I need to remove an object from the PageHandler Header Controls collection in my page template.
I can use the below script to do so at the widget view level, however the one I need to remove has not yet been added at that point, so I need to move it right before it's consumed.
The only accessible place for it that I could find is in my template file - right before #Html.Section("head"). I'm trying to remove the default canonical URL for this template only (some crazy routing stuff going on in this site... don't ask).

When I try to use this in the template file inside the <head> tag pageHandler.Header is null.
1 - Am I accessing this object in the wrong way for this particular template level? If so, what's the proper object reference?
2 - Is it simply not set yet because of some behind-the-scenes page construction order in Sitefinity? If so, where could/should I handle accessing this object?
3 - Something else is going on entirely?

I understand that the object is null and am trying to find where in the Sitefinity viewmodel at this level this data might be found.
The canonical url is set in Page_PreRenderComplete event which fires after your code in the view has executed.
What I would do is create a new widget, e.g. CanonicalUrlRemover.
In its Index method find the Page object and subscribe to its PreRenderComplete event. Then in the event handler remove the canonical url.

The result is whenever I update an opportunity it attaches the corresponding pdf file but it is blank and if I add for example the following to vf page body: "<h1> hello World!</h1>" this works and shows as expected, but this is not happening to what I required above.
You didn't really pass the opportunity id to the VF page. And I doubt this actually works at all? If you manually access the VF page as /apex/PdfAttachmentForOpp?id=006... does it render the content ok? I'm assuming it doesn't.
Fixing the page
You didn't specify constructor so SF generates one for you, fine. I think you need to add something like

Fixing the callout
VF page (especially accessed as callout) will not share memory with the OpportunityPdfController controller you've created in the code. New object of this class will be created to support the page and your file will be ignored. You might try to make-do with some static variable holding current opportunity's id but it feels bit yucky.
In normal execute anonymous try if this returns correct pdf:

My environment: ASP.NET Core 5 with RazorPages, Webpack 5.
In razor pages (.cshtml) that reference svg files, I want to inline them. This is something Webpack can do (via a plugin), but I'm not sure how to integrate these two tech stacks.
I could write templatised cshtml files, and populate them via webpack:

ContactUs.cshtml <------ read by webpack
ContactUs.generated.cshtml <------ generated by webpack
But then how do I force msbuild / aspnet to use the generated file (ContactUs.generated.cshtml) instead of the template file (ContactUs.cshtml) when building?
I suspect the answer is to use IPageRouteModelConvention but I'm unsure how.
(A dirty workaround is to instead use the filenames ContactUs.template.cshtml and ContactUs.cshtml but I prefer something like the above, as "generated" is clearer.)

To simplify the problem:
The compiler looks for Foo.cshtml.cs and Foo.cshtml.
How do I tell it to instead look for Foo.cshtml.cs and Foo.generated.cshtml?
When loading the app, the framework loads for you a set of PageRouteModels which is auto-generated from the razor page folders (by convention). Each such model contains a set of SelectorModel each one of which has an AttributeRouteModel. What you need to do is just modify that AttributeRouteModel.Template by removing the suffixed part from the auto-generated value.
You can create a custom IPageRouteModelConvention to target each PageRouteModel. However that way you cannot ensure the routes from being duplicated (because after modifying the AttributeRouteModel.Template, it may become duplicate with some other existing route). Unless you have to manage a shared set of route templates. Instead you can create a custom IPageRouteModelProvider. It provides all the PageRouteModels in one place so that you can modify & add or remove any. This way it's so convenient that you can support 2 razor pages in which one page is more prioritized over the other (e.g: you have Index.cshtml and Index.generated.cshtml and you want it to pick Index.generated.cshtml. If that generated view is not existed, the default Index.cshtml will be used).

UPDATE
The ContentData object has a property called XmlConfiguration. When the content is based on a smartform, this property will be non-null and have a positive (non-zero) Id: content[0].XmlConfiguration.Id for example.
I often add an Extension Method to my code that will tell me whether a given ContentData is based on a smart form:

That way I can take a content (or list of content) and check it very quickly in code to see if it's based on a smartform or not:

Of course, if your content is coming from the framework api and you used a criteria object that is selecting based on a specific XmlConfigurationId, then in theory you wouldn't have to use that, but it still comes in handy quite often.
I'm not quite sure I understand your organizational structure, but you do have the ability to do your own sub clauses that select directly against the database.
In this case I wouldn't use the TaxonomyItemManager, I would use the ContentManager with a special criteria:

For Information, this is what I came up with. Noted Brian Oliver's comment on List but using patterns from other devs, can refactor later.
To clarify, we are creating classes from the XSDs generated from the smart forms, so have smart form types to play with. Your use may be simpler that ours.

I am trying to create a 'method in a class' that will save the session variables of product pages visited by members to a site i.e

I want to save the number 6 in a session variable. I also do not want to have a global session for the entire site; I just want it for selected pages. So, I guess I have to have Zend_Session::start() on the selected page; but I am not clear how this should be done.
Should I instantiate it in the page view page. i.e products page or do this in the indexAction() method for the products page. I have attempted to instantiate it below but it did not work.

Ayende has an article about how to implement a simple audit trail for NHibernate (here) using event handlers.
Unfortunately, as can be seen in the comments, his implementation causes the following exception to be thrown: collection xxx was not processed by flush()
The problem appears to be the implicit call to ToString on the dirty properties, which can cause trouble if the dirty property is also a mapped entity.
I have tried my hardest to build a working implementation but with no luck.
Does anyone know of a working solution?
I was able to solve the same problem using following workaround: set the processed flag to true on all collections in the current persistence context within the listener

This is not easy at all. I wrote something like this, but it is very specific to our needs and not trivial.
Some additional hints:
You can test if references are loaded using
NHibernateUtil.IsInitialized(entity)

You can cast collections to the IPersistentCollection. I implemented an IInterceptor where I get the NHibernate Type of each property, I don't know where you can get this when using events:

When you get the update event from NHibernate, the instance is initialized. You can safely access properties of primitive types. When you want to use ToString, make sure that your ToString implementation doesn't access any referenced entities nor any collections.
You may use NHibernate meta-data to find out if a type is mapped as an entity or not. This could be useful to navigate in your object model. When you reference another entity, you will get additional update events on this when it changed.
I was able to determine that this error is thrown when application code loads a Lazy Propery where the Entity has a collection.
My first attempt involed watching for new CollectionEntries (which I've never want to process as there shouldn't actually be any changes). Then mark them as IsProcessed = true so they wouldn't cause problems.

When OnPostUpdate is called the values in the CollectionEntries dictionary should all already be set to IsProcessed = true. So I decided to do an extra check to see if the collections not processed matched what I expected.
