I'm building a eCommerce web application for shops using Laravel/Foundation/PostgreSQL, and it will provide them (shop owners) with web based admin panel. My question is, can I make the super admin panel (the tool that I use to control everything) using desktop technology such as VB.net (or anything similar) so the desktop app control the database and maybe some configuration files. Is this considered good way to do things, and do anyone have a similar experience here?
Yes,it's possible to create such application.This kindda application can be called somewhat 'Database Applications'...Let me explain :
1 • You can develop such app in either C#/Vb.NET
2 • Basically, what you need is an app which will let you modify the database(e.g. Product name/Price/Quantity)
3 • For this, you need to first set up a connection between your app and your PostGre database.Take a look at [this)
4 • Then you can use textboxes,checkboxes,Listboxes and other controls you want to edit/delete/update the database . For this, take a look at this for inserting data and this for updating data .They are in c# but can easily be converted to vb.net using converter.telerik.com or simillar conversion tools

I have a hcl application to whose View I want to add entries from my local pc. I have very little knowledge about HCL in genral and have been looking for a soultion for days now without any success. Maybe Im looking at the wrong places but there was little to find. All I know right now is that I will probably end up sending my local data for the entries via postman and I do have to make an agent?/method that is accessable via browser that can receive these information and make entries with them.

There are many ways to add documents to a Notes/Domino database.
You are not very specific, it is not even clear if you want to do it programmatically. As Torsten said in his comment to your original post, there are many ways to do that.
Here are a couple:
Using the Notes rich client.
Through a web browser, accessing a web-enabled Domino database. This assumes the creator of the database has exposed the functionality to create documents on the web.
Use COM (or Java) to create the documents from an external scriptable application or using a programming language/platform supporting COM:

Before you do anything else, you need to learn more about the Domino platform, the structure of a database, and the proper terminology used in Domino. If you don't understand the basics, you will not be able to write any kind of integration with Domino.
i once saw a friend of mine whom was very good at visual basics and asp as well as c#. At the time i had no need to learn VB as i found php enough for my needs. While now since ive been in developing for a longer time i see why people use c#. It has its special place. My question relates to one of these special cases.
However i need your help to figure out how it was done.
What my friend did:
I had a wordpress site at the time. Because of our clients, we didnt want them to login backend and fill in the fields in the CMS. We wanted a deployed executable exe that the clients could install on pc and fill in the required data in simple forms that wont confuse them. Once the form was complete they would post the data to the wordpress cms in the background not visible to them. Using a webbrowser in the exe is what i recall my friend doing.
What i want to do:
I want clients to fill run an exe. They would then need to add login details to validate themselves. Once they logged in i want a very simple form that provides the necessary fields that the cms needs to fill in which will complete the post needed to render their page or profile on the actual website. In other words i want VB to connect to my website from a exe using forms to fill in data rather than going to the cms on a normal chrome or explorer browser.
I know you wondering why i want this. It seems like one hell of a work around. Well im a php developer whom needs a exe. I want to be able to package the exe physically in our portfolio when we hand it to clients. It becomes part of our presentation and welcome pack when joining out system.
This will help us when it comes to clients whom are not able to navigate a complex cms. If we make the cms to simple and old fashioned ( what clients generally are used to ) then we would have developed an outdated application in 2015 haha. Hence we want the best cms with modern features for the future, yet still need the old fashioned forms and simple structured date capturing clients are used to.
What you can help me with:
If i had a login, title and mobile number as the fields in my cms. The title had an ID named title and mobile number has an ID named Mobile. How can i do exactly what my friend did to login, and fill out forms then post the filled out form to my website cms that makes the post live. Please assist,:)

I have a desktop application [Data Analysis and Report Generation] built in VB. I would like to make this application accessible to all the users in our corporation, from their web browsers. What is the best possible way to achieve this?
One way which I have thought is to write a simple web form that would take the input from the user and apply logic on the server and generate results. Again, the limitation would be at the output screen as it is the real time output being generated.

Desktop App is way different from web app. To allow multiple users, a web app is suitable. For this you will have to use several technologies.
The UI has to be build using html, css and javascript (like jQuery).
The back end, can be VB if you are doing working with asp.net or php etc.
For real time output, you'll have to use ajax to allow communication between a browser and sever without page refreshes
An ideal choice for the front end logic, would be to use a frontend framework such as AngularJs by google.
However, all this does have a high learning curve and is difficult to build something using all this on the first day or even week unless you already know most of this.
I'm developing an app on the Windows desktop so Win7 users have the app, but for Win8 users I'm also developing a Metro app.
My problems are,
if a user opens a file (e.g. "Blue.xyz"), I want an app to come up that asks which environment to open it in, but first it has to find all the apps that can open the file and display them.
Then I need to pass the data as a parameter to the app Chosen.
In the .NET framework 4.5.1, I can't find the System.GetEnvironmentVariable command so I can create a common location for both environments to access. These are my options:

After having an inspiration, I found some code that can get pretty close to what I want.

I should just be able to tack this on the end after that:
CommonFolder.Replace("\Documents","")
and it should give me "C:\Users\someuser" and then I can add "\MyAppStorage"

I have written a simple database driven app in C# which uses a 2 table MySQL database. This is all a learning curve for me (except c#, which I am now comfortable with)
The app is small, has a couple of datagridviews, uses a few sql select/inserts statments to populate the datagridviews and also update records.
I want to port this app to Android. All of the internet sources I can find recommend a middle php sript which accepts http requests in order to fetch the data from MySQL and then return the results back to the android device where it is parsed with JSON etc etc.
This method is a little out of my reach since I dont have php experience, all of my attempts to implement the php layer have failed, speciially the android app was not receiving any data back, I'm assuming I messed up somewhere inside the php file.
Is there an easier (more noobproof) way to interact with the MySQL database from within android which doesnt require the need for php + JSON? Any ideas are appreciated, thank you in advance.
If you are comfortable with C#, why not use ASP.Net MVC for the middle man?
MVC is especially easy to deal with JSON, and you actually only need to create those "controllers" (as models should already be there from your existing app, and JSON don't need the View to display).
You can create a Web Service with C# that handles the data retrieval from the database; no need to go with PHP. Try create one with WCF API (check this question in order to create one). In order to create an Android client that consumes JSON on Android check this link.
If your mobile application have to access a database over the network you should indeed build a web service fronted to the database.
By putting a web access layer on top of the database you can expose the required queries in an abstracted, secure and convenient manner.
Though this sort of web service architecture can be implemented with PHP + JSON other technologies can be used as well. If you feel more comfortable with C# you can use it to build the web service instead. By doing so you may even be able to reuse some of the code from your existing application.
