get back the information it needs, usually using some kind of credentials or access token.
This way, you can allow anyone in the world to communicate with your website, kind of like how Facebook, or Twitter does.
As far as accessing your database, you would need to tell your app somewhere the credentials to use, so technically, you do need to hardcode them somewhere as they can't just magically make up some credentials somehow to access a database.
if your different users are defined:
use laravel model/db event to replicate the data to a database by
user.
Or sync each database with a cron job..
These have benefits to avoid security transport problems.

Facebook and OpenID logins - are they appropriate for web apps dependent on user-generated content?

I'm a person with a non-programming background working on a web application that must store user-generated content and always associate that content with the user who created it. I just had the developer tell me since the application must do this, using Facebook as an alternate login method is pointless because Facebook only let's a third-party web application hang on to Facebook profile information for a certain amount of time, and therefore users who login via Facebook cannot actually contribute content that would remain in the web application's databases.
I'm having trouble swallowing this. I just signed up and logged in to stackoverflow using my Facebook account, and it appears to have generated a site-specific user ID that was automatically associated with my Facebook account - thereby allowing me to save/store content on the site without having to actually create a site-specific profile.
My questions:
Where is the misunderstanding here? To what extent do alternative login options affect the ability of my application, which will consist largely of user-generated content, to store user-generated data and consistently associate it with that user? Appreciate the help!
Alternative login allows users to use an existing account to sign in to multiple websites, without needing to create new passwords. Alternate login using facebook, OpenID, gmail or any other provider doesn't affect the ability of your application to store user generated content.
When a user logs in using a login option for e.g. facebook, user enters the facebook login credential(if he isn't already logged in), facebook generates a authenticated token which is utilised by your application for future use.
In case of alternative logins only the login information (User ID/Password) isn't stored in your application, it totally depends on how you are implementing it in your application. But in any case it doesn't affect your application in saving storing and using the user generated content in your website.

Visual Basic Application Help

I want to make an application witch involves logging into google. It is basically a small application to always have your gmail with you without always having to go to the web browser and log in. Basically what I want to do is, when the person signs into their google account (or the page url changes) I want the webbrowser to refresh and go to a new point in the form and create an animation using a timer. I dont need help with the animation, I just need to know how to link it together with the person signing into google. And also, If it's possible I would like to have the person log in without the actual google web interface, but with 2 textboxes and a button. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and help with my application would be greatly appreciated!
One of the great things about GMail is that it gives you Pop3 access to the mailbox. Your application should be able to use Pop3 to login to the mailbox directly and not require the user to use the google web page (or any web page) at all.
This would be much more secure and fault tolerant than highjacking a browser session or scraping a web page for emails (as your application would break as soon as google updated the gmail app or the user changed their preferences).
You should be able to find numerous Pop3 tutorials, libraries and samples on the net (and most probably here on SO).
If you still insist to use the web browser control, you should investigate crafting your own HTTP-Post query to the page that takes the GMail login. Once you craft the correct message (including the user's username and password as the appropriate POST variables) you should be able to login directly.
Finally, you might want to have a look around on code.google.com as I'm certain this has been done before and you will most likely be able to find some sample code (whichever way you go).
Good Luck!
