So there is probably a keyboard shortcut which allows to navigate from one view to another by just entering the view number.
I tried the different digits with Ctrl, Ctrl+Shift, Ctrl+Alt etc but could not find the right shortcut.
How can I easily navigate between those views?
The shortcut is Alt + [number]
ps. There's a plugin force-shortcuts if you wanna replace your mouse click actions with shortcuts (https://github.com/treytrahin/force-shortcuts-intellij-plugin). It's super annoying but you learn really fast. And by the way here are such plugins to most editors and IDEs.
ALT+F1 opens a window where you can choose one of the views by pressing the corresponding number.
Info: It actually opens the selected file in the selected view - which is not that bad maybe - but not 100% what you want?
Also there are cool things like pressing C to open a file chosen in Project Explorer directly in Explorer for example.

I'm really impressed with the autocomplete feature of the IntelliJ IDE so far.
What I'd like to do, is cycle through the autocomplete suggestions I get when hitting Ctrl + Space without using the arrow keys (↑, ↓).
The reason for this is that I prefer to keep my fingers on the home row (I'm using IntelliJ's Vim emulator additionally).
For example, how would I select sortThis instead of sorted without using the arrow keys or the mouse?
Peter Gromov's answer brought me to a satisfying solution:
In IntelliJ's settings, for Keymap → Editor Actions → Down I set a custom shortcut: Ctrl + J.
This way I can cycle forward through the suggestions.
Setting a shortcut for Down with Selection or Scroll Line Down in the IdeaVim-specific shortcuts did not affect the selection of autocomplete suggestions though.
The answer here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/9713306/2370679 led me to discover that Ctrl+n & Ctrl+p allow navigation of the auto-complete options without having to modify any settings
For macOS the IDE will give a hint that "^↑ and ^↓ will move caret up and down in the editor". These clearly do not work.
There are a few extra steps that are needed after following #matthias-braun's solution.
Here is the full list of step that I use:
Go to Preferences -> Keymap
Expand Editor Actions (not Plug-ins -> IdeaVim)
Select Down
Click the pencil icon or right-click
Select Add Keyboard Shortcut
Press the shortcut (I use ^N)*
Repeat for 3-6 for Up (I use ^P)
Click Ok**
Go to Preferences -> Other Settings -> Vim Emulation
In the drop-down under the Handler column for the row containing Down, select Vim***
Do the same thing for Up
* If you are warned about the key binding already existing then remove it. You can always reset back to the defaults by clicking the little cog icon up the very top to the right of the drop-down menu.
** The Vim Emulation doesn't seem to be populated correctly until you reopen the Preferences.
*** I'm not sure why the Handler should be Vim. This seems backwards to me but it works.
If you're able to scroll up/down in editor with some IdeaVIM-specific shortcuts, they should also work in the completion list.
In this particular case, I'd just type another "t" so that "sortThis" becomes selected (and the only) variant.
I have done the same thing with mapping the arrows but in a more logical way:
I mapped them that when I press 'Alt' 'J' is left, 'L' is right, 'I' is up, and 'k' is down. that way I can have easy access to the arrows while my fingers are on the home row and I don't need to move them nearly as much...
I'm posting it just so people who search it on google can have that idea.
I can't find a hotkey for the feature "Scroll from Source".
What is the difference between Scroll from Source and Scroll to Source as well?
In the latest IntelliJ IDEA, there is a keymap entry called "Select in Project View" with no default shortcut. Just add a shortcut key to it. No need for a plugin.
tldr;
Alt + F1, then 1
First checkout your shortcut key for the "Select In.." item in the Navigate menu.
Click in the file you're editing, hit the shortcut key for "Select in".. then press 1.
I've changed the hotkey for select in to Alt + 1 so that my key combination is the easy to remember Alt + 1, 1

There's no configurable shortcut in the Keymap settings, and it does not appear in the "Enter action" dialog, so I'm pretty sure it's not (yet) configurable, even if I agree it would be very appreciable.
You can use the navigation bar Shortcut keys as well.
On Mac
Hit ⌘ + ↑ (command and up key)
Hit ← (left arrow)
Hit ⌘ + Enter
This will take you to the folder in project view.
It's worth having a play round with the navigation bar.
IntelliJ really have this covered :)
For ubuntu i did ALT+L (cause ALT + F1 is busy), then just enter.
If you are using JetBrains Rider, then the shortcut is Locate in Solution Explorer:
As a much much much much much better alternative to the scroll from source functionality you can use the Navigation bar.
Note: double clicking on the folder in the navigation bar will scroll to that folder in the Project view, (i.e. the same functionality as scroll from source).
You can show the navigation bar in the view menu, there's also a shortcut for each OS (cmd and up arrow ⌘ + ↑ on OSX, Alt + Home on Linux and Windows)

In Ubuntu 18 you can disable shortcut Alt+F1, the super key(windows key) do same thing.
At moment i disable/changed this shortcuts of ubuntu
Alt+F7 --> windows+F7
Ctrl+Alt+L --> windows+L
Alt+F1 --> windows
Another better way:
The Shortcut is called Select in Projec View
The default shortcut is

Just leave 'Scroll From Source' enabled and open the file browser with Command + 1 on OSX or CTRL + 1(i think) on Windows. The file browser sidebar will be selected and your selection will be highlighted.

In JetBrains Rider, this action used to be named Locate in Solution Explorer, but is now (v2019.2) named Locate/Select in Solution View and by default (at least with the built-in ReSharper keymap) bound to Alt+Shift+L.

Open Project View tool window, switch to the Packages view mode, click on the gear icon, enable Flattern Packages option, disable Show Modules option.
Start typing the package name to activate the speed search.
Another option is to use Navigate | Class, type your.package.*, select some class, press Alt+Home for the navigation bar popup, use arrows to select the package, press F4 (may not work if navigation bar is not floating, but enabled in the View menu instead).
There is one more easy way, though specifically, it wont only search packages.
What you can do is a global search:
Ctrl + Shift + F
Be sure of focusing on the Project tab and then knock the keyboard, just look what is happening, maybe help you:)
Another easier way is to use the "Search Everywhere" option
1. Double click Shift button.
2. Enter the package name.
Though the result will not be on the top of the list, its easy to locate.
Is there a way to create a new class in a desired location without using the mouse in IntelliJ?
I understand there is no keyboard binding in the default keymap.
If you are already in the Project View, press Alt+Insert (New) | Class. Project View can be activated via Alt+1.
To create a new class in the same directory as the current one use Ctrl+Alt+Insert (New...).
You can also do it from the Navigation Bar, press Alt+Home, then choose package with arrow keys, then press Alt+Insert.
Another useful shortcut is View | Select In (Alt+F1), Project (1), then Alt+Insert to create a class near the existing one or use arrow keys to navigate through the packages.
And yet another way is to just type the class name in the existing code where you want to use it, IDEA will highlight it in red as it doesn't exist yet, then press Alt+Enter for the Intention Actions pop-up, choose Create Class.

With Esc and Command + 1 you can navigate between project view and editor area - back and forward, in this way you can select the folder/location you need
With Control +Option + N you can trigger New file menu and select whatever you need, class, interface, file, etc. This works in editor as well in project view and it relates to the current selected location

On Mac you can navigate to the location in Project view where you want to create your class and then use ⌘N followed by Enter.
I do this a lot, and I don't have an insert key on my laptop, so I made my own keybinding for it. You can do this by opening Settings > IDE Settings > Keymap and navigating to Main menu > File > New... (I would recommend typing "new" into the search box - that will narrow it down considerably).
Then you can add a new keyboard shortcut for it by double clicking on that item and selecting Add Keyboard Shortcut.

If you use Mac, you are in luck. One can change the keymap for Intellij as Mac OS X, then you can use option+C.
In my (linux mint) system I can not get working combination alt+insert so I do the next steps:
alt+1 (navigate to "tree") --> "context button - analog right mouse click" (between right alt and ctrl) -- then with arrows (up or down) desired choice (create new class or package or ...)

I also searched this answer. Equivalent of command+N on Mac OS for Windows is ctr + alt + insert which #manyways already answered. If you searching this in settings it is in Settings > IDE Settings > Keymap, Other > New ...
If the difficulty is in finding the option that makes .java or .class files (Like me), then simply,
click on the folder you want to create file on. select new, and type file's name along with extension.
For example, instead of, helloWorld type helloworld.java or any file extension you desire.
What is the quickest way to jump to a particular symbol/selector/class in Xcode? (I'm looking for keyboard shortcuts preferably).
Right now, I know two ways of doing this:
“Open Quickly” > Click on the Symbols dropdown menu at the top of the editor > Select the selector to jump to it.
Click on “Project Symbols” in the “Groups and Files” section on the left sidebar, and type in a name in the Search text field in the top right of the XCode window.
Is there a quicker way of doing this? (If I could even assign a shortcut to jump to the “Project Symbols”, that would suffice for me. Alternatively, if I can find a keyboard shortcut to jump to the symbol dropdown above an editor that would do it to).

In Xcode 3.2, the "Open Quickly" command (Shift-Control-D) lets you type in selectors and class names as well as file names. This would at least get you close to what you wanted.
Your idea about using the "Symbols" drop-down also works. You can use the keystroke Control-2 to bring up the Symbols drop-down menu, and then use the arrow keys, or start typing the name of the method that you want to reach.
Edit: In Xcode 4, the "Symbols" drop-down appears when pressing Control-6. You can change this in the Xcode settings by changing the key binding for "Standart Editor > Show Document Items".
If you're looking at the symbol in a source file and want to jump to its definition, ⌘-click it.
(command + double click) on your symbol/selector/class in any place of your implementation to jump to them
(option + double click) on framework classes/selectors to jump to their reference in help->documentation
One (arguably crude) way to do it seems to be as follows:
This is based on the fact that the Search field at the top right of the Xcode window seems to change behavior depending on what is selected in the Groups & Files sidebar.
Select “Project Symbols” in the “Groups & Files” sidebar
Press ⌥⌘F (That is Command+Option+F) to jump to the Search field
Enter the symbol to jump to, and an outline will quickly show up
(this will remain in effect until you click on something else in the Groups & Files sidebar)
